Here is also located the differential lock mechanism, consisting of a lock clutch 8, fork and diaphragm chamber 6. Clutch 8 is placed on the internal toothed clutch rigidly connected to the bevel gear 10 of the main drive of the middle axle.

The locking mechanism is designed to force the differential to lock when driving on slippery and wet roads. When it is turned on with the handle of the control valve located in the cab under the steering column, air from pneumatic system enters the diaphragm chamber 6. The diaphragm flexes, overcoming the resistance of the spring, and moves the rod 7 with the fork and the locking clutch 8 forward. The latter finds the splines on the ring gear of the rear differential cup and blocks it, rigidly connecting the differential case to the bevel gear 10. The blocking should be used when low speed the vehicle is moving or before it starts to move.

When the locking mechanism is turned off, the air from under the diaphragm of the chamber 6 escapes into the atmosphere, and the diaphragm spring moves the stem, fork and clutch to their original initial position.

When driving on dry paved roads, the center differential should not be locked, as this results in increased tire wear and excessive fuel consumption.

Half shafts. Half-axle gears with splined holes are mounted on the axle shaft. The other ends of the axle shafts are connected by flanges to the hubs of the driving wheels.

On trucks, fully unloaded axle shafts are used. Only torque acts on such a semi-axis, and all other forces are perceived by the semi-axle housing, since the wheel hub is mounted on bearings mounted directly on the housing.
