The most difficult are those breakdowns in which you have to literally tear off the car body range rover Sport 3.6TD. There are many videos that Range Rover Sport requires this manipulation for any repair. We hasten to dispel such a myth so as not to frighten the real and potential owners of this SUV. This is an exception to the rule rather than a given.

If we compare the Sport with the Discovery model, then in the second case, tearing off the body occurs much more often, because on these SUVs with a 3.0 engine, the diesel engine often jams, breaks crankshaft or the bushings are turning. Sport does not suffer from this problem, its engine runs like clockwork and is considered one of the most reliable in the entire Land Rover line. As LRKing service practice shows, pistons never burn out in off-road vehicles of this model, there are no problems associated with connecting rods that can knock. Most of these malfunctions appear due to oil leakage, engine overheating, or improper DIY repairs. In other words, the driver is to blame.

However, the Range Rover Sport has two characteristic breakdowns. The body is required to be torn off the frame when overhaul engine or there are problems with the crank mechanism. But now we do not take them into account, in fact, just like the human factor. Speaking specifically about system breakdowns, these include turbine malfunction and leakage exhaust gases. In the first case harmful substances pass through the seals of the collector. As for the second situation, it can happen for two reasons. Too much friction in the plain bearings, as well as high flow oils. The turbocharging disappears, and behind it the electric actuator breaks down.

Other engine malfunctions 3.6 TD

The problem may be hiding in the air pipes. Their problem lies in the fact that over time they become tanned, so we recommend that the client change them when passing the next 25-30 thousand km. Very often, when cracks occur in them, even the smallest ones, the machine enters the restriction. Of course, the driver goes to the diagnostics, where they often sin on the turbine, sentencing it unreasonably. Yes, the boost drops, but in fact, the problem lies precisely in the air pipes. To understand that they require replacement, you can even in appearance.

New pipes are flexible and bend easily, while defective ones look like plastic. The pipes of the cooling system can also fly behind them, they are less oil resistant, therefore, when driving on high speed they can simply be pulled out. As soon as you see that a lot of oil is on the air pipe, then it is quite possible that the water ones have also suffered.

Replacing the thermostat is also systemic problem. This procedure is complex and labor intensive.

As a rule, if this element malfunctions, you can see how quickly the antifreeze goes nowhere. At the same time, disposable components, such as a fuel tube, also require replacement. As a result, you are faced with a serious and costly repair of a multi-component assembly.

The USR valves may also fail, although they fail much less frequently than it happens on the same Discovery.

In order to change them, it is necessary to perform many manipulations, including the removal intake system. This work should be entrusted only to qualified craftsmen.

AND last problem- glow plugs, they do not need to be replaced by yourself, since it is quite difficult to pull them out. Therefore, if you have any problems, come to our Range Rover Sport LRKing service, carry out diagnostics, and the engine will always be in order.

It’s going somewhere, it means in the direction of the service”), you can remember at least a dozen. Indeed, in history british brand there were frankly failed models, all the advantages of which were nullified by low reliability. But there are also successful ones, such as the third generation Range Rover, with minimal changes produced since 2002.

Range Rover - the car is somewhat unique. There are not so many SUVs in the world that simultaneously have high level comfort and excellent cross-country ability. The Range Rover is not ashamed to appear in high society, and at the same time, it can be driven in such "directions" where fashionable modern crossovers there is simply nothing to do. corresponds to the status and electronic stuffing car - all the benefits that the owners of premium segment models have already become accustomed to, of course, are here. Do not let us down and the dynamics. On Russian market third Range generation Rover officially shipped with a 4.4-liter gasoline engine, although on sale you can meet and European versions with diesel 3.0 l. Both motors were developed by BMW, which, on the one hand (given the experience of the Bavarian company in engine building), is an indisputable plus, and on the other hand, it is a reason to take out more often oil dipstick as the oil level dropped pretty quickly. Since 2005, after the next change of "owner", "Jaguar" ones began to be installed on the model. power units(4.2 l, 4.4 l, diesel 3.6 l), which have proven themselves very well. Actually, high reliability demonstrate all other units: automatic transmission, transfer case, gearboxes… Diesel 3.6 l - best option for those who travel a lot and like to count money. It is noticeably more economical. gasoline engine 4.4 liters, while it is quite comparable with it in terms of traction. Traditional "diesel" problems (difficult start-up and slow heating of the cabin in winter) do not arise in the Range Rover. Like most models Land Rover, this SUV is already in basic configuration equipped with autonomous liquid heater, which will bring both antifreeze and air in the cabin to the optimum temperature.

Restyling in 2005, in addition to new engines, also brought minor cosmetic changes: new headlights, a radiator grille, a front bumper. The list of options has also been expanded, the design has been updated rims. However, serious constructive changes Did not happen. Maybe it's for the best - there were practically no complaints from a technical point of view.

Do not be afraid of "pneuma"

All Range Rovers are equipped with air suspension, however, unlike, for example, German luxury SUVs, here the working elements (cylinders) fail very rarely. If it comes to replacing them, it is not necessary to buy original ones. At a price of 25–30 thousand rubles. per piece, they are absolutely identical to the same parts from Delphi, which are almost half the price. The remaining elements of the chassis (levers, hinges) can withstand 100,000 km or more without problems. However, when buying, you should still pay attention to the full diagnostics of the suspension. The fact is that due to the good sound insulation of the car, many owners simply do not hear knocks from worn ball or silent blocks, and therefore do not suspect that it is time to contact the service. They're in complete confidence in good working order, and there is no malicious intent in this.

Even in the dirt, even at the reception

Range Rover is great both on asphalt and off-road, despite the lack of mechanical interlocks. Relatively flat bottom with good factory protection of units, large (variable) ground clearance and smart electronics- this is the guarantee of excellent cross-country ability of this, without exaggeration, SUV. Maybe it's for the best that the fight against natural obstacles is entrusted here to electronic systems: after all, the circle of customers for whom the car was originally created is used to controlling buttons.

Of course, when buying a Range Rover, you need to understand that the cost of maintaining a car of this class will not be cheap. You need to be prepared for a fairly rapid decrease in its market value (diesel versions cheaper much more slowly than gasoline). But if you decide on your own experience that SUVs Land Rover break no more often than their competitors, this model is perfect!

Expert opinion

Valentin SAVENKO,
chief mechanic of the technical center "Britcar"

Range Rover, produced from 2002 to the present day (fundamentally its design has not changed), is quite capable of refuting the conventional wisdom about unreliability Land Rover. There really were a lot of problems with the previous generation - we can say that the brand has seriously discredited itself. But modern Range Rovers are some of the most reliable vehicles. Land Rover. I would recommend opting for a model with a 3.6 liter diesel engine: it is unpretentious, relatively economical and provides excellent dynamics. But be careful when buying. If earlier, to twist the mileage of this car, it was required to change the electronic block control (and its cost nullified the economic feasibility of the operation), today craftsmen have learned to work with odometer data without replacing the unit. So great chance to buy great shiny car with a very rich past. Air suspension can not be scared - it lasts a long time. And if the working elements require replacement, the repair will not be ruinous.

Owner's opinion

Ilya DREYER,
Land Rover Range Rover, 3.6 diesel, 2007, 105,000 km

I remember with horror my old Range Rover - a model that was produced before 2002. The business card of the evacuation service was constantly lying on my dashboard, because everything that was possible in the car broke down. Nevertheless, when the opportunity arose to purchase a next-generation car from a friend, I decided to take advantage of it. And, as it turned out, not in vain. Range Rover 2007 MY I have already exchanged the second hundred thousand kilometers, but still does not give reasons for criticism. For 2.5 years of ownership I only consumables. It is clear that the cost of maintenance and repair is higher than that of budget crossovers. I can compare the cost to the maintenance of the BMW 5 Series my wife drives - they are about the same. So exorbitant prices for parts and service Land Rover- nothing more than the speculation of critics who are not familiar with the British brand. The level of comfort is simply amazing. I travel a lot in Moscow, traveled around Finland - you don’t get tired at all behind the wheel. So the car is one hundred percent satisfied!

So! Why RRS? Well, first of all, this is a super modern and progressive diesel V8 with two turbochargers with variable geometry, which ultimately gives as much as 640 N.m. already at 2000 rpm of the engine crankshaft. This is very captivating and attracts me as a lover of interesting and technological solutions. With all this power, the solarium consumption is only 13-15 liters in the city and 9 liters on the highway at a speed of 120 km per hour. Therefore, we drive well, and even save money :-) I don’t like banal “tractors” like Nissans and Mitsubishi Pajero, primarily because of vibrations and noise from a diesel engine. The RRS is quiet and there are no vibrations. I was surprised that even the pillows (supports) of the engine are electronically controlled by the brain of the car and exclude any vibration on the body! This decision is worthy of the 21st century! Now oh exhaust system! The sound of this monster is amazing with its power! One gets the feeling that the gasoline "eight" is accelerating. But it's a diesel! But this, of course, is from the outside, and there is complete silence in the cabin :-) Noise isolation for a solid five, but only engine compartment, but the noise of the wheel arches could be made stronger. Huge R20 tires bring the rest of the sound into the cabin. Pneumatic suspension. Well, this is a separate plus, which allows you to have two in one car! You can have 4 suspension heights! 1) the lowest for boarding and disembarking! And you can lower and raise the car from the key fob! 2) basic mode. About 185 mm clearance in the city and on the highway. Moreover, at speeds over 160 km per hour, the car lowers and improves handling. 3) Off-road mode. The suspension raises the body to a mark of 227 mm from the lowest point of the body. 4) Emergency. If the car in a rut sat on the ground with the bottom, then you can additionally increase the clearance by 7 cm and get out of problem area. Speed 5 km per hour. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Total: as much as 297 mm of ground clearance! Well, damn it, 30 cm ground clearance it's more super! See photos in the BZ. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Handout and blocking! The dispenser has two rows. Upper and lower. Two active differentials are blocked. Center and rear. In general, with such a set you can climb into quite difficult conditions off-road. The Terrain Response system is a marvel of the RRS in its own right. It has five driving modes. 1) Normal conditions 2) Grass-gravel-snow and ice 3) Dirt-ruts 4) Sand 5) Stones-slow speed It is also possible to ford with a depth of up to 700 mm. (I really think it’s possible even deeper if you first raise the car to a maximum of 30 cm of clearance) You don’t have to worry about steep slopes and lifts. That's what electronics are for. Controlled ascents and descents work when moving forward and backward :-) There is also a system dynamic stabilization. The car does not roll at all when cornering. This system can be turned off! For example off-road. Brakes! Everything is short and clear here. The base is Brembo with 360 mm discs and four-piston calipers. Additionally, the factory installed an emergency brake boost system, as well as a cornering brake assist system. _____________________________________________________ Well, about things like mobile phone with bluetooth, navigation and TV (analogue and digital channels), refrigerator, parking sensors in a circle and automatically lowering mirrors when driving in reverse I think there is no need to write here, since there is a lot of this in RRS, as in any modern car with a cost of 2.500.000-3.000.000 rubles Of course, there is also a Webasto heater. There are also heated seats for all seats, numerous front seat adjustments, auto-closing tailgate function (no need to slam), rear climate control, cruise control, auto-dimming rear-view mirror, 55-watt Adaptive Bi-Xenon. Heated windows and side mirrors, as well as headlight washer nozzles and windshield. The hand brake deserves special attention :-) This is not a lever or a pedal, but it's just a button :-) I pulled this button and the car was on the handbrake. I pressed the gas pedal in DRIVE mode and the car itself was removed from the handbrake! Super! _________________________ ______________________ The RRS body, of course, is frame-shaped and additionally installed on it are sills to facilitate boarding and disembarking. They also installed the original mud flaps of the wheels. Thresholds do not underestimate the clearance at all due to their attachment above the frame level. I will describe the car in more detail in the logbooks. _______________________________________________________________ So! Powerful a car for city and highway excellent dynamics and with low fuel consumption. Powerful SUV for nature outings. Not tired? Thanks and good luck everyone!
