Do-it-yourself chainsaw snowmobile scheme. Frame and attachments

18.04.2019

With the onset of winter, especially snowy, there are problems associated with movement. Few people know that a snowmobile can be constructed from improvised means as an alternative means of transportation in winter conditions.

At the same time, there is no need for serious expenses. Moreover, in the presence of a large amount of snow, you won’t go far by car, but a snowmobile will allow you to move in similar conditions without too much trouble.

The assembly of any structure begins with the development of drawings. All the necessary units can be placed on them, after which you can proceed to the practical implementation of the idea. Therefore, at this stage, you should decide which brand of chainsaw is suitable for the implementation of your plan.

Choosing a chainsaw

In retail outlets, you can find several models of chainsaws. The most popular of them are the Druzhba chainsaw, the Ural chainsaw and the Shtil chainsaw. Before choosing, you should think carefully by comparing them specifications.

Chainsaw "Friendship"

This is the simplest chainsaw that can be used as a snowmobile engine. The result is an elementary design without anything superfluous.

The only drawback is the large weight with relatively low power. In addition, there are no parts for attaching safety covers to the structure. In addition, this design is outdated in all respects.

Specifications:

  • Power - 1 kW;
  • Weight - 12 kg;
  • Engine (two-stroke);
  • Tire length - 45 cm;
  • Fuel (gasoline).

Chainsaw "Ural"

This is a specialized model that has greater reliability, power and less weight in relation to power. This is an environmentally friendly unit that can work in extreme conditions.

If you decide to use the Ural chainsaw, then this is a good choice. Its technical characteristics are fully consistent with those declared.

Specifications.

  • Power - 3.68 kW;
  • Weight - 11.7 kg;
  • Engine (petrol two-stroke);
  • Overall dimensions - 46x88x46 cm;

Chainsaw "Calm"

It is also suitable for creating a snowmobile with your own hands. This is an environmentally friendly device, absolutely harmless to humans. The main advantage of the chainsaw is its low weight and quietness in operation, compared with the Ural chainsaw, and even more so when compared with the Druzhba chainsaw.

Do-it-yourself scheme for making a snowmobile from a Ural chainsaw

Schemes for assembling a snowmobile from a Ural chainsaw: 1 - steering wheel; 2- fuel tank(from the Druzhba chainsaw; 3 - power unit (from the Ural chainsaw); 4 - steering ski rack bushing (pipe with a diameter of 30-2 pieces); 5 - steering ski (2 pieces); 6 - drive gear wheel caterpillars (kapron, sheet s15, 2 pcs.); 7 - caterpillar (from the Buran snowmobile, shortened); 8 - frame; 9 - track roller (from potato sorting, 18 pcs.); 10 - brace of the back-limiter ( pipe ½); 11 - stretching device caterpillars (2 pcs.); 12 - tension gear of the caterpillar (kapron, sheet s15, 2 pcs.); 13 - bearing No. 80204 in the housing (4 pcs.); 14 - box-trunk bottom-plywood s4, board board s20); 15 - seat (cover-plywood s4, foam rubber, leatherette); 16 - 1st stage of chain transmission; 17 - 2nd stage of chain transmission; 18 - seat back-limiter (pipe ½ inch); 19 - driven sprocket of the 1st chain drive (large sprocket of the creeper, intermediate shaft); z=38; 20 - drive sprocket of the 2nd stage of the chain drive (small sprocket of the creeper), z10; 21 - driven sprocket of the 2nd degree of the chain drive (drive sprocket of the caterpillar drive shaft), z18; 22 - drive sprocket of the 1st stage of the chain drive (sprocket of the gearbox output shaft), z12; 23 - lever knuckle; 24 – Tie Rod(2 pcs.); 25 - steering shaft with bipod; 26 - beam front axle(pipe diameter 30); 27- drive shaft caterpillars; 28 - track tension axle.

Without creating a diagram and drawing, it is unlikely that it will be possible to connect together the main units of the structure, such as:

  • Engine;
  • transmission;
  • Skis and caterpillars.

To simplify the design process, you should take the caterpillar from the Buran all-terrain vehicle. If a children's version is being designed, then skis will be enough.

Racks

steering ski: 1 - skid (kapron, sheet s20, from a children's snow scooter); 2 - spring (normally stretched, from rear shock absorber moped); 3 - spring bearing; 4 - undercut (duralumin corner 20x20); 5 - spring cover (corner 35x35); 6 - fastening the spring to the cover (M8 bolt with washer); 7 - support lever (pipe 30x30); 8 - spring for fastening the rack - fork to the ski lever (steel, sheet s2); 9 - spring for attaching the support arm to the ski (steel, sheet s2); 10 - axles (M8 bolt, 2 pcs.); 11 – steering knuckle strut (bicycle steering strut with a crown and part of the fork); 12 – steering arm (steel, sheet s4); 13 - fastening of the steering arm (type M16); 14 - fastening the thrust bearing of the spring and the spring of the lever to the ski (M5 bolt with a countersunk head, 7 pcs.); 15 – lever bushing ( steel pipe 30 mm in diameter); 16 - plain bearing (nylon bushing, 2 pcs.); 17 - stand bushing (steel pipe with a diameter of 30 mm). In the top view, the parts 11, 12, 13 of the steering knuckle are conventionally not shown.

Snowmobile racks can be made from 3x3 cm corners. They are connected to each other by steel jumpers. As a result, there is a relatively small portal. To create a platform, you need to take a sheet, 2 mm thick and connect it to the portal and the middle of the right side of the vehicle elements. This platform will serve as a place for attaching the chainsaw gearbox and chain drive shaft.

On the part of the rear portal and the middle of the snowmobile, no great place, for the seat structure.

The front of the frame and the front axle traverse are connected by a beam. An ordinary water pipe with a diameter of 1.5 cm acts as a beam. At the end of this pipe, steering ski bushings are attached by welding, and a rack is installed in the center. The stand will serve as a support for the motor subframe.

Particular attention should be paid to the attachment points of the racks. For greater reliability, the attachment points are reinforced with steel scarves, 2 mm thick. This approach will enhance vehicle and make it more reliable and durable.

Caterpillar

Snowmobile frame with track block: 1 – rear end spar (steel sheet s2, with flanges, 2 pcs.); 2 - tension device (4 pcs.); 3 - rear portal (corner 30x30); 4 - the middle part of the spar (corner 50x63, 2 pcs.); 5 - bracket-fork for mounting the axis of the road wheels (steel sheet s2, 10 pcs.); 6 - middle portal (corner 30x30); 7 - platform for mounting the gearbox power unit and an intermediate creeper shaft (steel sheet s2); 8 - scarves (steel sheet s2, 4 pcs.); 9 - front portal (corner 30x30); 10 - front component spar (steel sheet s2 with flanges); 11 - axis of tension gears; 12 - track tension gear (2 pcs.); 13 - the axis of the track rollers (steel, circle 10, 5 pcs.); 14 - axle mounting (M10 nut and spring washer, 20 pcs.); 15 - remote sleeve (duralumin pipe); 16 - skating rink (18 pcs.); 17 - bearing assembly (4 pcs.); 18 - caterpillar drive gear (2 pcs.); 19 - caterpillar drive shaft; 20 - drive sprocket of the drive shaft (driven sprocket of the 2nd degree of chain transmission), z=18; 21 - steering knuckle bushing of the steering ski (pipe with a diameter of 30 mm, 2 pcs.); 22 - front axle beam (pipe with a diameter of 30 mm); 23 - scarves, 4 pcs.; 24 - under-engine stand (pipe with a diameter of 30 mm); 25 - roller bandage (rubber ring, 18 pcs.).

To assemble a mini-version of a snowmobile, you can take the tracks from the old Buran and modify it, shortening it by almost a meter. Gears can be made from a sheet of nylon, 1.5 cm thick.

Drive shaft

Track drive shaft (the idler shaft is the same, only item 4, replaced by item 1): 1 - left (along the way) tip (steel, cylinder 22); 2 - shaft (steel pipe 0.28x20; 3 - flange for fastening the gear to the shaft (steel sheet s4, 2 pcs.); 4 - right (along the way) shaft tip (steel, cylinder 29); 5 - caterpillar drive gear (2 pcs.); 6 - frame spar, 2 pcs.); 7 - bearing housing cover (steel, 2 pcs.); 8 - bearing 80204 (2 pcs.); 9 - bearing housing (steel, 2 pcs.); 10 - drive shaft sprocket; 11 - fastening the sprocket to the shaft (M12 nut with wide and spring washers); 12 - key (steel 20); 13 - seal (felt, 2 pcs.); 14 - fastening of the bearing housing to the side member (bolt M6, with grover 4 sets); 15 - fastening of the bearing housing to the side member (M6 bolt with spring washer, 4 sets).

The drive shaft is made of a steel pipe with a diameter of 1.4 cm. Special flanges are attached to the shaft, to which gears are attached. At the end drive shaft, by welding, trunnion tips are mounted. The trunnions must be provided with a place for installing bearings.

Engine

This unit is considered the most responsible snowmobile mechanism. Compared to other structural elements, such as a tire or chain, the engine must work properly and without it the snowmobile will not even budge. Therefore, the long-term performance of the device will depend on the reliable and trouble-free operation of the engine. If you want to install a chainsaw engine, imported production, then you can buy a used "Calm".

Another important design element, on which depends uptime snowmobile is considered a gearbox.

Asterisks

Immediately striking is the fact that the right handpiece has a keyway for installing and securing the chain sprocket. This is the track shaft sprocket, which is securely fastened with a nut. To make fastening possible, a corresponding thread is cut on the tip.

The tip of the tension shaft has the same dimensions, and the fastening of the structural elements is carried out similarly to the fastening of the caterpillar shaft sprocket.

The sprocket with the largest gear ratio (number of teeth) should be in the first gear stage. On the engine of the Ural chainsaw, 38 teeth can be counted.

Steering

On homemade device you can install a steering wheel of any design and even from a bicycle. IN this case, it is very important to bring manual engine speed control to the steering wheel. In order not to bother much, it is better to use the steering wheel from a moped, scooter, etc., where an engine power control mechanism is already provided. This will make the design more reliable and easy to manage.

Brake system

Usually, such a vehicle does not have a braking system, and it is not necessary, since the snowmobile does not develop high speeds, especially homemade. Although, if you take this problem seriously, you can build a primitive braking device.

You should immediately pay attention that a home-made design, no matter what it is, is unlikely to be registered (legalized) with the relevant authorities. And therefore:

  1. According to the law, homemade snowmobile does not belong to the vehicle category. Therefore, its further application, as well as responsibility for the consequences, lies solely with the person who made it. It is better if it is operated somewhere in the outback and does not catch the eye of the relevant services.
  2. A snowmobile and a floating all-terrain vehicle are completely different vehicles, although they have a certain similarity.
  3. Since the engine has low power, it is not advisable to transport goods with this vehicle. Better to ride it alone.
  4. For movement at night, lighting (headlights) can be installed on the snowmobile. This will increase the functionality of the device and comfort when moving.

Conclusion

Due to the fact that most people do not have the skills self-manufacturing any designs, they find it quite difficult to assemble a snowmobile with their own hands. And if you manage to build something similar to a snowmobile, then it is unlikely to go, and if it does, it will stop very soon. And it will not look like a snowmobile at all, but like a pile of spare parts assembled together. Fortunately, this is not the case, and with the proper approach and level of imagination, you can assemble a similar design from improvised means, which are at least a dime a dozen in any garage. And if there is at least some experience with these spare and improvised materials, then the task is simplified altogether. The principle of desire is already beginning to operate here, and if it is not there, then it is unlikely that it will be possible to assemble anything at all, not to mention a snowmobile.

The fact that the problem is relevant in our time is not just a statement, but a conviction based on the problems of today. Unfortunately, the state does not meet the needs of a wide range of consumers, but has set a course for the production of only expensive equipment intended for sale to the consumer with money.

DIY snowmobile - Video

A homemade chainsaw snowmobile is very popular in Russia. Some of the assembled models amaze with the simplicity of the design solution. In harsh winter conditions, a snowmobile is the only means of transportation, especially in difficult places. Many people cannot afford to buy an expensive snowmobile, then skill and ingenuity come to the rescue.

Homemade snowmobile: assembly technology

Detailed design drawings and special technological maps for the production of a homemade snowmobile does not exist. Each type has its own peculiarity. Therefore, you can consider the main points of the assembly of the snowmobile device.

At the initial stage, the frame of the future vehicle is needed. Frames for the spar can be made from two steel corners measuring 50x36 mm and two steel sheets (each 2 mm thick). To stiffen the future vehicle, the edges of the metal plates are bent at an angle of 90º.

Now it is necessary to make two through technological holes (under the caterpillar drive shaft in the front and rear parts of the snowmobile, under the axial guides gear train track wheels). The spar tensioner must be mounted on both sides. Additional reinforcing brackets are welded on the lower frame, which should be evenly spaced.

The axle of the track rollers is mounted on the bottom side of the groove. Rollers are located on 5 axes. Each roller must be "shod" in rubber. In total, it turns out when 18 rollers are installed in a checkerboard pattern. If it is not possible to make rollers on your own, then you can use it from a potato sorting unit. By the way, the axles of the rollers can be borrowed from there. The ends of the axles should be slightly loosened in order to be able to cut threads under M10. Duralumin bushings are put on the axles between the rollers, which can be made from a pipe of a suitable diameter.

Each axis of the bracket is fixed with a nut and locknut. All axles work as additional cross members to strengthen the frame, while keeping the spar at a certain distance from each other. There are no other fixing parts for reinforcing the rear and front parts.

Metal corners 30x30 mm, welded to the side member, will serve as snowmobile racks. Three racks will be enough to mount the chainsaw gearbox. The intermediate chain drive shaft is also mounted here. A box is installed between the back and middle parts of the portal. You can use a simple ice fishing box. It will serve as a seat for the driver. The front of the frame is connected to the front axle traverse. In this capacity, you can use a water pipe with a diameter of at least 30 mm. At the ends, additional bushings for the ski handlebar are welded.

The motor subframe is attached in the middle of the beam. All assembly parts are assembled from pipes. A steel scarf is welded in the connecting rack places. This will give the structure strength characteristics and make it more rigid.

A homemade chainsaw snowmobile must be equipped with tracks. This technological part of the design can be taken from the old Buran snowmobile. For normal operation its path should be shortened a little, by approximately 500 mm, and the gaps should be sewn together with a conveyor belt. Gear wheels are made of 15 mm nylon sheet.

The drive shaft is made of metal tubular products with a diameter of 28 mm. A round flange with technological holes for gears. The ends of the drive shaft must be flared and the trunnions must be pressed in there. They must be machined for installation ball bearings. The left tip is made slightly shorter than the right one. The longer part is necessary for turning the keyway, which will serve to fix the driven star of the 2nd stage of the chain drive.

The steering system in homemade snowmobiles can be used from old motorcycles or mopeds. The main condition: it must have a three-lever control. Shifter on right side the steering wheel will serve instead of the gas pedal. Install brake system for such a design homemade product is not necessary. Although it all depends on the desire and ability of the master. The brake system will greatly complicate technical part assembly process and increase total mass designs. The engine for a homemade snowmobile can be taken from the Ural or Druzhba chainsaw.

Structural features of the Druzhba chainsaw

For the first time, the development of the Druzhba model began in November 1955 on the basis of the Zaporozhye Machine-Building Design Bureau. Academician A.G. Ivchenko. Mass production chainsaws began in 1955. The main steel producers machine building plant them. Dzerzhinsky in Perm and Sibpribormash in Biysk. On International Exhibition in Brussels in 1958, the universal chainsaw received international recognition and won the Gold Medal.

Technical characteristics of the Druzhba gasoline saw:

  • engine power - 1 kW;
  • the working volume is 45.8 cm³;
  • total weight up to 12 kg;
  • engine type - two-stroke;
  • tire length - 45 cm;
  • fuel type - gasoline A-92;
  • oil tank volume - 260 ml;
  • manual start;
  • fuel tank volume - 550 ml.

The main advantage of the Druzhba chainsaw can be considered the simplicity of design. The disadvantages include a large mass, lack of safe covers, obsolescence.

A real snowmobile is quite expensive and not everyone can afford it. Therefore, many craftsmen try to make the most of the available materials and tools and collect real miracles of technology. An example of such a miracle is a snowmobile based on a chainsaw. At first glance, the task seems unsolvable, but if you look in more detail, then it is quite possible to independently make a snow scooter or a snowmobile from a chainsaw.

Principle, device diagram, theory, how everything should turn out

All work begins with a plan and drawings, which you can then rely on. Schemes and drawings will be required in order to take into account all the nodes and their location, the relationship between each other and the operation of the mechanism as a whole. Carefully consider the location of each node, as if an error occurs, the snowmobile simply will not go.

Work plan:

  1. First, the chainsaw motor is fixed to the frame made.
  2. Skis are installed in the steering part of the snow scooter, which are the main element of movement.
  3. Then installed steering.
  4. To set the mechanism in motion, it is necessary to install tracks in the rear.
  5. Connect the track disc and chainsaw motor sprocket.
  6. Finally, the driver's seat is installed, which is mounted on a specially equipped place.

The main goal is to save money, so it is not necessary to buy all parts of the structure. Many details can be done independently. Craftsmen recommend using caterpillars and skis from Soviet snowmobile"Buran".

For steering equipment on a snowmobile, borrow a steering wheel from a moped or bicycle. The main task will be to properly fix the steering wheel so that when turning, the skis also turn.

Which chainsaw is suitable for this purpose?

In order to independently make a snowmobile from a chainsaw, you will need, in fact, a saw. Make and model can be taken any that are available. Craftsmen recommend using the Friendship, Ural or Calm saws, as they are the most suitable in terms of technical characteristics and differ in the quality of the engines.

Friendship

The advantage is the simplicity of the design and therefore it is very convenient to disassemble. In addition, the tool does not have the extra bells and whistles that modern saws can boast of and which only interfere with the assembly of a snowmobile. But there are also disadvantages - the Soviet saw has a lot of weight and is morally obsolete.

Chainsaw Friendship

Its specifications are as follows:

  • power - 1 kW;
  • weight - up to 12 kg;
  • engine (two-stroke);
  • tire length - 45 cm;
  • fuel (gasoline).

Ural

Excellent technical qualities professional is the best suited for creating a homemade snowmobile on its basis. The mechanism is distinguished by power and performance, besides it is adapted for use in cold conditions.

Chain saw Ural

Technical data

  • engine (gasoline, two-stroke, single-cylinder);
  • power - 3.68 kW;
  • weight - 11.7 kg;
  • parameters - 46 x 88 x 46 cm.

Calm

It also has sufficient characteristics to be used in homemade design snow scooter. Most importantly, the power of the chainsaw is enough to start the snowmobile. In addition, the Stilev engine is distinguished by quiet operation, which will add additional comfort to the movement.

What skills are needed

You don’t need special skills to assemble a homemade snowmobile, but it is desirable to be able to work with welding and have a welding machine. To use the above diagrams and drawings, it is desirable to be able to understand them.

Component parts

Particular attention should be paid to the component parts.

Engine- is the most important part of the mechanism and is selected with special attention. Its condition must not only be operational, but it must also be installed after Maintenance. The gearbox must also be in good condition.

Asterisks- elements to transfer forward movement from the engine. It is necessary to create a tip on the right that is longer than on the left.

The steering is suitable from a scooter, moped or bicycle. The most important thing is to correctly connect the engine to the steering part.

The brake system in the presented schemes is not provided, but it can be done. However, first think about whether it is worth breaking your head over this, because snowmobiles do not develop high speeds.

Steering sprocket motor

Tools

In order to assemble a snowmobile yourself you will need:

  • welding;
  • screwdrivers;
  • pliers;
  • pipes;
  • fasteners.

Assembly diagram

Schematic diagram of the assembly

Description of the mini snowmobile assembly scheme:

1 - steering wheel; 2 - fuel tank (from the Druzhba chainsaw; 3 - power unit (from the Ural chainsaw); 4 - steering ski stand bushing (pipe with a diameter of 30-2 pieces); 5 - steering ski (2 pieces); 6 - caterpillar drive gear (nylon, sheet s15, 2 pcs.); 7 - caterpillar (from the Buran snowmobile, shortened); 8 - frame; 9 - track roller (from potato sorting, 18 pcs.); 10 - brace back-limiter (pipe ½); 11 - track tensioner (2 pcs.); 12 - track tension gear (kapron, sheet s15, 2 pcs.); 13 - bearing No. 80204 in the housing (4 pcs.); 14 - box-trunk bottom-plywood s4, board board s20); 15 - seat (cover-plywood s4, foam rubber, leatherette); 16 - 1st stage of chain transmission; 17 - 2nd stage of chain transmission; 18 - seat back-limiter (pipe ½ inch); 19 - driven sprocket of the 1st chain drive (large sprocket of the creeper, intermediate shaft); z=38; 20 - drive sprocket of the 2nd stage of the chain drive (small sprocket of the creeper), z10; 21 - driven sprocket of the 2nd degree of the chain drive (drive sprocket of the caterpillar drive shaft), z18; 22 - drive sprocket of the 1st stage of the chain drive (sprocket of the gearbox output shaft), z12; 23 – steering knuckle lever; 24 - steering rod (2 pcs.); 25 - steering shaft with bipod; 26 - front axle beam (pipe with a diameter of 30); 27 - caterpillar drive shaft; 28 - track tension axle.

If homemade is planned for children, then as front control you can take ordinary skis, and if you plan to transport more than 60 kg, then use the tracks from the Buran all-terrain vehicle.

Rack

steering ski: 1 - skid (kapron, sheet s20, from a children's snow scooter); 2 - spring (normally stretched, from the rear shock absorber of the moped); 3 - spring bearing; 4 - undercut (duralumin corner 20x20); 5 - spring cover (corner 35x35); 6 - fastening the spring to the cover (M8 bolt with washer); 7 - support lever (pipe 30x30); 8 - spring for fastening the rack - fork to the ski lever (steel, sheet s2); 9 - spring for attaching the support arm to the ski (steel, sheet s2); 10 - axles (M8 bolt, 2 pcs.); 11 – steering knuckle strut (bicycle steering strut with a crown and part of the fork); 12 – steering arm (steel, sheet s4); 13 - fastening of the steering arm (type M16); 14 - fastening the thrust bearing of the spring and the spring of the lever to the ski (M5 bolt with a countersunk head, 7 pcs.); 15 - lever bushing (steel pipe with a diameter of 30 mm); 16 - plain bearing (nylon bushing, 2 pcs.); 17 - stand bushing (steel pipe with a diameter of 30 mm). In the top view, the parts 11, 12, 13 of the steering knuckle are conventionally not shown.

For the rack, several corners of 3x3 cm are taken and connected to each other using metal fasteners. To get a platform, you need to attach a sheet of metal to the connected racks. This will be the place to install the gearbox and chain drive shaft.

Don't forget the seat support. For it, you need to take a steel module and weld it to the main frame. The module does not have to be large.

Using a beam, connect the front of the frame and the front axle. For these purposes, you can adapt a standard water pipe, which has a radius of at least 1.5 cm. It is clear that this should not be a metal-plastic pipe, but a metal one. At the end, weld the steering wheel bushing, and attach the rack in the middle. This rack will play the role of a subframe for the motor.

Be sure to attach small stiffeners in the form of scarves in the places where the racks are attached. This is necessary to strengthen the structure and provide it with a longer service life.

  1. The Vehicle Law does not classify homemade products as vehicles, so the rules traffic one must know from one's own conscience, and also adhere to them for the same reason. On public roads where he drives a large number of cars can't get out.
  2. Do not confuse self-propelled with snowmobiles. The principle of operation is almost the same, but the snowmobile differs somewhat in the specifics of the assembly.
  3. You should not hope that the resulting snowmobile will be able to drag loads. Although the power of the chainsaw is large, it will not help in transportation.
  4. It is advisable to install headlights, because in dark time day it will be a guarantee of your safety.

Video review

A detailed video review on how to make a homemade chainsaw

Video review about snowmobile testing

Snowmobile is a good means of transportation in winter time. It is capable of speeds up to 70 km / h, is highly maneuverable and quite economical. Unfortunately, the cost of branded products is quite high, and not everyone can buy them. However, homemade snowmobiles can become a way out of this situation. They can be made from improvised materials and their price will be relatively low.

Motoblock base design

You can make a snowmobile from various equipment such as moped, scooter, trimmer, etc. However, the best choice can be considered a walk-behind tractor. Since this unit remains unclaimed in winter, it can be safely taken as the basis for creating a snow scooter. The snowmobile attachment can be made on wheels and this design is simpler. The most difficult thing is to make a snowmobile from a walk-behind tractor on tracks with your own hands. However, he has more high permeability, which can become the main criterion for choosing the type of structure.

It should be remembered that not every walk-behind tractor can be converted into a snowmobile. It is best to use units equipped with:

  • Rear tow hitch.
  • Medium power air-cooled power plant.

The Neva units can be considered the best choice. They are attractively priced and their engines are assembled in Japan. The design of self-assembled snowmobiles can be divided into two main parts - leading and driven.

  • Steering column.
  • shock absorbers.
  • Chassis, for example, caterpillar.

Before starting work on creating a homemade snowmobile, you need to pick up everything necessary materials and spare parts.

Frame manufacturing

You should first study the drawings well. If you wish, you can make a mini-snow scooter of your own design, but many prefer ready-made solutions. For the manufacture of the frame, it is worth using iron pipes. To give them the desired shape in accordance with the drawing, you will need a pipe bender. When this work is completed, it is necessary to connect all the elements of the frame by welding.

The next step is to manufacture front of the main structure of the subframe. This is where it will be mounted. power point and a gearbox, for example, from a Zhiguli. To solve this problem, a stand with holes for the motor is welded to the frame. The drive chain is installed in a special slot.

Chassis

One or two skis must be attached to the steering column using a swivel. Shock absorbers for the front suspension are better to use ready-made, for example, from a motorcycle. You should also decide whether caterpillars will be used for movement, or whether it is planned to make a mini-snowmobile on cameras. Each of these types of drive has not only advantages, but also disadvantages.

The wheel assembly is different greater maneuverability, but inferior to the caterpillar in cross-country ability. Caterpillars can be made independently from various materials such as a conveyor belt.

It is important to remember that they must be light and strong, while providing good contact tracks with a surface.

Chainsaw assembly

On the basis of this tool, you can make a children's snow scooter. However, adults can also use a homemade chainsaw snowmobile. The first step is to decide on the type of instrument. Its brand does not matter if the power plant is working. To make a snowmobile from a chainsaw, in addition to the motor, you will need a gearbox.

For the manufacture of the frame, you can take metal corners and two plates. First, the edges of the sheets are bent at an angle of 90 degrees, and then holes are drilled in them. A caterpillar shaft is mounted in front of the structure, and an axle for gear wheels is mounted in the rear. Also, brackets should be welded to the bottom of the frame, parallel to each other.

An axle for 18 road wheels arranged in a checkerboard pattern is installed in the lower grooves. On the side member it is necessary to install 3 racks made from a corner. To strengthen the structure, the racks are connected by transverse beams. A second sheet is attached in front of it, on which the intermediate shaft and gearbox will be placed. The next step is to make a subframe from metal pipes.

A flange is mounted on the tubular drive shaft. Pins are welded at the end of the shaft, and the right one should be longer than the left one. The chain sprocket will then be mounted on this extension. Since the snow scooter is not able to develop high speeds, then you can do without a brake system.

Making a homemade snowmobile is quite realistic, but you have to make an effort. However, given the difference in cost from ready-made solutions, it's definitely worth it.

We make our own hands and a snowmobile from an old Druzhba 4 chainsaw.

snowmobile idea

In general, the idea came in the summer, to make winter transport for driving, initially I wanted to make a snowmobile with a caterpillar, but I realized that I would not take it out for money and for the right tools in the garage, so it was decided to make a mini snowmobile with rear wheel from a scooter with welded corners, began construction on September 27, 2017.

Snowmobile design

front ski

I found a piece of an old plastic pipe and cut it in half, heating it with a burner, straightened it, after which I took 2 corners, welded them together, welded a spout in front and put it in the middle of the pipe, after which I pulled it onto self-tapping screws.

Transfer to Wheel

I took from a scooter for 8 welded stars from a Minsk motorcycle, driven by 41 and leading by 15,
but after one month of construction, I was offered to sell, a wheel with stars, a chain and a chainsaw, I decided to sell it because the extra money would not interfere in my workshop. As a result, I found a wheel from a garden cart, I welded corners to it, after which I made an intermediate shaft , but it turned out to be a bad idea, because it was not possible to set the chain and the chain simply fell off, in the end I removed the intermediate shaft and put stars from Izh, Leading-9, Leading-43, the gear ratio turned out to be 4.7, after testing it showed that this gear ratio Enough to pull 3 people.

Frame and attachments

I made the frame from what was in my garage, the remains of profiles, pipes of various diameters, corners.
On a piece of paper, I sketched out drawings of how my mini snowmobile should look, but without any dimensions, the frame was cooked by eye, adjusted already in the garage itself, cooked everything myself, old children's skis became side stops, a friend gave them to me, so I didn’t have to to invent something and made it already from the finished one, I fixed the skis with self-tapping screws, but after testing the skis vomited and I had to put bolts on the m4.

The seat was upholstered with a cloth, but then I decided to sheathe it with leatherette.

The gas handle was taken from a motorcycle Izh planet 3, a tank from a chainsaw friendship 4, but after the first test I decided that I needed to attach a towbar thread for riding with friends on ice floes, but I realized that it’s not very good to feed friends with snow from behind, because on them sometimes I find myself in a place, I attached a small shield.

The project and its future

On given time the project is being finalized, and is actively used by me on weekends for good time guiding, this snowmobile rides current on dense snow ice and loose snow.

snowmobile manufacturing costs

  1. Wheel from a wheelbarrow-200 rubles.
  2. Stars and chain 400 rub.
  3. Dermantin 200 rub.
  4. Electrodes Arsenal MP3-3mm 150 rub.
Total: 950 rubles.

For this price, we get a fully working snowmobile that rides, this is the price of one trip to the store, I think it’s not bad at all.
