Subaru Impreza WRX and WRX STi: is it worth overpaying. Subaru I WRX STI ("Subaru VRH"): specifications, tuning, reviews Unique security solutions

Who among us does not turn around with a sense of admiration and envy after this car? Only those who know a little more about the Subaru Impreza WRX than the average domestic motorist.

Definitely "combat" appearance of the titled "sportsman" Impreza WRX masks a lot of trouble to maintain the high-tech units of this "cool car" and equally significant costs for its maintenance. Colin McRae, Richard Barnes, Tommi Mäkinen and Peter Solberg made this car the idol of millions - but are you ready to learn about it not the most pleasant details?

pure blood

The Subaru brand is owned by the automotive division of Fuji Heavy Industries. The "big-eyed" Impreza became the second generation of the "Subarov" C-class model, which was originally produced exclusively in Japan. Since 2003, sales of a restyled version of the “second” Impreza began in Europe - with new optics and more powerful engines for the WRX and WRX STi versions. New cars accelerated to “hundreds” in 5.5 s (WRX STi) and 6.1 s (WRX).

The most common were 2.0-liter engines (of course, boxer) of varying degrees of forcing, with and without turbines. A small part of the cars for the Asian market was produced with front-wheel drive and with engines of 1.5-1.6 liters (95-100 hp). At the other end of the Impreza lineup was the WRX with a supercharged 2.0-liter engine producing 218-225 hp. With. The most powerful modification of the Impreza WRX STi was actually a rally car created by Subaru Tecnica International and adapted for driving on public roads. The differences between the WRX STi and the “clean” WRX are in the forced engine (2.0 l, 265-280 hp), reinforced transmission, suspension, and brakes.

The most popular WRX sedan. WRX Turbo Sport Wagon station wagons are less common, but five-doors were not produced in the STi version.

In Ukraine, Impreza WRX and WRX STi, the oldest of which have driven up to 300-400 thousand km, are most often operated in modes close to extreme. At the same time, most owners take care of their pets, so you can find a car in good technical condition on the market. However, there are also enough "tortured" ones.

Cars don't rust

Despite the sports and racing relationship, the car is suitable for everyday use: four people are freely accommodated in the cabin, five with some difficulty, there is a roomy trunk (401 l), air conditioning and power windows. Naturally, the STi version, due to the sporty settings, is less comfortable and more strict in management. Impreza bodies do not suffer from corrosion, their “disease” is a broken front end, which is found on almost every instance. On all machines older than 5 years, the fasteners located under the bottom tightly “stick” due to rust. In the interior, the right front seat can be annoying with a creak.

Impreza WRX boxer power units are not very durable - their resource does not exceed 100 thousand km. Even during normal operation of the motor, experts recommend a complete disassembly with troubleshooting and reassembly of all systems. As a rule, by this time, supercharged motors need to replace rings, seals, crankshaft liners, timing belt with rollers. If you do not replace the liners, the motor will certainly knock, new connecting rods will be required and, most likely, a crankshaft that does not allow deep turning of the necks.

During operation, motors require regular replacement of candles (40-50 thousand km or at the beginning of each season), flushing of nozzles (20-30 thousand km), regular monitoring of the oil level, which even on unworn units is consumed in an amount of up to 5 liters per 10 thousand km. At the same time, it is strongly recommended to use "synthetics" with a viscosity of 5W-50 or 10W-60, avoiding "zero" type 0W-30, which is "liquid" for highly loaded narrow necks of the "Subarov" "opposite".

Full but painful

It is better not to use low-quality gasoline: the fuel pump becomes clogged, losing performance, idling is disturbed, pistons burn out. No fluid leaks from the power unit are observed - and this despite the fact that the Subaru motors are assembled without the use of sealing gaskets (with the exception of the block heads). But after 5-6 years of operation, the radiator of the cooling system often fails - due to corrosion and damage caused by bombardment with pebbles and insects.

All Impreza WRXs are equipped with a transmission with equal distribution of torque along the axes through a viscous clutch locking differential. The rear cross-axle "diff" has the same design, the front one is free. In the STi modification, both interwheel differentials are self-locking mechanical (cam or disc type), and the central one is similar to that on the WRX. It is he who most often brings down the owners who are trying to perform police turns or drifts with a “handbrake” and a fan of gravel from under the wheels. There is a malfunction of the central viscous coupling in the form of a "scrap" - hard shaking of the entire machine when cornering.

The gearbox (the WRX has a 5-speed and the STi has a 6-speed) has several weaknesses. First of all, this is the input shaft and third gear, which wear out and break in racers (in quotes and without), abusing intense acceleration. In 6-speed gearboxes, with frequent sharp starts, the shaft that goes to the rear “cardan” cuts off - by the way, the hinges of the transmission shafts do not cause any complaints. Particularly active drivers sometimes manage to "break" the rear CV joints, which cost up to $500 and work without problems with a more or less careful ride.

Experts advise changing the oil in the transmission units on a new car after the first 10 thousand km, and then after 50-60 thousand km.

The resource of a standard WRX clutch rarely exceeds 30-40 thousand km, and if you can avoid buying a new flywheel with a timely first disc replacement, then in the future this part will also have to be changed. Due to the significant torque of the engine, at the time of a sharp start at “high gas”, the drive disk may collapse. 2-3 times more durable than the standard two- or three-disc tuning clutch made using ceramics. But it also costs more (for STi - $2100).

Trust the leverage

Suspension Impreza - one of its most reliable systems. It is completely independent, in front - McPherson type, in the back - on two pairs of wishbones. Before restyling, the weakest point of the chassis was the racks (plastic) of both stabilizers, which served 20 thousand km. Later they were made articulated, which increased the "mileage" to 100 thousand km. At the same figure, there are problems with springs that sag or break, and with shock absorbers - they are often changed to tuning Kayaba with four-stage adjustment ($200).

Forged aluminum levers are durable and only the hydraulic rear silent block of the front lever does not forgive hard blows to the wheel - working fluid flows out of it. It makes sense to replace this node with a rubber silent block from the STi modification. Ball bearings "front end" serve up to 200 thousand km and are replaced separately, and the lever assembly costs $ 300 - 400. Wheel bearings can work up to 150 thousand km.

Steady course and firm brake

The Impreza's steering is solid. It requires only the immediate tightening of the adjusting bolt when a knock occurs in the steering mechanism. Otherwise, due to the “broken” rail, you will soon have to buy the entire assembly, since only the bushing and oil seals can be replaced in it. The service life of the tie rod ends is 50-100 thousand km. The power steering pump works properly, even if the manufacturer's recommendation to change the oil every 60 thousand km is neglected. But its drive belt needs to be changed every 100 thousand km.

The braking system corresponds to the dynamic capabilities of the car, but it comes at a high price. The pads are enough for no more than 10-15 thousand km, and as a rule, brake discs have to be machined with each replacement. If this is not done, the new pads will not work effectively. The discs withstand three treatments or 50 thousand kilometers. They are not cheap: $400 (WRX) - $500 (STi). But driving with cracked or excessively thin discs is not recommended; there are cases of their accidental destruction while driving.

Even on the oldest Imprezas, there are no problems with electrical connectors, which are well sealed. Occasionally, malfunctions occur in the ignition coils, which are installed directly near the candles. When the air filter is clogged, the thread of the air flow meter breaks, so you need to remember it more often: change the regular one after 10 thousand km, and wash the “nulevik” and soak it with a special lubricant every 5 thousand km.

Auto mechanic is a friend of the Impreza

There are enough workshops that take on the repair and maintenance of Subaru in large cities. But these fast, complex and finicky cars require good theoretical training and considerable experience from service workers, so turning to unverified masters can cost the owner a lot of money, and even health. Many “subaru drivers” consider rally sportsmen to be one of the best specialists, in whose “stables” a lot of civilian cars are serviced. Some of the local riders have direct contact with the manufacturer and Subaru Tecnica International division, thanks to which they know everything about spare parts, repair methods, design changes, etc.

The Subaru Impreza WRX and Impreza WRX STi are perfect vehicles for aggressive and sporty driving, which is why they are so specific in content. Many of their owners sometimes do not count the money, but, unfortunately, they often do not also consider the pits and other obstacles they encounter on the road. So choose this model for yourself with great care. To drive such a car, you need to be a fan of it - after all, there are other cars that have similar characteristics, but are more durable and less demanding in content.

Before and after

In 1993 The first generation Subaru Impreza was launched. It was built on a shortened Legacy platform, a larger model of the brand: the same boxer engines, permanent all-wheel drive and fully independent suspension. Engines - from 1.5 liters (97 hp) to 2.5 liters (167 hp), bodies - sedan, coupe and hatchback. Almost decisive for the mass distribution of the model was the victory of the Subaru Impreza WRC rally in the world championships for several years (1995, 1996, 1997). The most powerful versions of the WRX and WRX STi were equipped with turbocharged 2.0-liter engines with 280 hp. With.

In 2005 Subaru Impreza second generation has been seriously upgraded. Together with a modified front end, the car received new 2.5-liter turbo engines: 230 hp. s., 320 Nm (WRX version) and 280 hp. s., 392 Nm (WRX STi). The transmission was equipped with a 6-speed gearbox and an electronically controlled center differential, which allows changing the torque distribution coefficient along the axes.

Personal experience

Alexander, 19 years old
Operates the car for 1 year. Subaru Impreza WRX, 2.0 L Turbo, 225 HP s., mileage - 64 thousand km, age - 3 years.

We chose this car together with my father - he believes that this is a stable, and therefore safe car. I really liked how it accelerates, but I'm already thinking about how to boost the engine. I picked up tires for it for a long time, in corners at high speed it sometimes blows to the side - I think because of insufficiently tenacious tires. Immediately after the purchase, I seriously shook up the transmission, and since then, apart from the “burnt” clutch disc, I have not had any major breakdowns. Experts advised me to buy a double-disc clutch, I ordered it and was very pleased, it still works without problems. In winter, the car consumed a lot of gasoline - more than 25 liters per "hundred" in the city, but this is probably due to my aggressive driving style. I don’t think about another car yet, because I don’t know what could be better, except that I really will tune the engine, at least to the power of the STi.

Nikolai, 40 years old
Operates the car for 5 years. Subaru Impreza WRX, 2.0 L Turbo, 225 HP s., mileage - 84 thousand km, age - 5 years.

As for me, it is difficult to drive this car every day, it is too powerful for city trips, especially in traffic jams. Therefore, I keep it as a spare, I use it only sometimes - when I want to really “break away” or for long trips. There were problems with the power system - the Troilus engine stalled at idle. It turned out that in order to solve the problem, money alone was not enough - we had to look for competent specialists. My friends, I know, had failures in the all-wheel drive system, in the gearbox, but God had mercy on me - maybe because I don’t participate in any competitions.

Many parts and components of the Impreza WRX that often require replacement are produced by tuning companies from the UK, USA, etc. Compared to the original Japanese ones, they can be more durable, so do not be afraid of "non-original". However, there is also a low-quality product of unknown origin, so before buying components, you need to consult with repairmen and specialists in the operation of sports versions of the Impreza.

Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII (2003-2005)

As a serial civilian modification of the “combat” Lancer WRC, which successfully performed at the World Rally Championship, this car is very similar to Subaru. Solid suspension settings give the car good handling at high speed. The transmission here is also all-wheel drive, but the torque between the axles is not distributed by a viscous clutch, like the Impreza, but with the participation of an electronic system. Evik accelerates to 100 km/h in 5.1 s, the trunk is more spacious (430 liters versus 401 liters), but usually it is not this that affects the decision of the Evo or Impreza dilemma, but the buyer's commitment to one brand or another.

Seat Leon Cupra R (2000-2006)

The most "charged" Seat, produced only with an all-wheel drive transmission, can bring the driver no less pleasure than a Subaru. To "hundreds" "Spaniard" accelerates in 7.3 seconds. The essential difference between the Seat and the Impreza WRX: being a "charged" version of a family car - and not vice versa - Leon has hardy and durable units, without requiring such frequent expensive maintenance and repairs. This is also due to more gentle operation, therefore, in the secondary market, many Leon are more expensive than one-year-old Imprezas. But finding a used Cupra R won't be easy.

Subaru Impreza/WRX/XV

Subaru Impreza is a well-known golf class car produced since 1992. The Impreza's place, among other Subaru representatives, is between the Subaru Trezia and the midsize Legacy. Impreza's main competitors: Mitsubishi Lancer, Toyota Corolla, Ford Focus, Honda Civic, Hyundai Elantra, VW Jetta.
In addition to the regular version, the turbocharged Impreza WRX and WRX STI were also produced, which competed on the market mainly with the Lancer Ralliart and Lancer Evolution.

Subaru Impreza engines are mainly boxer 4-cylinder EJs in a variety of designs. The simplest versions were equipped with 1.5-liter EJ15 and 1.6-liter EJ16. The top-end Impreza WRX and WRX STI variants used the EJ20 and EJ25 turbos. Weak 3rd generation Imprezas used a one and a half liter EL15 and a diesel boxer 2-liter 4-cylinder engine. In the fourth version of this car, the new 1.6-liter FB16 and 2-liter FB20 were used. For sports modifications, the Impreza name was removed, and now they are simply called WRX and WRX STI. Their engines are the FA20 on the WRX and the EJ25 and EJ20 on the WRX STI.
The engines on the XV crossover are no different from the regular Impreza.

Find your variation in the list below and find out which engine is on the Subaru Impreza, its number, as well as technical specifications, illnesses, problems, their causes and repairs. Along with this, you will find out what kind of oil you need to fill in the Subaru Impreza engine, the most rational engine tuning, resource and more.

A boxer engine, four-wheel drive and three magic letters S T I... These words, spoken together, work like a magic spell on many car enthusiasts who are familiar with a very "hot" sedan from the Japanese automaker with stars in the logo. I'm talking about the Subaru Impre... Sorry. I'm talking about the Subaru WRX STI. A car that makes the heart beat faster.

Immediately dot the "i". The Japanese dropped the word "Impreza" from the name of the new generation, similar to how Nissan got rid of the word "Skyline" when they released the GT-R in 2007.

Be that as it may, with or without the Impreza, these three letters play a decisive role for fans: S T I. By the way, they mean the abbreviation of the sports division of the Japanese brand Subaru Technica International. The abbreviation WRX stands for World Rally eXtreme, which is a reference to Subaru's rally past, but more on that later.

Subaru World Rally Team won the World Rally Championship Constructors' Cup three times in 1995, 1996 and 1997

To say that this is a legendary series of cars is to say nothing. "Charged" Impreza sedans from Subaru have an army of fans around the world. In every corner of the globe where the local population is familiar with the principle of the wheel, they know what the WRX STI is. I bet that even in some godforsaken village in Burma there is a small fan club "POETS". When a car is so iconic, it says a lot, and above all, that whether you like this car or not, it must be reckoned with.

For the first time the world saw the sports version of the Impreza sedan in 1992, when the 240-horsepower WRX model was released. And two years later, an even more powerful 270-horsepower modification of the WRX STI was born. As you might guess from the abbreviation WRX (World Rally eXtreme), the "hot" sedan was sharpened for rally racing. And "STIha" did not just participate, it won! In 1995, the legendary British driver Colin McRae, piloting the Impreza rally, became the world rally champion. In 2001, Richard Burns became the world rally champion with Subaru. In 2003, Petter Solberg took the championship title, also piloting the Impreza. In addition, the Subaru World Rally Team won the World Rally Championship Constructors' Cup three times in 1995, 1996 and 1997. As you can see, the brand has a rich heritage.

But throughout its long journey, "VERSE" was not alone. Her eternal rival Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution has always walked side by side with her. Also a “hot” all-wheel drive sedan, also sharpened for rallies, also released in 1992, and finally, also Japanese. But the similarities end there, otherwise, starting from the type of engine, ending with the suspension, the cars differed. And they never copied each other, at least they were not convicted of it.

The fight lasted for 11 years, until in 2013 it became known that Evo was retiring. Unfortunately, Mitsubishi's management has said that the current 10th generation of the Lancer Evolution sedan will be the last. As for Subaru, the VERT has changed three generations over the years, the second has been restyled three times. And in 2014, the fourth generation of the Subaru WRX STI sports sedan came out. And unfortunately, he will no longer see his old rival, who has probably already become his friend.

It's a pity, because now STI is ready to fight like never before. Forgive me "Subarovody", but before that STI a little, but lost Evo. And the previous generation was generally one of the most unsuccessful. Not only that, Subaru made a hatchback, but also with a very thoughtful automatic transmission, which caused conversations along the lines of: “Subaru is not the same anymore.”

If you are looking for transport to plop your ass and, drowning in soft chairs, to the songs of Erika Badu, get from home to work, acquiring fat along the way, then pass by

But now everything is about-hoo and even more! WRX STI - only sedan and only 6-speed manual! Under the hood is the same 2.5-liter 300-horsepower (407 Nm) turbocharged boxer engine EJ25, familiar to many, in the common people - a “hedgehog”. True, the engine was modified, adjusted to Euro 6 standards and prescribed a diet of AI-98 high-octane fuel.

In general, there are a lot of old units in the new car: the same differential, the same transmission, but all this has been redesigned, reconfigured and bewitched so that “VERSE”, I’m not afraid of this word, is fire! Plus, the car received a more rigid body and a modified suspension.

Manufacturers of all sports cars face the same dilemma: how to find a compromise between comfort and sport? We know many examples when, in an attempt to make a sports car both yours and ours, it turns out neither. Subarovtsy in the creation of the new WRX STI remained unchanged by tradition, releasing a truly sports sedan. So if you are looking for transport to plop your ass and, drowning in soft chairs, to the songs of Erika Badu, get from home to work, gaining fat along the way, then pass by.

Even in the softest driving mode of the three - Intelligent - "VERSE" will make you count in one place all the legs of the spider you run over. You will know how many edges each pebble has that will fall under your wheels. And since the car doesn’t want to drive calmly in a traffic jam at a speed of 10-20 km / h, it will try to do two things: break your neck and catch up with the bumper of the car in front to gobble it up to hell. Yes, she does not hold aggression. The zombies from 28 Days Later are kinder than the WRX STI.

And all because it does not need to be locked in the cage of a metropolis, especially such as Moscow. Only a person who is infinitely and terminally ill with Subarism can buy it for everyday downtime in a traffic jam, and most likely, you will definitely find a tattoo with the abbreviation STI on him. This is a weekend car, its world is a racing track. Or an empty road laid along a mountain serpentine with excellent asphalt. Oh, if my commute to and from work was like this, I would immediately run to the Subaru salon for a brand new STI. Or perhaps I simply would not have given this copy given to me for a test.

Since Subaru have chosen their right path towards sports, you should not expect something incredible in the interior of the car. Thank you for being there. Interior predominantly dark tones, black leather seats with red inserts (front with power, but no memory), a pair of carbon strips and two multimedia screens and infotainment system. Which is bigger and closer - this is multimedia. It is touch sensitive, there is a navigator. Which is smaller and farther away - this is infotainment. The latter will, at your choice, display information about fuel consumption, turbine pressure, symmetrical all-wheel drive, a view from the rear view camera and other useful things. By the way, the seats in the new STI failed. In city traffic jams, the back quickly numbs in them, and on the highway they are also not impressive: they have very weak lateral support.

In general, having brewed in a traffic jam better than the mash in the cellar, we finally got out onto the track. But we did not go to the asphalt ring, but found a dirt rally track in the Moscow region. The fact that the new STI will show an excellent ride on asphalt did not surprise me. Test drives by fellow journalists, press releases and finally fourth place in class at the 24 Hours of Nürburgring speak volumes. But how far the new generation had gone from rallying was really interesting.

We arrived at the track in the midst of the local rally championship. Among the participants are all previous generations of "POINTS" and not a single Evo. Right then I even cursed, because I really wanted to clash with Mitsubishi in a fight. But alas.

Having arrived without an invitation, we immediately became the object of attention of everyone without exception. Spectators, judges, pilots, mechanics, all broke away from their business to come, look, photograph and ask about the car. Everyone asked the same questions: “Is this new? You mean the newest one? Yes? Wow!". When we finally said for the hundredth time: “Yes, this is a new STI”, people seemed to remember about the championship and returned to racing. But all the same, between each race, I saw a party doing "selfishness" with the new "VERSE".

Finally, the race ended and the track was at our disposal. After a few familiarization laps in Intelligent and intermediate Sport modes, we turn off the stabilization of the car, turn on Track Mode and put the SI-Drive system puck into the wildest Sport Sharp mode. The degree of "clamping" of the electromagnetic locking of the center differential is left in "Auto-", with more traction on the rear wheels. And rushed!

First, I release the clutch, press the gas and... And with stones flying out from under all four wheels, the WRX STI takes off. The car picks up a hundred kilometers with a bullet, the declared 5.2 seconds look true (they did not check the maximum speed of 255 km / h). Gears are perfectly picked up from 2500 rpm, but the main thing here is not to twist too much, which, I confess, I sometimes sinned. The engine is very torsional, so just have time to switch.

Management is fantastic! Power steering was left in the new STI for good reason. Yes, overweight and all that, but what an ideal relationship between the driver and the road. And the suspension and symmetrical all-wheel drive keep the car on the track like glued. Don't tear it off! And I tried, honestly. Dirt track, disabled stabilization systems, and the car fits into tight turns at speed, only slightly skidding the rear, but doing it in absolutely controllable way. And each time leaving the turn, the car shoots forward with renewed vigor, leaving behind only clouds of dust and the joyful cries of passengers.

I approach the hairpin, pull the handbrake and go through the turn sideways in the style of Colin McRae. All the driver has to do is shift into second gear, steer the wheels in the direction of the turn and step on the gas, and the STI will be back on the road. It is perhaps impossible to put into words how transparent, controllable and beautiful the controlled skid is on the new Subaru WRX STI. However, messages coming mainly from the USA say that there were craftsmen who let them go into an uncontrollable skid and, as a result, wound a new "VERSE" on the pole. Well, no comment here.

When purchasing a new “VERSE”, I would be guided by one well-known saying: “we are responsible for those we have tamed”

Well, the new WRX STI gives you an unforgettable experience on the track. I’m sure if we were on the asphalt ring with her, my smile would also not slip from my ears, from how dynamic she is. But most of all I now want to ride it on a snowy track. I am sure that there it will open up better than anywhere else.

As I said, with the retirement of another Japanese "hot" Lancer Evolution sedan, the new WRX STI has no direct competitors born with the same philosophy. In the Russian market, the price for the fourth generation STI starts at 2,069,000 rubles, which, of course, is not cheap.

When purchasing a new "VERSE", I would be guided by one well-known saying: "we are responsible for those we have tamed." So, leave stuffy cities for an army of faceless crossovers, don't torment STI in them, and it won't torment you. STIkha needs empty winding roads, highways and autobahns, mountain serpentines, high-speed primers and, finally, racing tracks. Subaru WRX STI should live in the element of racing.

We thank the Subaru Motor company and personally Anton Tushev for the provided car.

The WRX STI version is known not only to fans of the World Rally Championship, but also to ordinary motorists. In fact, this is a sports version of an improved civilian model. Compared to the WRX, this car has an improved suspension and a modified powerful engine. The car has four generations, like the regular Impreza.

First generation

Years of production from 1994 to 2000. After the departure of the Legacy from the world championship, the Impreza STI version, which has an EJ207 engine with 281 hp, came to the Subaru rally team. and improved suspension. The car had great tuning potential. Some managed to "remove" up to 400 hp from the engine. There were many special versions, which were first intended for Japan and Europe, later for the USA.

The second generation and its restyling

This car was produced from 2000 to 2007. The second generation Subaru Impreza WRX STI had an increased wheelbase for better handling. EJ207 and EJ257 engines were installed, with all-wheel drive, the same suspension, except for the settings. Dramatic changes have taken place in the exterior and interior. In total, three external restylings were carried out. The first is 2002-2005, the second is 2005-2007, which can be immediately distinguished by the headlights.

The first had rounded headlights. The design was poorly received by automotive critics. Improvements were noticed in the technical component, especially in the installed turbines. The second restyling already differed little in technical terms from the first, but the design was radically redesigned. It still seems to many Subaru owners that this was one of the most beautiful designs of all time. In 2005, Subaru engines had variable valve timing as standard. The cars were equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission.

third generation

It was produced from 2007 to 2014. Subaru Impreza WRX STI had EJ207 and EJ257 engines. The EJ207 was slightly modified, it was equipped with a VF-49 turbine, and for the EJ257 a VF-48 turbine was installed. Additionally, it was possible to install an electronic controlled differential. Also in this generation, due to safety, there are arches in the doors. The suspension has become softer, for lovers of measured driving around the city.

fourth generation

Since 2014, the fourth version has been released. Subaru Impreza WRX STI received a completely new design and technical stuffing.

Engines and transmission

The completely redesigned boxer engines have the following features:

  • Volume: 2.5 liters;
  • Power: 300 HP With.;
  • Moment: 407 Nm;
  • Acceleration / Max speed: 5.2 s. / 255 km / h.

The transmission is a mechanical 6-speed with permanent all-wheel drive thanks to an adjustable multi-mode center differential.

Salon

Despite its "sportiness", the interior is very comfortable and thoughtful. Gauges and switches are conveniently located. Dual-zone climate control, multimedia with a touch screen, rain and light sensors allow you to move quickly and comfortably.

Outcome

The main buyers of this car are wealthy people. It can be frankly said that the Subaru Impreza WRX STI is not very suitable for city streets. The full potential of the car and the pleasure of driving it can only be obtained on closed asphalt or dirt tracks.

Which is offered to potential buyers in the hatchback and sedan. Its history begins in the early 90s. It was then that the Legacy models were replaced by the Impreza. And two years later, a car from STI came out. The Subaru concern drew attention to this sports sedan. And soon the first WRX STI Impreza models appeared.

Release of the 90s

The first Subaru BPX models are small, compact cars, in which the developers introduced a turbocharged engine, a powerful suspension with brakes and large tires. The hood was decorated with an air intake, and a spoiler appeared on the trunk lid. And they also made a small clearance - only 15 centimeters. Although for Japan this is normal ground clearance. For Russia, not so much.

Even first-generation cars boasted solid performance. Take, for example, the 1994 model known as the WRX STI 2.0 WRX 4WD. A two-liter turbocharged engine mounted under the hood is capable of producing 250 horsepower. And this model, by the way, all-wheel drive. This car also boasted ventilated disc brakes and fog lights as standard. The main highlight of the interior were sports seats, air conditioning with control and power windows.

Second and third generations

Briefly, it is worth telling about the Subaru VRX 2000-2007 release. Compared to its predecessors, the novelty received a wheelbase increased by 2.2 centimeters and a heavily modified exterior.

Since 2005, all power units of the model began to be equipped with a valve timing control system. And there were arches at the doors. This was done for security reasons. It was also decided to soften the suspension in order to increase the level of comfort.

Then came the third generation. In 2009, the concern released special versions of the models. Another noteworthy car is known as the A-line. It was released by FHI. And the Subaru WRX STI hatchback was taken as a base. A key feature of this model was a sporty 5-speed "automatic", equipped with manual gear shifting.

2010

The third generation began to be produced in 2007. But in 2010 there was a special update. Firstly, the developers decided to expand the body line. Secondly, the name has lost the prefix "Impreza". Since 2010, it's just the Subaru WRX STI.

This car has a very striking sporty design. Attention is drawn to the aggressive false radiator grille, fog lamps, swollen wheel arches, large air intakes, spoilers - in general, the whole image turned out to be very effective.

The main highlight of the interior is a tachometer located in the middle of the dashboard and the pedals are also originally made - they are equipped with perforated aluminum lining. Sports seats are equipped with lateral support.

Specifications

This topic should be noted with special attention, talking about the 2010 Subaru VRX. Under the hood of this car is a 4-cylinder volume of which is 2.5 liters. It generates 265 horsepower. This unit works exclusively in tandem with a 5-speed "mechanics".

But there is also a second version. And it's known as the WRX STI. This version has more powerful specifications. The engine has the same volume - 2.5 liters. But thanks to the connecting rods of the original profile, it was possible to increase the power to 300 hp. The installation of a powerful turbine and a phase control system called the Active Valve Control System also helped in this.

It is also worth noting that this model has MacPherson struts in front. Behind - multi-link design. And in order to achieve better aerodynamic characteristics, it was decided to slightly reduce the clearance (by 0.5 cm). But the main innovation is that now potential buyers have the option of a version with a 5-speed "automatic".

A new 2011 WRX STI cost about $77,000. But now this used car in good condition can be purchased for 1,300,000 rubles. Impreza WRX is cheaper - about 800,000 rubles.

New 2015

Each Subaru BPX model received mostly positive reviews. Perhaps this is what inspired the leaders of the concern for the further production of new products. In December 2014, an updated car was presented to the world, the main distinguishing feature of which is incredible performance.

The new "Subaru VRH" characteristics are very impressive. Under the hood is a 4-cylinder 305-horsepower engine with a volume of 2.5 liters. This car accelerates to “hundreds” in just 5.3 seconds, and its maximum speed is 254 km / h. This engine works in tandem with a 6-speed "mechanics". And it consumes about 12.5 liters per 100 kilometers in the combined cycle. Up front are 4-piston 13-inch ventilated discs. Behind - others. They have two pistons and a diameter of 12.4 inches.

More pleased with the equipment of the car. Already in the base are comfortable seats equipped with lateral support, a 4.3-inch screen on the center console, a 2-zone “climate”, heated seats and decorative carbon fiber inserts. Leather upholstery and a power sunroof are available for an additional fee.

Such a car in the most luxurious configuration will cost about $ 32,000.
