ABOUT THE MUSEUM
One of the branches of State Unitary Enterprise "Mosgortrans" is the Museum "Moscow Transport" - a unique collection of retro models of all types of urban transport.
The museum presents different brands cars and trucks, taxis, trams, buses and trolleybuses that carried passengers along the streets of the capital, as well as vehicles of various city services: police, firemen, " ambulance". Among them: the legendary "one and a half" and "three-ton", personal cars Soviet leaders, as well as collections of AZLK and GAZ cars.

HISTORY OF CREATION AND DEVELOPMENT OF THE MUSEUM
Until the mid-80s, at the enterprises of the Moscow urban passenger transport system (bus, trolleybus depots, tram depots), their history was displayed only in a few museums of labor and military glory, created, as a rule, in the "red corners" of parks for certain anniversaries . They were stands with portraits of leaders, performance indicators, pennants, certificates of honor, banners, and also contained a collection of albums with a photo chronicle of the enterprise. However, in those years, questions about the preservation of full-scale copies of equipment that worked on the routes, as part of common history of the city and the evolution of technology development, and the creation of a publicly accessible transport museum, the leadership of the Moscow transport industry, always busy with its vital production affairs, did not even consider.
The first step towards the creation of the Museum of Urban Passenger Transport in Moscow was made by Glavmosgortrans at the suggestion of the Moscow city branch of the All-Union Society for the Protection of Historical and Cultural Monuments (MGO VOOPIiK). In the spring of 1984, activists of the technical section of the MGO "VOOPIiK" applied to "Glavmosgortrans" with a proposal to preserve samples of old passenger vehicles being decommissioned, which was supported. An instruction was issued in which the heads of operating enterprises were instructed to identify and take into account the existing equipment of the old generation (trams, trolleybuses, buses, utility vehicles), ensure its safety and prevent destruction. But what to do with this retro technique in the future, where to store it, demonstrate who and at whose expense will restore it, was not specifically determined.
The second milestone in the creation of a retro collection of the capital's urban passenger transport can be considered the exit to excursion route in the autumn of 1987, the restored KM tram car. The Moscow authorities decided to arrange large-scale celebrations on the occasion of the 840th anniversary of the city. The metropolitan organizations sought to make their bright contribution to the festive program of the "Day of the City of Moscow-1987". Tram depot them. The third practical action was the organization under the auspices of "Mosgortrans" at the beginning of 1989 "Initiative group for the creation of the Museum of urban transport in Moscow." The group united the efforts of the activists of the MGO "VOOPIiK" and enthusiasts in the "Mosgortrans" system, which made it possible to coordinate joint actions at a new qualitative level and promptly resolve issues related to the preservation and restoration of equipment. It included the deputy chairman of the scientific and technical section of the IGO "VOOPIiK" A.Timaev, transport historians A.E. Shanin, M.V. Egorov. From Mosgortrans, the group was headed by the head of the department of social and housing development Evgeny Venediktovich Alekseev, engineer V.R. Karganov was appointed his assistant. During 1989, through the efforts of the group, the SVARZ MTBES, ZiU-5D, SVARZ TG-3, TG-4 trolleybuses and the ZiL-158 bus were assembled and prepared for restoration.
The first fruits of the work of the "Initiative Group" in the form of a fully restored and ready for exhibition and museum work trolleybus ZiU-5D No. 2933 were received in 1990. In the same year, an electrician of the 1st trolleybus depot A.V. Zverev, a technically competent specialist and an enthusiast for the restoration of urban transport equipment, joined the group. At his request, with the support of Mosgortrans, it was decided to temporarily place all wheeled retro vehicles (buses, trolleybuses and cars) of the future Museum on the territory of the 1st trolleybus depot.
In subsequent years, the search for new exhibits, equipment and refurbishment available technology. The staff of the “Initiative group for the creation of the Museum” was joined by new intelligent specialists who are passionate about the history of urban transport.
The first wide public display of the restored museum equipment took place as part of the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Moscow trolleybus - on November 15, 1993, the magnificently restored retro trolleybuses SVARZ MTBES, ZiU-5D, SVARZ TG-3M proceeded in the parade column through the center of Moscow. The following year, museum buses were shown to Muscovites for the first time - on August 8, 1994, in honor of the 80th anniversary of the opening of a regular bus traffic, the restored ZiS-154, ZiS-155, LAZ-695, LiAZ-158V, LiAZ-677B passed through the city in full parade.
A large joint run of museum retro buses and retro trolleybuses through the streets of Moscow for the first time took place on the Day of the Motorist on October 26, 1996, in honor of the 100th anniversary of the creation of the Russian car.
The old trams were not forgotten either: during these years, the Tram Repair Plant gradually revived the F, BF, KP, N, MTV-82, Tatra T-2 cars. For the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Moscow tram, the “Tram Parade” was being prepared, for which a unique exhibit was recreated: a horse carriage (with an imperial) on the original chassis built in 1899.
Parades and exhibitions of Mosgortrans' retro equipment enjoyed tremendous success among the townspeople and guests of the capital. It became obvious to the city authorities how much interest there is in the history of urban transport. There is a need to give the retro collection of "Mosgortrans" a permanent exhibition, to make it available to the general public in the form of a real Museum on an ongoing basis.
The Museum of Land Urban Passenger Transport was opened on September 10, 1999 on the territory tram depot them. Bauman. This event was timed to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the Moscow tram. By order of the Mayor of Moscow, the museum territory became the site for the construction of the Rostokino electric depot of the Moscow Monorail transport system. In the autumn of 2001, the exposition was closed, and the equipment was taken out for temporary storage to the unequipped site of the Tram Repair Plant, located at 9, Volochaevskaya Street.
In the period from December 2001 to April 2016, the museum collection of Mosgortrans was actually closed to the public. At that time, the city authorities were working on various options location of the Museum (use of the underpass premises of the Third transport ring, projects for the placement of the Museum in Strogino, in the pavilions of VDNKh, etc.), but different reasons none of the projects were completed.
But the storage, search and restoration of exhibits continued. Despite the difficulties of showing the collected collection to the general population due to the lack of museum territories and premises, the demonstration of equipment for the public has gained new format. Starting from June 2003, Mosgortrans annually holds several offsite thematic expositions - exhibitions of retro buses, trolleybuses, trams: in June (on the Day of Russia), in September (on the Day of the City) and on the anniversaries of modes of transport. At the invitation of city organizations, the rolling stock of the Museum is also used at various other public events: holidays, exhibitions, participates in parades and filming.
The collection of retro cars and motorcycles in Moscow, reflecting the history of the world automotive industry, has been presented since 2003. on the basis of the museum "Retro-cars", located on the territory of the former automobile and road operating plant No. 4 at the address st. Rogozhsky Val, 9/2 building 1. The exposition of the museum exhibited rare items belonging to private owners, collections from the FSO garage, a collection of cars from the AZLK museum (Moskvich Plant).
In 2015 The government of Moscow decided to unite the disparate city museums of automotive technology into a single museum complex based on the State Unitary Enterprise Mosgortrans.
At the beginning of 2016, the Mosgortrans collection of urban transport opened in the halls of the former Museum of Retro Cars on Rogozhsky Val. The museum was named the Moscow Transport Museum, while cars from private collections continued to coexist with exhibits - the property of Moscow.
The interest of the Russian public in the history of urban transport, old trams, trolleybuses and buses has not faded and has recently increased significantly, largely due to the displays of the Mosgortransovskaya museum collection.
Following the example of Moscow, museums of old buses, trolleybuses and trams arose in St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Yekaterinburg, Kirov, Minsk, Kyiv, Kharkov. The Moscow City Transport Museum "Moscow Transport" is not only the oldest and has the largest collection of passenger vehicles compared to other cities of the post-Soviet space, but in terms of the quality and quantity of the exhibits presented, it may well compete with the "eminent" related transport museums in London, Munich, Vienna, Hanover , Paris, New York, Stockholm, Helsinki, Prague, Budapest, Istanbul and Beijing.
Museum "Moscow Transport" was opened on the basis of the museum retro car on Rogozhsky Val in Moscow in April 2016.

Museum exposition

In 2003, Dmitry Oktyabrsky founded a museum of vintage cars on Rogozhsky Val Street. By 2005, the museum's collection consisted of about 17 exhibits. In April 2016, the building became the property of Mosgortrans, then they decided to rename the museum into "Moscow Transport", as well as to supplement the existing collection.
The museum does not show only tram cars. As a rule, there is no permanent collection in the museum. All because it is regularly updated and replenished.
An interesting fact is that the building in which the museum is now located is the building of a factory that once produced cars. When work at the plant stopped, the building became empty. It was here that they began to exhibit a collection of vehicles.
The exposition of the Moscow Transport Museum constantly participates in various exhibitions and festivals. In 2016, on the Day of the City of Moscow, the vehicles of this museum were exhibited at the parade of urban vehicles, and in 2017, the museum’s buses and trolleybuses were demonstrated at the Urban Transport International Innovation Salon, which takes place at VDNKh.
