Automobile plant on the Oka

In the city of Pavlovo, he began his industrial activity in 1932 as an enterprise for the manufacture of tools and body elements for cars assembled at the Gorky Automobile Plant. After 20 years, the plant was redesigned for serial production of buses, special transport based on GAZ trucks and received the official name PAZ (Pavlovsky bus factory).

The one manufactured at the enterprise received the designation PAZ-651, but in fact it was a copy of the model of the Gorky Automobile Plant under the GAZ-651 index on the GAZ-51 chassis. Distinctive feature the first model was the bonnet layout.

In 1958, the plant began to produce the first independent development of the PAZ-652 bus. The novelty had a cabover wagon arrangement, which continues to be used on the company's buses to this day. The development was the next model - PAZ-672, manufactured from 1968 to 1989. After that, the plant began to produce its most massive model 3205, the production of which and the model range of PAZ buses based on it continues in the present period after numerous upgrades.

In 2000, the enterprise became part of the GAZ Group concern, which unites largest manufacturers automotive equipment in Russia.

The first generation of PAZ small buses

The very first range of PAZ buses (photo below) was developed and manufactured on the basis of model 651, which had the following technical characteristics:

PAZ-3205 may well claim the laurels, if not the most massive, then one of the most mass buses... no, not Russia. All over the world! Without taking into account the products of Chinese manufacturers, of course.

The Pavlovsk Bus Plant has already produced more than 220,000 (two hundred and twenty thousand!) Such vehicles. This is an absolute bestseller in its class. And from July 2015 began new stage in the history of this, without exaggeration, PAZika "of all times and peoples." The manufacturer completely, finally and irrevocably switched to the release of a restyled version, which we are studying in style.

01. On the side, it's still the same classic PAZik. Simple and concise forms, familiar from childhood. Moreover, from early childhood. After all, I and PAZ-3205- peers.

PAZ-3205 only a few months older than me. We were born in the same year - 1979. Only he is in the summer heat, and I am in the December cold. On this occasion, our small remark.

02. Throughout the first half of the 1970s, PAZ was developing a successor for the model 672M. She was supposed to be PAZ-3203- a completely new and very progressive for those times small-capacity bus with a completely new body and completely new units. The supply of these units to its conveyor PAZ, "thanks" to the Soviet economic planning system, could not break through. As a result, in April 1978, the Ministry of Automotive Industry of the USSR, due to a shortage of new components, ordered all work on the topic PAZ-3203 stop.

03. But New Product was needed. As a tribute to the efforts spent (at least on the body) efforts, a “compromise” model was born, which became PAZ-3205- symbiosis of the body "a la 3203 ", but with an engine and transmission from PAZ-672M. Compared to a carefully crafted model 3203 symbiotic-compromising "Zero Fifth" was, in a way, a "step back" in the technical-aggregate terms, but a forced step back. It began to be designed in the spring of 1978. In the summer of 1979, the first prototype PAZ-3205 was ready. This is the car from 1979:

04. Several years of testing followed. In sales statistics PAZ-3205 will appear only in 1984. But those were piece copies, assembled using bypass technologies.

05. And on the conveyor PAZ-3205 will be 10 years after the manufacture of the prototype. In January - a test assembly on a conveyor thread, then 11 months of technology development, and in December 1989 - a complete transfer of the conveyor to PAZ-3205. Most early conveyor PAZ-3205 It had this red and white color.

06. The classic appearance of the "good-natured eye" will be assigned to this bus for many, many years. A prototype of the restyled version “with a Leninist squint” will appear in 2010, and from 2013 the restyled mask will be offered to customers as an inexpensive option.

But for the sake of historical justice, we cannot fail to mention the fact that the current restyling is not the first attempt to change the familiar look PAZ-3205. Not the first in principle, but the first to see the series. What were the previous ones? This is our second remark.

07. This is an option PAZ-32051-50 shown in 1994. An experiment, nothing more.

09. In the mid-2000s, design searches continued. And, as you can see, one of the options saw the light.

10 . Now "muzzle" PAZ-32053 looks like that. Plastic elements the front body cladding for the PAZ is manufactured by the Togliatti company Polad. Previously, the restyled version was assembled in parallel with the "eyes", now only a new version is in production.

11. Did it work out well? Definitely good! A small plastic surgery has changed and rejuvenated the face of the bus. Previously, the visual image of the front end was based on the contrast of the color of the plastic grille and the color of the body. On updated version one color is used for everything. By the way, white is basic.

20. Dashboard while it is applied, well, oh-oh-very old-school. But, they say that a completely new “tidy” is already somewhere on the way to mass production. We are waiting with interest.

24. On the PAZiki of the 3205 family they put different motors. In this case, it is a gasoline 8-cylinder V-shaped carburetor ZMZ-52342.10.

26. Entrance door, effect overall dimensions and established traditions, of course, narrow. Its width is only 73 cm. You can't mix each other here. But "one by one" to enter and exit normally.

27. If you didn’t have time to enter, then you should know that on the right is hidden “ secret button". It really works, so when you press it, immediately remove your hand. I would have placed this button all the same on the sidewall - it's more noticeable and safer.

28. But at the steps with safety, everything is in order. All lines are smooth, there is not a single sharp corner. Liked.

29. In the family PAZ-32053 There are several interior layout options. In this case, it is a suburban version with 25 seats. On this modification, the first two rows of seats on the port side are installed according to the vis-a-vis scheme.

31. General form salon. Outwardly, such a kind of "hello from the 80s", but in fact it is much more comfortable to sit here than in most "vans". The seat pitch is sufficient even for tall people.

32. "Aft" part of the cabin. Here, seats for 10 people are arranged in a U-shaped pattern. You won’t particularly admire the splendor of the views outside the window, but this made it possible to organize a fairly spacious storage area and...

34. The handrail system is very well organized. They are not particularly visible, while there are enough of them for everyone.

35. And I really liked the interior lighting. It is bright and evenly distributed. Reading a newspaper on a dark evening is not a problem.

36. This bus is an absolute hit of the Pavlovsk plant. Yes, very simple, extremely simple. And inexpensive. At the same time, it gives a completely acceptable level of comfort to passengers, and it can be repaired in any machine and tractor workshop of any collective farm. This is exactly how the PAZik-3205 was conceived under Brezhnev, and it remains so today. And that is what makes it a hit, still in demand by the market.

You know, I wouldn't be surprised if ten years later PAZ-3205 will still be produced and sold. I wonder if they will make a new restyling then?
