Frankfurt-2017: what will be shown at the main motor show of the planet

From 12 to 24 September, Frankfurt will host an international motor show - the largest in the motor show, which is traditionally dominated by European manufacturers. A lot of premiers have been prepared, but the upcoming exhibition may
be remembered not only by them. Several major brands refused to participate in the salon.
It is known that Peugeot, DS, Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Jeep, Nissan, Infiniti, Mitsubishi and Volvo will miss this year's motor show - a set of brands that account for about 20% of European sales. In addition, there will be no Rolls-Royce stand in Frankfurt, and the new Phantom will be shown in a more intimate setting. The American Tesla will not come either. Those who did not have time to prepare a set of new products for the autumn considered participation in the salon burdensome from a financial point of view. Fortunately, this does not apply to all brands. Frankfurt is still very big.
compact cars
Compacts are still in good demand in Europe, but consumer interest is shifting towards crossovers. In the golf class, no noticeable premieres are expected at all, and in the more compact segment, they are at a minimum. For example, a sports version of the Suzuki Swift hatchback with a different finish, sports seats and an external body kit. The compact will receive a 1.4-liter gasoline turbo engine with 140 hp. from the crossover Vitara S and "mechanics".
And the main premiere of the segment should be a hatchback Volkswagen Polo new generation. Like most of the current line of the brand, the new Polo is built on the MQB platform, or rather, its shortened version. This version of the chassis has already formed the basis of the Seat Ibiza hatchback. The future Polo will retain the usual style, but will noticeably freshen up. Headlights in the style of the current Golf, chrome grille strips, elongated bumper air intakes.
The salon will become better, the dashboard will become digital, the media system will become more complex. The range of engines includes 12 units with three and four cylinders plus a hybrid power plant. The top version of the Polo GTI will receive a "turbo" with a capacity of 200 horsepower. It is possible that we will someday see some of the changes on the next generation Russian Polo sedan. And on the basis of the new Polo in 2018, they promise a new subcompact crossover.
Inexpensive crossovers
T-Roc is based on MQB platform with units from Polo and Golf. In terms of size, the crossover has approached the latter, and in the lineup it will be one step below the Tiguan. The range of engines will accommodate gasoline units with a capacity of 1.0 to 1.8 liters (105 to 190 hp), as well as a number of diesel engines with a volume of 1.6 and 2.0 liters, developing from 115 to 150 horsepower. In addition to the six-speed "mechanics", they will offer a seven-band "robot" with two clutches. Finally, T-Roc will have a "charged" modification with a 310-horsepower engine.
Serial Volkswagen release T-Roc for Europe will start before the end of this year at a plant in Palmela, Portugal. The Germans are in a hurry to enter the market, as competitors are on the alert. Several more models of this segment will be brought to Frankfurt, each of which claims to be the main competitor of the super-successful Nissan Juke.
Volkswagen T-Roc
For example, the Seat Arona platform crossover, named after the city of the same name in Spain. At 4.14 meters long, it looks like a new-generation Ibiza compact, but has a 400-liter boot. It will differ from the T-Roc in a more modest range of engines, but the Spaniards promise equipment at the level.
Another promising option is Kia crossover Stonic, coplatform to the previously shown Hyundai Kona. The model on the Rio platform is no longer than 4.2 m and has a boot volume of 360 liters. There are four engines in the range, including three-cylinder turbo engines with power from 100 to 100 horsepower.
Another high-profile premiere could be the new Dacia/Renault Duster, which is being prepared in the strictest secrecy. Test prototypes of the second-generation machine have been caught in camera lenses more than once, but technical information extremely few. The successor will either receive an upgraded predecessor platform or Nissan's CMF-C chassis, which is used on the Renault Kadjar and Nissan Qashqai. The silhouette, judging by the presented spy photos, will remain recognizable, but the design of the front and rear parts will change. Finally, the French can show and seven-seater Grand Duster, although so far these are just rumors.
Premium crossovers
Stylish crossover BMW X2 even in camouflage looks cheerful and differs little from the concept. Only bumpers, optics and a glazing line have changed in order to improve visibility. The car was built on the UKL front-wheel drive platform, which underlies the younger BMW crossover X1, 2-Series Active Tourer and Grand Tourer models. An all-wheel drive modification of the X2 will also be available as an option.
In fact, the X2 is the more stylish X1 and will have the same range of engines. These are two-liter diesel units 150, 190 and 230 hp with a six-speed manual transmission or automatic transmission. The only gasoline engine is a 192-horsepower, 2.0-liter volume. It is clear that more powerful options will appear in the future. Sales of the BMW X2 in Europe will begin in 2018, and it will compete with the Range Rover Evoque, Land Rover Discovery Sport and Volvo XC60.
Another strong competitor is the Jaguar E-Pace, which the British presented to the press a little earlier, so everything is known about the car, right down to the prices. Russian dealers are already accepting orders (prices start at 2,455,000 rubles), and the first cars will be delivered to our country in the spring of 2018.
The E-Pace shares a platform with the Land Rover Discovery Sport, four-cylinder two-liter engines are located transversely. The range includes diesel engines with a capacity of 150, 180 and 240 hp, gasoline engines with a return of 248 and 300 horsepower. Crossovers with initial engines are equipped with a Standard Driveline all-wheel drive transmission with an electronically controlled center clutch, and the top versions are equipped with an Active Driveline system with two controlled clutch packs on the rear axle. A new technology for the market can be called a secure bracelet-key Activity Key, which allows you to lock the car, leaving valuables and a traditional key inside.
SUVs
A real stir in the larger segment could be the new Mercedes-Benz G-Class. Instead of finally sending the Gelendvagen to rest, the Germans from year to year led it to new legislative ones, but this time it seems to be about really new car. According to preliminary information, the car is being built on a new platform, thanks to which the SUV will lose 400 kg of weight. The angular style will remain absolutely recognizable, but the aerodynamics will be significantly improved.
At the first stage, the range of engines will include gasoline units with a capacity of up to 360 hp. and several diesels up to the V6 engine with a return of 313 horsepower. Later, an upgraded 4.0-liter V8 Biturbo petrol engine will appear, with power ranging from 470 to 600 horsepower. Of course, it is worth waiting for the AMG version, but not before 2018.
Mercedes-Benz G-Class
long awaited Volkswagen Touareg new generation will be built on the MLB Evo platform, like the Audi Q7 and Bentley Bentayga. The car will become larger and drop about 200 kg due to light-alloy materials. And it is he who will become the bearer of the new design idea shown on concept T-Prime GTE. Touareg will be offered in five- and seven-seater versions, as well as in a version with four separate seats. The range of engines will be a whole range from 2.0-liter TSI to V6 and V8 engines, plus a hybrid modification.
BMW is also preparing a new flagship SUV, and we are talking about a completely new car with the X7 index. More precisely, about the X7 Concept, which runs on fuel cells. The Bavarians have been experimenting with hydrogen cars for a long time, and for the X7 they have prepared an installation with a capacity of 245 horsepower. At the same time, the power reserve on one refueling with hydrogen reaches 500 kilometers.
Most likely, the matter will be limited to experiment, and the future X7 will receive traditional units. The production version will debut next year. The car is being built on the older CLAR platform, so the engines, up to the flagship V12, will be located longitudinally, and all-wheel drive will appear.
Middle class sedans
If we exclude from the model premium brands, the segment is dying, and the Europeans are not interested. Previously Brand Peugeot announced a new generation of the 508 sedan, but there will be no brand at all in Frankfurt. The only novelty with a stretch can be called a relatively fast Opel Insignia GSi. The modification was equipped with a two-liter four-cylinder turbo engine developing 260 hp. and 400 Nm of torque. The engine is paired with a new eight-speed automatic transmission with the ability to change steps using the paddles on the steering wheel.
Opel Insignia GSi passes the Nurburgring Nordschleife faster than the previous Insignia OPC, which was equipped with a 325-horsepower V6 2.8 engine. Thanks to the new chassis and compact engine, the Insignia GSi is 160 kg lighter. The novelty has an all-wheel drive transmission, a mechatronic chassis with adaptive dampers, a reconfigured suspension with a 10 mm lower ground clearance, as well as a torque distribution system between the rear wheels and an electronic imitation of a differential lock on the front axle.
electric cars
If hydrogen cars are still exotic, then electric cars on the stands have not surprised anyone for a long time. In Frankfurt, Volvo promises to introduce a whole sub-brand, under which, in partnership with the Polestar court division, serial electric cars will be produced from 2019. And BMW is preparing an updated i3 for the salon with a slightly modified appearance and the same technical filling. On a single charge, the model can travel up to 300 kilometers.
The Frankfurt Motor Show 2017 showed new items in abundance: Audi A8, Duster, VW T-Roc - a Golf-based crossover, and these are only three podiums, let's go through all of them.

Audi
New Audi A8, Audi RS 4 Avant and two more Audi premieres at the 67th Frankfurt International Motor Show(IAA)
Audi offers its customers two eco-friendly alternatives in the middle class: the new A4 Avant g-tron and the new A5 Sportback g-tron. Both models are powered by a bivalent 2.0-TFSI engine with 170 hp. It runs either on the climate-friendly Audi e-gas branded fuel, methane (CNG = compressed natural gas) or petrol.
The Audi A4 Avant g-tron and A5 Sportback g-tron advertise practicality with a range of 950 km, of which up to 500 km on gas.
2.0-TFSI engine develops 170 hp. and a torque of 270 Nm. The A4 Avant g-tron with the S tronic gearbox consumes 3.8 kg of gas per hundred on the combined cycle, while CO2 emissions are 102 g / km. On gasoline, respectively, 5.5 l / 100 km and 126 g / km.
In the case of a manual 6-speed gearbox, the A5 Sportback g-tron accelerates to hundreds in just 8.5 seconds, the maximum speed is 226 km/h (A4 Avant g-tron: 223 km/h).
When the pressure in the cylinder drops to 10 bar (corresponding to a residual gas of 0.6 kg), the engine automatically switches to petrol. The most environmentally friendly way, however, is to drive with Audi e-gas. It is synthesized from water and CO2, or from organic waste such as straw or leaves. The Audi e-gas then absorbs exactly as much CO2 from the atmosphere as it then releases while driving.

Bentley Continental GT is a mass model for this brand. Next year, the next generation will appear, presented today in Frankfurt. The GT has shed 200 kilos, while its W12 has been boosted to 635 hp. So now acceleration to the first hundred will take less than 4 seconds, and in total you can sink up to 330 km / h. Other innovations include a new set of assistants, huge displays and a 48-volt on-board network.

BMW unveils updated GT (Gran Turismo) that combines sedan ride comfort upper class and coupe aesthetics. The widespread use of aluminum and high-strength steels has reduced the weight by 150 kg compared to its predecessor.
Together with improved aerodynamics, increased power and efficiency of the new engines, this adds to the sportiness and at the same time improves economy. Depending on the engine, acceleration to hundreds was reduced by 0.7 s. Fuel consumption decreased by 15%. Serial equipment included a rear air suspension with automatic clearance control.
The length of the machine has increased by 87 mm to 5091 mm, the height has decreased by 21 mm to 1538 mm. The width remained unchanged (1902 mm).
The drag coefficient has dropped from 0.29 to 0.25 thanks to active air intake valves and other measures: Air Curtains, Air Breather and an automatic spoiler.
The engines of the new BMW 6er Gran Turismo are equipped with TwinPower Turbo technology and combined with an 8-speed Steptronic gearbox. The 2-liter engine of the BMW 630i Gran Turismo develops 258 hp. and 400 Nm. This ensures acceleration to hundreds in 6.3 seconds with an average fuel consumption of only 6.6 l / 100 km.
The 3-liter in-line diesel produces 265 hp. and 620 Nm. With it, the BMW 630d xDrive GT accelerates in 6.0 seconds at just 5.3 l/100 km.
The updated X3 has not changed much in appearance, except that the nostrils are slightly swollen. Yes, foglights are no longer round, but hexagonal. But a lot of new under the hood. For the first time in this family, the "M" version appeared. So, the X3 M40i extracts as much as 360 hp from its inline three-liter six. and accelerates to hundreds in 4.8 s. And in 2020, the X3 will be the first non-i model with pure electric drive.
But the i3 electric car has already been redesigned. Now the batteries are lithium-ion batteries with an energy capacity of 33 kWh. Which theoretically should provide a power reserve of 300 km in regular version or 280 km in a sporty i3s. The latter has 14 hp. more, and the clearance, on the contrary, is reduced.

BMW Alpina The D5 S is the world's most powerful mass-produced diesel car today! Its in-line 3-liter six produces between 4000 and 5000 rpm. (and this in itself is unusual for a diesel!) 388 hp. And the torque at 1750 - 2650 rpm. reaches 800 Newtonometers.
D5 S accelerates to hundreds in 4.4 seconds, and to 200 km / h in 17 seconds. The maximum speed is 286 km / h. At the same time, in a standard combined cycle, i.e., with a quiet ride, he has enough 6.6 liters per 100 kilometers. The all-wheel drive diesel car has a sports chassis, a differential lock, a "driver feel switch" (that's right!) and an 8-speed ZF sports automatic. The D5 S is available in sedan and wagon body styles. From November, the diesel supercar will be available in Europe for 87,900 euros.
Brabus
Brabus showed the Rocket 900 super convertible, based on the Mercedes-Benz S 65. Surprisingly, he received a road permit. Judge for yourself: 900 hp, 1500 Newtonometers, 3.9 s to hundreds and a maximum speed indicated as “over 350 km/h”. These parameters make the car the world's fastest 4-seater convertible with a permit.
This was achieved by increasing the working volume of V12 from 6 to 6.3 liters. Frantic power is transmitted to rear wheels(!) Through a specially modified seven-speed DSG box. At the same time, it had to reach 4200 rpm. limit torque to 1200 Nm.
Brabus Rocket 900 6.3 V12 can be bought both as a complete set and as a conversion order on an existing Mercedes-Benz S 65 Cabriolet. Appetite? Healthy: 13.9 l/100 km. in a standard mixed cycle. At maximum speed, it is probably limitless.
Chery
Chery launches in European markets with a new compact SUV.
Chery will test the chances of selling new cars in key markets for private and corporate customers. In addition, it is planned to open new research and design centers in Europe.
Citroen I took a puff in Frankfurt for myself and for those guys - Peugeot and DS.
The C3 Aircross SUV is the successor to the C3 Picasso. It has a spacious and variable interior. Power range of three- and four-cylinder engines from 93 to 136 hp. Start of sales in Europe - November, price from 15,200 euros.

Dacia
Dacia has brought perhaps the most interesting world premiere of the Duster for us. New SUV received a modern design that further emphasizes the reliable character of the model. So, the headlights are shifted outward, which makes the car visually wider. Decorate the car and divided into 3 segments daytime running lights.
The grille was replaced, the silver protection from below was increased. It is made of a more durable material that is scratch resistant.
The windshield has moved 10 cm forward and tilted more than before. This increased the internal volume. Interior trim materials are more expensive, there is also Internet access.
Despite all the innovations, the Duster 2 will remain an affordable and functional all-terrain vehicle for every day.

Ferrari
Ferrari has brought a new GT-model Portofino. Its V8 turbo engine develops 600 hp, which is enough to reach 320 km / h and accelerate to hundreds in 3.5 seconds. The Ferrari Portofino is the most powerful convertible with a relatively spacious cabin for two riders in front and two more in the back for short trips.
The new chassis is much lighter than the California T's predecessor. The Design Center boasts a Two-Box body style, new for a hardtop coupe-convertible.
Particular emphasis has been placed on comfort with a 10.2-inch touchscreen entertainment system, 18-way electrically adjustable front seats and climate control that works even with the roof down! The wind deflector reduces cabin airflow and noise by 30%.
Ford
Ford brought several new products, but all of them are only of the European level, the Americans are already familiar with it.
Ford Mustang has become sleeker, faster and more modern, even though it's a classic. It has a more powerful V8, a modified chassis and a lot of electronic assistants. The 5.0L engine has been boosted to an impressive 450 Mustangs. In addition to this engine, there is also a more familiar one for Europeans. A 2.3-liter gasoline turbo four with direct injection, which also develops quite decent 290 hp. A 10-speed automatic with instantaneous gear changes has also become a novelty.
The list of options includes shock absorbers with the MagneRide system, which also instantly responds to the quality of the road surface. In addition to the already known driving modes "Normal", "Sport", "Track" and "Rain / Snow", an unusual freely configurable driver "My Mode" and "Drag" appeared, with which a cannon shot from a traffic light is guaranteed in less than 4 seconds before hundreds.
Assistants are quite familiar to modern Europeans, a 12-inch display reigns on the instrument panel. The Ford SYNC 3 voice control system is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It uses an additional 8-inch touch screen.
Ford EcoSport for the first time received a version with all-wheel drive and a new 1.5-liter 125-horsepower EcoBlue turbodiesel. And front-wheel-drive variants are powered by an award-winning 1-litre three-cylinder EcoBoost engine tuned for 100, 125 or 140 hp. In addition to all this, a sports version of the model with the ST index appeared.
Ford Tourneo Custom was equipped with a particularly flexible interior for 9 people. This is the only model in the segment that has 6 individual seats in the second and third rows that can be deployed for meetings. Climate control is also improved here, there are 6 USB ports and a ten-speaker audio system.
The power unit is based on a 170-horsepower EcoBlue turbodiesel and a high-speed 6-speed SelectShift automatic. The air suspension of the rear axle provides excellent rider comfort.
Honda
Honda unveils 2018 Jazz for the first time in Europe model year. In addition to new design elements, it can be ordered with a 1.5-liter i-VTEC gasoline engine with 130 hp.
Externally, the novelty is distinguished by a modified front end, headlights and a radiator grille.
The optional CVT has been redesigned to run smoother under acceleration.
The updated Jazz has a trunk volume of 354 liters. But with the seats folded down, even lengths of 2480 mm can be loaded at a height of up to 1280 mm.
Standard equipment includes tempomat, urban automatic brake CTBA. In addition, you can order the Honda Connect multimedia system, rear view camera, keyless entry and engine start, Forward Collision Warning, Traffic Sign Regocnition and Traffic Assist Stripe Lane Departure Warning.
Motor 1.3-i-VTEC with a power of 102 hp will also remain available.
Hyundai

Hyundai introduced three new products: the Lifestyle-SUV Kona, the i30 N High-Performance compact sports car and the i30 Fastback five-door sports coupe.
Kona expands its current Tucson, Santa Fe and Grand Santa Fe SUV portfolio down. This is the first Hyundai model in Germany with a Head-up display. By the start of sales this fall, it will offer two gasoline turbo engines with direct injection with a capacity of 120 and 177 hp. An all-new diesel is expected in 2018 with two maximum power settings. In addition, an electric version of the Kona is also planned.
Hyundai i30 N - the first extreme powerful car stamps. Its two-liter four develops 250 and even 275 hp. In the latter case, the i30 N Performance has an electronically controlled differential and a sport muffler with adjustable valves. Sales start in October.
Hyundai i30 Fastback will appear early next year and is a five-door with a silhouette typical of a coupe. In addition to the roof line, the design of the front and rear has also been changed.
The 4.40m Jaguar E-Pace will go on sale early next year for €34,950. With the exception of the basic front-wheel drive version with a mechanical six-speed, the company equips this model with all-wheel drive and a 9-speed automatic from ZF. But the engines under the hood are only 4-cylinder, and are installed across. From a working volume of 2 liters of diesel, 150, 180 or 240 hp are extracted, and turbocharged gasoline engines - 249 and 300 horses.

It is the most powerful road-legal Jaguar to date. The compact all-wheel drive sedan accelerates from standstill to hundreds in 3.7 seconds and develops 322 km / h. Interestingly, in addition to the 4-seater version, the company also offers a double version specially for indoor tracks. It has carbon seats, rollover protection and a cross beam for attaching seat belts. In total, 300 of these cars will be produced, and all of them are left-hand drive. €180,000 – and one of them could be yours as early as mid-2018.
The new flagship of the XJ lineup, the Jaguar XJR 575, has essentially the same V8 under the hood, only tuned for 575bhp. Its maximum speed is 300 km / h, and the dynamics - 4.4 s to hundreds.

Kia has developed a small B-class crossover Stonic. This name is made up of English words‚speedy‘ and ‚tonic‘.
Stonic has soft lines and compact size with a lower center of mass. The characteristic roofline and railings give it a sporty touch. The interior stands out for ergonomics and modern technology. The touch screen of the center console allows you to control your smartphone and numerous vehicle settings.
Kia Picanto X-Line- new version of small car firms. The X-Line has a crossover look inspired by the Sportage and Sorento designs. This Picanto received a clearance increased by 15 mm (up to 156 mm) and eye-catching exterior details, such as black fender flares. A higher seating position gives the driver better visibility.
Under the hood of the novelty, a turbocharged liter engine with a capacity of 100 hp is installed. - the strongest in the family.
The Kia Sorento has been given a facelift with a sporty GT and a new 8-speed automatic for the 2.2-litre diesel. Outwardly, the novelty is given out by new bumpers, LED headlights and a black grille.

Mazda showed its CX-5 with the new top-end Skyactiv-G 194 engine. Its main feature is not its maximum power of 194 hp, which, in general, is not surprising for a 2.5-liter four, but its ability to turn in a TWO-cylinder engine when such a herd is not needed. At a speed of 40 km/h, this reduces consumption by 20%, at 80 km/h - by 5%. Well, in a standard combined cycle, the car costs 7.1 l / 100 km.

Mercedes-Benz has put up a new Rise V-class minivan for 34,990 euros. It comes with a short and long base and can have a cabin for 5 - 8 seats. There are two diesel engines with a capacity of 136 or 163 hp to choose from. The transmission is built on a mechanical six-speed or automatic 7G-Tronic-Plus. Safety is further enhanced by the crosswind compensation assistant.
There will also be a limited edition designo hyazinthrot metallic in a special color scheme, which will be assembled in only 1,500 copies.
Mercedes-AMG celebrated the world premiere of its Project One: the two-seat supersport car brings Formula 1 technology to the ordinary roads. Much is not reported about it, but it is quite enough to keep 1000 hp in mind when examining it. and 350 km/h.
