1. Nightjar

The rapid industrialization of China has caused the extinction of river dolphins, so since 2006 this species has been officially declared extinct. In 2007, one of the residents filmed a large white animal in the river, which was recognized as the last river dolphin.
3 Giant New Zealand Gecko
The only specimen of this lizard was found at the beginning of the 19th century. It was found by chance and named after the expedition leader, herpetologist Alain Delcourt. The new gecko was recognized as the largest in the world. It is kept in the Marseille Museum of Natural History. No detailed records of this animal were found, and scientists had to classify the find by examining a 200-year-old specimen. What was surprising was that the giant gecko was very similar to the mythical lizard, the character of Maori folklore. People believed that meeting with her predicts death.
