If you want your car to look original and stylish, then there is an easy way for this - painting the car in two colors. If everything is done correctly - and the information presented in this article is intended to help this - then your car will always be in sight, favorably differing from its counterparts.

How to paint a car in several colors: process technology

The most difficult thing in two-tone car painting is creating a contrasting transition from one paint to another. In order to achieve it, the surface, on which the second paint should not be, is carefully covered with a film, after which painting work is carried out. The film after work is removed and thrown away.

If two colors need to be painted small parts, then a powder mass is used for these purposes. It is impossible to paint the entire car body with its use in several colors - overflows will be noticeable, which will spoil the whole impression of painting. In order to avoid this, ordinary enamel should be used at the second level. The easiest way to paint in different colors rims: there the details of the transition are simply impossible to consider.

Smooth and hard transition

Exist different variants car painting in two colors. So, two-tone painting does not always consist of hard lines. Smooth transitions of colors similar in color can give an original effect, however, it should be borne in mind that the cost of an error here will be high (you will have to redo all the work), and therefore this process should be entrusted to experienced craftsmen.

Often, two-tone staining is used, in which the enamel boundary passes along the joints of parts (wings, doors, hood, etc.).

Each of these options is attractive in its own way, and to imagine how it will look in practice, look at painting a car in two colors in the photo above and the video at the end of the article - this will allow you to choose the appropriate option.

Lucky Combinations

In practice, the most common color combinations are:

  • blue "electrician";
  • silver;
  • orange;
  • Dark red.

At the same time, we note that the combination of white and black almost never occurs, and brown and lilac colors are sometimes found only in the main transitions. As practice shows, a car painted in one color, but using several tones, or mother-of-pearl paint, makes a strong impression - it always looks fresh and stylish:

If as a result of painting a car you want to give your car a maximum of originality, if it is worth adding a little pigment to the paint. Carefully applied, the pigment layer is able to favorably emphasize the border of the transition, adding attractiveness to the appearance of the car:

Changes in PTS

As far as we know, the car must correspond to the color specified in the Title by 70%, with significant changes, you need to submit an application to the traffic police, to which the registration is linked vehicle.

Have with you:
1. Passport (citizen)
2. PTS
3. Certificate of registration of the vehicle

The fee is 500 rubles.

In the PTS, be sure to check the mark about changing the color of the car.

Transition painting is a technology implemented with partial painting of body elements restored after damage. Local painting by the smooth transition method is a difficult process to implement, which not every service station will undertake, since it is more rational for the painter, in terms of financial gain, to repaint the entire part.
Transition painting is more complicated than usual

This article presents painting. You will learn technological features this process, problems arising during its implementation, materials and equipment necessary for staining. After studying the instructions, you can paint a car with a transition with your own hands, saving money and getting a quality result as a result.

Transition painting basics

Painting a car part during a partial body repair requires a strict selection of the shade used paintwork material according to the original color of the vehicle - not a single self-respecting motorist will allow himself to drive a car painted in discord.

To select the color of the shade specified by the manufacturer of the machine, or use special computer programs, but none of the methods gives a 100% accurate result. The paintwork of the machine during its operation fades under solar radiation and is damaged due to mechanical influences, as a result of which tonal differences are visually noticeable between the old and new paint on the body.

Auto-transition painting gives a smooth color match between the restored coating area and the factory paint, practically invisible to the eye. The technology is used to paint any body elements, in addition to partial renovation using this method, a car is painted in two colors - with a gradient.

On the surface of the body there are two coatings - varnish and paint. You need to paint with a transition each layer separately, while the borders of the transition of varnish and paint are spread - the enamel is applied with a spade of 5-10 centimeters beyond the restored area, and the varnish overlaps the old coating by 20-30 cm. You can also make the transition with varnish by completely updating the old varnish coating on the surface of the entire part, however, this approach leads to a waste of material.

In order to smooth the contours of the transition zone, a transition thinner is used during staining. This material is produced separately for enamel and varnish - you will need to purchase two separate compositions. We recommend using a solvent and paint from the same brand line, since the compositions different companies often incompatible.

The solvent allows you to remove the shade transition between the surface of the body and the restored area. Smoothing occurs due to active chemicals in which the pigments of the applied paint dissolve, which blurs the boundaries of the painted zone.

Painting a car part is done by applying a thin layer of solvent to the transition contour, after which the base material is sprayed on top of it. The drying time of the solvent is not expected - the enamel is applied immediately, until the solvent has evaporated from the treated surface.

How to paint a car at home

Do-it-yourself painting with a transition is carried out in a well-lit room. Light plays here key role- you will need to visually assess the differences between body sections and make the necessary adjustments. If you are working, in addition to the ceiling lamp, use LED lights aimed at the part of the body being processed. Pre-wet clean the room by blowing the floor and walls of the garage with compressed air.

To paint with a transition, you will need the following materials:

  • Enamel of the color identical to the surface of the body (use the factory paint code, it is indicated on the engine compartment plate, or take a gas tank tank with you to the store, according to which you will select the desired shade);
  • Solvent (for acrylic, alkyd or nitro paints - based on the type of enamel used);
  • Degreaser;
  • Sandpaper (grit P1500);
  • masking tape;
  • Sticky wipes;
  • Scotch brite, paste and polishing wipes.

Painting auto parts with a transition requires the sequential application of two compositions - paint (varnish) and a solvent. For spraying, it is rational to use two separate spray guns, so you will save time by depriving yourself of the need to clean the spray bottle after applying each layer.

The following instructions will help you paint the car with a transition:

  1. We seal the body around the treated area with newspapers and masking tape to prevent paint from getting into adjacent areas;
  2. We matte the part and the transition zone on the factory paint (distance 10-15 cm) with P1500 sandpaper, removing the gloss from the old paintwork until a pronounced rough texture is obtained. Due to roughness, adhesion (adhesion) increases metal surface and applied paint;
  3. We remove the dust formed during grouting with a damp cloth, after drying, remove the remaining dust with a sticky cloth;
  4. Degrease the treated surface with white spirit;
  5. Applying the first layer base enamel- fill the spray gun tank with paint and set the supply pressure to 1.3 bar. Holding the nozzle of the spray gun at a distance of 20-25 cm from the body, we obscure the painting area with diagonal movements;
  6. We are waiting for the enamel to dry "to touch" (15-30 minutes, exact time indicated on the packaging of the material) and from a distance of 35-40 cm, spray a thin layer of solvent along the outer contour of the painted area;
  7. We immediately apply a second layer of enamel (the pressure of the spray gun is increased to 1.7 bar), overlapping the painted area and expanding it to adjacent areas. The third layer of enamel is applied at a pressure of 2 bar - first we spray the solvent along the side contours of the part, then we apply the paint, shading it outside the area to be painted.

To make a transition when painting a car, apply each subsequent layer of base enamel at a higher spray pressure, systematically increasing the distance between the spray gun nozzle and the body - this will smooth out the shade on adjacent surfaces.

The opening of the painted part with varnish is performed after the enamel has dried. If the painting of parts takes up more than 2/3 of their area, the varnish coating on the body element is completely renewed. During the transition, the factory varnishing in adjacent areas is cleaned with a matting paste and Scotch-brite.

  1. We mix the varnish with the activator in the proportions specified by the manufacturer;
  2. From a distance of 35-40 cm, we open the painted area with the first layer with a minimum spacing beyond its borders;
  3. After the varnish has dried to the touch, spray the second layer, blending the stain beyond the contours of the repaired area;
  4. Used to apply the third layer liquid composition(varnish 1:1). A stain of varnish is carried out beyond the base layer of paint at a distance of 15-20 centimeters.

Polishing the painted area allows you to remove the transition after painting the car. The surface is polished after the time required for complete drying of the varnish (according to the manufacturer's recommendations).

Initially, the junction of freshly applied and factory varnish is treated with scotch-brite and matting paste with a spade of 3-5 cm in each direction. Next, a polishing paste is applied to the matted area, which is rubbed into the body with a special napkin (or machine) until a persistent shine appears on the surface.

Problems when painting with a transition

It is quite difficult to make the transition when painting a car without experience. Problems occur in the following cases:

  • Incorrect selection of paint - two-tone painting, when the composition used for partial painting and the original shade of the body do not match, cannot be hidden even with full observance of the transition technology. To avoid problems, do not trust the selection of paint by eye - choose the composition by code or using a computer program;
  • The appearance of "bald spots" when matting varnish. To clean the varnish coating, do not use fine-grained sandpaper (P1600, P200, etc.) - it forms shagreen on the surface (irregularities similar to an orange peel), which are not hidden by polishing paste. Apply scotch brite and a special matting composition;
  • Do not start polishing uncured varnish, this is fraught with damage to the coating and the need for its complete renewal. The recommended pause between varnishing and polishing is 2-3 days.
  • To avoid dullness of the painted area and the appearance of smudges during the application of the base enamel, spray the solvent only on the borders of the treated surface, and not on its entire area;

Transition Color Features

Painting cars with metallic compositions requires the use of a binder - a special paint for the transition. Binder is a colorless emulsion, visually similar to varnish, which is the basic component of enamel paints. With local body painting, it acts as a liquid substrate, in which the pigment of the applied composition is buried.

At the border of the old and new paint, the layer of the applied coating is thin, its thickness is not enough to evenly distribute the aluminum particles that give the metallic a reflective effect. Randomly placed particles at the transition points form a dark halo (particularly suffers from this problem). The binder forms a wet layer at the transition boundary, in which aluminum metallic pigments are buried, which allows the particles to evenly settle down on the painted surface.

The binder is applied to the treated area of the body with a spade around the place of partial staining so that all subsequent enamel is located in the zone of the colorless base layer. The binder is sprayed with an airbrush, it is not allowed to dry out - the enamel is applied immediately after the base layer. Painting in two colors, with a smooth gradient of body colors, is always done using a binder.

Modern technologies allow car owners to stand out on the road among the monotony of cars in a variety of ways. These can be high-quality tuning parts, airbrushing, etc. The car painted in two colors also looks spectacular. Such a car will become a bright spot in the gray stream of cars, highlighting the creative personality of its owner.

You can choose any colors for painting the car, so there are no restrictions on the flight of the owner's imagination. Usually, preference is given to either fixed boundaries between two colors, or smooth transitions, that is, spraying one color into another. Most often, car owners paint any individual parts of the body: doors or roof.

If the owner wants to paint medium-sized parts, for example, a bumper, then powder coating is used for this. This method is the simplest and most profitable.

How is a car painted in two colors?

Painting a car in two colors is carried out according to the same technology as the usual painting of the body. The only difference is the use of two different shades. Only a true professional can perform smooth transitions between two tones. It can also slightly darken the edges of the details, which will create an additional effect of volume.

When ordering this service from the BordoAuto company, each client will be consulted in advance on the choice of a particular color. This is due to the fact that various models have unequal body geometry: some shades will favorably highlight the car, while others will only spoil it appearance. Our company guarantees that the customer will know in advance the cost and time of the two-color painting procedure. Neither the price nor the term will be increased as the painting work is completed.

To make the exterior of the car special, an unusual painting using two colors that are combined with each other will help. Now you can perform car restyling not only with professionals, but also on your own. What is needed for this, you can learn from this material. The main thing that a car enthusiast should have is a creative vision of the result before painting in two colors. For people who do not have artistic abilities, all kinds of modeling programs before painting will help to anticipate their steel friend in the future.

Perhaps you should seek the help of a designer so that the result is the best. After all, such work is carried out once and for all the remaining time (or until you get bored).

Many Schumachers, instead of the one color indicated in the documents, make the car body two-tone. This is a profitable technique to save the budget and emphasize individuality. After all, on secondary market, and in the factory version too) are not always tucked up easily good cars in good condition with a whole body, but also made in your favorite color. And by adding a second shade, it is possible to kill all the birds with one stone.

How to combine colors when painting?

You can remember computer applications for children, where the car had to be painted in parts, choosing the right color for each part. Similarly, it is worth approaching the issue when changing the appearance of a real car.

If black can be combined with almost any color, then for pink, yellow, burgundy, you still need to try to choose a pair. But in such cases there is effective way way out: use a second shade from the same color scheme as the main one. The result of this combination will be modesty, seasoned with taste.

For some motorists, instead of the factory gloss on the Zhiguli, it is enough to use chrome, metallic, varnished. These colors are exclusive in themselves, and when combined with another option, they look pompous.

2 colors to work with: border transition selection

Judging by the photo, painting the car in two colors is done differently. You can find models separated by a clear line. Others have a smoother transition. Each method has its own characteristics.

Transfer of clear edges. This color transition option can also be presented in different ways. Alternatively, at the junction of the main and auxiliary shades, you can draw a clear line with the application of chromium. Most often it is used in the place of the curly line of the body: along the level of the front wing, doors, rear wing, or along a wavy curve on newer models.

A smooth transition most often covers the body if it is made out in one color scheme. Where the combination will occur is a matter of fantasy. The main thing is to maintain symmetry so that the body has a view.

Nuances of work

As a basis, it is better to use paints on the powder component. It applies well in an even layer. For the second spray, it is better to use enamel. To transfer non-standard broken or smooth lines to the surface of the body, masking tape or special stencil blanks are used.

Carry out painting in two colors using the same technology as with conventional painting works. The only thing is that first of all, a light color is applied, and only then a dark one.

Sequencing:

It is impossible to carry out the transition according to the retouching technique in private conditions. After all, this requires appropriate equipment, and most importantly - skills. Therefore, before choosing a transition method, you need to decide whether painting will be done on your own or by specialists.

Note on the road

If you paint a car in several colors, you need to remember that when meeting with a traffic police officer, questions will certainly arise regarding the color of the body. In order to get out of such situations without fines and problems, it is worth changing the color during painting by no more than 30% of the body surface.

If this norm is exceeded, then within five days after repainting it is worth legalizing your innovations by issuing an application to change the TCP. The documents will indicate both colors. After that, you can safely drive on the roads without fear of inspections.

Painting a car in two colors: the essence of the technique

As a rule, the technology under consideration involves the use of a color combination consisting of a primary (more saturated) and secondary (muted) tones. As for whether these shades should belong to the same color range, it all depends on the taste of the customer. So, if he strives for maximum extravagance, you can choose a combination of colors that are very different in terms of their “temperament”. And if the owner of the vehicle has a moderate disposition, the use of shades from the same gamut is more suitable.

The process of painting a car in two colors involves:

  • preparatory work (cleaning from dust, dirt, grease, rust, etc.);
  • painting two parts of the surface in two different colors(as a rule, a lighter tone is applied first);
  • if necessary - retouching the border between two colored areas (used if the client needs a smooth, rather than a sharp transition between colors);
  • varnishing in two layers;
  • final polish.

It should also be noted that the painting procedure requires increased accuracy from the performer, as a result of which the use of special protective stencils or tapes is a prerequisite.

Painting a car in two colors: a price that is fully justified by an excellent result
