It was then that the diversified company Bin Jabr Group, Ltd (BJG) from the United Arab Emirates turned to Nizhny Novgorod with a proposal to develop a multi-purpose vehicle that could replace the American HMMWV in the UAE army, allocating 60 million US dollars for the development and production of prototypes. From our side, the main executor and coordinator of the project was a subsidiary of GAZ, a small engineering company "PKT" (Industrial Computer Technologies). After the refusal of the Arab company BJG to continue work on the project with Russian company PKT, each of the parties left a package of technical documentation, in addition, three prototypes of armored vehicles remained in Abu Dhabi, which were tested in desert conditions after being exhibited at IDEX-2001. Design

The car is designed to transport people and various goods on roads and off-road. Is a chassis frame structure, which carries the main part of the units and the body. The body of the car is all-metal one-volume five-door with a cargo compartment, designed for transportation of four people and up to 1500 kg of cargo (armored three-door single-volume, designed to carry 6-9 people and 1200 kg of cargo - for army and police versions of the vehicle). The cargo compartment is separated from the passenger compartment by a partition, equipped with seats that can additionally accommodate 2-4 people.

The center differential lock is activated by a button on the panel, and the lowering transmission row is activated by a lever. Cross-axle differentials - cam, self-locking. Borrowed from the armored personnel carrier, as well as the wheel suspension itself on double wishbones. In addition, a centralized wheel inflation system was also taken from the armored personnel carrier.

Frame armored options"Tiger" is welded from heat-treated armor plates 5 mm thick (7 mm for SPM-2), after which it is tempered to relieve internal stresses. Armored vehicle heavier than usual, with a steel body, by 700 kg. The armored body turned out to be so strong that it was possible to completely do without a separate frame, like on armored personnel carriers. But in order to unify the armored body made removable. So on the same chassis you can install different bodies- closed passenger, armored, with cargo platform. "Tiger" can carry one and a half tons of cargo.
