Savings in the right direction: choosing a Ford Mondeo IV with mileage. Used Ford Mondeo engines

What is Ford Mondeo afraid of after several years of operation? What annoys its owners the most and what should be feared by those who buy such a car with serious mileage?

Misfortune never comes alone

The storm of most cars - corrosion is not so terrible. Although this model has a few frankly weak points. A roof that has not been protected with a zinc coating by the manufacturer may rust. Of course, this is not for you, for which corrosion problems body elements completely excluded. near the edge windshield chips appear. If the car was released before 2010, then the trunk lid can walk so that the paint is knocked off the rear bumper, and the rear mudguards seriously sag.

Floor mats and spacers under them can hardly be called durable. Therefore, on models 2011-2012, the material was changed. Also by this time there were problems with the chairs. They from stationary seats, for a couple of years of operation, could easily turn into rocking chairs.

It becomes even more “fun” for the owner when he tries to simultaneously close the front and rear doors on one side. On many Mondeo samples, they can easily touch. Which, in turn, will lead to chipped paint on the edge tailgate. Of course, sometimes this is solved by the usual measures, such as adjustment. But, in fact, after such a blow and the need to paint the site.

IN winter time door seals freeze and lag behind the sill. And even worse, when the lock cable is wedged and the hood simply does not open. The problem is typical for all cars, except for models released after 2010, where the cable was modified.

Another trouble that is typical even for Focuses is the rubbing of wires that go to the trunk lid. As a result, the gas tank flap stops opening. And even more of a headache occurs when the heating filaments going to the windshield burn out. Before restyling, the parking sensors also often broke down. Then the manufacturers revised some structural elements. In particular, the skirt was redesigned rear bumper. Wiring has ceased to suffer so much from dirt.

Oh yes. Another “surprise” familiar to the owners of “Focuses” is that Mondeo after hundreds of thousands can easily cover the fuel pump in the tank. And it costs an average of 450 euros. And that's not it. There may also be overheating, because the temperature sensors, or a fan for 400 euros, suddenly decided to take a vacation. Also, overheating can be caused by the cells of the cooling radiator and the air conditioner condenser, which are located nearby and always clog.

Used Ford Mondeo engines

Engines also have issues. And the least of them with the unpopular Duratec 1.6, which were installed on 14% of cars. They were designed back in the distant nineties. It was a joint project with Yamaha. There were minor problems there, like an unreliable camshaft clutch. It cost around 90 euros.

With Duratec 2.0 and 2.3, which were developed by Mazda and were labeled MZR, there were also problems. The latter - almost 40% of all cars. They may have a coil, ignition wires, or a valve in intake manifold. Yes and throttle valve can also easily fail.

Further more. Approximately to 100 thousand The dual-mass flywheel starts to rattle. Its failure can lead to serious costs. If you pay attention in time, the repair will result in 500 euros. By the way, on Duratek 2.3, oil consumption for waste can be very large. Keep track of the level. Otherwise, anything can happen, even a broken connecting rod.

About 2% of the cars were equipped with 2.5-liter Volvo turbocharged engines. In the crankcase ventilation system, the oil separator can easily become overgrown with deposits. Drive a little in this condition, and a surprise awaits you in the form of squeezed out seals. If it's cold outside, the chances are even higher. But for ignition coils, the worst enemy is heat. And the thermostat is also very “pleasing”, which can easily jam closed. As a result, antifreeze goes past the radiator.

Even more unforeseen situations arise with the turbocharged Eco Boost 2.0. Although it appeared after restyling, it has many weaknesses. And most importantly - pickiness to the quality of fuel. Filled with muck once - that's it. You are signaling check engine and the car isn't going anywhere. And pistons can even crack after detonation.

And there are “glitches” that the engine does not pull even on decent fuel. These are problems with the turbocharger bypass valve.

Things are no better with Duratorq for 2 and 2.2 liters. They were developed together with the French from Peugeot-Citroen. AND for a long time could not get rid of problems with fuel injectors and injection pumps from Bosch. The first cost up to 400 euros, the pump - up to 1000. After these parts were processed, they began to withstand up to 200 thousand km.

On diesels, already for 70 thousand km the valve in the exhaust gas recirculation system can easily fly. As a result, the engine can easily stall. How do you like this perspective?

But even the owners of the most reliable and simple Duratek 1.6 got a lot of problems. Not with an engine, but with a mechanical box, which was installed not only on the Mondeo, but also on the Fiesta and Focuses. She wears out pretty quickly.

Headache caused and large-scale problems. For example, if the axis of the satellites in the differential could not withstand the loads. The result of such an incident is that oil gets into the crankcase, and you will have to pay an average of 2 thousand euros for repairs. If the input shaft bearing makes an unpleasant howling sound, it is better to go to the service immediately. Otherwise, you have a couple thousand more.

box and more

The five-speed MTX75 from GTF (Germany) was installed on gasoline kopeck pieces and diesel engines 1.8 liters. It was more reliable, but oil seals could also bring a lot of trouble. Pleased only grip. It changed somewhere around 120 thousand. The spare part cost around 400 euros.

Perhaps the most reliable box, this is an automatic from Aisin Warner released 15 years ago. This is a real titanium and a stoic that can withstand 250 thousand km without replacement. Unless you change the oil at 60 thousand. But on the newer Getrag 6DCT450, the oil will have to be changed earlier - somewhere at 45,000 km.

Go ahead. The power steering pump, which costs 700 euros, may not be changed if you pay attention to the noise and change the filter tank in time. The suspension is quite reliable, although active systems for 520 euros can fail.

In general, the reliability and durability of the Mondeo is inferior to such cars as the Toyota Camry, but here is some Nissan Teana, or even the Passat, Fords easily bypass. And at the same time, the restyled model will also be cheaper than the above competitors. You can easily take for 800 thousand rubles great option. It will have a Mazda 2.3 engine with a Japanese automatic transmission.

This time we are sharing with you a review, respectively, of a used Ford Mondeo. Don't miss a single detail, this is very important:

In 2009, I bought a 2008 Mondeo IV with 39 t.km. My impressions. Mondeo IV sedan weighing 1.5t, designed for comfortable ride with the corresponding engine, the engine power was enough. During acceleration, of course, he does not show a quick start - he pressed the sneaker to the floor, the engine spun up, the torque was transmitted through the torque converter to the wheels and the machine finally hooked the first one - but it was not created for this. Driving quality. In summer, it holds the road superbly, corners are passed almost without roll, which is ensured by a stiff suspension. Suspension never pierced, at all. Excellent suspension reliability, so far everything is in order with it. At 120 t.km I replaced only the left front hub. On summer tires rutting is strongly manifested. You have to drive along the track in a specific tension, constantly strives to jump out. In winter, much more narrow rubber on the same track rides steadily, at least let go of the steering wheel. Summer rims with rubber consumable. It is normal in the middle fossa to bend the disc and get a hernia on the rubber. Rolling summer discs is a standard procedure before the start of the season. After that, each time on the similarity collapse and chassis diagnostics. Fuel consumption in everyday use, with a daily mileage of about 100-120 km. Average consumption I range from 9.5 to 10.5. With forced mode up to 13.5. Turbocharged high speed engines don't eat oil, and as a result I forgot what oil consumption is. The last time I changed the oil, I poured 500 g more than I drained. Completely satisfied with the combination of the box and the engine cuts in at 110 km / h. When cruising at 140 km/h, the engine is holding less than 3000 rpm, and the best part is that it is not audible. The standard 6-mortar machine has not failed yet, to this day everything is fine. Ground clearance is normal. Even taking into account our roads, I don’t catch anything on the way. In some places it is possible to call on the curb. In comparison with classmates, everything is the same, without options. long base leaves its mark, when moving something, there is a chance to touch it with the middle of the bottom, but it is almost flat and it is unlikely to damage something vital. I am more than satisfied with the Mondeo IV brakes, you can’t imagine better brakes. At emergency braking at a speed of more than 100 km / h, an emergency gang turns on automatically. I change the pads after 40 t.km, the rest is 10-15%. Front native motocraft, behind tried different all for 40 t.km enough. The dimensions of the car are large, there are certain difficulties when parking, taking into account the narrow yards. The body practically does not rust, there is not even a hint of rust in the places of chips, there are very few of them, obtained during parking. In addition to the dimensions left, it is practically impossible to discharge the battery, the machine extinguishes everything superfluous in a very smart way after a while. The salon is spacious, there is a lot of space. Interesting design front seats on the back side, the center of the seat is slightly depressed, which gives additional legroom to the rear of the seated passengers, although there is already plenty of it. Warms up quickly. It probably has more to do with the volumetric engine. At temperatures up to -20-25, the engine warmed up for two minutes, kneaded the box for two minutes, started moving, after a couple of kilometers I went warm air, after another five km in the cabin an acceptable temperature. The interior trim as a whole is nothing, the upholstery was not wiped anywhere, I didn’t really like the plastic used, but there are no squeaks. I am more than satisfied with the noise isolation, with the exception of the noise from the wheels. Noise isolation arches did not. The music is great, I have enough of everything. The climate works correctly, nothing needs to be adjusted, it blows correctly - separate, two-zone. Xenon regular. He asked for a little lower xenon for MOT, not to blind oncoming drivers. It has become normal to shine on the road, and the far one shines into the distance, and not at the tops of the trees. Disadvantages Mondeo IV. The trunk is big, but the opening is small. There is no heating of the wipers, the heating of the windshield is not enough, it is enough to prevent fogging in the cabin. No hydraulic support hood. View in the cabin is hampered by wide side pillars. I'm afraid of pedestrians, when I turn at low speed, they are really not visible. Curb lighting when turning the steering wheel does not compensate for this shortcoming. Reliability Mondeo IV. With my mileage, not counting scheduled maintenance, I went to the service only three times. Somewhere at 150,000 km, overheating was observed in a traffic jam. They replaced the radiator fan with no problems under warranty. Bye.

Initially, all Mondeos were produced only in Belgium. But already in 2009, sedans were assembled near St. Petersburg. They are produced here to this day. Station wagons and hatchbacks were discontinued last year.

The car is unpopular among car thieves: the opened Mondeo is more of a misunderstanding than a rule.

FOR TASTE AND COLOR

Mondeo was presented with the widest range of engines. The younger, gasoline "aspirated" with a volume of 1.6 liters has proven itself well on the "Fusions" and "Focuses" of the second generation. But for "Mondeo" it is rather weak. To drive dynamically, you have to spin it up to high speeds, which significantly reduces the resource. "Mondeo" with this engine is common in a taxi, where he gets how much in vain. As a result, the timing belt often does not live up to scheduled replacement. And the maintainability of this motor tends to zero: there are no spare parts - only a short block (cylinder block assembly) or the entire engine. Although one taxi driver from Cheboksary managed to drive 350,000 km on it. Secret - in quiet ride and halved (up to 7500 km) oil change interval. Moreover, the block head died, and the condition of the cylinders and piston was good.

The 1.6-liter engine often leaks variable phase clutch control valves (VCT). Engine oil flows through them rather quickly, and control lamp lights up late - when less than a liter remains. If the driver did not notice this in time, the unit is kaput. And the gasket is still leaking valve cover, but it's not so bad for the engine.

Atmospheric gasoline engines with a volume of 2.0 and 2.3 liters ("Dyuratek-HE") are the most common. Sometimes they are different high flow oils and are less reliable than the 1.6-liter, but in general they live longer due to quieter operation. Repair is not provided by the manufacturer, but you can find non-original or Mazda spare parts (the latter have a longer resource). The timing chain survives a mileage of up to 250,000 km. Often, cheating servicemen assure her of her imminent death - do you hear, they say, a roar? And it is actually produced by swirl flaps in the intake manifold. This usually happens on a run of 70,000 km. The reason is the increased backlash of the damper shaft from the side attachments. Previously, they sold a special repair kit, now they are increasingly changing the manifold assembly. Competent servicemen treat the disease by installing machined support washers. By the way, these motors also often leak valve cover gaskets.

A rather rare five-cylinder 2.5-liter turbo engine came from Volvo. He was also put on the previous Focuses ST and Kugi. As long as the motor was one hundred percent Swedish, there were no worries with it. But as soon as Ford had a hand in it, sores appeared: the timing belt was exfoliating, oil seals were leaking both because of their wear and because of the breakdown of the oil separator of the crankcase ventilation system.

The supercharged "eco-boosts" (2.0 l, 200 and 240 hp), which replaced the 2.5-liter Volvo engine on restyled cars, burned out the piston at first due to detonation and low-quality fuel. Some owners managed to change the motor under warranty as much as twice - these "ecoboosts" also have no maintainability. After the appearance of the updated firmware of the engine control unit, the disease receded. There were no leaks either. The most common culprit is rear oil seal crankshaft.

For gasoline engines, the manufacturer recommends 5W‑20 oil and, alternatively, 5W‑30. When using the first one (it has a lower viscosity) after 40,000 km, knocks are sometimes heard in the head of the block on a cold engine, so servicemen recommend filling in only 5W‑30. (By the way, only such oil is recommended for diesel engines.) The long-suffering 1.6‑liter engine is most susceptible to this problem. With an interval of 40,000 km on all gasoline engines be sure to clean the throttle body. Please note that the "Check Engine" light may not come on even if the assembly is very dirty. It is advisable to flush the nozzles: atmospheric engines every 80,000 km, and on supercharged ones - after 150,000 km.

Maintainability of diesel engines "Mondeo", developed by the French concern " Peugeot Citroen”, high, any original spare parts are available. If, for example, parts of fuel equipment under the Ford brand are only assembled, then French counterparts can be ordered separately. By 140,000–170,000 km, high-pressure fuel pumps and fuel injectors. Fuel pump wear products clog them so that it is useless to clean. Unfortunately, there is no prevention. The first call is a malfunction of the main pressure pump control solenoid. Symptom: Difficulty starting the engine. Replacing only the solenoid will not protect against the imminent death of the pump. fuel filter enough for 20,000-30,000 km. When replacing, it is important to manually bleed the system - long-term dry running will kill the high-pressure fuel pump. The pumps of supercharged gasoline engines are just as sensitive.

Regeneration particulate filter usually occurs during prolonged driving at high speeds. If the car does not leave the boundaries of the metropolis, the corresponding operation can be done in the service, in manual mode. Due to a clogged particulate filter, not only does the dynamics of the car fall, but the expensive EGR valve (exhaust gas recirculation valve), which is not reliable anyway, dies faster. It sticks in the open position - and the car starts to smoke.

On all engines, except for the 2.5-liter supercharged, after 80,000 km, the right one dies upper support. This can be determined even visually - the motor sags and rests on a metal bracket. The resource of the lower support (about 160,000 km) depends on timely replacement worn right, but the upper left is almost eternal.

The longevity of the turbine depends on the consciousness of the owners. If you let the unit cool down at idle after a trip, then it will last for 250,000 km. traces of oil in intake system- the phenomenon is absolutely normal: any turbine spits out at least a little lubricant. In cars with diesel engines and "eco-boosts" that have been in an accident, some time after the frontal impact, the supercharger shaft is destroyed. Surviving the deformation high revs rotation it breaks.

Once every three years (or every 60,000 km) it is necessary to remove and flush the engine and air conditioner radiators. Saving on washing threatens the death of motors due to overheating. Many owners catch on too late. First of all, all rubber parts die and lie piston rings- coked deposits are to blame. You can try to save the rings, but you need to do it quickly. In the cylinders, through the holes for the candles, injector flushing fluid or another similar solution is poured.

Often, due to the high temperature of the engine radiator, the fan control unit located on its body suffers. Because of this, the electric motor may not work in all speed ranges or even fail. Unfortunately, the unit is only sold as a set. It will be very lucky if there is a separate block from the fan during disassembly.

GEAR RATIO

Mechanical boxes are well known for Fusions and Focuses of the second generation. For a 1.6-liter engine, only the IB5 five-speed is available. On the conveyor, different clutch kits were installed on it. Until about 2010, there were less massive disks, they are enough for 100,000–120,000 km. Later, thicker ones went, with a resource of up to 150,000 km. In both cases, the weak point is release bearing. Due to lack of lubrication (this is often the case even with original parts) it quickly starts to make noise and gets upside down. As a result, the clutch pedal becomes stiff, it is difficult to shift gears, and the disc wears out faster.

Reliable 5-speed “mechanics” MT75 is available only for gasoline 2-liter “aspirated”. Based on this unit, a six-speed version was made for a 2.5-liter supercharged engine and diesel engines. To extend the life of all manual transmissions, simply change the oil after 100,000 km or at the same time as changing the clutch. The right drive oil seal often leaks, and this is the trouble with all Ford boxes.

Front oxygen sensors live on gasoline engines 120,000–140,000 km. The quality of the fuel does not particularly affect their life expectancy.

Front oxygen sensors live on gasoline engines 120,000–140,000 km. The quality of the fuel does not particularly affect their life expectancy.

The six-speed "automatic" "Aisin-AW21" is paired with diesel engines and a 2.3-liter gasoline engine. It is also installed on Mazda and Volvo, but for some reason it is naughty on Mondeo. Shift problems occur when a valve malfunctions EGR recirculation, which affects the change in engine torque (using it, the gearbox control unit calculates the switching). IN difficult conditions operation (hot climate, driving in traffic jams), the “machine” does not have enough cooling - shock switching occurs. The valve body and the torque converter lock-up clutch suffer the most. If you catch yourself in time, then a box worth 150,000 rubles can be saved by installing an additional radiator. Extend the life of the unit and change the oil every 60,000 km.

The Powershift robotic box with a wet clutch is paired only with Ecobust motors. There are several times fewer problems with it than with a dry counterpart at Focuses latest generation. The main thing is to monitor the condition of the oil and change it every 70,000 km. Shift problems occur when the clutch and synchronizers of the first and second gears are heavily worn. Although with careful operation, these boxes regularly serve up to 200,000 km. Only the clutch is supplied as spare parts. To replace, you will need as many as four special tools, so you should not contact random services.

AROUND YES ABOUT

At the steering mechanism, the support sleeve of the pair of gears - the rack that regulates the gap is made ... of plastic. Over time, it deforms and the knot begins to knock. Conscientious servicemen will not breed the owner for a new rail, but simply replace the plastic plug with a home-made aluminum one. According to the factory technology, in order to change the steering rods, you need to remove the rack or fix its shaft. The second option is very risky: turning the shaft can kill the rail. Assembly leaks are associated with side impacts to the wheels.

Front suspension "Mondeo" raises no objections. shock absorbers and thrust bearings walk 100,000 km. When replacing, the correct orientation of the supports is important, otherwise they will not last long. Resource wheel bearings- about 120,000 km. ball levers can be changed separately. The stabilizer struts are enough for 60,000-100,000 km. outboard bearing the right drive is enough for 120,000 km, after which a hum appears, like a hub. CV joints run 150,000–200,000 km. The first problems with rear suspension begin no earlier than 150,000 km - these are breaks in the silent blocks of the lower transverse levers.

The cars are nicely painted. Traces of corrosion on the body will indicate poor quality refurbishment. Wiring front and rear parking sensors routed inside the bumpers. It is not protected in any way from dirt and reagents, which is why it quickly rots. In sedans, after three to four years of operation, the trunk lid wiring harness breaks in winter when opened on high angle. The way out is to buy a European harness with softer wire insulation at the disassembly.

The engine control unit is poorly placed - on the left side front bumper, on the washer reservoir. All of its plastic protection must be intact, otherwise the connectors will begin to rot - you will have to buy a new or used unit for 15,000-40,000 rubles.

On machines with smart system charging, it is important to use the appropriate Ford battery and alternators when replacing, otherwise the electrician will start throwing tricks. To determine whether such a system is installed (the operation of the generator and the charging of the battery is controlled by the "brain" of the engine) on the car, you can use the charging sensor on the negative terminal of the battery.

maintenance regulations

For machines with the same engine, but different years of manufacture, the maintenance schedule may vary - for example, the timing belt replacement interval. It must be found on the manufacturer's technical website - www.etis.ford.com (it is freely available).

TOTAL

Ford Mondeo has good value for money. But a long and carefree life of the car is guaranteed only with careful attention to it.

We thank the FORDEXPRESS service for their help in preparing the material.

Size matters, especially in the automotive industry. Sometimes cars step over the classes, sometimes they pull the whole class behind them. For example, Toyota Camry was once the heiress of a small model Carina, not the largest in the D class. Now it is E ++, which competes in size with the limousines of the past, and the VW Golf is now larger than the third generation Passat, and the VW Polo has long outgrown the first generations of the “big brother”.

So the fourth-generation Ford Mondeo "growth" and noticeably added in all directions compared to its predecessor, so much so that it seems to have moved into a different class. The bet on the size turned out to be correct, this made it possible to gain a serious advantage over the traditional rival in the face of Opel Vectra, and at the same time hope for unification with the American counterpart, the Fusion model in the future. Since 2005, it has been produced on its own platform, since European technologies turned out to be too expensive, and the body size was insufficient.

The Mondeo Mk 4 platform is the well-known Ford-Mazda EUCD platform, on which such great cars, like , and S 60 II, Range Rover Evoque . In general, the technological backlog of a modest Ford is very good - there was something to brag about, in addition to size.

Ford Mondeo" 2007–14

With all its new virtues, the Mondeo has remained true to the brand's core values of practicality and low price. Buyers were offered the whole set of bodies, a sedan, station wagon and a very large hatchback. The choice of engines was noticeably expanded: 1.6 engines reappeared, since they added power, while the weight of the car did not increase so much. But basically, the cars were equipped with well-known engines of the Mazda L series, they are also Duratec -HE with a volume of 2.0 and 2.3 liters.

Diesel engines for the Mondeo were issued in abundance - from 1.6 to 2.2 liters and a power of 100 to 200 hp. With. But the V 6 motors on this Generation Mondeo is no longer. At the top of the range were Volvo 2.5-liter five-cylinder turbo engines, which were replaced with new ones after restyling. Mazda engines 2.0 with direct injection and turbocharging, better known as EcoBoost.

They didn’t offend the car with automatic transmissions either: all engines, except for the weakest 1.6 and the Volvo five, were equipped with automatic boxes gears, and after restyling, the latest Powershift preselectives were paired with conventional “automatic machines”. The kinship with Volvo had the best effect on quality passive safety body, frontal and side impact protection was not lower than that of premium classmates.

Quantity additional systems active and passive safety has increased significantly. Frontal and side airbags were supplemented with side curtains, and airbags for the driver's legs were also available in a number of markets. In EuroNCAP tests, the car received highest rating for occupant protection and two stars for pedestrian safety. It would seem that there are no shortcomings, but this does not happen. The car clearly lacked prestige, and some minor flaws tarnished a positive reputation. Let's take a look at everything in detail.

Body and interior

The body, or rather its dimensions and strength, is one of the undoubted advantages of the car. But you can't say it's perfect. For example, the lack of lockers, layers of mastic and banal thickness paintwork make the body very vulnerable. On the top, it suffers from scratches from trees, cats, and even the nails of passengers - they scratch the area around the door handles. IN wheel arches, the bottom and thresholds are already crawling out with unpleasant red flakes of rust. It appears on poorly protected seams of the body, in places of “sandblasting” and contact between metal and body plastic.

Ford Mondeo Hatchback" 2007–10

Felt fenders, popularly called "felt boots", are distinguished by a short service life - they quickly lose their rigidity and sag. Most often the fault is heavy dirt, rare washes and wet snow in winter, but the root of evil is still on the designers - they clearly neglected the attachment points and the frame for such vulnerable part. Without a locker in the car, it becomes noisy, and the arches begin to bloom with triple strength.

The appearance of the car suffers not only because of scratches. “Ford” emblems peel off, bumpers sag, headlights “blur” very quickly and Windshield. On the thresholds, the paint can simply peel off in layers, and if you do not paint the area within a couple of months, it will also become covered with rust.

In general, the beauty of the car is not very durable, at the age of nine, some specimens already resemble beaten grandfathers with gout and senile spots all over the body. However, the bulk of the car is in an acceptable condition, but if the body is not taken care of, then the damage can become irreversible. Usually the car needs at least anticorrosive internal cavities and tint of problem areas.

Despite the enhanced filtration system, the problems are the same here, and they are associated with big amount contamination in the oil, its high temperature and severe wear of the control solenoids. But the resource of solenoids, pistons and clutches is limited, besides, box seals and bearings are also very sensitive to oil contamination.

A box leak usually does not indicate a problem with an inexpensive rubber product, but a serious contamination of the insides and an upcoming bulkhead. There are few services so far, which official dealers use with might and main - their repair price is at least three to four times higher and sometimes it’s easier to buy new box than to repair the old one. similar situation many unfortunate craftsmen who have become adept at simpler units are ready to take advantage, but the complexity of the design leaves them no chance, and after their repair, often the box will never come to life.

Buying a car with such a transmission, if you do not know where to service it, is definitely not worth it. In practice, the resource of the box ranges from 100 to 250 thousand kilometers. The main consumables are solenoids (by the way, compatible with those used in the DSG DQ 250), a clutch kit and filters. If you often change the oil and carefully manage traction, then the box can prove to be very resourceful, but for most drivers, for some reason, everything is not so good.

Motors

Mondeo Mk 4 engines are familiar to all fans Ford cars. Motors 1.6 of the Zetec -SE series are the same as on. Motors 2.0 and 2.3 are familiar from the past. I repeat, these are very successful engines, with a good resource and inexpensive repairs. They have drawbacks, and in the Mondeo, a tight layout is an additional risk factor. engine compartment and very tight heatsinks that clog easily. In addition, there is no temperature sensor here - the manufacturer bashfully hides that the thermal regime of the engines is very intense, and often the engines operate at temperatures above 115 ° C.

It is highly recommended to install tuning firmware with a different fan control algorithm and a “cold” thermostat at 85-90 ° C. This tuning reduces the tendency of these engines to leak oil under the hood. And also - it seriously reduces the chances of losing antifreeze, which leaves through the tubes of the automatic transmission heat exchanger and expansion tank. The main problems of motors - bad tires tubes, gland and seal leaks and weak ignition modules,

The newer EcoBoost units don't really differ much from the older ones. Other cylinder heads, direct injection and turbocharging do not make the engine completely different. By the way, the operating temperature of these engines is less than that of atmospheric ones, and they have fewer leaks. But on our gasoline, engines are very sensitive to fuel quality, and the degree of forcing 2.0 engines is so high that the 240-horsepower version often fails with damage piston group and scuffed liners. Options for 200-203 liters. With. at the same time, they can be considered a very, very reliable option.

But do not look at the data sheet, a lot of inexpensive firmware has been made for these engines with a power of 270 to 300+ forces from Rambach, Beletsky and other chip tuners, so 200 hp engines. With. they could well depart for a long time with a limit of 300 forces and a moment of more than 450 Nm. What this is fraught with, I already wrote in detail in the material about. In general, be vigilant - without instrumental diagnostics, such a motor can bring not joy, but a lot of grief. So far, the engines are relatively new, but they have been used for a long time on the Mazda CX -7 and Mazda MPS, and we can say that the resource has dropped significantly, and the resource of the piston group and chains has also decreased. So, in addition to a quick failure, we can expect a banal “oil burner” and stretching of the timing. And don't forget about the maintenance cost of direct injection fuel equipment.

Diesel engines of French origin, PS A DW 10 and PSA DW 12, make up the bulk of diesel engines on the Mondeo. When operating on low viscosity oils there are problems, it lifts the liners of the motor and turbine, oil burnout appears due to wear of the rings. But already on oils of viscosity SAE 30 and SAE 40, most of the difficulties were gone. But fuel equipment it is still considered excellently capricious, and these motors are far from being serviced everywhere. In any case, in Peugeot or Land Rover services with mechanical problems or the injection system will be sorted out much faster than in the Ford.

What to choose?

Does size matter to you? Is comfort more important than prestige? If the answer to both questions is yes, then Mondeo-4 is created for you. True, it is better to buy it from simple motors and boxes, find a better package, and the body - as well-groomed as possible. There are enough shortcomings, but the manufacturer did an inexpensive car, you have to come to terms with it.

And the Mondeo Mk 4 is beautiful - though not as ceremonial as the heir, but still attracts the eye to this day. It is not “for the soul” at all, it is for the body. Well, for the passengers. Of course, if you really care about them.

Many car owners want to know how to properly remove the catalyst for the Ford Focus 4 2.3 Duratec-HE and what are the disadvantages of this procedure.

The catalyst for Ford Focus 4 2.3 is designed to reduce the toxicity of exhaust gases. This process occurs on the walls of thin channels catalytic converter and is only possible with elevated temperature. For more quick warm-up before operating temperature the designers placed the catalyst immediately after the exhaust manifold ( see photo below).

This car often differs increased consumption oils. For cars with mileage over 80 thousand, it is necessary to carefully monitor its level. As soon as the consumption is 1 liter per 1000 km or more, it is urgent to change the rings. Otherwise, oil will begin to get inside the catalytic converter, which will be the main cause of its breakdown.

Driving with a broken catalytic converter will not work for a long time. Some people think that its failure will only be highlighted with an orange icon on the panel, and diagnostics will show error P0420. In fact, its channels will sinter and collapse. At a certain point, the car will start to start poorly and lose a significant part of its power. On the Ford Mondeo forums, you can also find stories from car owners about the ceramic chips of a destroyed catalytic carrier getting into the working part of the engine.

Removing the catalyst and subsequent flashing the Euro-2 control unit is the most reliable solution to the problem. You can cut costs a little and put it on the back instead of firmware oxygen sensor snag. But in this case, it is necessary that the sensor itself be in working order.

The main disadvantage of removing the catalyst is that the car begins to pollute more actively. environment. When the car warms up in cold weather, bad smell its exhaust gases.
