What to choose Toyota Hilux or L200. Toyota Hilux or Mitsubishi L200: comparison and which car is better

Every motorist who often encounters the transportation of small loads must have thought: “Why not change to a pick-up?” This idea logically arises from farmers or small businesses. Fans of extreme sports also have a small need, because on such a machine you can carry with you anywhere, for example, a racing motorcycle, bicycles, a boat, surfboards, tents, etc. This car seemed to have descended from the screens of American films. It is called a home mini-truck and a symbiosis of a passenger car and an SUV. The pickup truck has recently moved in, so local drivers still have a lot of questions and doubts about it. Let's look at the advantages of this type of car using the example of two Japanese "caravans". L200 or Hilux - choose the best pickup.

Cars from a number of the best pickups - Toyota Hilux and Mitsubishi L200

pick-up roots

Who is a pickup truck and what does it “eat” with? We'll figure out. From the very beginning, it was customary to call pickups cars with an open cargo platform.

Today, such cars are usually modified cars or SUVs with a body divided into two parts. One of them is covered for the transport of passengers. The second - without shelter, most often weighing up to 2.5 tons.

USA legend

The first pick-ups went at the beginning of the 20th century along the streets of the USA and Europe. And to the stream. It was in America that the car gained extraordinary popularity. Watch any movie "made in USA" - at least one of the characters, but it will definitely flash past the viewer in a pickup truck.

In the USSR, cars with a "forked" body were also produced at one time. But they were not in great demand and came out in very small batches.

All will fit!

Now the most popular in Russia are pickups made on the basis of SUVs. For example, or Mitsubishi L200. Interestingly, these cars have a lot in common. However, like all "off-road" pick-ups in principle. The design is uncomplicated. Four doors (and there are also two-door versions), five seats, and behind - a "stationary trailer" one and a half meters.

In such a car, you can transport a large company, and all their belongings. Or another option - stock up without hesitation in a construction hypermarket, and on the way home, grab a team of repairmen. Nobody will be close.

So which is better - L200 or Hilux? Believe me, watching the battle "Hilux vs L200" will be interesting.

Practical car

Let's start with the Toyota mini-truck. Everything here is no frills, modest and only on business. There is no special automation, all adjustments are manual. Of the special “minced meat” in the standard version, perhaps only air conditioning can be distinguished. Such a practical car to the marrow of bones.

I sit high, I look far

In general, the car runs smoothly. She easily overcomes obstacles. True, if in Hilux it is possible to give gas at the same time, then in the case of the Elka, it is better to slow down.

Speedy "but"

Like Toyota, the Mitsubishi pickup truck is not designed to be daring on the road. He is also a quiet lover. Moreover - goes even more slowly, than the competitor. In this criterion, L200 against Hilux has no arguments at all. Sotochka is within her power only after almost 18 seconds. Toyota has this figure - 11.6 seconds.

The car “eats” almost 11 liters in the city and 7.5 liters on the highway.

We continue the duel "Toyota Hilux vs Mitsubishi L200". And here's a fact that pops up: the L200 most often has. On average - 1060 kg.

Mitsubishi L200 test drive:

Standard "set"

The base model L200 is equipped with a 2.5-liter diesel engine, it shows 136 hp. With. This model has 5 automatic transmissions. In total, there are four complete sets of "elki". The price for the L200 starts at 1.5 million rubles.

Long term "project"

Note that not everyone can. As a rule, pickup trucks appear in wealthy families as a second car - a car for recreation.

That is why such a machine is a long-term "project". With its characteristics and gentle operation, the machine will serve its owner for many years.

"Japanese" in the garage

We tried to compare the L200 and Hilux and now we can say for sure: the cars are similar both externally and in terms of technical qualities. Yes, Mitsubishi is a more fashionable model and captivates with the ability to transform into a covered truck. But she's also more expensive. And for the rest...

Both cars cannot boast of high-speed capabilities, but they overcome obstacles along the way in such a way that not a single jeep could ever dream of. ATVs with a "trailer" - this is how these cars can be characterized. If you are looking for such a car, then feel free to bring any of these "Japanese" to your garage.

Stylish workers? Both reputable pickup manufacturers, Toyota and Mitsubishi, relied on style when they updated their bestsellers: Hilux and L200. And which of them is better, A.TUT.BY found out in a comparative test drive.

Let's start, as usual, with prices. In our catalog of new cars in the "Pickups" section, there are more than 4 dozen modifications of cars with this type of body. However, today we are only interested in two models - Mitsubishi L200 and Toyota Hilux.

The new Mitsubishi L200, which went on sale just a couple of months ago, in Belarus costs from 20 thousand dollars (371,857,000 rubles), in the basic version of Invite, with all-wheel drive, manual transmission and the base 154-horsepower version of the 2.4-liter turbodiesel. The equipment of the base L200 is very good, especially in terms of safety: two frontal airbags, ABS + EBD, ASR traction control and even ESP. Components of comfort: a hill-start assist system, an on-board computer, power steering and its height adjustment, and to improve patency, a forced locking of the rear differential is already provided in the basic version. Something is missing? At a minimum, an air conditioner, but it is available only starting with the second Invite + configuration, which costs more than 23 thousand dollars (429,293,000 rubles).

But if you want a truly comfortable and versatile L200, you'll have to splurge on the $25,800 Intence package. And not only because there are no longer two, but 9 airbags, there is climate control, seat heating, height and reach adjustment of the multifunctional steering wheel, heated electric mirrors and full power accessories. Expensive versions of the L200 also differ in transmission: if the base has a part-time all-wheel drive system (like Toyota), which imposes some restrictions on the operation of the car on asphalt and other hard surfaces, then for more expensive modifications, the legendary Super Select is already offered, on which you can ride in both rear and all-wheel drive for as long as you like and on any surface.

The same transmission will be on the most expensive L200 Instyle for 27 thousand dollars (502,793,000 rubles). Only in addition to the best equipment, it is also equipped with a 5-band "automatic", as well as a more powerful version of the 2.4-liter turbodiesel, which develops 181 hp. By the way, both versions of this engine meet Euro-4 standards and do not have a particulate filter!

The L200 has recently been updated, which means that everything is going well at Mitsubishi Motors and it is developing, new technologies are being applied. It seems that they just did a restyling, but driving this car it seems that it has become new. Mitsubishi L200 is a frame SUV, the frame dimensions remain the same as before restyling, only it is made of stronger steel. The cab is made of more durable materials, the suspension remains the same, only the settings have been changed, and the length of the rear springs has increased.

Even before, the L200 was considered a very comfortable pickup truck with an excellent transmission. It uses the Super Select system with a self-locking center differential. This system is on all versions of the L200, except for the base one, which has Easy Select.

The pre-styling version was not so comfortable, and it was not so comfortable to sit behind the wheel. Now, after restyling, a lot has been fixed, now they have installed comfortable seats that can be adjusted in height, and in all trim levels, except for the basic one, you can even adjust the steering wheel to suit every taste. The only thing that has not been thought out is the lumbar support, which cannot be adjusted.

Many car enthusiasts buy a pickup truck instead of a regular SUV because it is cheaper and the off-road ability is quite good, the only thing that prevents the L200 from off-road is the long rear overhang and long wheelbase.

As for Toyota, the interior has also improved, you can now change the reach of the steering wheel, it has become comfortable to sit, as in Mitsubishi, and even the back profile in Toyota is better, and there is also lateral support. All modifications of Toyota Highlax, except for the base one, are equipped with a 7-inch display, a color instrument panel. And on a more expensive version, which costs 2,770,000 rubles, there is also keyless entry and climate control. For example, the most expensive version of the L200 costs 1,940,000 rubles.

The materials themselves are about the same as in the L200, there is a lot of plastic that looks like leather. Everything is pretty stiff, but it looks nice. The instrument panel looks stylish, decorated strictly, in a classic style, now there is no blue background. Between the scales is the on-board computer screen. Above this display is the transmission mode indicator. Now the transmission is switched using a special washer.

As for the interior, Mitsubishi has it more adapted for passengers, even the back is tilted to make it more comfortable. Plenty of space in the back seats. In Toyota, the rear seats are more crowded, but not by much. Even tall people will feel comfortable. Recently, pickups began to be bought as vehicles for outdoor activities, and not as trucks for work.

If you seriously load the Mitsubishi L200, then it will noticeably sit down, but this will not interfere with normal driving. The smoothness of the L200 is just as good whether loaded or empty. Even on speed bumps, the L200 gently jumps, which keeps peace in the cabin. And when you drive on a dirt road, you can not slow down, the suspension is so adapted for driving on such a road that peace is also preserved in the cabin. But on the waves the car shakes.

And when driving through city traffic jams, passengers can get sick, because the car constantly accelerates, then slows down and sways from this. But soundproofing has now become much better. It has become as good as on the Volkswagen Amarok, and as you know, this is one of the quietest pickups in Russia. When the L200 is driving along the highway at high speed, you can hardly hear the tires in the cabin. Despite the fact that serious Goodyear Wrangler AT / R tires are installed. Already after a speed of 110 km / h, aerodynamic noise may appear in the area of \u200b\u200bthe exterior mirrors, but this does not spoil the feeling of driving this car.

By the way, under the steering wheel there is a button that can turn off the stabilization system. Usually this should be done when the car is driving through serious mud, when a crack from the mud appeared in the brakes so that the pads do not wear out, you can turn off the stabilization system. When the car is driving on a hard dirt road, it behaves more confidently with electronic support than with interlocks.

A new 4N15 diesel engine has appeared, made of aluminum, its volume is 2.4 liters, and its power is 181 hp. With. It is not yet known how good this engine is in terms of durability. Previously, there was 4D56, it had its own nuances, it can be easily chipped, and it has a good working life. But the main sore point in the old motor is the balance shaft drive belt. Therefore, in the new engine, instead of this belt, there is a chain. But there is nowhere to escape from the creak of springs and knocks in the steering.

The technical characteristics of the new motor indicate that at low revs this motor does not have enough traction, its torque is 430 Nm at 2500 rpm. The automatic transmission in this car with 5 gears, and when driving, traction will not be lost. The car accelerates steadily, starting from low speed, quickly and easily spins up to 4000 rpm.

The dynamics of the L200 is quite good, if the car is empty, then a hundred km. per hour, the car will pick up in about 11 seconds. As for the maximum speed, here it can reach 178 km / h. The gearbox itself does not hide any additional modes, except for Manual. But when you want to smoothly accelerate, the box is immediately felt - the gears shift hard, especially during the transition from 1st to 2nd and to 3rd.

The Toyota Hilux also now has a new 2.8-liter turbodiesel with 177 horsepower. With. But a 6-speed automatic works here. The same all-wheel drive system remained, its front wheels are connected quite rigidly. On slippery roads, you can drive in 4H mode. Ride-wise, the Hilux is pleased with the smoother gearshifts.

The interior of the Hilux is more beautiful, but it is positioned as more of a truck. He has a shorter steering gear - 3.2 turns, and on Mitsubishi - 3.6 turns. But Toyota's understeer is worse than Mitsubishi's. When you go in an arc, then on the L200 you need to load the steering wheel with a moderate effort, and if you release the gas, the car pulls into the arc. Toyota Hilux has other sensations, less interesting, and the information content of the steering wheel is weaker. As for the brakes, they are similar, but when I had to brake hard, the Toyota's stopping distance turned out to be longer.

When the Hilux is unloaded, it rides more rigidly, every bump in the road is felt.
But Toyota's body is the largest among pickups in this class, Toyota's body length is 156 cm, which is 14 cm more than that of Mitsubishi. In width, the Hylax body is 5 cm larger in the narrowest places.

It's just that Mitsubishi has an optional plastic liner that eats a few centimeters from the width of the body. As for the equipment, in both cars the bodies are equipped in the same way: only 4 loops each, to which you can attach the load. The tailgate is quite heavy on both machines, and there are no torsion bars to help lift it. The maximum load on board that can withstand L200 is 200 kg. Toyota also has about the same limit.

The carrying capacity of these pickups is not very large, for example, 755 kg. can be loaded into Toyota, and 955 kg can be loaded into Mitsubishi. By the way, these pickups in the registration certificate and customs documents belong to the category of "airborne cargo" vehicle. And trucks that can carry more than 1 ton cannot enter the 3rd transport ring of Moscow, a fine of 5,000 rubles is provided for such a violation. Also in Moscow there is another feature - a cargo frame on the roads. If the mass of the car is more than 2.5 tons, then you can drive such a car only on specially designated streets.

If you brake at a speed of 80 km / h, and at the same time bypass the obstacle, then the loaded pickups were quite straightforward and reluctant to enter the turn, even the tires cracked a little. And if you drive in an arc with a radius of 35 meters, then at a speed of about 60 km / h, Mitsubishi almost turned over, and Highlax also became on 2 wheels. At the same time, all modern security systems worked. And if a pickup truck is seriously loaded, then it is even more prone to tipping over, so you should not rely on security systems, and in some dangerous situations it is better to slow down.

But these cars can be great to drive off-road, they have a low gear, and all-wheel drive, there is a rear differential lock. But if you activate the rear differential lock, then all the driving electronics will turn off, including the ABS. It is also possible to release the rear differential if you turn on the electronic imitation wheel locks.

Even Mitsubishi's bottom protection is presented as a metal protection, which is considered an additional option. This metal plate covers the entire bottom from the bumper to the tail of the transfer case. And the regular one closes only the engine compartment sump, just like on Hylax.

Even if you do not order this option, the L200 is still better prepared for off-road driving, all transmission elements are better hidden between the frame spars, even the gas tank is placed higher. The transfer case is also hidden in Hylax, but not so carefully. Ground clearance is 210mm for Mitsubishi and 222mm for Toyota, but the lowest point is at the front, so if the front of the car passes, then the rest of the car will pass too.

But there is no significant difference in off-road performance between these cars. As an additional option, there is a descent assist that is available for Toyota. But thanks to the low gear, the need for this option is small. The body shape of these cars is approximately the same, so these cars behave equally well on the roads.

Toyota boasts a high ground clearance and departure angle, while Mitsubishi has a larger approach angle and it has all the vulnerable elements of the bottom hidden above, and, as already mentioned above, the fuel tank is well protected.

But on cars in the basic configuration, you should not drive hard off-road, because they do not have rear towing eyes. You can do off-road tuning, for example, on Mitsubishi you can put wheels with an outer diameter of 33 inches, because this car has larger wheel arches.
It's not so easy to put big wheels on Toyota, you need to do a body lift, then you can even put 35-inch wheels.

In general, the Mitsubishi L200 has more advantages, especially excellent ride and better sound insulation. Rear suspension Toyota should be softer. Mitsubishi also has more rear seat space. The advantages of Toyota are a more spacious cargo platform with high sides, as well as better equipment for Toyota. Toyota is also considered a more reliable car, these cars are bought by corporate clients. But Toyota's interior is not as comfortable as Mitsubishi's.

- Yaroslav, maybe take it easy?
In fact, 58 km / h for the “Turn” maneuver is quite a bit: the “passing” speed even for frame SUVs is about 65 km / h. But we have almost a full load: in the back of the updated Mitsubishi L200 pickup truck, there are 600 kilograms of ballast, and another one and a half hundred kilograms - this is us in the cabin. A sharp turn of the steering wheel - the horizon is littered! Rather roll! A second - and Mitsubishi falls heavily. Fortunately, on wheels, otherwise the new Toyota Hilux pickup could be left without a rival. However, the Hilux itself pleased our photographer with a ride on two wheels.
But which of the two trucks is better when all four wheels are on the road and four more wheels, this time of an ATV, rest on the floor of the body?

Update L200 is an indicator of the financial condition of Mitsubishi Motors and its engineering potential. The second one is clearly better. After all, the amount of improvements is for restyling, and the sensations are like from a completely new car. Although the frame has retained its previous dimensions, but now from stronger steel, the cabin has familiar lines, but again an increased proportion of durable materials, changes in the suspension mainly affected only the settings, except that the rear springs became longer. After all, the former L200 was known as one of the most comfortable pickups (AP No. 3, 2008), and its transmission is the most perfect at all. I'm talking about the Super Select system with an asymmetric self-locking center differential, which is installed on all versions of the pickup truck, except for the initial Invite: it is equipped with an Easy Select transmission with a hard-wired front end.

However, before I could not properly get behind the wheel. You sit low, your legs are extended, but the steering wheel still lies on your knees, and the chair is a ticket to a sanatorium for people with problems of the musculoskeletal system. Now it's different. In all versions, there is a quite comfortable seat with height adjustment, and if your L200 is not in the basic configuration, then you can also adjust the steering wheel. As a result, after a whole day behind the wheel, I grumble softly only at an unregulated and not very convincing lumbar support.

For many, a pickup truck is a more affordable alternative to a conventional SUV. The only factor holding the L200 off pavement is the long wheelbase and rear overhang.

Hanging the wheels is not an obstacle for both pickups, but the rebound rear suspension travel is slightly longer for Toyota: 170 mm versus 155 for Mitsubishi

0 / 0

In a similar way, landing has evolved in Toyota. It was low and without the ability to change the reach of the steering wheel, but it became exactly like in Mitsubishi, except that we liked the back profile of the L200 a little more and the lateral support is now more noticeable.

But you look how Hilux got prettier inside! I opened a large door - and thought that I had the wrong address. It's definitely not a Land Cruiser? In all versions, except for the initial Standard, Hilux trumps a seven-inch “tablet” sticking out in the Mercedes style and a color screen on the instrument panel, and the expensive (2 million 77 thousand rubles against 1 million 940 thousand for the top L200) Prestige version also has climate- control and wireless access. In some places, plastic even tries to pass itself off as leather: they even let a line along the front panel. But if you take a closer look, feel it - no, not a Land Cruiser. Around everything is tough - and the materials here are no better than in Mitsubishi, which does not shy away from its thriftiness. But nicely presented!

This article is an overview and provides a comparison of two pickup trucks intended for sale in the markets of many countries. The topic of pickups will also provoke the Russian consumer, since there are quite amusing options for such vehicles on the domestic market.

Mitsubishi L200 and Toyota Hilux will take part in this comparison. Why did you choose these two models, which have different dimensions and cost? The reason is that both variants of cars are very popular not only in world markets but also in Russia.

The overall length of the Mitsubishi is 515505285 mm, width - 1815 mm, height 1780 mm with a wheelbase of 3000 mm. The ground clearance is 200 mm, thanks to the frame structure, the car confidently keeps on rough terrain. The luggage compartment pleasantly pleases (1520X1470X475 mm). A fairly wide wheelbase played a significant role in cross-country ability.

Toyota has a similar situation, but the difference lies in the all-wheel drive. If the L200 is confident on asphalt due to the smart 4-wheel drive system, then for Hilux it is recommended to use only rear-wheel drive. The Toyota Hilux body has the following dimensions: 5330X1855X1815 mm with a wheelbase of 3085 mm. The ground clearance here is greater than that of the competitor - 227 mm. Here, the brainchild of Toyota clearly wins.

Power units and transmissions

On the L200, the manufacturer provided two engines and two gearboxes. It is difficult to call the choice extensive, since all motors have long been known to consumers:

Inline turbocharged diesel four - 2.4 liters. In this model, the Common rail system is implemented, the advantage of which is the retention of a constant pressure to the fuel rail. Thus, the operation of the engine at low speeds and idling is stabilized. The motor has 154 l / s potential and produces 380 Nm of torque. Fuel consumption per hundred in a combined cycle is 6.4 liters.
Inline turbocharged diesel four - 2.4 liters. This version is more powerful because the high pressure of the turbine makes it possible to obtain additional power. Fuel burns more efficiently, while the engine delivers 180 hp and 430 Nm of torque. Diesel consumption is 7.4 liters per hundred in the combined cycle. As a transmission, classic mechanics and automatic are used.

Toyota has taken care of reliable internal combustion engines for its products, offering the following options:

Base diesel V-6 with a working volume of 2.3 liters. This variant has 150 l/s. The motor from the proposed variations is distinguished by a high level of reliability and a unique fuel consumption system. Despite its volume, the engine consumes 7.3 liters in the combined cycle. For a car with such an engine, only a six-speed mechanics is provided.
Powerful performance of the 2.7-liter engine. It has 177 l / s. According to the manufacturer, fuel consumption in the combined cycle is 8.5 liters, and automatic transmission acts as a transmission.

Appearance and interior decoration

Despite the fact that both brands are Japanese, each of them considers the design of the offspring from its own angle. So. The latest generation L200 features more elongated head optics and LED lights. Toyota is also not far behind in this regard, although the optics on the Hilux look more massive. The radiator grille on the L200 is plastic and black, has chrome inserts, and Hilux has a massive chrome grille. Toyota looks more massive and inflated, which has its advantages, including the placement of passengers in the cabin.

In the cabin, manufacturers also followed the canons of production. Three diamonds settled on minimalist equipment and quality materials. The front panel can hardly be called luxurious, but it has all the necessary controls. As some users of the converted version of Fiat note, the French-branded model has a more comfortable steering wheel.

Toyota's dashboard is more attractive, because the car is designed to compete with the notorious Dodge Ram. Of course, the Japanese 2.5-liter engine will not be able to compete with the American ICE of 5.7 liters, but the company's engineers thought about the equipment thoroughly. The notorious Japanese plastic provides a pleasant tactile sensation without causing any discomfort to the user. Passengers will be pleased with an extensive supply of adjustments, including a soft sofa instead of the second row of seats.

A serious problem with most double-cab pickups is the second row of seats, which does not allow passengers to travel comfortably. Both manufacturers responsibly approached the issue of manufacturing seats. As you know, Toyota sheathes the seats exclusively with leather or a combination of leather with auxiliary materials. Mitsubishi took a different path, offering premium versions of cars with leather seats, and more budgetary ones with velor.

A little about the stuffing

The number of options in both pickups is amazing. Manufacturers have provided the possibility of rich technical equipment, including ingenious systems, useful devices and other options to make any trip comfortable and safe. The pickup has seven units of airbags at once, power accessories, heated front seats, as well as all mirrors along with glass. Pleasantly pleased with the wide range of electrically adjustable driver's seat.

The security system in the Hilux is also thought out to the smallest detail: 7 airbags, a course stability system, a collision avoidance system and a host of other additional options. There is a rear view camera, a parking assistant. Therefore, consumers equally appreciate the Mitsubishi L200 (aka Fiat FullBack) along with the Toyota Hilux.

Let's summarize

Both versions of the car have the best technical solutions from manufacturers. Toyota is renowned for quality and durability, while Mitsubishi offers practical and cheaper solutions.

Mitsubishi are moving with the times and are currently leaving the scene as a brand in their own right. Soon, three diamonds will become part of the Renault-Nissan concern, in connection with which, rapprochement with the French will take an even shorter time. The Toyota showroom is a clear winner, being a realm of luxury, wealth and quality. At the same time, the brand asks to pay for this luxury, not forgetting about quality. The latest generation L200 is also able to offer luxury solutions.

We should also say a little about the price, because official dealers ask about 30,000 USD for the average configuration of the L200, and from 35,000 USD for the Hilux. Of course, the price was affected by the eminence of both brands, which in turn does not exclude quality along with a wide range of additional options.
