Cars were more and more seriously introduced into human life and people for the first time faced a shortage of fuel. There is even such real story about travelers who traveled through Germany at the beginning of the twentieth century and were constantly faced with a shortage of gasoline. Once, in one settlement, they managed to find fuel with great difficulty and had a chance to purchase this valuable product from a doctor, since it had already ended in the city pharmacy. This suggests that there was no centralized sale of gasoline at all, and people simply did not know what category it should be attributed to.

A little later, the sale of gasoline improved, but still it had to be bought already poured into various containers in the form of buckets or bottles. The development of mechanical engineering and an increase in the number of cars led to the emergence of specialized storage facilities. Although the refueling process itself still left much to be desired. Refueling took a lot of time and effort. The first automobile filling station was opened in 1907 in the USA. And initially the entire unit was designed for coal dust. But the development of such a scheme was too complicated and Diesel decided to focus on cheap oil refining products like fuel oil. The work of the invention of the German engineer was fundamentally different than that of Otto. Fuel was sucked into the cylinder, but no sparks were needed to ignite it. Ignition was achieved by enormous pressure that was created in the camera. It was a rather complex design, and therefore it took more than five years to construct the first working sample. The first return to an alternative fuel to gasoline occurred in 1973, when several Arab states suspended their oil supplies to Western countries and Japan. Gasoline rose sharply in price and quickly reached a mark exceeding the pre-crisis five times. And searching for the fuel that will free the world from oil dependence, has not stopped so far. The main producer of ethanol is Brazil. Sugarcane processing plants have existed in this country since 1975. Plantations for the cultivation and extraction of this raw material in a country where everyone walks in white pants are simply huge. And for forty years now, all cars produced in the country have been designed for both options, gasoline and alcohol. So that the engine does not freeze in bewilderment, electronic stuffing carefully tells him that he is in this moment consumes and adjusts it accordingly. Everything is simple and clear. In addition, the increase percentage in favor of vegetable fuels significantly reduces carbon dioxide emissions, which reduces damage to our atmosphere and reduces growth greenhouse effect. But here, too, there is a small problem. Ethanol itself does not harm our planet, but its production does. That is, in the production of this fuel, a large number of carbon dioxide, which somewhat levels its environmental friendliness.

Still, a lot still needs to be done to switch to ethanol, now only 17 percent of cars can consume this type of fuel. But nearly 70 percent can drive on a blend that contains only 15 percent gasoline and the rest is alcohol. And absolutely any engine will tolerate a 15% addition of ethanol to conventional gasoline.

Another option that can replace gasoline is hydrogen. Eat fuel cells, which are able to hold this chemical element and transfer it directly to the engine, where the collision of hydrogen with oxygen occurs. These substances generated energy by their destruction in the engine cylinders. But all these installations were simply huge, the smallest weighed 400 kilograms and could drag a car for 70 kilometers, which is clearly not enough. Soviet engineers decided to turn off this path towards gas cylinders. First cars domestic production on gas were put into series long before the Second World War. The pioneers were the ZIS-30 and GAZ-44 cars. Gas was produced in gas generators, pumped into cylinders and only then installed on cars.
