Mitsubishi Outlander GT test drive: what the coolest of the Outlanders is capable of. Start of sales of a new version of the model Mitsubishi - Outlander GT In good company

Which of the car manufacturers today does not only perform with its products in the Gran Turismo class! Even if it doesn't match at all. Fashion, evolution, degradation - call it what you want, but marketing does its job. The magical abbreviation GT is actively used today to decorate the body of a car and a reason to rip off extra money from the buyer for it. Why not, if they are paid.

The popular Japanese crossover was no exception. True, the stylish nameplate on its stern means not only designer improvement, but also - drum roll! - constructive. And this, admittedly, is a rarity these days, because sometimes cars, even having survived a generation, technically remain the same as before. Well, almost the same.

So the guys from the Land of the Rising Sun can be proud of not only anime and the best instant noodles in the world.

Contrasting bumpers, a shark fin antenna on the roof, a bunch of sensors and cameras, as well as a menacing GT emblem indicating that the Outlander belongs to a special edition - that's all for you. Outside.

What's new inside? The first thing that catches your eye is the steering wheel. Now it heats up and flaunts the keys responsible for adaptive cruise control along with a monitoring system. When the ignition is on, the updated multimedia comes to life: the colors are juicy, the touchscreen is intelligible, it understands the language of smartphones.

Change the already pleasant finish of high quality leather with perforations and wood inserts and Japanese piano lacquer. But the “sweets” in the form of a system that controls objects in the “dead” zones, the functions of tracking the location of the car within the markings and the heated windshield were added.

A bottomless spectacle case has appeared - all family members, without exception, can store their eyepieces here. The main thing is that when you open this box, you do not accidentally activate the SOS button located next door, which seems to even help the inhabitants of the cabin no worse than the icons glued to the dashboard.

But the main differences between the GT and the usual one are the engine and the special all-wheel drive system. In general, the Japanese take money not for beautiful eyes and a couple of fresh buns.

Under the hood of the crossover lives a 3-liter V-shaped "six", issuing 227 forces, and with such a roar that caresses the ear that you want to constantly press the accelerator.

Yes, the formidable V6 boom raises not only what is below the belt in men, but also self-esteem in women. People around look at such an “Outlander” in the stream no less than at its driver or driver.

No wonder, because the crossover jet starts from a place and arrogantly overtakes at high speeds. Last but not least, thanks to the correct gasket between the steering wheel and the seat, as well as the well-coordinated operation of the motor with the traditional hydromechanical “automatic”, obediently and quickly clicking six gears.

It is gratifying that the Outlander GT confidently and proudly shoots not only on coatings of varying degrees of disgust, but also where coatings have never been heard of. And all because the crossover is armed (Super All-Wheel Control), which makes it related to the legendary Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution. Yes, that's right, although not without adjustments.

The clutch on the rear axle is supplemented with a front cross-axle differential lock. And all this is managed by electronics, which works in conjunction with the stabilization system and the function of braking the wheels passing in the turn along the inner radius.

Such a rich arsenal allows you to pedal on the "off-road", as if frightened. More precisely, like a good replica of a real rally car. What are the barriers, what are you talking about?

Palms on the steering wheel, fingers on the steering wheel paddles, slipper on the floor, eyes on the point! For the most mad - just in case of a fire - the Japanese stuck a frontal collision avoidance system into the car. Her work does not bother at all - maybe it will come in handy.

And now - attention! - question. Are you ready to shell out 2,320,000 rubles, which are getting cheaper again, for all this wealth? That's one million more than the regular one! It seems that only the most devoted fans of this model will give preference to GT. The rest will certainly go to get acquainted with the price lists of premium brands. Which, however, does not take away from the Japanese the right to be proud of a truly cool car in their lineup.

"K Olesa" a little over a year ago already introduced you to the "three-liter", but then it was called Sport. Then, for a while, Mitsubishi's most powerful crossover disappeared from dealerships and price lists. It turned out to be back under the name Outlander GT. What has changed?

At first glance - nothing. The same body, more reminiscent of an all-terrain wagon than a classic SUV, the same Dinamic Shield-style front with powerful chrome-plated “mandibles”, as if compressing the black lining of the lower part of the radiator grille, massive chrome-plated crossbars in its upper part and sparkling “three diamonds ". The same sharp horizontal stamping that runs all the way from the headlights to the taillights, and the same chrome moldings at the bottom of the doors, the same V6 nameplates on the fenders ... To detect changes, you need to look closely, strain your memory or get into the photo archive .

So, the first innovation: a “shark fin” of the GPS antenna appeared on the roof. The GT nameplate on the fifth door - well, that goes without saying ... But these black rounds on the black crossbars of the "plastic" part of the lining were definitely not there. Oh yes, those are active cruise control sensors! Actually, they are also responsible for the operation of the FCM system (mitigation of the consequences of passing collisions). There were also no video camera lenses on the lower surface of the side mirrors. All? Perhaps all...

... And a case instead of a hatch

Inside, there are not too many differences either, at least the overall interior architecture has not undergone any changes. The same “light top, dark bottom”, the same soft plastic front panel, the same stitched leather visor over the instrument cluster, the same high-quality perforated leather for the seats and top). The same abundance of black piano lacquer and neat plastic inserts under dark wood remained.

The hatch disappeared, but a case for glasses appeared as compensation (moreover, it was ready to accept even fairly large telescopes in which the turtle sang a song with the lion cub in the voice of Oleg Anofriev), as well as the inevitable “panic button” of the ERA-GLONASS system. But the buttons on the spokes of the steering wheel have clearly increased (new functions and systems need to be controlled, including active cruise control and a video review system), as well as the number of keys on the panel has increased. There were keys that included steering wheel heating, blind spot monitoring, windshield heating and a lane departure control system ... And, of course, a touch-screen media system. It now looks completely different, because instead of mechanical keys and rotary knobs, there are now only touch buttons.

What if Google isn't ok?

The system has the ability to integrate with a smartphone via Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, but for some reason, a navigation application that can work without a network connection was not installed on it. Of course, I immediately downloaded Android Auto to my Chinese and tried to work through it.

To do this, you need, firstly, to "register" the smartphone via bluetooth, and secondly, connect it via USB. The only inconvenience in this whole story turned out to be that a rather long USB cable was required: the corresponding sockets are hidden in the armrest box, and it is still better to mount the phone somewhere on the front panel. When the Android Auto package launches, all functions can be controlled through the car's touchscreen display, but some manipulation of the phone will still be required at the beginning.

To my disappointment, it turned out that Android Auto “integrates” the car with far from all the applications installed on your smartphone, so my hopes of seeing Yandex Navigator on the monitor or raster maps in the Ozi Explorer program were dispelled like morning fog over the Moscow River. Navigation - only with Google Maps, music - only through Google Play Music, but messenger messages, SMS and emails do pop up in separate windows on the screen.

So if you go to places where there is no cellular coverage on the Outlander GT, you still have to turn on your smartphone or tablet in navigator mode. In this regard, the approach implemented by the Chery brand seems to me more promising (although the system itself is also not without flaws).

Sit up, friend!

In general, judging by the number of plugs, the range of saturation of the Outlander with electronic driver assistants has not yet been exhausted. The button responsible for changing pages on the dashboard information display is still hidden from the driver behind the steering column switch, and only the driver's seat is still equipped with electric drives.

By the way, I don’t understand the complaints of some journalists about the ergonomics of the Outlander, in particular, about the driver’s seat being too high. So, on the car that I got for the test, apparently, a person who was tightly accustomed to a “passenger” landing drove me, and for a long time I could not understand: why was it so uncomfortable for me, it seemed to set the correct distance to the steering wheel ... But for now I didn't raise the seat cushion to the proper height, my hands were still in the "stretch palms to the sun" position. Raised the seat all the way - everything fell into place, while forward visibility improved, and the head didn’t stick into the ceiling (with a height of 182 cm), and it became possible to put the left elbow on the “windowsill”, and the right one - to rest on the lid of the voluminous armrest box.

And I'm still happy with the space on the second row of seats, and the ability to adjust the angle of the backrest. However, I have certain complaints about the "gallery". It's just that today the word "comfort" means not only leather upholstery and sufficient legroom. Passengers of the second row are deprived not only of the opportunity to regulate their microclimate, but also of any devices for connecting and charging mobile devices. Agree, in our time it is important, but it costs mere pennies. And it is precisely such trifles that determine the fact that a fairly large, not the cheapest, solid-looking and generally well-equipped car, moreover, the only one of its classmates flaunting six cylinders instead of four, cannot claim a place in the premium category, remaining , at best, a "premium substitute".

Where is Sport?

Well, just adjust the mirrors a little, the selector in Drive - can you go sailing? The Outlander GT rolls solidly and with dignity along the city streets, without provoking the driver to all sorts of pranks, but also without interfering with energetic maneuvers and rearrangements. At the same time, which is nice, the engine and gearbox are in a state of absolute harmony, and a solid supply of power is always felt under the pedal. I have only one complaint about the box: the lack of a Sport mode. There is a “super plush” “vegetable” Eco mode, there is a standard Normal mode, the selector has an L position (limiting shifting to higher gears), but there is no sports mode that provides switching at 5-6 thousand revolutions.

Two more modes, Snow and Lock, are no longer so much about the box, but about the all-wheel drive system and the transmission as a whole. So if you want one hundred percent, to the last cube of the available three liters, to use all the possibilities of the V-shaped six, switch manually using the petals located on the steering column. By the way, you will really like the latter if you somehow get off the asphalt and find yourself in a situation where you need all the off-road potential of the crossover. That's when the fact that the petals do not change their position when turning the steering wheel will allow you to change gears with much more confidence at the same time as energetic maneuvering and shifting the wheels “from lock to lock”.

4WD animation

As for the work of the cunning S-AWC all-wheel drive system, despite the fact that one of the pages of the information display is a visual animation of the current state of this system, it is very difficult to see its operation in the city. For example, you can press the gas pedal heartily, throwing the car into a jerk from a stop on a well-rained Moscow asphalt, and a scattering of transverse sticks in the central rectangle of the S-AWC diagram will illustrate both the intensity of power transfer to the rear axle and the return of traction exclusively to the front wheels as you pick up speed.

But in order to observe how the electronically controlled active front differential works and how the system distributes braking forces on the wheels in the turn, you need to do something completely absurd in the city. For example, fly into the exit from the main road to the understudy at a speed of under eighty or refuel the car into a side passage at sixty.

No, all this luxury is not for the city, especially since there is no time to watch cartoons on the display during such maneuvers on the verge of a foul. It is exactly for the “big trip”, where you can meet winding forest paths, mountain serpentines, primers, and gravel graders on your route ... And it is in these conditions that the Outlander GT realizes all its capabilities. To be honest, with such excitement I “beat” on primers, fitting into their sharp bends, only on Subaru crossovers.

main purpose

Curb weight

No, in the city the Outlander GT is quite good and pleasant. True, the declared consumption of 8.9 liters per hundred with a combined cycle and about 12.2 liters in the city is definitely not true. The figure 20.4 fixed by the camera lens is also not worth paying attention to (it reflects long-term idling during shooting), but I also couldn’t get less than 15 liters.

But if you look closely, then the optimal purpose of the Outlander GT is precisely the big trips with the family. Let's start with the trunk, which not only has a quite decent (though not champion) volume of 477 liters, but which has a glove box with two compartments hidden under the raised floor, where it will be so convenient to put all sorts of little things that are always lost in the trunk. Plus, by folding the backs of the rear sofa, you can organize a fully-fledged sleeping place in the car.

It is on a long trip that all the advantages of active cruise control will appear. As a matter of fact, it can be used in the city, but in conditions of heavy traffic it is still not very convenient. Even if you set the distance to the car in front to a minimum, you still have a fair window in front of you, into which everyone who is not lazy will climb, and the automation will react to this with sharp braking. Again, the “electronic driver” will not accelerate at all the way you are used to: at first it will be too sluggish, and only then, when your matelot has gone far enough, it will be very intensive. At traffic lights, the active cruise works to a complete stop, but then, after a few seconds, it simply turns off, and the car (already without radar distance control) begins to crawl towards the bumper of the car in front. In general, if you want it or not, you have to put your foot on the brake.

But on the highway, the active cruise works quite adequately, allowing you to drive a much longer distance without signs of fatigue. The lane departure control system will not hurt either, especially on highways with normal markings. The blind spot monitoring system is more for the city, although I can easily imagine a situation in which it will prevent an accident with your participation on the highway. For example, you are about to overtake a truck, and at this time a Schumacher decided to double overtake and has already entered the blind zone...

Fuel tank volume

In the city, the forward collision warning system turns out to be much more useful, lighting up a bright orange “Slow down!” warning in front of you. in cases where you start to approach other road users too quickly

Tourist, but not extreme

In principle, overtaking on the highway will not cause you any problems and will not force you to burn nerve cells, which, as you know, are not restored (I already wrote about the power reserve under the pedal). On a long journey, neither the suspension nor the noise will tire you, although in terms of noise isolation, Mitsubishi engineers still have something to work with. So, you generally hear the full rumbling of the six only when you push the gas pedal from the heart, and this is the correct, noble sound (and not the squealing of four cylinders). But now wheel noise begins to penetrate the cabin already starting from sixty kilometers per hour, although, in fairness, it remains within the acceptable range and does not clog the music from the speaker system.

And yet, the main thing is that the Outlander GT will help you overcome any roads with honor, and even get to some places that lie away from the asphalt highways. Naturally, you should not consider it an uncompromising conqueror of abysses and poking into a muddy logging rut, but 215 mm of ground clearance, the ability to tightly block the clutch and move only in lower gears, as well as the absolute equality of all three key indicators of geometric cross-country ability (angles of entry, exit and ramp ) allow you to feel very confident on light off-road. In any case, if you drove through an obstacle without hitting it with the front bumper, then the rear one won’t hook it either, but in the most doubtful cases, you can always press the button on the left spoke of the steering wheel, turn on the camera and see what the car has under the bumper and directly at the starboard side (well, on the left, you yourself can look, sticking your head out the window).

2 / 3

3 / 3

I have already mentioned the excellent behavior of the car on primers and gravel roads. The only remark is that it’s still not worth relaxing and drowning “on the whole piece of iron” on uneven roads, there is too much chance of not having time to slow down in front of some particularly prominent pit or pothole, and then a breakdown of the suspension tuned for comfort becomes simply inevitable .

in good company

In general, I hope you have no doubts that the Outlander GT bears a nameplate with two cheerful letters for a reason and is great for big trips. Actually, the car has only two serious drawbacks: not the smallest expense and the price of 2,289,990 rubles. Such a price tag is already close to the boundaries of the premium segment: for example, Land Rover Discovery Sport (agree, also a good choice for car tourism) is offered at a price of 2,680,000 rubles, and, say, Volvo XC60 - from 2,468,000. alone premium brands. In "its echelon" the Outlander GT also has serious competitors. Yes, none of them can boast of a V6 engine, but otherwise they are quite comparable.

Claimed fuel consumption per 100 km

in a mixed cycle

8.9 liters

First of all, it is worth mentioning the new Mazda CX-5. This crossover with a 192-horsepower engine in the top-end Supreme package and a full range of options will cost 2,193,600, which is almost 100,000 cheaper. Yes, its engine is somewhat weaker, but the G-Vectoring system is ideologically very similar to the S-AWC, there are also electronic driver assistants. There is no active cruise control, but there is a head-up display (which, by the way, would not hurt the Outlander either - I've gotten used to the opportunities it provides lately).

I've already mentioned how fun Subaru's crossovers are on dirt roads with their boxer motors, symmetrical all-wheel drive, ground clearance of 220 mm and off-road X-Mode. In this case, the Forester 2.0XT with a 241 hp engine will act as a competitor. in the only Premium package available for it. It is curious that the corporate code of such a car is GT! Naturally, it is more dynamic (acceleration time to 100 km / h is 7.5 seconds), but it is also significantly more expensive: such a car costs 2,599,900 rubles. Plus, the driver of the “turbo-forester” will have to rely mainly on himself (Subaru is in no hurry to introduce all sorts of “electronic helpers” on their cars), but the Lineartronic CVT, although, without a doubt, is one of the best continuously variable transmissions, by no means always provides a linear response to pressing the gas pedal.

Mitsubishi Outlander GT

Brief specifications:

Dimensions (L x W x H): 4,695 x 1,800 x 1,680 mm Engine: petrol V6 MIVEC 6B31.3.0 l, 227 hp, 291 Nm Transmission: automatic, six-speed Acceleration to 100 km/h: 8, 7 sec Top speed: 205 km/h Drive: full S-AWC

Finally, for 2,284,000 rubles you can get a superbly equipped VW Tiguan (220-horsepower TSI turbo engine, seven-speed DSG gearbox, leather interior, Offroad package, active cruise control, a full set of electronic assistants, including a car parking function and a media system with an App- Connect, which allows you to integrate both iPhone and Android smartphone). Among the pluses, in addition to acceleration to “hundreds” in 6.5 seconds, I would note a very modest appetite for such parameters (8.4 liters per hundred in the combined cycle), a huge trunk with a volume of 615 liters, the presence of an inverter and a 220 V socket, and refined handling, characteristic for all cars on the MQB platform.

I deliberately did not include such bestsellers as the Toyota RAV4, Kia Sportage and Hyundai Tucson, because with all their undoubted and very numerous advantages, they cannot compete with the Outlander GT in terms of either power or handling. But what I have listed is quite enough for our “big tourist” not to feel like a supernova in the void of space. Nevertheless, in just a few days, I felt that I was completely related to this crossover, so I returned it with great regret and a feeling of some envy towards its future owners.

You will like the Mitsubishi Outlander GT if:

  • On vacation with your family, you are used to driving;
  • Your idols are Sebastien Loeb and Colin McRae, your favorite pastime is to hit the grader;
  • When in doubt, you take your smartphone out of your pocket and say “Ok Google!”;
  • You think that “you can’t overtake everyone” and enjoy using active cruise control on trips.

You won't like the Mitsubishi Outlander GT if:

  • Gran Tourismo for you is Ferrari Daytona and Lamborghini Gallardo, at worst - Jaguar XK;
  • You often travel to places where there is no cellular coverage;
  • Your wife is used to using the automatic parking feature;
  • Your children are used to playing something on their tablets on the road.

Owner reviews

Operation: quieter engine sound, compared to pre-styling, but still noisy. The suspension has also become softer, there are no rolls, but there is a feeling that the stern is no, no, but now it will rearrange.

I didn’t expect it, but the landing in the driver’s seat changed, they just added a couple of lines on the pillow, but it became cramped (my height is 185 mm, weight is 105 kg), and the back became uncomfortable.

I was pleased with the feedback on the gas pedal, I pressed it a little and you are already going fast, even the break-in mode is not annoying.

Review of the new Mitsubishi Outlander 3.0 AWD AT 2017

Video review: problems with the variator

Well managed. Elastic and at the same time comfortable suspension. Doesn't roll around corners like American cars, Lexuses and Toyotas, which I had a hard time driving.

Forecasting. It's also about management. The engine, gearbox and suspension are very harmoniously balanced and behave like one organism, which allows you to calculate how the car will behave in a given situation.

Smart. The car itself accelerates and slows down, does not lose sight of the car in front, with the exception of serpentines. On cruise control, it detects the degree of turn and slows down, then picks up again.

Good quality build. The elements of the car fit perfectly, in comparison with the Ford that I drove recently.

Of the minuses, a thin layer of paint on the body, as well as scratchy plastic in the cabin, which many sin on. In addition, at low temperatures, on a cold, uneven road, the steering wheel cover cracks. I think a drop of silicone.

Review about Mitsubishi Outlander 3.0 (236 hp) with automatic and all-wheel drive 2016

I've had the car for 6 months. Good dynamics, good Shumka at maximum speed, consumption pleases: in the city 10-13, highway 8.0 speed 120 km / h (AI-92).

So far all options are working great. The car is very warm, warms up quickly. The design of the crossover, both outside and inside, is beautiful, pleasing to the eye. I live in the private sector, the roads have never been cleaned in winter, the patency is just class.

But here, although there is a windshield heating, and frost forms on the brushes in bad weather.

Viktor Vilkov drives Mitsubishi Outlander 2.4 (167 HP) AT 2015

My impressions of the Mitsubishi Outlander 3: very quiet, almost silent at city speeds, you can speak in a whisper. Moderately soft suspension: 18th wheels on the 55th profile contribute. On the track feels rut, but not critical. The steering wheel is not wadded, but not heavy — it’s the most for parking. The turning radius is small for such dimensions, it is convenient to turn around in the yards.

The ergonomics of both the driver and passengers are excellent, the trunk is large. I especially like the box under the floor - all the small things fit in it and stopped rolling around the trunk. The electric trunk is a nice, but not necessary thing; for the winter, my husband said to turn it off along with the electric folding mirrors so that the motors do not burn.

Julia Moroz, review of Mitsubishi Outlander 2.4 (167 hp) on the machine in 2015

Where can I buy?

So far, of course, everything is still good: the car is soft, spacious interior, huge trunk, stable on the road. While I'm delighted, even despite some shortcomings in the cabin. The headlights are cool, they regulate the light themselves.

But the audio system is terrible. If you turn on half the volume, then the right passenger door is already starting to rattle from the vibration of the speaker. Radio: memory for 12 radio stations is a disgrace. The phone worked on the speakerphone for exactly 2 weeks, and now, as soon as there is an incoming call, everything freezes for me: neither the speakerphone nor the phone works. Have to turn off bluetooth.

The appearance of the front panel, in my opinion, was spoiled: the emergency gang buttons and 2 more warning ones could be hidden somewhere else.

* S-AWC (Super All Wheel Control) is a high-tech permanent all-wheel drive system developed by Mitsubishi Motors. The S-AWC system is now used in the Russian market only on the Outlander GT, adding Active Torque Control (AYC) to the standard all-wheel drive of the Outlander models, which individually controls the brake of each wheel and activates the electric power steering to control the distribution of torque between the right and left wheels, in conjunction with an active front differential (AFD). All these systems together improve the vehicle's ability to follow the selected trajectory as accurately as possible, both in a straight line and when maneuvering in lane changes, providing complete control on slippery surfaces.

LANE DEPARTURE WARNING

LDW - Lane Departure Warning - recognizes the lane your vehicle is in and provides audible and visual warnings when the vehicle attempts to leave that lane without turning on the turn signal.

ACC

ACC - The adaptive cruise control system maintains a set speed while maintaining a predetermined distance between your car and the car in front, automatically slowing your car if the distance to the car in front is reduced by more than the set limits.

FCM

FCM - Forward Collision Mitigation System - determines the likelihood of a passing collision, it gives visual and audible warnings if the likelihood of a collision increases, the system applies the brakes.

The pinnacle of all-wheel drive transmission development for Mitsubishi civilian vehicles, the most powerful and modern gasoline engine in the brand's lineup, advanced active and passive safety features, advanced electronic assistants that surround you with care and help on any road and in any conditions, maximum comfort on a long journey for everyone passengers and cornering pleasure for the driver - that's the Outlander GT

Mitsubishi's civilian passenger cars from the very beginning of their mass production could do much more than was required from a car for the mass consumer. Back in the sixties of the twentieth century, the first mass passenger car in Japan - the Mitsubishi 500 - won the Macau Grand Prix in its class and declared the high quality of Mitsubishi cars in the arena of international motorsport. And so it always went on. Colt, Lancer, Galant, Pajero - all these cars, being conceived as civilians, easily collected a scattering of awards over the years in various automotive competitions. The spirit of sports, the spirit of powerful and fast cars does not sleep even now. What's more, it now lives on with the new technologies that Mitsubishi's vehicles are moving into the future, providing the driver with power, excitement, comfort and safety.

Engine

The most powerful 3.0-liter engine in the lineup with 227 hp. endows the Outlander with truly impressive dynamics and traction, while remaining quite economical.

Transmission
Super All-Wheel Control

The pride of the GT is the unique S-AWC all-wheel drive system, the likes of which are unmatched in the segment. In fact, S-AWC is not a set of components and assemblies, it is the philosophy of intelligent all-wheel drive using thrust vectoring in driving a car. On Mitsubishi vehicles, this philosophy was technically implemented in three different ways, which made it possible to achieve the goals set by the engineers. The legendary Lancer Evo, the high-tech Outlander PHEV, the most powerful and fastest Outlander GT. The technology of individual transmission of torque to each wheel in each of these cars is different, but the goal of the technology remains the same - ideal stability and control for the car on any surface! It is also confirmed by the fact that the Outlander PHEV racing car was built on the basis of the Outlander using plug-in hybrid technology, which was tested for durability in the most difficult rally raids and bahas in Australia, Asia and Europe under the control of the titled factory driver Hiroshi Masuoka, who twice won the Dakar Rally ".

S-AWC scheme

The S-AWC system is based on the all-wheel drive technologies of the legendary Lancer Evolution. The Outlander Sport also implements the concept of steering torque control by controlling the electric power steering (EPS), braking system and the ability of the front active differential (AFD) to regulate the optimal distribution of torque between the wheels of the front axle for improved traction.
With the help of the most precise signal response system, S-AWC allows for error-free cornering, reduces understeer and oversteer, and gives the driver an unrivaled sense of control and vehicle stability.

By using data from engine torque, accelerator pedal depression, each wheel speed and steering angle, S-AWC can quickly determine whether the vehicle is accelerating or decelerating, whether it is moving in a straight line or cornering. This principle allows you to achieve good feedback from the car.

Unlike conventional all-wheel drive systems, the S-AWC system also uses such an indicator as the angular velocity of the car. The system allows you to more accurately keep the car in the trajectory chosen by the driver. To do this, it compares the vehicle's actual direction of travel (determined based on longitudinal and lateral acceleration sensors) with the driver's intended direction (based on steering angle sensors) and corrects for any deviations.

ECO
Economy mode

Under normal driving conditions, single axle drive (2WD) is used, ready to instantly switch to four-wheel drive (4WD) mode at risk of wheel slip

NORMAL
Normal mode

Torque is distributed between all wheels depending on driving conditions

SNOW
Snow

Provides optimal all-wheel traction on slippery surfaces such as snow or ice

When the driver selects the mode best suited to specific road conditions, the S-AWC system adjusts the vehicle accordingly, allowing the driver to take full advantage of the dynamic potential.

This technology has improved the dynamic characteristics of the car in various driving conditions. Especially worth noting is the increased stability and controllability on high-speed straights in crosswinds and when turning on slippery surfaces.
