Liked the tires. They hold up well in the rain. Asphalt too. Even went off-road a few times. They turned out better than expected. One drawback: high recumbents began to be felt stronger than on default tires. I don't know what is involved. Even in the reviews, some write that they are quickly erased. I drove about 1000 km until I noticed visible changes in the pattern.

I have already skated on this model for 2 summer seasons, wear is still 20%. On our roads, in my opinion, this is an excellent indicator. Pretty quiet, the ride is smooth and there are no extraneous vibrations. Perfectly keep the car on the road on dry and wet asphalt. Hydroplaning is only slightly noticeable in deep puddles, otherwise a solid 5.

So far, I have skated one season, and I have not noticed any obvious disadvantages. Only in deep puddles there is light aquaplaning at speed, so I don’t advise driving hard. The rest of the rubber copes well, so you feel comfortable on the road.

drove them 2 warm seasons and about 25 tons km. I'll start with + ; soft and comfortable, economical, the car rulitsya perfectly on dry and wet roads, wear somewhere around 15% on the tread, no bumps or punctures, although it caught pits quite well at speed (until the suspension rebounded). Now - ; at high speed they squeak in corners and feel a little unsure (but I think few people will feel this, since the engine and suspension are far from standard) well, the main mine for the 3rd season on the edge of the tread cracks appeared all over the circle on all 4 tires and it was decision to stop operation and buy new tires.

I took different firms, models, but settled on the Goodyears. Last year I decided to try something new. Proezdil season on effishentgrip performance, really liked it. We went there and back with no problems at all. That on dry that on wet asphalt the car goes like a glove. Doesn't roll over on turns. Drove about 4 thousand .... wear is not visible at all. Excellent tires, bought three weeks ago, drove about 8000 km in the following regions Tver, Yaroslavl, Vladimir, Moscow, Tula, Lipetsk, Tambov, Voronezh, Ryazan, Volgograd, rushed quickly and very quickly not only on federal highways, but also on ordinary roads where there are pits, ditches and bumps (ordinary Russian roads), rubber keeps the car like on rails, during rain on wet asphalt it does its job perfectly, it brakes remarkably, there is practically no noise from it. Now about the cons: very soft sidewalls, but we are not in a hurry to get upset that it will be all in hernias, we just don’t pump the tire much and not any hernias (I did 2.4 (trans.) and 2.2 (rear.)) instead of the prescribed 2.1 on Astra !! !; I don’t advise those who like to go to the country and nature during the rain, it’s impossible to stop and start on the mud)))))) In general, excellent tires, I drive and rejoice and I RECOMMEND. PS: I had a lot of cars, I put different tires, I got such a good one for the first time!

Finally waiting! I have been using the previous EfficientGrip tire for three seasons already - it justified itself one hundred percent. The handle was excellent at speed, flew into a hole on the highway at 120, I thought the wheel had come to an end, the disk shattered to smithereens. At the installation they said that everything was ok with the tire, I bought new disks, put them on and drove off for another one and a half seasons. The main advantage of all Goodyear tires is their excellent performance in rainy weather. For this season I will buy Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance tires, in fact, they should exceed all my expectations, I will write off the results.

The first thing that catches your eye when looking at freshly shod tires is the combination of a light tread pattern and a slightly “toothy” shoulder area. The second, however, is of little interest to us before the exit from the asphalt, and after the exit it is hardly worth expecting much: even the tire manufacturer itself is classified as “road”, even though “SUV”. However, we will still get to off-road tests - but first we will take a closer look at the tire.

The tire has a symmetrical non-directional design. In part, such “conservatism” can be justified by the notorious solid market experience: the EfficientGrip SUV line is far from a newcomer to store shelves, having been present on them for several years. However, in general, the non-directionality of the pattern for this class of tires that do not claim to be sporty is the norm, not the exception, and it is absolutely not worth paying attention to this. But what deserves a little attention is the thin sipes in the central part of the tire: if the deep longitudinal grooves with auxiliary “hooks” are designed to effectively drain water, then these narrow “notches” are obviously responsible for the very “effective grip”, softening the structure surfaces.

1 / 2

2 / 2

Another interesting feature is the “disc protection” declared by the manufacturer: the pot-bellied sidewall is conditionally strong, which reduces the risk of damage to the disc on curbs and other longitudinal obstacles. Such experiments, however, are just right to be carried out on a simulating stand, having a couple more tires in stock - we, setting ourselves other tasks, go out onto the road on a fine spring day.

Oh yes, and one more external detail that will undoubtedly warm the souls of many buyers of these tires: the “Made in Germany” stamp. Despite the general standardization of quality and the introduction of uniform standards for testing finished products by large manufacturers, many consumers believe in "foreign quality" as strong as many years ago. Sometimes, admittedly, it really helps, but we will not add virtual points for the geography of production in absentia: let the German origin remain a pleasant bonus for connoisseurs.

By water like dry land

The first days of close acquaintance gave two main impressions: really good grip and softness. Course stability on a flat road, perhaps, is close to exemplary, and rutting makes you only pay a little more attention to taxiing. Fast turns are passed without any nervousness, although it is still worth remembering that the rubber is not aimed at a very active ride.

Making tires slip on dry pavement is not easy: they are reluctant to slip both during sharp starts and during powerful braking. The aforementioned softness also plays a role in this - despite a rather low 55 percent profile, EfficientGrip SUVs proved to be tolerant of road trifles, not trying to transfer the entire road profile to the driver's body. Here it is worth mentioning the readiness of tires for slightly “sandy” asphalt: as long as the asphalt remained asphalt, and not a sandy path with clearings, our Q3 did not show a tendency to demolish any axle.

But when spring reminded of its capriciousness and irrigated the city with heavy rain, Goodyear's test subjects showed, perhaps, their most important quality: good grip on wet pavement. Firstly, the tires leave grip comparable to “dry” in the entire range of urban speeds, and secondly, they do not give in to provocations to the last, not breaking, but “sliding” into slip when overloaded. Of course, it is impossible to fully test the tendency to aquaplaning in non-polygon conditions, but the long-term urban operation did not reveal any “emergences” - we will consider this a logical result.

1 / 2

2 / 2

But we had small comments during the assessment of tire noise. All intracity speed limits are accompanied by a quite acceptable noise background, but as we approached the first “hundred”, the sound of the tires seemed a little more intrusive than we would like. Perhaps this is partly due to the “toothy” shoulder part of the tire. A further increase in speed, however, does not cause a proportional increase in noise, leaving it within the comfort zone. But slaps from the passage of joints and road defects are effectively muffled: here the softness of the rubber is in its favor. We will write down the vibration background as a plus: no complaints.

No extreme

The prefix "SUV" and the pronounced "ridges" on the edges of the tire simply could not leave us indifferent to the idea of driving on easy off-road. After all, something must help to realize the possibilities of quattro all-wheel drive in our Audi Q3, and from whom, if not from tires, should we expect this? The tires themselves, however, did not share our enthusiasm.

On a dry gravel-ground surface, the EfficientG rip SUV tried their best, and in principle justified the hopes placed on them. Any attempts to climb a hill or pass small obstacles "from the spot", however, crashed against the "asphalt reality": Goodyear test subjects practically do not know how to row. Such promising “pseudo-lugs” in the shoulder area are, of course, ineffective in practice: the main contact area falls on a smooth center with longitudinal sipes, and tiny transverse notches do not work here.

1 / 2

2 / 2

But the softness mentioned above still has its advantages here: it is felt that the tires do not exacerbate, but struggle with the vibration load from a bad road. In addition, while the car passes hills and obstacles in motion, the wheels do not break into axle boxes with or without reason, allowing you to drive "neatly, but strongly."

Well, when the roads without an asphalt shell are wetted with rain, the Goodyear EfficientGrip SUV finally decides to show that it's time to return to the city. You can and should move on the ground evenly and continuously - although this proposal is perhaps too obvious in the context of testing pure road tires. Spins become frequent, acceleration is reluctant, and braking is unaccustomed after asphalt exploits. In general, "mud tests" prove an already clear fact: to move off a hard road in rainy weather is to flip the "excellent wet grip" switch. EfficientG rip SUV - for asphalt and only for it.

Price quality

Another characteristic that cannot be assessed without a life test is tire wear resistance. It can be indirectly judged by customer reviews, and some of them mention not the highest strength as the reverse side of softness. The bulk of the owners, however, do not complain about this indicator - either having a more suitable driving style, or keeping in mind the high traction characteristics. The manufacturer himself includes service life among the advantages of the model - however, it should be borne in mind that there are Eagle F 1 in the Continental line for active driving, and the EfficientGrip SUV in this use case is unlikely to be as efficient as possible. However, we continue to operate and keep our finger on the pulse: if the mileage is sufficient to consider the test as a resource, we will talk about what has changed over time, and what is the real wear resistance.

The last question, traditionally left in the end, is the price. A cursory analysis shows that Goodyear EfficientGrip SUVs remain slightly more expensive than Korean and some other counterparts, and the question “is it worth paying a little extra for good grip on wet roads”, of course, remains with the buyer. However, today's tires are by no means high-end crossover tires: many other tires in the same popular sizes are more expensive. Perhaps this is also one of the "secrets of longevity" of the EfficientGrip SUV - although several weeks of operation clearly say more than that.

Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance summer high-performance tire for prestige and mid-price cars. Longitudinal ribs combined with ActiveBraking technology improve vehicle control on both wet and dry roads – creating more grip for perfect handling and short braking distances. FuelSaving technology provides the tire with superior fuel economy performance.

Efficient Grip
The rubber compound of the EfficientGrip Performance model uses a new base layer CoolCushion Layer2, which reduces the heating of the shoulder and side parts of the tire, as well as the base layer itself, which provides less deformation and, as a result, low rolling resistance and reduced fuel consumption.

Wear Control and Active Braking
The use of new WearControl and ActiveBraking technologies, together with three-dimensional blocks in the tread pattern, ensures the most efficient grip of the tire with the road surface, especially in rainy conditions. According to TUV SUD testing, the Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance tire has 8% shorter wet braking distances and 3% shorter dry braking distances compared to 4 major competitors.

Central slats
In the central part of the EfficientGrip Performance tread, peripheral, interconnected ribs are located. They provide increased resistance to lateral loads, allowing you to better control the car in corners and when maneuvering.

Optimized side blocks
Ultra thin lamellas are used in the optimized structure of the shoulder part of the tread. Their goal is to reduce high-frequency noise and, as a result, reduce the overall noise background when the tire is rolling. And the innovative design of three-dimensional tread blocks provides the most effective tire grip on the road.

Judging the benefits of modern tires based on road trips is like judging the qualities of tea by looking at tightly sealed bags. The label is beautiful - what's inside? To discover the “true taste” of the new Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance tires, I went to a test site near Mireval, in the south of France.

We know firsthand that Goodyear produces excellent Ultra Hight Performance tires: in recent Autoreview tests (AR No. 6 and No. 7, 2013), the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 and Asymmetric SUV tires were on the podium. But the models of the "middle" class - Excellence, Eagle NCT5, Duragrip - did not shine in our tests. It is possible that the new EfficientGrip Performance tires, which will be available this summer in 68 sizes - with a bore diameter of 14 to 18 inches, can change the situation. And almost all of them are labeled "AB".

Let me remind you that in November last year, a rule began to operate in the European Union obliging manufacturers to declare the class of tires in three parameters - braking properties on wet pavement, rolling resistance and noise. The first two parameters are marked with letters: the highest class is indicated by the letter "A", then in descending order - "B", "C", "D", "E" and "F". And the noise marking is made in the form of concentric bands - from one (the quietest tires) to three (the loudest). That is, the first letter “A” on the EfficientGrip Performance tire sticker means that, at least on wet pavement, they will provide excellent braking. Now let's check - fortunately, the famous Mireval training ground next to the town of the same name in the south of France has everything you need for this. I already know: we conducted our comparative tests here.

There is, for example, a car equipped with a special device with a pneumatic drive, which itself at the right time and with a verified effort will press the brake pedal. And on a wet track, all that remains for me is to accelerate the Volkswagen Golf to 80 km / h. It is clear that the braking distance is measured automatically. And after ten races, the average result: 31.05 meters. Is it good or not so good? Another exactly the same Golf is called to help with the answer, but with the “Competitor” sign: everything is the same, but the result is 36.66 meters. And what is this "competitor"? Hmmm... Have you heard anything about Chinese Infinity tires? I was not too lazy, I rewrote the name of the model - INF-040, and the wet braking class is marked with the letter "F" ... And such tires are one and a half times cheaper! To put it mildly and in French, not comme il faut for a company like Goodyear. Especially when five hundred kilometers away is the headquarters of Michelin ...

When braking, the difference with good tires will be minimal, local testers admit. - But in terms of handling on wet pavement, our tires are better.

And now the "competitor" is already worthy - Michelin Energy Saver +! And after a few quick laps on a winding, watery track, the Golf is clearly better on the Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance tires, primarily due to the fact that corner slips start at a higher speed. Although the “classiness” of Michelin tires is indicated by the same letters “AB”.

On the right scoreboard are displayed from top to bottom: the braking distance on Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance tires from 80 km / h, the braking distance on Chinese Infinity tires at the same speed and the residual speed that a car has on Chinese tires at the moment when the same Volkswagen Golf is on tires Goodyear has already stopped - almost 24 km / h!

By the way, European tire manufacturers are not very happy with this marking system - they say, it does not reflect all the important properties of tires, including those that directly affect safety: handling on wet pavement, hydroplaning resistance, grip on dry pavement ...

Here you, journalists, compare tires in your tests on an average of 15 parameters, and this can already be safely called a comprehensive assessment, - says Hugh D-epre, Goodyear's brand director for markets in Europe, Asia and Africa. - We are working on fifty parameters in the process of finishing new tires! And we plan to soon launch the "360° Quality Test" program, designed to inform the consumer about the results of our tests.

Another exercise - on a ring with a diameter of two hundred meters, one of the sectors of which is flooded with a centimeter layer of water. The car goes in a circle exactly at a speed of 80 km / h (electronics monitors this) - and, passing the bath, it “floats up” and moves outward under the action of centrifugal force. This phenomenon is called hydroplaning and depends mainly on the tread pattern. Golf, "shod" in Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance, "floated" by 3.7 meters, and on Michelin tires of the same dimension - by 4.7 meters. The cars are the same, the pressure in the tires too - I checked it myself. So the comparison is pure. But the “classiness” of tires, let me remind you, is the same - AB!

The secret of such success of Goodyear tires is not only the tread pattern - for the uninitiated, frankly, unpretentious, with four longitudinal grooves - but also the unique composition of the rubber compound. More precisely, a combination of different compositions: the upper, saturated with silica, provides excellent grip and handling on wet pavement, and the inner, with reduced hysteresis losses, reduces rolling resistance. Moreover, the boundary between these layers is deliberately blurred in terms of the depth and area of the tread, so that worn tires do not change their properties dramatically when changing the type of rubber. Why were Michelin Energy Saver + tires chosen for comparison? After all, this spring, Michelin introduced its new product to the market - Primacy 3 tires, with which it would be more correct to compare Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance tires. M contact patch. The inner layer begins to "bare" with a residual tread depth of 4-5 mm - with such wear, the driver should already think about buying new tires. Yes, you can still ride them on dry asphalt, but in the rain the risk of getting into an unpleasant situation increases markedly.

Well, first impressions from the Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance tires at the test site are positive. Only one thing is not clear - one can assume that the advantages of Goodyear tires in this case would not be so obvious. However, what to guess - you need to check. And we will do it as soon as possible. In the meantime, I can only please fans of the Goodyear brand - new tires are already on sale at quite reasonable prices. So, tires of the popular dimension 205/55 R16 can be purchased for 3,500 rubles apiece.

Rubber with the smallest hysteresis losses is highlighted in yellow - it is present both in the composition of the sidewalls and in the inner part of the tread layer. As the more “tenacious” surface layer, saturated with silica, wears out, the inner layer is exposed gradually, which avoids a sharp change in the grip properties of tires - primarily on wet asphalt
