The fastest Mercedes e63 AMG: Interior Exterior Engine Price. Updated Mercedes E63 AMG W212 has become more powerful Interior and exterior

Six hundred horsepower and 850 Nm of traction for a family production sedan? Madness on wheels. However, Mercedes and its AMG division do not think so. AMG decided to return to the scene with a sports luxury sedan, bringing its technical characteristics to the technocratic absurdity. The maximum speed of the Mercedes AMG E63 2017 model year is 310 km / h, and the sedan will accelerate to hundreds in three and a half seconds. The new S-badged model will be faster by one tenth of a second. Perhaps this is an arms race with competitors, since no company producing mass-produced sedans has achieved such indicators and it is unlikely that fans of the brand felt an urgent need for such a car for the whole family.

New Mercedes-AMG E 63: power is not limitless, but close to it

The company again says that the new charged Eshka will be the fastest and most powerful in the history of Mercedes and, perhaps, are ready to compete in these disciplines with serious-level sports cars. Without going into the logic of the marketing department, you can guess that the new sedan will not have as many buyers as the civilian version. The price has nothing to do with it and it has not even been officially named yet. In Europe, the new Mercedes-AMG E 63 will cost from about €115,000, and whether it will be possible to buy a devilishly fast sedan in Russia is still unknown. Worldwide sales will start in spring 2017, when the exact prices will be announced.

At the end of November 2016, the car was shown at the Los Angeles Auto Show, where the exact specifications and details were announced, and the first test drives of the pre-production car took place in the States and in Spain. The company spent about a billion euros and almost two years to develop the most powerful version of the E-class. The Germans would not have spent so much money if they were not sure of the success of the flagship eshka, and they began to appear back in the late 70s. AMG versions of the E-class were also built for the then most popular W123 body. In just over ten years, the company has sold more than 2.5 million sedans, but there were very few charged versions. Standard all-wheel drive appeared only on the E-class in the back of the W124, for the first time they began to install eight-cylinder V-engines. The stock E500, for example, could show 326 forces, and accelerated to hundreds in six seconds. The AMG versions already looked impressive then, especially, according to the owners, the AMG 300 E600 Hummer with a V-shaped eight with a capacity of 450 horses.

The big-eyed 210th body also had versions from the court tuning studio, and just in that period, from 95 to 2002, sales of charged versions increased greatly. For example, the E36 AMG with a 3.6-liter in-line six-cylinder engine and a power of 280 forces was sold only 50 times, and more than 12 thousand people bought the E55 AMG version with a huge 5.4-liter atmospheric eight with a return of 354 forces. The largest engine that was installed under the hoods of AMG E-class cars was a 6.2-liter aspirated engine with 525 forces. It was installed on the E63 of the previous generation, and later it was replaced by a bi-turbo eight of the same power, but with a volume of 5.5 liters. The most powerful Mercedes-AMG E 63 S of the previous generation showed 585 forces and accelerated to 100 km / h in 3.6 seconds. How could the new model from AMG be worse? In no case. Only better.

Better than the old Mercedes E63 AMG - only new, photo

Family sedan with a capacity of 600 forces

This car really became a little sensation. slow growing. While the global automotive community is digesting the specifications of the new Mercedes-AMG E63, we already know what to expect from it.

Not so long ago, from the lips of BMW management, the idea was voiced that a car from an assembly line with more power than 600 horsepower does not make any sense. What do you say, said AMG, and released a 612-horsepower elegant family sedan. Moreover, the monodrive will not be in any of the configurations. Only the latest branded 4Matic +, on four wheels with active drift mode.

This function will provide only rear-wheel drive, it will allow you to feel everything that powerful engines love for, moreover, in the Mercedes-AMG E63 configuration, the rear axle will be locked electronically, and in the S version, the lock will be mechanical. The new all-wheel drive system dispenses with the center differential, its role will be played by a multi-plate clutch in the front-wheel drive. Fine-tuned handling will be ensured not only by the perfect balance of traction between the front and rear axles, but also by such trifles as an aluminum MacPherson strut thrust cup instead of steel.

In many ways, the Mercedes-AMG E63 repeats the innovations of the latest generation of the E-Class, and there are many of these innovations. They concern mostly technology - the body, suspension, driver assistance systems and security systems. The platform largely repeats the stock one - it is a multi-link at the back and a double-lever (based on pneumatic three-chamber racks) in front. The difference is that in the civilian version of the car, air suspension is an option, and all AMGs will be equipped with adaptive pneumatics without fail. The front struts are three-chamber pneumatics with ZF Sachs air springs and single-tube shock absorbers with remote rebound and compression chambers. Their work may vary depending on the mode selected by the driver (or automation) - Comfort, Sport, Sport +.

New body and security systems

To ensure the rigidity and strength of the body, a cocktail of steel, aluminum and composites was used in its design. The total share of aluminum power parts in the frame increased from three to 16%, in addition, the hood, front spars, trunk lid and suspension support cups are made of aluminum. The entire power frame is stamped from high-strength steel, and some of the frame elements, motor shield, racks, bottom elements, are made of steel of special strength. As a result, the body of the new Mercedes-AMG E63 is almost 80 kg lighter than the previous generation. A variable ratio steering rack is mounted on a steel subframe, and the booster motor is mounted directly on the rack. Another interesting innovation in the car body is the way of fixing some elements together. To achieve strength and to increase rigidity, it was decided to abandon some welded joints, so the trunk crossbars, for example, are first glued with a composite material, and then literally knocked down with nails.

There are also innovations in the security system. For example, even in the last generation of the E-class, such a feature was implemented as a bouncing hood when hitting a pedestrian. This is necessary in order to minimize injuries by making the blow more slippery. The system was designed for several runs, but now the number of downed pedestrians has been reduced to one - the system is disposable. Firstly, the reusable system was heavy, and secondly, it often worked out of business. Therefore, they abandoned it and installed a system that works only once, but with a 100% guarantee. The triggering system was equipped with new sensors - a vacuum tube was installed in the bumper cavity, which detects a pressure surge, and a sensor installed in the wheel arch cavity is responsible for triggering the hood displacement mechanism itself. In addition to the classic airbags, several innovations have also been installed. A pair of pillows are installed on the middle pillar, which, in a fraction of a second before the impact, shifts the passenger a couple of centimeters to the center of the body. It is these centimeters that are often not enough to avoid serious injuries in a frontal impact. Together with these additional pillows, the PreSafeSound system is activated, it makes a loud sound, preparing passengers for a loud impact. The rear seat belts can be inflated for a fee.

One engine, two characters

Single engine, two characters

The Mercedes-AMG E63 has only one engine. His project was shown back in 2014, but significantly improved. Initially, this motor was to be installed on the AMG GT coupe and the main parameters remained relevant:

  • eight cylinders in a V-shaped layout;
  • 90-degree classic camber;
  • 3982 cubes of volume;
  • base power 510 forces at 6300 rpm;
  • cylinder diameter 83 mm;
  • piston stroke 92 mm;
  • base thrust 650 Nm.

Such characteristics were presented then, but the capabilities of this motor are enough to remove both 600 and 700 horses from it. Therefore, for the new Mercedes-AMG E63, the unit was finalized and tuned in two versions - for the simple E63 and for the E63S. Flexibility in settings and enormous potential - these are the two pillars on which the new engine rests. In the collapse of the cylinder block, a Borg Warner twin turbine easily fit. This arrangement has made the entire unit extremely compact, 90mm shorter than the previous generation's eight-cylinder 6.2-liter naturally aspirated engine.

Dual supercharging works with a liquid intercooler and is capable of producing pressures up to 1.3 bar. The injection system is direct, with Bosch piezo injectors, they can supply fuel up to 7 times per cycle. The specific power of the base motor is 128 forces per liter of volume, but the power can be safely raised due to the settings. In AMG, they raised her. Now the regular Mercedes-AMG E63 4Manic+ has 571 hp. and 750 Nm of thrust, the fastest and most powerful Mercedes-AMG E63 S 4Matic + shows 612 horses with a torque of 850 Nm. Both motors are paired with a nine-speed automatic of its own design 9G Tronic, in which a clutch with two discs in an oil bath is installed instead of a torque converter. The automatic transmission can handle up to 1000 Nm of torque, which suggests that it has good prospects for the most powerful models, while its efficiency is about 92%, which is 12% higher than that of a seven-speed Mercedes automatic.

2017-2018 Mercedes AMG E63 S review

Outwardly, it is not easy to distinguish the Mercedes-AMG E63 from a simple new E-class, but those who are in the know will definitely notice the double-bar grille and enlarged air intakes in the front bumper. The salon also differs slightly. Standard wheels for E63 are 19 inches, for E63S - 20 inches and all AMG versions will have four exhaust pipes under the rear bumper. Whether such a car is needed in everyday life can be judged after the start of sales, but judging by the success of the charged eschki of the previous generation, there are enough supporters of hyperactive family vacations with a decent budget.

A week before the official premiere in Detroit, the first photo of the updated Mercedes E63 AMG 2014 (W212) sedan appeared on the network, and on January 10, the German automaker officially introduced another novelty, both in the sedan and station wagon.

Like other restyled "yeshki", the charged version lost its two-section head optics, having received one-piece headlight blocks. Also, the car got a different radiator grille with a double rib and a large Mercedes emblem on it.

Options and prices Mercedes E63 AMG 2015

The E63 AMG 2015 (W212) version differs from the usual sedan in a different front bumper with a splitter and large side air intakes connected by a slot. Also, the car sports a small spoiler on the trunk lid, door sills, a diffuser in the rear bumper and four trapezoidal exhaust pipes.

Compared to its predecessor, the new interior can be distinguished by a new instrument panel and steering wheel, as well as a redesigned center console with a clock between the ventilation deflectors. Characteristic features of the sports modification are metal pedals and rich finishes.

Under the hood of the updated Mercedes E63 AMG (2014-2015) there is an upgraded 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, which now produces 557 hp. against the previous 525, and the maximum torque is 720 Nm. The engine is mated to a 7-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT automatic transmission with four modes of operation.

From zero to hundreds, the sedan accelerates in 4.2 seconds (0.1 seconds faster than the pre-styling version). But from now on, the E63 AMG W212 can be ordered with the proprietary 4MATIC all-wheel drive system. This version is gaining 100 km / h from a standstill in just 3.7 seconds.

But that's not all. Now the line has a version with the prefix S-Model. Such a car is offered only with all-wheel drive and is distinguished by the presence of a rear differential lock, as well as an engine boosted to 585 horses and 800 Nm.

The top Mercedes E63 AMG 4MATIC S-Model picks up a hundred from a standstill in 3.6 seconds, but the maximum speed of all versions is the same - the electronic limiter is triggered at around 250 km / h.

Externally, you can distinguish the S-Model modification by ten-spoke 19-inch rims on tires measuring 255 / 35R19 in front and 285 / 30R19 in the rear, as well as a chrome splitter and rear trim. On regular versions, these elements are painted in body color.

Optionally for the Mercedes E63 AMG 2015, powerful ceramic brakes with perforated discs with a diameter of 360 mm and silver calipers for the regular version, or red for the S-Model are offered.

In Russia, the price of the new Mercedes E63 AMG 2015 is 5,790,000 rubles, and its all-wheel drive modification is estimated at 6,290,000 rubles.

Turn Dynamic Select to Race mode, shift the box to manual mode, turn off the ESP, p-pull on the paddles, confirm the command with the right. Congratulations, you've entered Drift Mode and turned your 4WD Mercedes-AMG E 63 S 4Matic+ into a rear wheel drive car.

It's truly rear wheel drive, not a Ford Focus RS that just puts more power to the rear axle. The car now sends 612 forces and 850 Nm only to the rear wheels. Without traction control.

Of course, you won't need it. Unless you're going to fill the pages of a magazine with photos of smoking tires or trying to be a drift hero. In this case, a terrible shame and a huge repair bill will invariably follow the phrase: “Look how I can ...” Better show off on words, people.

So, you don't need it, but it's important. Don't see the logic? Wait. As far as I know, no one has yet designed a four-wheel drive sedan that can be converted to rear-wheel drive at the push of a button (or buttons). The E 63 S is the first and has a wide range of talents beyond that. And the competitors? This is a stone in the direction of the Audi RS6 and BMW M5, and in general an application for sole leadership. If the system is good, of course.

Tobias Moers, head of AMG, believes that the new E 63 models “represent the biggest step forward we have ever taken from one generation to the next.” Notice he says "models". There are two of them: E 63 and more expensive and advanced E 63 S (the one I rode). The extra charge is not only for extra forces and Newton meters. The Eski has more brake (390mm front if regular and 402mm if carbon-ceramic), Track Pace app, dynamic engine mounts, and an electronically controlled rear diff instead of a mechanical self-block. And then there's Drift Mode...

Axel Seilkopf, chief minder of the E 63, says what they have changed. Much, mainly in order for the motor to develop 850 Nm, as marketers ordered. The old box was also only rated for 700 Nm. Pistons, turbines, brakes - all new or reinforced. And the “S” turned out from the less powerful E 63 is not a simple reconfiguration of the brain. It has lightweight pistons, other air intakes, an intercooler. And most importantly - a pair of dual-flow turbines that increase traction at low revs.

In the box - “wet” clutches instead of a torque converter so that you can start with slippage - the oil cools. And the multi-plate clutch distributes torque along the axes, it is compact and can send all 850 Nm forward or backward.

And here I am at the race track in Portimão, following the legend - Bernd Schneider, who drives the AMG GT S. I can't go through the corners as fast as he does. The E 63 S weighs 1880 kg, only 35 kg more than the old rear wheel drive car (commendable!). But still it is a large mass, and the center of gravity is higher. The carbon-ceramics don't overheat, the 265/35 ZR20 front tires (295/30 ZR20 - rear) grip superbly and don't let the front end slip, and the steering is precise and reliable. Not very sensitive, but the variable tension bar is not annoying, although I usually hate that.

But the most relish begins after the apex, when you let the moment go to all wheels. This is magic. Partly thanks to the motor, which sounds magical and delivers exuberant traction, but the main thing is what the chassis of the new E 63 does with that traction. The Audi RS6 would blow the nose, but the Mercedes behaves more like a rear wheel drive. First, a portion of the moment goes to the rear axle, aligns the car, collects, and then the power moves forward to clean up the trajectory. And all four wheels work, pull in the same direction.

Of course, it all happens in a fraction of a second and feels like a smooth, uninterrupted and natural d-motion, but it's amazing. Auto-mobility is not only fast and efficient, but also fun.

The type of shield is customizable. You can put separate dials for the speedometer and tachometer

Turbines stand in the collapse of the blocks for quick response and environmental friendliness

Behind the beautiful discs are carbon ceramics. The dynamics are just incredible.

If you step on the gas too sharply or too early, you will beautifully exit the turn in drifting. Quite a bit, leaving the stern, but this is enough to feel like a hero. Even when the traction control is off, you need to accelerate a lot to get into a full spinning skid. Unless you turn off the four-wheel drive... A good stomp on the pedal will blow your ass off so you can't get it back. This n-occurs instantly. But at higher speeds, the car is incredibly controlled and incredibly high. Unless you pay your tire bills, of course.

Still, the E 63 is not a track car, and it proved it. The dawn of the next morning we meet on the N2 - it's a fantastic road, endlessly winding back and forth, sometimes diluted with short sprint straights in third or fourth gear. On it, the sedan is more impressive than on the track. I expected it to be cumbersome and cranky, but no - it's amazingly accurate and efficient. Once again, the all-wheel drive system turns the car into an athlete with effortless movements. Body control is so excellent. And this motor...

Opponent - BMW M5
More comfortable and relaxing than the E 63, but not as cool

I wondered if the 4.0-liter engine would be suffocated compared to the old 5.5-liter twin-turbo, because the mass of the car is greater. I thought there would be a turbo lag, there would be no traction from the bottom. Nothing like this. This engine is the future of Mercedes-AMG. They've invested heavily in the development that's still going on, and here's the result - a kickass, powerful V8. At medium revs, the thrust is simply endless, the motor rams the limiter at 7000 rpm if you are late with the switch, and roars delightfully in your ears. Even by the standards of a high-end super sedan, this is crazy stuff.

The steering and brakes are a little lacking in feeling, but the responses to commands are always predictable and reliable, which feeds the pilot's confidence. I was more impressed with the box, although I've never been a fan of the MCT trans-mission - the shifts are crisp, instant, bright, they make every acceleration very alive.

The engine roars, the wheels grip, and the E 63 S shoots so hard and fast it makes you want to do it over and over again. It's more fun than the M5 or RS6. Doubt? Yes, I'm surprised how aggressive he is. On a winding highway, you can fall under its spell and get addicted. If the BMW M5 feels plush and comfortable, sinking you into deep seats, the Mercedes won't let you relax. Buckets are hard with thin pads. The ride is hard and the tires are loud.

But you can take softer pillows and drive the E 63 to work. The engine and transmission will take it easy, and you will quickly get used to the road noise. And the salon is great. The quality of the carbon fiber is just exceptional, the fit is the most comfortable and there are more gadgets than you can use. The feeling of high cost does not leave. I doubt only about the dual screen and control with touch panels on the steering wheel. This is nonsense, and E 63 does not need it. What about Driver Assist systems? They seem completely out of place. Semi-autonomous AMG? No thanks, I prefer to drive it myself.

The new Mercedes-AMG E 63 2017-2018 - photos and videos, price and equipment, technical specifications of the Mercedes-AMG E63, the top version of the sedan. The world premiere of the flagship of the new E-class, the fantastically powerful and expensive Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG, is planned as part of the exhibition, where visitors to the exhibition will have the opportunity to get acquainted with two versions of the new product at once - the 571-horsepower Mercedes-AMG E63 4MATIC + and the 612-horsepower Mercedes-AMG E63 S4MATIC+. Sales of the new Mercedes-AMG E 63 in the European market will start in January 2017 at price from 109,000 euros, and in Russia the novelty will appear at the very beginning of next spring.

Perhaps it makes no sense to describe the appearance of the new generation of the Mercedes-AMG E 63 sedan. The flagship version of the new E-class, of course, looks bright, aggressive and sporty, as befits a powerful sports sedan, and stands out not only against the background of conventional Mercedes- Benz E-Class W213, but it also looks much more charismatic than 401-horsepower.

Of course, there are external differences, and where without them, especially with an eye to the ability to accelerate to 300 km, and this is with the AMG Driver's package (the standard electronic speed limiter works at 250 mph). Rumor has it that, if desired, you can completely remove the electronic collar and then ... on the factory track, the testers managed to overclock the Mercedes-AMG E63 S 4MATIC + to 335 mph.

So the top versions of the E63 4MATIC + and E63 S 4MATIC + from Mercedes-AMG are standardly equipped with original false radiator grilles and bumpers with huge air intakes, black rear-view mirror housings and a spoiler on the trunk lids.

  • The Mercedes-AMG E63 4MATIC+ comes standard with 19-inch titanium gray 10-spoke alloy wheels with 265/35 ZR 19 tires on the front axle, 295/30 ZR 19 tires on the rear axle.
  • The more powerful Mercedes-AMG E63 S 4MATIC+ comes standard with 20-inch 5-twin-spoke titanium gray matte wheels with 265/35 ZR 20 front tires and 295/30 ZR 20 tires.

We just want to say a few words about the five-seater interior of the novelty, made in full accordance with the principles of the premium class of the European E-class, where the Mercedes-AMG sports sedan will rule the roost.

There are a pair of color 12.3-inch color displays from LG (virtual dashboard, multimedia complex), Burmester audio system, AMG front sports seats, leather trim (genuine and artificial leather, Nappa, Alcantara), carbon and aluminum, background LED interior lighting and a huge set of ultra-modern equipment that ensures the safety, comfort and entertainment of the driver and his companions.

Specifications new Mercedes-AMG E 63 2017-2018.
By default, the novelty is equipped with an advanced 4Matic + all-wheel drive system, but a powerful “esca” will additionally please with the presence of a drift mode (allows you to transfer up to 100% of torque to the rear wheels), a gasoline V8 BITURBO with a half-cylinder deactivation system (AMG Cylinder Management), created on the basis of automatic transmission 9G-Tronic special reinforced 9-speed AMG Speedshift MCT transmission with wet clutch, air suspension, DYNAMIC SELECT system, which allows you to change the characteristics of the engine and gearbox, suspension and steering with five modes (Individual, Comfort, Sport, Sport Plus and Race), reinforced brakes.
Mercedes-AMG E63 4MATIC + is equipped with a petrol 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 (571 hp 750 Nm). Acceleration dynamics from 0 to 100 mph in 3.5 seconds, top speed 250 mph (with AMG Driver's package 300 mph).
Mercedes-AMG E63 S 4MATIC + with a petrol 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 (612 hp 850 Nm) accelerates to 100 mph in 3.4 seconds, a top speed of 250 mph can be increased to 300 mph with the optional AMG Driver's package.
The fuel consumption declared by the manufacturer of 9.2-8.9 liters per hundred in the combined driving mode seems simply ridiculous for a car with powerful eight-cylinder engines.

Mercedes-AMG E 63 2017-2018 video test

Oh, this eternal debate about the best drive for powerful machines. Rationalists cheer for the full, purists defend the back, and the mentally ill prefer the front. For some reason, manufacturers do not take the latter seriously, so any sports car with a capacity of several hundred forces has a cardan. A cool thing - it allows you to famously take turns, effectively rush sideways and, finally, burn rubber on the spot. But when it comes to fast seconds - especially in the hands of a kettle or during the vagaries of the weather - a more complex design is needed. Although many petrolheads believe that four-wheel drive is more boring. How to please everyone?

The answer lay on the surface: why not combine both options in one? Mercedes-Benz did just that, allowing the new E63 S 4Matic+ to turn into a zwei-matic for a while. You no longer have to choose the type of drive, as in the previous generation of "super-eschki" - it is enough to agree to the top version of the new E63 with the letter S. There is more strength and a unique two-faced driving.

The rims look especially cool in polished silver. Perhaps no amount of tuning wheels will make the E63 look even better

On the one hand, you don't have to worry about the snow under the wheels or the lap time - advanced all-wheel drive takes on some of the fine work. On the other hand, he activated a special drift mode - and you have fun without restrictions, only turning, but not turning the wheels of the front axle. It turned out to be something like an off-road part-time plug-in, just the opposite: an automatic 4x4 circuit is intended for normal driving, and a mono-drive mode is for special fun. This is the main idea of the E63 S version: one single car with several different characters. All in order to keep the old audience (giving it even more than before) and attract a new one. For example, northerners.

And do you know why this 612-horsepower monster from behind looks so that at dusk I confused it with the C 180? Because not only “golden” students burn tires in front of their native faculty, but also their successful fathers go to business meetings. Others buy a charged "yeshka" as a "gran turismo". Today you are tolerably rushing along your native destinations towards the German autobahns, and tomorrow you are already “driving” with a nimble sports car on the meanders of the French Alps. After all, an enthusiast is inherent in the occasion to pump a skill on a race track. Behind the wheel of the same E63 AMG S, which will not beg for mercy after a couple of laps.

But wasn't the predecessor the same?

There is no longer the original “eyemjish” machine selector in the center of the console. The AMG button has also disappeared, replaced by the Individual preset.

Tekhlikbez

The same name, close power in the region of six hundred “horses”, V8 biturbo, automatic with petals and Race Start function, all-wheel drive. At first glance, everything is the same, but in fact it is a completely different car. The points.

Platform. The new E63 AMG is made on the basis of the fresh E-class of the W213 generation. This means that it has its own body, an ultra-modern interior with all the innovations such as a double front panel monitor taken in a single glass and touchpads on the steering wheel spokes, as well as a full set of highly intelligent electronics. For example, the autopilot can stay in a lane for a long time without hands on the steering wheel, change lanes and do many other things that are inappropriate for a super sedan.

Engine. Over the past seven years, the name E63 for the most powerful “yeshki” has remained unchanged, but under the hood, three different engines have replaced each other. General trend: less volume, more power. In 2009 it was a naturally aspirated 6.2 M156, in 2011 it was a 5.5 biturbo with the M157 index, and now it is a 4-liter M178 engine with two twin-scroll superchargers. The peak power of the S version is as much as 612 forces against 585 for the most fierce E63 of the previous generation.

In the “regular” E63, there are only 571 hp / 750 N∙m versus 612 / 850 for the S. This is because the top version of the turbine blows with an excess of 1.5 bar versus 1.3. The younger one is 0.1 s slower, 5 kg lighter and lacks a drift program

Transmission. In principle, this is still the same AMG Speedshift MCT unit with a wet multi-plate clutch instead of a torque converter, launch control and regassing functions. But now in this box there are not 7 gears, but 9, as well as a completely new electronically controlled power take-off unit for the front axle.

Drive unit. This is the most interesting. The E63 had four-wheel drive in the last generation, but based on a differential scheme with a constant distribution of 33 to 67. In the same car, a multi-plate power take-off clutch that constantly changes the thrust distribution from 50/50 to 0/100 in favor of the rear axle. This means that smarter four-wheel drive adapts traction to road conditions in real time, and also promises a wild drift on a 612-horsepower sedan!

Start from the "launch" is accompanied by a visual effect - when ready, the tidy pulses red

Drift for everyone and everyone?

Do not consider it vulgar, but it is difficult to describe it more precisely. Excitement before the first drift - like before the first thereby date. How to accomplish the task is clear only in general terms. There are cars that are not designed for the first time. And there are those that will prompt and push, and now you are already handsome, man. What category does the monstrous E63 S fall into? I don't know. Mercedes programmatically blocked Drift Mode for the duration of the presentation, so that someone would not drift into the Portuguese vineyards! Hints?

But guesses are guesses, but you need to check. Twilight, an empty Algarve paddock, FIA GT3 factory driver Jan Seyfarth is preparing to commit a small official crime. Turns on the Race program, turns off the stabilization, the box is in manual mode, both petals are on themselves. The Drift Mode icon lights up on the dash, and the 4WD clutch prepares to rest. Writing out "bagels" of a huge radius around the site, the pros do not particularly strain with the control of the super sedan. I guess I wouldn't stress too much either.

Stabilization can be turned on, off and limited. But drifting on all-wheel drive will not work in any case - the front axle will drag the car out

But what if you try to distribute sideways not on the site, but in tighter turns or turns? Won't the E63 S wrap itself around the first tree and plow the first flower bed? Alas, there was no way to check the possibilities, but all the introductory points point to a drift that is accessible even for dummies. Precise accelerator, understandable “short” steering wheel, smooth twin-scroll traction without jumps. And even the implantation of all-wheel drive, according to the engineers, did not affect the angle of rotation of the front wheels! Looking forward to the next, less formal meeting with the car.

Track sofa

Fortunately, there were no stupid restrictions on the race track. DTM legend Berndt Schneider is up front in the AMG GT S coach coupe, and he doesn't like it when people try to "warm" him from behind. Therefore, the champion increases the pace: from about walking to Nordic walking. But for us, this is driving to the limit. It's amazing how comfortable these 1,880 kilograms (not including the driver) feel on the treacherous circuit of the Algarve!

Four-wheel drive constantly changes the distribution of traction: for example, in tight studs, almost all the moment is behind, so that the front can hook and turn, and when the steering wheel is released during acceleration, the traction moves forward to increase stability

From bunch to bunch, collapsing from the descents and soaring up the climbs, the E63 S demonstrates not only dynamics, but also stability and tenacity. Despite the fact that this is not the first task of the "sixty-third yoshka", she rides quickly and with pleasure along the track. And, importantly - without health complaints: six E63 S withstood a couple of hours of continuous sessions on the circuit! The steering wheel is short and sensitive, you don’t remember rolls, and stabilization stops traction so delicately that you won’t notice it every time without a blinking icon on the tidy.

This super sedan is very understandable in the limit, especially if you do not get greedy with entry speed and navigate the built-in driving modes. Comfort, sports and sports + leave for ordinary (and not so) roads. On the track we need Race, and not just because of the name. At first I drove in S + and could not keep the right pace - understeer and stabilization system interfered. Switching to Race, which weakens the “stub” and gives maximum rear-wheel drive and sharpness, I stopped smearing the inputs and “blunting” the outputs - a special calibration of everything and everything allowed me to keep up, but already lead in the same group of pilots.

But no matter how cool the E63 S turns, on the straights its strength is even more convincing. Only 3.4 seconds to the first hundred, and the emotions from acceleration do not dull even after 200! The feeling of Race Start is incredible. In any mode, except for “comfort”, you pressed two pedals, if desired, corrected the speed with the petals, released the brake - and the teleport is at your service. In the previous E63, this was a ritual, the description of the procedure of which would take another whole paragraph. It is a pity that the maximum speed is limited to 300 km / h, and even then with a special AMG Driver's package. However, the tuners will only be happy - the more contrasting the indicators that they can achieve will look.

The sound of the engine itself is a little far-fetched, as it is artificially amplified, but the exhaust is bubbling, albeit quietly, but in a bass voice - in the style of AMG compressors of the recent past. The exhaust system has 3 flaps that adjust the volume and tone in steps depending on the selected driving program. But you can always let the E63 S clear your throat by pressing a special key - in a rare tunnel you will forget to do this! For long-distance travel, the “super-yeshka” is acoustically comfortable, as well as acceptable in terms of suspension in the softest mode of operation of the pneumatic elements.

Who needs all this?

Anyone who buys a Mercedes-AMG E63 S can afford several cars. Just like anyone is able to purchase a voice recorder, a camera and a mobile phone with a keyboard that lasts a week. But in the pocket of the majority, the notorious smartphone is still in it, which does everything at once and sits down in a couple of days. For the same reason, the insane E-class is also chosen, only at a different level of consumption. This is convenient, albeit to some extent a compromise. But many do not need more - few people make money from photography, but everyone wants to take pictures on vacation. Few race in the Russian Drift Series, but most owners of fast cars like to rock out on the desert road.

Supersedan owners are not professional racers and don't want to look unconvincing for their money. You need to press - go. Hence the four-wheel drive, and this friendly mode switch interface. Click - sport. Click - comfort. No need to change your driving style - the car changes it for you. Therefore, without all-wheel drive in the E63 S, nowhere: it’s a crime not to squeeze out the maximum dynamics, if this is the main thing in the car. And this is the whole point of the E63 S - the Mercedes managed to make a car that whispers convincingly to the owner: old man, you are special, you are very fast. At the same time, even really fast guys will not get bored behind this wheel.
