Therefore, from the first minutes behind the wheel of the new X-Trail, I understand: progress is evident. But first, let me tell you about the interior, which is almost exactly like Qashqai's.

I have nothing against the now fashionable unification: modular chassis and modular motors are wonderful. This approach helps manufacturers, and therefore us, save money. But the "modular" front panel is unbearably boring. I sincerely hope Nissan doesn't go the Subaru route (Impreza, XV, Forester, WRX - all have the same panel with minimal changes) and in other models we will see something original.

The quality of finishing materials is the best among all Japanese cars in the test. Compliant plastic top of the panel, good skin on armchairs, an excellent multimedia system, to which any phone clings via Bluetooth in no time (ay, Subaru!) Multimedia slots, as it should be in a modern car, are located at the bottom of the console. Nissan X-Trail. Decent leather on the seats, softtouch plastic, convenient controls and intelligent multimedia system all-round view. Only the absence of automatic glass closers and the rough leather on the steering wheel are frustrating.

Behind - expanse. Compared with the previous generation car, the wheelbase has grown by 75 mm - up to 2705 mm, and this best indicator in the test. The rear sofa is now adjustable in length: parts divided in a ratio of 2: 1 move relative to each other.

However, all this is trifles. The real surprise awaits along the way. The modified motor-variator connection is unrecognizable. From now on, these two live on the same wavelength. The sound of the engine has become more solid and richer - there is no echo left of the tedious "vacuum cleaner" song of the previous units. Yes, and the dynamics are excellent: the phase control system exhaust valves and an increase in the compression ratio from 9.6 to 10.0 revived the motor.

Noise isolation is good, but rear passengers slightly annoying rumble from the road. And although the newcomer is far from the hysterical screams of Mitsubishi, we unanimously recognized Volkswagen as the quietest. On off road nissan- middle peasant. Modest angle of entry, CVT. We did not succeed in overheating it, but we should not expect a large margin of safety. Nissan crawls on virgin soil sluggishly and reluctantly, and mostly leaves snow traps in reverse. I love tests in which I can’t confidently name a favorite before scoring. The current one is one of them. There was no doubt about the outsider.

Mitsubishi Outlander can be preferred only if the 100-200 thousand rubles separating it from its rivals are of decisive importance. Except large trunk and a spacious rear row, the Outlander has no real trump cards.

Renault Koleos is able to fall in love with a cozy and thoughtful interior. It is comfortable, well equipped and original. However, it is crowded behind, and the age of the car cannot be hidden - it is a pity that these points are not reflected in the price tag.

The Subaru Forester is the quintet's most expensive car. Interesting, versatile, cool rides on the pavement and on the country road. A modest trunk and a lack of interior gloss did not allow him to reach the leaders. I'm not too picky, but the lack of upper air vents for rear passengers in a car worth 1,924,000 rubles is a disaster.

Volkswagen Tiguan surprised on asphalt and off-road. A magnificent crossover with passenger habits and a funky European interior. For all its shortcomings - a cramped second row and small trunk I easily close my eyes.

But if these qualities are important to you, pay attention to the Nissan X‑Trail. It's almost as good on pavement as it's capable off-road. Fast, spacious, well equipped. And God bless him, with the “square” design that has sunk into oblivion. Despite the rejection of chopped forms, Japanese engineers and marketers saw the market situation from the right angle. This car has practically no weaknesses, and therefore quite deservedly snatched the victory.

In my opinion, Nissan engineers overdid it in their desire to protect the oncoming driver from blinding. The cut-off line needs to be corrected. Outlander, Forester and Koleos performed evenly. There are no claims to light distribution. Even the driver of Koleos, who took last place, will not feel the lack of light. In mode high beam unconditionally became the best X‑Trail. I did not like only that the automatic switch from far to near is too sensitive to the oncoming flow. Sometimes it even reacts to the reflection of its own headlights from road signs. As you can see, typical light crossovers, full-fledged frame SUVs and pickups are mixed in one bottle. Therefore, the organizers prepared two tracks at once: a relatively light one for crossovers, and a heavier one for frame SUVs and pickups. The easy track included X-shaped bars (imitation of protrusions-bumps on the road in a checkerboard pattern), a “bench” for driving on one side of the car (the front / rear wheel is alternately hung out on one side), and a snowy-icy “snake”, where could slide freely. BMW X3

It just so happened that I spent the morning of the test day for BMW steering wheel X3 and on interesting serpentines near the Bukovel resort. Sitting in comfortable soft brown leather chairs, clutching the heated M-steering wheel, enjoying the turns (I can’t believe that the crossover can drive like that!) and watching the snow-covered slopes around, you really just start to get lost - am I in Ukraine or in what any Switzerland? Unfortunately, but BMW price X3 is also far from the reality of the Ukrainian middle class: test car- which you like and gives the impression "that's how the BMW X3 should be if you don't save" - ​​costs almost 2 million hryvnias.

But the presented car is estimated at almost UAH 2 million, which is due to the equipment: cool seats, a heated steering wheel, a lot of M-parts, powerful motor(2.0 l and 252 hp); for each such “Wishlist” and an extra “sneeze” in the configurationbmwhave to pay a lot. There is no special off-road mode in the car settings, but the X3 passed the test track without any problems: a minimum of slippage in the snow and a rear-wheel drive character on the “snake”.

Mazda CX-5 and Mazda CX-9

“OK Google”, is there something like the BMW X3, only cheaper – for the rest of the middle class? This segment is targeted Mazda crossover CX-5, which has already been written about twice: and . The event was adorned with a "fire red" Mazda CX-5 with gasoline engine 2.5 l: everything is good and excellent, except for the point noted earlier - for such a chic chassis, and even on mountain serpentines with a lot of climbs, I want “more” motor. There is enough of it on the highway and in the city, but the feeling remains "give more power - and the Mazda CX-5 will become the very BMW X3 for the people."

And after all, Mazda already has a similar engine - the older model CX-9 proved: similar four cylinders and 2.5 liters of volume, plus a bonus in the form of a turbine. Power has increased from 194 hp. up to 231 hp, but most importantly - the torque has increased from 257 Nm to 420 Nm! This motor is enough for a huge 5.1-meter 7-seater crossover, which I will talk about in detail in a separate article in the near future - wait, it will be interesting.






Mazda CX-5 is here for a reason - this is the newly appeared owner of the title "Car of the Year 2018 in Ukraine" among all crossovers! There is a reason: the car is commendably agile on the road, quite comfortable and spacious. WhereinMazda CX-5 in the maximum version is estimated at slightly more than 1 million UAH. and offers an all-inclusive package. Elder sister"Mazda CX-9 is remembered for its size on the outside, spaciousness inside, and also with a powerful turbo engine. Both cars on a special track go the same way: a short spin of the front wheels and the subsequent quick connection of the rear; neutral and understandable behavior on the snake.

Subaru Outback

Among Mazda competitors CX-5 can be called Subaru Outback, and for Mazda CX-9 - Toyota model highlander. What to say about these cars? The Subaru Outback crossover station wagon is called a “station wagon” for a reason: initially (since the mid-1990s) it was an off-road version of the Legacy model; and even though in recent generations the car was singled out as a separate model, the essence of the station wagon remained. For example, Subaru Outback is lower in size Mazda models CX-5 and Honda CR-V, but offers the most ground clearance of the three due to the very "raised" body fit. The suspension is commendably energy-intensive and, it seems, simply “impenetrable” - this is with Subaru model Outback can only be compared with frame crossovers. It seems that everything is here to become a "Ukrainian's dream": an ideologically correct crossover, which, at first glance, does not have weaknesses. On the second one too. Adequate habits on the track (although I note that I didn’t drive it much), good comfort, passing obstacles without problems, understandable behavior on the “snake”. Yes, and the technique is interesting: D-4S combined fuel injection (distributed and direct), phase change system valve timing VVT-i, as many as eight steps in the automatic transmission ...





crossoverToyota Highlander- large, roomy, powerful. There is a “center” lock, help when descending a mountain, an automatic transmission sport mode. The track passes without problems, the suspension is energy-intensive. In a word, everything is fine. In addition, that in the entire company of cars it is preciselyToyota Highlander, perhaps, causes the least emotions, questions, reflections. Maybe I "rolled in" a little? Or maybe someone will decide that driving without emotions is good? Maybe so…

Renault Kadjar

Honestly - even leaves behind a more noticeable mark in memory. Moreover, the Renault Kadjar was front-wheel drive, on the “robot” EDC, with a 110-horsepower 1.5-liter turbodiesel. The weakest car in the company. Along the way - and one of the most affordable: 770 thousand UAH. But it's far from the worst! Moderately comfortable on the road, with pleasant salon, amazing efficiency (on the highway it consumed 5-6 liters versus 8-10 liters for other compact crossovers). It is clear that with front-wheel drive, the Renault Kadjar simply had no chance even on the track for light SUVs; the organizers initially did not even want to let him go beyond the snowy "snake". But then - everything went: with hanging wheels, slipping, flying snow flakes! To the credit of Renault Kadjar, he drove the track in the hands of each of the test participants. Moreover, from what I saw, Renault Kadjar desperately slipped, but never demanded to be pushed out of the snow captivity.




Small, soft, EuropeanRenault Kadjarwith turbodiesel and "robot"EDC- this is about the "ECO" button and multi-colored devices, and not about hanging the wheels and sliding on the "snake". Off-road all I can do is manually select suitable gear. But to my creditRenault Kadjar, the car managed - which, in the conditions of its front-wheel drive version, is comparable to a small feat.

ford ranger

The complete opposite is large frame models: Ford Ranger, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, Toyota Land Cruiser Prado. Their own track was prepared for them: a steep descent; slippery slopes (snow and ice); pits and mounds in a checkerboard pattern, where the car rides on two wheels; a couple of additional obstacles. The first model in my list of frame cars was the Ford Ranger pickup truck. There were no questions on the off-road track: it goes down without problems, goes up, hangs out the wheels. The question was only in dimensions, since the Ford Ranger pickup truck with a length of 5.36 m is a good half a meter larger than the already rather big Mitsubishi Pajero Sport and Toyota Land Cruiser Prado. Okay with the size, you can get used to it; but what to do with the behavior on a good road? Pickup Ford Ranger feels very heavy: weak acceleration, leisurely turns, simple trim. Of course, the suspension is impenetrable on any bumps, but other pickups go through the pits just as well.




PickupFord Rangeris a cool exterior design and unusual solutions in the cabin: for example, a dashboard with a round speedometer and two LCD displays on the right / left. Drive system - with three modes of operation (2H, 4 H, 4 L, i.e. lower row); there is a locking rear “diff” and a hill descent assist system. Off-road - the king-king, but on ordinary roads Ford Rangerit seems too “cargo”: there are pickups that cost only a little more, but they drive noticeably better; there are pickups that are also "cargo" in habits, but their price is much less. Mitsubishi Pajero Sport

Next a full-fledged SUV was - and with only a slightly higher price than the previous pickup truck (both cars 1.1-1.2 million UAH), this car gave completely different impressions. Firstly, he already rides well on a regular road: he turns, accelerates, does not shake. Secondly, in his salon at least the appearance of what more than 1 million hryvnias was paid for is created. Thirdly, a route for off road mitsubishi Pajero Sport passed not so easily, but in general openly playing a giveaway. Example: at some point the car hung on two wheels and stood up; what to do - rear diff lock? No, I just stepped on the gas harder. Downhill assist? Yes, she is; but why, if the car crawls down / up very slowly on the “lowering”. Climbing a steep slope? Yes, no problem at all! “Aaah, what, hung out the wheels? No, with long suspension travel, I have not heard of this. The Mitsubishi Pajero Sport model has a lot of interesting off-road systems, but in the case of an all-wheel drive with a center lock, a lowered row, huge toothy wheels, they all serve as an “addition”, and not “determining factors” for cross-country ability, as in the case of light crossovers.

Toyota Land Cruiser Prado

It must be admitted that the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado looks even more epochal, in terms of the degree of “steepness” Prado is only half a step below the LC200. And it looks like it is driving on the road: measuredly, slowly, with dignity. The interior space is similar to a small apartment; taking into account the finishes, it becomes clear that this is a trendy studio apartment in the city center. And there are many, many systems for roads: air springs on rear axle to adjust the fit of the body (useful for heavy loads); buttons behind the automatic transmission lever for complex vehicle settings (comfort, eco, normal, sport, etc.); smooth and soft 6-speed "automatic". According to the plans of the organizers, after the main program, an optional course was provided - a race along a mountain pass: not a special track, but there were enough snow-covered ascents and descents. Again, according to the organizers' plans, only three frame cars, described above, were supposed to go to the pass. But there were a lot of people who wanted to, so a couple of crossovers also went. It is interesting that he just didn’t go where the Subaru Outback could best show itself - the problem is in the long overhangs that could interfere in the bends-pits (and there really were such places).

Honda CR-V

But suddenly a couple of other crossovers drove to the pass, one of which is a Honda CR-V. It would seem that it’s just an urban crossover, where such items as a touch screen, interior space, adjustment rear seats, LED headlights mean a lot more off-road capability. So, in the morning on the track for crossovers, the Honda CR-V model skidded a lot with the front wheels, waiting for the “back” to be connected; and there is no separate mode (button) for blocking the central clutch. All I could do was put the automatic transmission lever in sport mode so that the CVT was in no hurry to change gear ratio(“upshift”) and did not fail the engine speed. But in the end, how many times did we push the Honda CR-V out on the pass? Zero! We drive carefully, we don’t slow down the speed, we try not to “dig in”, there is enough geometry with beveled bumpers - that’s the result.

It also has an unusual interior trim, an interesting LCD driver's display in the front, adjustable backrest and heated seats in the rear, a proprietary blind-spot visibility system on the right, plus the mentioned LED headlights - all this gives the impression of a very modern model. At the same time, under the hood there is a traditional “aspirated” (2.4 l and 186 hp) paired withCVT-variator. Deserves an analysis in a separate article ...

Suzuki Vitara S and Suzuki SX4

The second crossover that passed the pass turned out to be a “baby”. Strongly knocked down, angular, pursed from all sides (except that the “lip” protrudes a little front bumper). But under the hood - a brisk 1.4-liter turbo engine; paired with it - automatic transmission and all-wheel drive ALLGRIP. Along the way, another Suzuki car was presented at the event - an updated SX4 in a similar configuration for the engine and transmission.

In short, Suzuki models are a small revelation that many people do not expect. On the test track for crossovers, they do well: yes, the ground clearance is 18 cm, but the overhangs are short; the AWD system has a LOCK mode to lock the clutch center differential. On ordinary roads, they drive briskly and incendiary: there is quite a lot of power (140 hp and 220 nm) for such light cars (1.26 tons). Of course, a simple interior and the absence of any unique equipment ... But this is understandable for the price (UAH 650-700 thousand), and in its own “ automotive essence» On the track and off-road cars work out the money paid in full.










CarsSuzuki Vitara SAndSuzuki SX4 are identical in technology: engine, automatic transmission, all-wheel drive.
