The most important thing that distinguishes the N57S is three-stage supercharging: there are two BorgWarner BV45 and one B2 turbines, which allow you to get 381 hp. at 4000-4400 rpm and a torque of 740 Nm at 2000-3000 rpm.

In parallel with the N57, a related 4-cylinder diesel engine N47 was produced, which is a smaller copy of the N57 and, in addition to the absence of two cylinders, differs mainly in turbines, intake and exhaust.

Starting in 2015, the N57 is gradually being replaced by the newer B57 diesels.

BMW N57D30 engine modifications
