ABOUT THE MUSEUM

One of the branches of State Unitary Enterprise "Mosgortrans" is the Museum "Moscow Transport" - a unique collection of retro models of all types of urban transport.

The museum presents different brands cars and trucks, taxis, trams, buses and trolleybuses that carried passengers along the streets of the capital, as well as vehicles of various city services: police, firemen, " ambulance". The first step towards the creation of the Museum of Urban Passenger Transport in Moscow was made by Glavmosgortrans at the suggestion of the Moscow city branch of the All-Union Society for the Protection of Historical and Cultural Monuments (MGO VOOPIiK). In the spring of 1984, activists of the technical section of the MGO "VOOPIiK" applied to "Glavmosgortrans" with a proposal to preserve samples of old passenger vehicles being decommissioned, which was supported. An instruction was issued in which the heads of operating enterprises were instructed to identify and take into account the existing equipment of the old generation (trams, trolleybuses, buses, utility vehicles), ensure its safety and prevent destruction. But what to do with this retro technique in the future, where to store it, demonstrate who and at whose expense will restore it, was not specifically determined.

The second milestone in the creation of a retro collection of the capital's urban passenger transport can be considered the exit to excursion route in the autumn of 1987, the restored KM tram car. The Moscow authorities decided to arrange large-scale celebrations on the occasion of the 840th anniversary of the city. The metropolitan organizations sought to make their bright contribution to the festive program of the "Day of the City of Moscow-1987". Tram depot them. The group united the efforts of the activists of the MGO "VOOPIiK" and enthusiasts in the "Mosgortrans" system, which made it possible to coordinate joint actions at a new qualitative level and promptly resolve issues related to the preservation and restoration of equipment. It included the deputy chairman of the scientific and technical section of the IGO "VOOPIiK" A.Timaev, transport historians A.E. Shanin, M.V. Egorov. From Mosgortrans, the group was headed by the head of the department of social and housing development Evgeny Venediktovich Alekseev, engineer V.R. Karganov was appointed his assistant. During 1989, through the efforts of the group, the SVARZ MTBES, ZiU-5D, SVARZ TG-3, TG-4 trolleybuses and the ZiL-158 bus were assembled and prepared for restoration.

The first fruits of the work of the "Initiative Group" in the form of a fully restored and ready for exhibition and museum work trolleybus ZiU-5D No. 2933 were received in 1990. In the same year, an electrician of the 1st trolleybus depot A.V. Zverev, a technically competent specialist and an enthusiast for the restoration of urban transport equipment, joined the group. At his request, with the support of Mosgortrans, it was decided to temporarily place all wheeled retro vehicles (buses, trolleybuses and cars) of the future Museum on the territory of the 1st trolleybus depot.

In subsequent years, the search for new exhibits, equipment and refurbishment available technology. The staff of the “Initiative group for the creation of the Museum” was joined by new intelligent specialists who are passionate about the history of urban transport.

The first wide public display of the restored museum equipment took place as part of the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Moscow trolleybus - on November 15, 1993, the magnificently restored retro trolleybuses SVARZ MTBES, ZiU-5D, SVARZ TG-3M proceeded in the parade column through the center of Moscow. For the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Moscow tram, the “Tram Parade” was being prepared, for which a unique exhibit was recreated: a horse carriage (with an imperial) on the original chassis built in 1899.

Parades and exhibitions of Mosgortrans' retro equipment enjoyed tremendous success among the townspeople and guests of the capital. It became obvious to the city authorities how much interest there is in the history of urban transport. There is a need to give the retro collection of "Mosgortrans" a permanent exhibition, to make it available to the general public in the form of a real Museum on an ongoing basis.

At the invitation of city organizations, the rolling stock of the Museum is also used at various other public events: holidays, exhibitions, participates in parades and filming.

The collection of retro cars and motorcycles in Moscow, reflecting the history of the world automotive industry, has been presented since 2003. on the basis of the museum "Retro-cars", located on the territory of the former automobile and road operating plant No. 4 at the address st.
