There is a lot of conflicting information in the history of the creation of this car, but one thing is absolutely clear that the project was born in early 1999. It was then that the diversified company Bin Jabr Group, Ltd (BJG) from the United Arab Emirates turned to Nizhny Novgorod with a proposal to develop a multi-purpose vehicle that could replace the American HMMWV in the UAE army, allocating 60 million US dollars for the development and production of prototypes. From our side, the main executor and coordinator of the project was a subsidiary of GAZ, a small engineering company "PKT" (Industrial Computer Technologies). Specialists from GAZ, the Arzamas Mechanical Plant, as well as a number of aviation industry enterprises were involved in the creation of the machine.
The car must meet the highest requirements as per external design, and on the rationality of the interior. By technical parameters the machine must have good manufacturability in mass production, a simple design of components and assemblies, high reliability when operating in desert conditions (up to + 50С) and the ability to overcome sand dunes. In other words, an SUV in a combat situation must overcome ditches and bumps not with minimum speed in first gear like his civilian counterparts, and race over them at top speed (depending on the engine maximum speed is 125-140 km / h.) Now about the salon. There are only two seats in the first row. It is impossible to establish the third one, because between them, like in the Hummera, a voluminous transmission casing sticks out. On it are the control levers for the gearbox and the Republic of Kazakhstan. Moreover, the latter is strongly shifted back, and it will not be very convenient to use it. True, no one gave a guarantee that the car would be able to drive again after such an impact, but the protection of personnel was provided in full.

History of creation
Bin Jabr Group Ltd (BJG) from the UAE acted as the direct customer of the multi-purpose vehicle, having allocated 60 million US dollars for the development and production of prototypes. The end customer was the King Abdullah II Design and Development Bureau (KADDB) of the Jordanian King Abdullah II. The main executor and coordinator of the project was a subsidiary of the Gorky Automobile Plant (JSC GAZ) CJSC Industrial Computer techologies"(PKT). The first samples of Tiger HMTV were presented in Abu Dhabi at International exhibition weapons IDEX-2001.
The customer liked the cars, but as a result, the contract for the supply of the Tiger was never signed, however, in Jordan in Al Dulail, the Arab-Jordanian joint venture Advanced Industries of Arabia (AIA, 80% of the shares from BJG) began production of identical Nimr armored vehicles in June 2005 in various designs.
So GAZ had a backlog - a car developed and ready for mass production. Several cars of the second series were assembled at GAZ - with a different appearance and interior. It was they who, under the name GAZ-233034 "Tiger", were presented at MIMS-2002.
After at the end of the same year two prototypes of the car entered the Moscow SOBR for trial operation, the leadership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation became interested in the car and acted as the customer for the Tigers. Mass production Tigr vehicles were organized at the Arzamas Machine-Building Plant (AMZ), where it is carried out to this day. On Gorky Automobile Plant Tiger cars are no longer produced.

Design
The car is designed to transport people and various goods on roads and off-road. Is a chassis frame structure, which carries the main part of the units and the body. The body of the car is all-metal one-volume five-door with a cargo compartment, designed for transportation of four people and up to 1500 kg of cargo (armored three-door single-volume, designed to carry 6-9 people and 1200 kg of cargo - for army and police versions of the vehicle). The cargo compartment is separated from the passenger compartment by a partition, equipped with seats that can additionally accommodate 2-4 people.
IN standard equipment car includes: power steering, independent torsion bar suspension all wheels with hydraulic shock absorbers and anti-roll bars, transfer case with the possibility of locking the center differential, with self-locking limited-slip cross-axle differentials, wheel reducers, automatic tire inflation with electronic control, preheater, electric winch.
On the GAZ-233001 "Tiger" can be additionally installed: air conditioning; audio system; power windows; additional heater; independent heater; Anti-blocking system.
The center differential lock is activated by a button on the panel, and the lowering transmission row is activated by a lever. Cross-axle differentials - cam, self-locking. Borrowed from the armored personnel carrier, as well as the wheel suspension itself on double wishbones. In addition, a centralized wheel inflation system was also taken from the armored personnel carrier.
Frame armored options"Tiger" is welded from heat-treated armor plates 5 mm thick (7 mm for SPM-2), after which it is tempered to relieve internal stresses. Armored vehicle heavier than usual, with a steel body, by 700 kg. The armored body turned out to be so strong that it was possible to completely do without a separate frame, like on armored personnel carriers. But in order to unify the armored body made removable. So on the same chassis you can install different bodies- closed passenger, armored, with cargo platform. "Tiger" can carry one and a half tons of cargo.
