Symptoms of a failed pump The principle of operation of the pump

Is there any unusual noise while driving? Coolant leak? It's time to look under the hood and check the condition of the coolant pump. Where can I find it, and what malfunctions are typical for this part?

Purpose and principle of operation of the cooling system pump

The cooling system pump (pump) performs important function- engine cooling. During work vehicle the power unit heats up, and so that overheating does not occur, the pump, under the influence of the timing belt, produces forced circulation coolant in the system. The coolant enters the water pump from the lower radiator tank. Fluid leaving the pump passes through the cylinder block and cylinder heads, then to the radiator and finally back to the pump.
Without an engine cooling system, its normal and uninterrupted operation is impossible.

A malfunction of the cooling system pump leads to boiling of the coolant and, accordingly, engine failure. A faulty pump can cause permanent engine damage.

General design of the pump

The pump is an aluminum or steel case, inside of which there is Working wheel(impeller) placed on the shaft with a pulley. Inside the structure there are special channels designed for the removal and supply of coolant. On drive shaft there is an impeller, which rotates, sets the coolant in motion. At the other end of the shaft is a pulley.

The body and impeller are made by casting magnesium or aluminum alloys, there are plastic impellers. The cooling system pump is located at the front of the cylinder block.

Signs of a malfunctioning cooling pump

You can understand that the pump has worked out its resource by the following signs:

  • in the car interior, the smell of coolant is clearly felt;
  • drops of coolant are visible under the vehicle;
  • appeared extraneous noise(knocking or crunching) when driving a car;
  • the readings of the sensor that determines the coolant temperature are in the red sector;
  • the coolant level in the expansion tank has dropped.

Consequences of using cheap products

When buying a cheap pump or a fake of a well-known brand, there is a high probability of it rapid wear. In the production of such parts, low-quality materials are used, which leads to breakdowns - leakage, jamming of bearings. Such a pump can seriously harm the car. IN best case after a poor-quality pump, a motorist will have to purchase new pump, at worst, he faces an expensive engine repair. When jammed, coolant will flow out, the belt breaks The timing will bend the valve and it will be impossible to continue moving, which means that the car will have to be evacuated.

Coolant pump replacement

The described method allows you to replace the pump on all VAZ models: 2101, 2102, 2103, 2104, 2105, 2106, 2107, 2108, 2109, 21099, 2110, 2111, 2112, 2113, 2114, Niva, Lada Priora, Kalina, Grant, Vesta and most foreign cars.

To replace the cooling system pump, you will need to prepare tools: a 10 head, six-corner bits, a small ratchet, wire cutters, a screwdriver.

  • We drive the vehicle onto the overpass and free access to. To do this, unscrew the crankcase and engine protection. Raise the hood cover and unscrew the plug on the left side to drain.

If you plan to refill the same coolant, then you need to substitute a container (for example, a bucket) under the radiator.

  • We find the bolt on the front of the cylinder block and unscrew it. We also drain the coolant from the engine.
  • Remove the plastic trim from the engine. To do this, pull it up a little.
  • We unscrew the bolts holding the front timing belt cover with a ratchet connected to a bat.
  • We expose the upper pulleys along the triangular recesses on the rear cover of the timing belt.

  • We unscrew the two rollers of the timing belt tensioner and remove it together with the gear.

  • Now pull out the top two toothed pulley. To do this, you need to unscrew them.
  • On the back cover of the timing belt drive, using a 10 head, unscrew six bolts and pull it out.
  • We unscrew the three screws securing the pump with a ratchet.

  • We take out the pump. To do this, pry the screwdriver off the ebb on the case and pull it out.

  • Clean with a dry cloth seat pump from the remnants of the old gasket and dirt.
  • On the new pump, lubricate the gasket seat with a small amount of sealant.
  • We put a gasket on the pump, and also lubricate it.
  • We install the pump on the engine so that the hole in its housing is directed down to the nearest hole to the filter.
  • We fasten the bolts holding the pump.

In the event that the installation or replacement of the cooling system pump was not performed correctly, knocking will be heard when driving on rough roads and the smell of coolant will appear in the cabin.

Possible malfunctions of the cooling system pump

Bearing failures are the main cause of failure of the cooling system pump. It is conditionally possible to distinguish two main malfunctions of these parts.

  • Bearing play, which can cause not only malfunctions in the engine cooling system, but also a broken timing belt. Traces of coolant on the pump indicate this problem.
  • Bearing seizure occurs as a result of a lack of lubrication. It stops spinning, which causes the timing belt to break. Jamming can also be caused by debris entering the cooling system, in which case it is necessary to clean the system.

The reasons for the failure of the pump may be the destruction of:

  • seals and gaskets;
  • corps;
  • impellers.

As a rule, the cause of these destructions is the desire of drivers to save on coolant. Cheap liquid can freeze when sub-zero temperatures, provoke the appearance of corrosion, etc. When choosing a liquid, you should give preference to more expensive famous brands to help prevent damage to the pump.

Partial repair of shaft bearings and replacement of seals is theoretically possible, but, as a rule, motorists immediately change the pump when a malfunction is detected. Partial repairs have certain difficulties, and the final price individual parts will be almost equal to the cost of the pump assembly.

At operation of the internal combustion engine stands out a large number of thermal energy, which must be constantly removed in order to avoid overheating and engine failure. Even a minor malfunction in the cooling system can subsequently turn into a long, costly repair. The water pump is far from the best intricate detail car, but it is she who is the central link in the cooling system.

Water pump in a car

cooling pump, water pump, cooling pump - these terms mean the same part - a centrifugal-type pump that provides forced circulation of fluid through the cooling circuit. Constant circulation ensures efficient heat dissipation to prevent engine overheating internal combustion.

The design of the pump is quite simple: inside a cast housing made of aluminum or cast iron (less often composite materials) there is an impeller driven by a rotating shaft. Tightness is provided rubber seal and a gasket in the area of the connection between the pump and the shirt. The coolant is supplied through the central channel and, falling on the impeller, is discarded due to centrifugal force to the walls of the case. Through the water distribution tube, antifreeze enters the nozzles exhaust valves and further - into the cooling jacket, where heating takes place. When certain temperatures are reached, the thermostat opens, and the antifreeze cools quickly in the radiator, after which it returns to the pump again.

Water pump failure: risk factors

An analysis of the reasons for the failure of the pump indicates that the most " weak link» node is the oil seal. Lack of proper attention to its condition and untimely replacement can lead to a violation of tightness with all the ensuing consequences in the literal sense of the word. You should not focus on the guaranteed service life of the pump: due to the unsatisfactory condition of roads, difficult weather conditions or of questionable quality antifreeze, the oil seal can fail much earlier. Experienced drivers for preventive purposes, the quality and quantity of antifreeze are regularly monitored, which allows you to notice problems in time and replace them.

The second reason is bearing wear. The malfunction will not go unnoticed, since a characteristic noise immediately appears during movement. Delay in replacement is fraught with serious consequences, up to the jamming of the shaft.

Least likely in water cooling pump impeller breaks. The cause of failure can be corrosion processes due to low-quality antifreeze, and for parts made of composite materials - mechanical damage due to temperature fluctuations.

Pump replacement: no room for error

The cooling pump is a single structural unit, uptime which provide precisely fitted parts. Experienced auto mechanics do not recommend making partial renovation. When the first signs appear, the malfunction is better buy a pump assemble and produce complete replacement. Dismantling and installation of the cooling pump is a rather complicated operation. On the network you can find a lot of videos and master classes from the "do it yourself" series, but in the absence of practical skills, it is better to contact the station Maintenance or car service.

The recommended interval for replacing the cooling pump is every 80-90 thousand kilometers, but in practice, water pumps can withstand such a period only when the car is operated under ideal conditions. Usually the life of the pump is 2 times longer than that of the timing belt, so you can make it a rule to change the pump with every second belt change.

It is urgent to contact a car repair shop if at least one of the following “symptoms” is noticed:

  • engine overheating;
  • leakage of antifreeze;
  • extraneous sound when driving;
  • the appearance of a characteristic smell of lubricant.

Timely diagnosis and replacement of the pump will help to avoid failure and subsequent costly engine repairs.

Where to buy a pump?

If you don't want to spend time and money on frequent replacement pumps, you should not save on buying a water pump. Practice shows that cheap offers are far from always profitable: at best, you will have to contact the service for an unscheduled replacement, at worst, pay a lot of money for engine repairs.

When choosing a pump, experts recommend giving preference to products from trusted manufacturers. Possibly the price of a cooling pump famous brand It will seem overpriced, but in the future it will fully justify itself. Quality pumps provide low level noise and vibration throughout the entire period of operation, have increased resource(up to 200 thousand km), made of high quality materials. The main rule for choosing a cooling pump is to be compatible with a particular brand of car, and where buy a pump– in the online store, on the market or at official dealer- each car owner decides for himself.

The water pump is an integral part of the cooling system of an internal combustion engine of any vehicle. The device of this node is quite simple, and the purpose is clear from the name itself.

Description and device of the pump

Or the water pump is part of the system that cools the heated motor. Without system performance or component failure, motors overheat and bring a lot of trouble to their owners.

The water pump or pump of the engine cooling system circulates fluid through the power unit to the cooling elements, which ensures a constant operating temperature inside the structure.

Before proceeding directly to the analysis of the main elements of the water pump, it is worth understanding common system engine cooling. To do this, it is worth considering what elements it includes, and how the process of circulation of the coolant goes:

  • Radiator.
  • Expansion tank.
  • Water pump.
  • Thermostat.
  • Water jacket inside the engine.
  • Pipe set.
  • Drain valves and plugs.

An extended range of parts of the engine cooling system should also include: a stove radiator and stove pipes.

The engine cooling pump circulates coolant through the system. Thus, it is worth understanding that and like any pump, it consists of parts, namely:

  • Frame.
  • Impeller.
  • Drive shaft.
  • Bearing.
  • Sealing ring.
  • Clamping spring (on old models of domestic cars).
  • Pulley (on most models, a removable part of the pump).

How does the product work? With the help of a drive belt, which is hooked to the pulley, the system is put into operation. The movement from the pulley is transmitted to the shaft, and then to the impeller, which already circulates the coolant.

It should be noted that more turnover crankshaft, the more the engine heats up, so the crankshaft pulley is paired with a belt with a water pump pulley.

Thus, the faster the main shaft spins power unit, topics high speed pumps, and therefore the circulation of the coolant is faster. In other words, the faster the spin crankshaft, the faster it is necessary to carry out cooling, therefore, the revolutions of the c / shaft and the pump are paired.

Main malfunctions

A faulty water pump can bring a lot of trouble to the owner of his car, as the coolant circulation system is disrupted, which leads to overheating of the engine. Thus, you need to know and understand how to determine the malfunction of the pump, as well as replace the part in time.

It is worth noting that most modern cars equipped with non-separable pumps. Since the cost of the part is low, it makes no sense to rebuild the element. In countries such as the US and Germany, an item such as the water pump of the cooling system is considered a consumable item.

So, how to recognize a water pump malfunction:

  • When the engine is started cold, a dull sound is heard from engine compartment. It is worth noting that this may be due to other faults such as the alternator or drive belt.
  • From under the pump pulley smudges of coolant are visible. This means that there is play between the shaft and the housing, or the rubber seal is worn out.
  • During diagnostics, play is heard in the water pump bearing, but no coolant leaks are visible. IN this case if the pump is collapsible, it is enough to replace the bearing, if not, you will have to change the entire element.

Troubleshooting Methods

Troubleshooting the water pump depends on design features car. So, if the water pump is collapsible (for older car models), it is possible to sort it out, but for non-collapsible ones, you will have to change the assembly element.

Collapsible pump repair

Repair of a collapsible water pump should be entrusted to professionals, since they know the allowable clearances between the shaft and the housing, and can also determine the maintainability of the element. So, if it was decided that the pump is suitable for repair, the following steps must be taken:

  1. Remove the belt from the pump pulley.
  2. We dismantle the pulley itself (usually fixed on 3 or 4 bolts).
  3. We unscrew the housing and remove the pump assembly.
  4. From the inside, we dismantle the impeller and the retaining rings of the shaft.
  5. We carry out the pressing of the drive shaft.
  6. We press out the bearing, which probably remained in the housing.
  7. Now you need to replace the parts that were worn out.
  8. Assembly is carried out in reverse order.

Of course, for each car model, this process will be carried out in different ways, it all depends on the design features of the vehicle and the power unit.

Replacing a non-separable water pump

The process of replacing a non-separable water pump is quite typical for all cars. So, there is no need to remove the pulley, since it comes as an assembly. So, consider the sequence of actions aimed at replacing the pump:

  1. Remove the drive belt from the water pump pulley.
  2. We unscrew the bolts securing the housing from the cylinder block.
  3. Take out the water pump.
  4. We assemble in the reverse order.

It is worth noting that most motorists do not know that there is a gasket between the water pump and the engine housing, which is included with new part often does not go and it must be purchased separately.

Consequences of untimely replacement of the water pump

After the main issues that relate to the design, operation and malfunctions of the water pump have been considered, it is worth considering the issue of consequences untimely replacement products.

Many motorists, after the appearance of a whistle or leakage of the pump, continue to drive in such a faulty technical condition, at the same time, without thinking about what it will burn to threaten. Thus, there are indirect signs that the situation has reached a critical point.

For example, a constantly running cooling fan may not only indicate an inoperative thermostat, but also a lack of "coolant" in the system, due to the fact that it flows from under the pulley.

So, let's consider what consequences a motorist should prepare for when untimely repair node:

  • Constant fluid leakage reduces the level of coolant in the system, which first leads to permanent job thermostat and adding liquid, and then to overheating.
  • In turn, overheating is fraught with serious consequences, such as damage to internal elements cylinder heads. The worst option is deflection and deformation cylinder head plane which leads to other dire consequences.
  • Also, constant overheating contributes to the fact that cracks appear in the body of the block head and cylinder block, which are quite difficult to eliminate.
  • The most terrible consequence is that after deformation of the cylinder head, the coolant can go inside the combustion chambers, and this is a water hammer, the consequence of which is a complete and irreversible overhaul of the power unit or replacement of the engine altogether. This can seriously hit the owner's pocket.

Based on the above, the repair of the water pump of the cooling system should be carried out on time, upon detection of the first signs of a malfunction. If this is not done, the consequences can be disastrous for the engine and the owner of the vehicle.

Conclusion

The engine cooling pump is an integral part of the cooling system of the power unit. Malfunction given element can cause the engine to overheat, which in turn can lead to negative consequences. The first signs of a pump failure are a dull whistle after a cold start and smudges from the pulley.

The water pump is the most important part of the engine cooling system of any car. If this device fails for some reason, then catastrophic damage can be caused to the motor, which often even a major overhaul cannot cope with. The problem is further aggravated by the fact that it is far from always possible to immediately notice a breakdown of the pump. The driver usually begins to suspect that something is wrong only when smoke begins to come out from under the hood. But it is still possible to avoid such a development of events.

Causes of water pump failure

The pump in the car can fail due to different reasons. We list the most common:

Pump health check

It should be noted right away that in order to identify many malfunctions of the water pump, this device will have to be removed from the engine and disassembled. This is the only way to see dirt, corrosion and cavitation traces.

Water pump impeller heavily damaged by corrosion

But there are a number of signs by which you can establish a pump malfunction without removing it. Here they are:

  • a thin continuous whistle coming from under the pulley camshaft engine. This whistle indicates a faulty bearing.
  • coolant leaks, which are visible both on the engine itself and on the asphalt under the car;
  • pump play, which can be found by simply grasping the pulley and shaking the pump up and down with your hand.

Let's consider these faults in more detail.

pump whistle

The reason for the whistle of the pump is a partially or completely destroyed ball bearing on the main shaft of the device. Moreover, the pump bearing, as a rule, emits a very high, shrill whistle, while the whistle faulty generator significantly lower and sometimes turns into a rattle. Here the difference in the size of the bearings affects: the ball bearing is small on the pump, therefore it whistles very thinly. The alternator bearing is twice as large, so the sound from it comes from the corresponding one. So it is almost impossible to confuse the sound of a broken pump and a broken generator.

Central ball bearing pump is completely destroyed

The problem is solved by replacing the central bearing of the pump. However, there is one caveat: separately, these bearings are practically not sold anywhere. And you can buy them only complete with a new pump. Therefore, the driver, having heard a characteristic thin whistle coming from under the hood, should be ready to fork out: a new water pump can cost from 2 to 10 thousand rubles (depending on the brand of car).

Coolant leak

The liquid begins to flow from under the pump in two cases:

The first problem is solved by simply tightening the bolts. But the damaged sealing gasket will have to be changed. Fortunately, it is easier to find a gasket for a pump on sale than a central bearing (and in especially difficult cases, motorists even order seals via the Internet, from the Chinese on Aliexpress, for example).

Water pump leaking due to overtightening

It should also be noted here that even a new gasket can be easily cut with a pump if the fixing bolts are not tightened correctly. The pump is one of those devices where it is very important not to overtighten when tightening. It is necessary to tighten the bolts according to the pattern crosswise: first the upper right is tightened, then the lower left, then the upper left, the lower left, etc. Only such a tightening scheme can guarantee maximum tightness and tightness of the connection.

Finally, we must not forget about sealants. There are situations when new gasket, nor correct scheme tightening does not help to get rid of the leak. Then there is only one option left: use a sealant, and its composition must be very resistant to high temperatures.

The sealant is applied to the pump gasket in a very thin layer.

The best option here is a professional sealant from ABRO, which has proven itself on all makes of cars.

Professional ABRO sealant high temperature resistant

Coolant leak after heat exchanger replacement

In the vast majority of cases, after replacing the heat exchanger, antifreeze begins to flow not from under the pump, but from under the clamps of the pipe connected to the pump. On most modern cars, the pump pipes are made of plastic, and very brittle plastic. Any careless movement when replacing the heat exchanger, if it does not break such a pipe, then at least violate the tightness of its connection with the pump. After that, the antifreeze will definitely begin to leak. There are two options to solve this problem:

How can a pump be repaired?

As a rule, motorists prefer not to repair the water pump, but immediately change it. This is due both to the difficulty of finding spare parts for this device, and to simple pragmatism: it is easier and faster to change the pump than fiddling with its disassembly, assembly and subsequent configuration. It is advisable to repair the pump only when some not very important part, such as a cooling pipe or a gasket, fails. The pipe can be tightened, and the leaking gasket can be put on the sealant. In all other cases, replacing the pump remains the most rational option that will save both time and nerves of the motorist.

Replacing the cooling pump with your own hands

A motorist may well change the water pump on his own. Let's illustrate this process on the example of the Peugeot 307 car. But before that, let's decide on the tools and consumables. For work we need the following things:

  • new water pump;
  • wrenches, set;
  • wrenches and wrench included;
  • coolant, 5 liters;
  • jack.

Pump replacement sequence using the Peugeot 307 as an example

  1. The car is driven to viewing hole, the wheels are fixed with shoes. Front right wheel lifted with a jack and removed with a socket wrench.
    Right front wheel Peugeot 307 is jacked up and removed
  2. Through drainer under the radiator old antifreeze merges into a substituted container (it can be either a ten-liter bucket or an ordinary basin).
  3. The next step is to remove the timing belt to gain access to the pump. Near the camshaft pulley there is a belt retainer and a timing belt tensioner bolt. With a 10 open-end wrench, first the latch is loosened, and then the tensioner bolt.
    To loosen the timing belt on the Peugeot 307, you need to loosen the tensioner roller
  4. After loosening these bolts, the timing belt tension will also loosen and it can be removed manually.
    Loose timing belt on Peugeot 307 can be removed manually
  5. The pump is accessible. It rests on five 12 bolts, which are easily unscrewed with a regular open-end wrench.
    Access to the water pump "Peugeot 307" is open, you can remove
  6. The pump is removed, a new one is put in its place and the cooling system is assembled in the reverse order.

How much does it cost to replace a pump

Some motorists do not change the pump on their own, but entrust this business to professionals. It should be noted that the cost of replacing a water pump in a car service depends on both the make of the car and the availability of the device itself. In one case, the replacement may take as little as 20 minutes. In another specialist it will take several hours. And during this time, he will be forced to dismantle half of the car to get to the pump. That is why the cost of replacing a pump can vary widely: from 1 to 6 thousand rubles.

Do I need to change the coolant when replacing the pump

In short - yes, changing the pump, it is necessary to change the coolant. There are two reasons why this should be done:

It should also be noted here that it is necessary to fill in the car not only with new, but also with the highest quality coolant. After all, as mentioned above, the vast majority of all problems with pumps are from bad antifreeze. It is for this reason that saving on antifreeze is categorically unacceptable, because it may one day cause an overhaul of the entire engine.

Problems that occur after replacing the pump

There is a couple typical problems that a motorist may encounter by installing a new pump on the car. Let's analyze them in more detail.

Noise after pump replacement

Noise after replacing the pump can occur in two cases:

  • the pump is screwed too loosely, so that the pump body beats against the walls of the pump niche;
  • the pump was defective. Unfortunately, this is not uncommon. Pumps from well-known manufacturers often faked (recently, the Chinese have been especially guilty of this). So you should buy such a responsible part only in company stores with the appropriate certificates.

After replacing the pump, the stove stopped heating

There are two reasons for this error:

Driving with a bad pump

You can't drive with a bad pump. If the driver does not want to overhaul his car (and it’s far from a fact that this repair will be successful), then the only way for him to move is to take faulty car in tow and without starting the engine, deliver it to the nearest service center or garage for repairs.

A vehicle with a faulty water pump can only be towed

So, the water pump is a very important unit, which is strongly not recommended to joke with. Fortunately, on most cars, the pump can be replaced with your own hands, and even a novice driver can cope with this task. Perhaps it will take a beginner more time than a professional. But at the same time, he will gain invaluable experience and save money.

The pump, or the water pump device of the internal combustion engine of a car, is a pump that creates forced circulation of the cooling liquid (antifreeze) in the entire cooling system of the internal combustion engine. This device is designed to organize the circulation of antifreeze or other coolant in the cooling system. If this device fails, then there is a serious violation of the internal thermal regime of the engine, as a result of which it will boil and deteriorate very quickly, and its service life will decrease significantly.

Due to the fact that the car pump device is sufficient simple mechanism, its breakdown is quite rare. Moreover, problems will not arise if the motorist carefully monitors the condition of the internal combustion engine. However, it is important to note that even the most reliable pump can sometimes fail. So, there are several reasons why this device malfunctions:

- unprofessional repair;

Wear of the device components and aging of the stuffing box;

Poor quality pump, which was installed first.

In cases where the system remains hermetic, but still the pump cannot initiate the circulation of fluid through it, an increase in engine temperature will occur, which will simply “scream” all the readings on the sensor dashboard. Even a short and short-term driving and operation of the vehicle in this kind of mode can lead to boiling of the radiator device or jamming of the internal combustion engine. Another sign of a pump failure can be an antifreeze leak that occurs in the area of its installation.

If the leak is not very strong, then this will not be such a terrible problem, since the circulating fluid in the system will still normally perform all the functions assigned to it, it just needs to be added regularly. However, if such a minor malfunction occurs, then it should be stopped potential problem immediately, since all leaks tend to increase rapidly in engines that are intensively operated.

1. Pump design.

pump device in more car is identical. For the most part, this will apply directly to cars. domestic production. The location of the pump will not need to be searched for a long time, since it is driven by the timing belt and is located directly next to the radiator device.

By design, the pump looks like this: the shaft is attached to the lid. An impeller is mounted on it, through the movement of which movement in the fluid system is initiated. On the other side of the shaft, a drive pulley is mounted, and in some car models, also a fan. Through the timing belt and the drive pulley, the rotational energy of the internal combustion engine will be transmitted to the shaft, and the shaft itself will drive the impeller device, as a result of which the entire system will work.

An oil seal will be mounted directly between the impeller and the housing, due to the wear of which many problems arise with pumps. If this kind is bad, then antifreeze or antifreeze will gradually seep into the cavity to the bearings, as a result of which their lubricant will be washed out. It is because of this that the bearings will work much louder, and their wear will occur an order of magnitude faster, which will lead to jamming of the pump device.

2. The principle of operation of the pump.

The pump (car water pump) is one of the key elements of the liquid of any modern vehicle. The main purpose of this device is to circulate the coolant throughout cooling system. As a result, after passing through one such circle, the liquid temperature will decrease, which will restore its ability to cool other parts.

When the internal combustion engine is running, which is cooled in the radiator, it will flow to the pump - to the center of the impeller. As a result, the space between the blades of the latter will be completely filled with antifreeze. Due to the fact that there is an effect of centrifugal force, the impeller will throw antifreeze to the sides.

Through a special hole, it will go into the cooling jacket of the power unit. This is how coolant circulation in the engine cooling system will be ensured. It is also important to note that in order to maximally exclude all kinds of antifreeze leaks between the engine block and the pump housing, you need to install a special cardboard gasket. It is also important to note that the fan, which in most cases is located directly on the pump pulley and starts its work with it, is made of sheet steel or plastic. To minimize the noise of its operation, the blades are arranged in an X-shape and at certain angles.

In order to reduce the power that is needed in order to drive the fan, nodes with electromagnetic clutch. It is this device that can turn off the fan drive when the coolant temperature drops to a certain temperature. In this way, the clutch will optimize the operation of the cooling system, while reducing the noise of the entire unit.

3. Pump replacement.

In order to make sure that the pump device is malfunctioning, a few light tests should be performed. The first option is to warm up the engine to operating temperature, after which you need to compress the upper radiator hose. If at the same time it will be felt that the liquid continues to circulate in the system, then we can accurately conclude that the pump device is working properly. In the second option, you should just listen to the operation of the pump. If a hum is heard at the same time, then most likely the bearing part is malfunctioning. In this case, you should not wait for its complete inoperability, you should immediately replace the pump in order to avoid big troubles.

Now you should proceed directly to the consideration of the removal and replacement algorithm faulty pump.First you need to remove the adsorber in order to provide yourself with maximum convenience during work, while hoses and wires are not disconnected. After that, remove the plastic protective cover from the internal combustion engine and the timing belt cover. Then you should take a jack and jack it up right side vehicle so that the front right wheel is off the ground. This is necessary so that everything can be labeled. To make it even more convenient, you can make one mark with white paint. Unfortunately, you will have to remove the wheel as well, as you need to reach the bottom bolt of the plastic casing.

If the timing belt is in good condition there is no point in replacing it. In addition, the pump should be removed without removing the alternator drive belt, as this will save the motorist a lot of time. However, the camshaft pulleys and the plastic casing itself will still have to be removed. To do this, you need to weaken everything tension rollers, then remove the timing belt from them.

After that, you need to lock the camshaft gears with something flat. This is done in order to unscrew them.
