BMW m5 black. BMW M5 E60: one of the fastest sedans in the world

20.10.2019

Last year, the Bavarian manufacturer introduced the G30 body, and a year later, a sports version, the M5 F90, was presented at the Frankfurt exhibition. This is a completely new car that has created a revolution for this series of sports cars, as a passenger car for the first time all-wheel drive.

The new car is completely different from the previous generation, it is not difficult to distinguish it from the civilian version. The car belongs to the E-class, it can give a feeling of comfort, it can be used for normal driving, while driving according to the mood. This is a legendary series of cars and we are sure that the new version will also go down in history.

New design

Appearance, as befits this series, is very similar to, but still some unique details are present. You can distinguish the BMW M5 2018-2019 by a different hood, more aggressive bumpers, a spoiler and exhaust pipes. Now more about appearance.

There are many differences from the previous version, but the overall new style remains. The muzzle has acquired a new narrow head optics equipped with LED elements. On the hood, there are embossed lines in the middle, creating a small hump. In the middle of the muzzle there is a branded radiator grille with chrome trim. The new bumper immediately makes it clear that you have a powerful sports car in front of you, as the air intakes with radiators are impressive.

The sidewall of the BMW M5 is very reminiscent of its predecessor, but there are notes of modernity and uniqueness. Here is a deep stamping line at the top, connecting to a small gill, which in turn has a chrome insert. The wheel arch extensions are small, the stamping at the bottom too, since it is not necessary to make a very defiant design, buyers and the manufacturer do not want this.

At the back, we got a corporate identity, the headlights roughly resemble their predecessor, but the shape has been slightly corrected. A small wing appeared on the trunk lid. The bumper has a slightly different shape, narrow vertical reflectors and 4 huge exhaust pipes that make a great sound.

New, increased dimensions of the sedan:

  • length - 4965 mm;
  • width - 1903 mm;
  • height - 1473 mm;
  • wheelbase - 2982 mm;
  • clearance - 132 mm;
  • disc size - R19.

Salon BMW M5

Also, the changes affected the interior of the car, the overall style has been preserved and there are a lot of similarities. Everything is about the same, but everything is slightly changed. As before, high-quality materials are used here in the form of leather, chrome inserts and a small amount of Alcantara. It's all going great, there are no complaints about the assembly.

We sit in the car and understand that the seats are simply gorgeous, it’s comfortable to sit, the seats are soft, you feel how the adjustable lateral support envelops you. That is, the seats are sports, but at the same time, with a quiet ride, they remain comfortable. Behind the usual sofa, like the civilian version, it is equipped with heating, an armrest and is quite comfortable. Armchairs are trimmed with leather Merivo BMW Individual, it is possible to choose the color of the material, white looks good.

The following upholstery colors are available:

  • Caramel (beige);
  • White smoke (white);
  • Tartufo (brown).

The steering wheel in the new generation has changed slightly, you immediately pay attention to the additional red petals. The shape has also changed, and specifically the notches for the thumbs. Otherwise, it remained the same, with the same buttons and style. The instrument panel has been completely redesigned. The manufacturer got rid of the wells, leaving only a thin chrome frame, the sensors are imitated by the display.

The center console of the BMW M5 has been corrected, it differs from the civilian version. A 20-inch display for the BMW ConnectedDrive entertainment system is installed. Any information can be displayed on it, including turbine boost data. Everything that is located below, namely the separate climate control tuning unit, remained unchanged, even from the previous generation there are few differences.

There are quite a few innovations on the dividing tunnel. Of course, there are boxes with cup holders, but we are more interested in the gearshift lever and everything that is nearby. The selector itself received a slightly different shape with a red border. To the left are the buttons for controlling shock absorbers, steering and disabling the stabilization system. Thus, you can make the BMW M5 2018-2019 steering wheel sporty, and the rest normal. On the right is a large media control puck.

As you know, the Bavarians made an exhaust sound system into the cabin through speakers. By ordering a proprietary M Sport exhaust system, the Sound Control button appeared in the interior, reducing exhaust noise for a more comfortable ride.

The luggage compartment is exactly the same as that of the civilian model - 530 liters. The interior and trunk are excellent, it allows you to use the model as an everyday one and drive according to your mood.

Specifications

The most interesting thing for fans is definitely the new BMW M5 engine. In principle, this is the same engine, but quite heavily redesigned. It's a twin-scroll V8 with 600 horsepower and 750 torque. Discerning fans were upset, as the previous body had a limited version of the Competition Edition, which produced the same number of horses.

The crankshaft of the motor was reinforced, and the pistons with connecting rods were also reinforced. The engine is paired with an 8-speed M Steptronic automatic transmission equipped with Drivelogic. Thus, we get a box with functions for choosing various behavior modes: Sport, Sport + and so on. As a result, it turned out to achieve acceleration to hundreds in 3.4 seconds, 11.1 seconds to 200 km / h. The dynamics are chic, one of the main competitors has the same, let's see who will be faster in fact.

Four-wheel drive

The most important innovation in this car is the installation of a proprietary all-wheel drive system, but modified for this car. Four-wheel drive received an active differential, the task of which is to distribute the forces on the wheels, analyzing the behavior of the car, pressing the gas or brake pedal, the surface under each wheel, and so on.

By default, the 4WD system is enabled, which implies all-wheel drive with torque transfer mainly to the rear axle. There is a 4WD Sport function with a separate M Dynamic Mode system, handling increases significantly and it is possible to enter a turn on the BMW M5 2018-2019 with a slight drift of the rear axle. Drift lovers are provided with a 2WD system that disables the stabilization system and you can enjoy a fully rear-wheel drive car.

Also, Bavarian engineers installed a new carbon-ceramic braking system here. This is an optional pleasure, characterized by lighter weight, better braking and higher reliability. It is very easy to distinguish them from the usual ones - the calipers are painted in golden color with the M-series corporate logo.

The suspension of the car is based on the CLAR platform and is independent. At the front, the car is on 2 levers, and at the back there is a five-lever scheme. All this is still equipped with adaptive dampers, which can be adjusted with a button from the passenger compartment. Here everything is made tougher, the anti-roll bars are thicker and there are adaptive shock absorbers, which distinguishes this suspension from the civilian one.

The price of the new BMW M5

This model is not yet available to Russian buyers. At home, the car is already being sold for at least 117,000 euros, which is more than 8 million rubles. It is quite expensive, and more than competitors. In the basic configuration, the car has:

  • 19 luxury wheels;
  • heated seats;
  • separate climate control;
  • LED headlights;
  • leather upholstery;
  • chic music;
  • 6 airbags;
  • various racing riding systems and many interesting equipment.

There are also various options, such as leather color or a different exhaust system. The result was a chic car BMW M5 F90, which caused a huge sensation in the auto world and will continue to direct it. As one of the main competitors of AMG and RS, it will exist and so far none of them has pulled ahead much.

The BMW M5 is a super-powerful and high-speed version of the 5 series. In the late seventies, the legendary BMW M1 was developed, a 277-horsepower machine with a 3.5-liter six-cylinder in-line engine and four valves per cylinder. In the 1980s, BMW took this concept to series production and the M5 was born.

At that time, BMW Motorsport GmbH was still independent and, for those who wished, specialists from Garching "charged" serial BMW sedans of the fifth series with more powerful engines, while modifying the suspension and brakes. This is how the then rare BMW 533i and 535i cars were born. One such car was the 1979-1980 M535i, which had a 218 hp 3.5 liter 735i 6-cylinder engine. Approximately the same engine (M30 with a volume of 3.4 liters, but also with 218 hp) appeared in 1984 under the hood of the standard “five” E28 535i, so the exclusivity temporarily disappeared.

But in the same year, the M5 sports model debuted on the basis of the same E28 “five”, equipped with a modified engine from the legendary M1 - R6 with 4 valves per cylinder and a displacement of 3453 cm3 - 286 hp. at 6500 rpm and 340 Nm at 4500 rpm, which at that time was one of the highest results for conventional passenger car engines. The maximum speed reached 245 km / h. On high-speed M5 models, integral-type structures with developed spoilers and painted to match the body color appeared. This was the first BMW M5, a business-class sedan with the heart of a supercar, the production of which, before being discontinued in 1987, amounted to 2241 copies.

ABS has been standard on the 535i/M535i/M5 since 1985 and is available as an option on all models. Most 535 models (except those equipped with automatic transmission) have an anti-slip system (limited slip differential) with a coefficient of 0.25.

The top model of the M5 sedan with a 3.5-liter engine (315 hp) and a fuel tank increased to 90 liters appeared in January 1989 and immediately gained popularity among those who like to ride with the breeze. Equipped with a five-speed manual gearbox, traction control and tires of 235/45 ZR17 front and 255/40 ZR17 rear, it has become the most dynamic in its class (acceleration to hundreds in 6.3 s, the company limited the maximum speed to 250 km / h). In April 1992, this engine was replaced by a more powerful 3.8-liter 327-horsepower, and a month later its 340-horsepower version of the M5 appeared. "Emki" are distinguished by great appetite in urban traffic (up to 18 l / 100 km), and when buying, it is recommended to carefully check the condition and wear of the complex customizable rigid suspension and forced engines. As standard, all cars were equipped with brake boosters. In May 1990, the production of 520i 24V, 525i 24V sedans began with 24-valve cylinder heads, which made it possible to remove 150 and 192 hp each.

Since October 1992, the M5 Touring station wagons, equipped with the same 340-horsepower inline six, have gone on sale. However, in 1995, along with the cessation of production of the "five" with the E34 body, they stopped assembling the BMW M5. Production from 1988 to 1995 amounted to 12254 cars.

The pause lasted more than three years. And finally, in the fall of 1998, the Motorsport GmbH branch, for the first time deviating from six-cylinder traditions, finally showed the world the most powerful 5-series sedan with an E39 body and a V-shaped "eight" of 400 hp. - own tuning version of the car 540i. So the glorious history of the “em-fifths” found a worthy continuation - after all, for the first time on a BMW production model, the engine power was 400 hp, and the dynamic qualities became even better than that of the M3 - 5.3 s to 100 km / h.

This M5 is equipped with a forced 4.9-liter V8 engine, structurally similar to the serial 4.4-liter unit. It is equipped with the Double-VANOS system (which, depending on the engine speed and load, smoothly changes not only the intake, but also the exhaust phases) and eight individual throttle valves. However, here they did not just increase the working volume of the cylinders from 4.4 to 4.9 liters and forced the engine in terms of compression ratio to 11.0. This required the use of oil cooling of forged pistons with oil jets from special sprayers, forged reinforced crankshaft and connecting rods, special three-layer all-metal head gaskets. The cooling system has been seriously improved - the channels in the block and heads have been optimized, and the pump is capable of pumping 380 liters of liquid per minute through the system at maximum engine speeds.

And the main technical highlight of this motor is the dry sump lubrication system, which uses one injection and two pumping oil pumps. But unlike similar lubrication systems on other supercars (for example, on the Porsche 911), it uses ... electronic control of the oil pumps! At high lateral accelerations (and the M5 is capable of developing a lateral overload of 1.2g on dry asphalt!) On a signal from the sensors of the DSC system, electromagnetic valves are triggered, and the evacuation pumps begin to take oil from the outer sides of the crankcase, where the oil can drain under the action of inertia forces.

The exhaust system - with two converters, in which the carriers of the catalytic layer are not ceramic honeycombs, as usual, but metal ones. And immediately after the converters, the exhaust gas flows from both rows of cylinders communicate with each other - this optimizes the pressure in the exhaust system and increases torque at low revs.

The gearbox is only a 6-speed manual, also almost standard - there are only a reinforced clutch, a “shorter” main pair and a limited-slip rear differential with a 25 percent lock. All this, together with tires (245/40 ZR18 front and 275/35 ZR18 rear) are perfectly matched to help the driver manage the powerful engine even with the DSC system disabled, which, along with other active safety systems, is standard equipment, as well as on standard fives. And there shouldn’t be any problems with electronics at all - it will insure against skidding caused by excess traction, and if you exceed the speed in a bend, it will help by “refueling” the car into a turn ...

The body is standard - the Bavarians claim that its rigidity is more than enough even for the increased dynamic qualities of the M5. In the aluminum front suspension, springs shortened by 15 mm and shock absorbers with different characteristics appeared. There are a little more changes in the rear suspension - lower levers from the 540 station wagon were put here, springs shortened by 10 mm and stiffer shock absorbers, and some of the rubber-metal joints were replaced with rigid ball joints.

The fourth generation of the “charged” BMW M5 Sedan (E60) began to roll off the assembly line in 2005. This generation was designed by Chris Bangle. The exterior mirror fairings have retained their traditional shape, and the fenders over the 19-inch wheels have become wider. It is impossible not to notice the large air intake and spoilers located on the apron of the BMW M5 Sedan. For the first time, small rifled "gills" appeared on the front fenders. In a cunning squint, the front bi-xenon headlights froze. As another confirmation of the sports pedigree, a dual muffler made using the Formula 1 technology looks out. The three-color "M" badge, out of habit, is located on the trunk lid. The color scheme includes three special shades - "sepang", "silverstone II" and "intergalos" (metallic bronze, silver and azure).

Interior design offers expensive leather trim, wood paneling. Flickering devices with eye-catching red arrows and white numbers are dressed in chrome rims. The "floating" zone of the tachometer is divided into a yellow warning zone and a red limiting zone. The white circular illumination is permanently on. Instrument readings are projected onto the windshield. Active seats provide comfort. The already well-known IDrive system is at the driver's disposal, as well as a CD player, a Hi-Fi Professional audio system and a TV screen.

The 8-cylinder engines were replaced by a 10-cylinder five-liter V10, capable of providing 507 hp. forces and torque of 520 Nm (at 8250 rpm). As for the speed indicators, the car is capable, having accelerated to “hundreds” in 4.7 seconds, to move at a maximum speed of 250 km / h (electronically limited).

The V10 is controlled by the Double VANOS system, which changes the exhaust and intake phases during changes in engine speed and load. The elements inherent in racing cars are the presence of individual cylinder throttles and the use of ion currents in spark plugs. This technology allows the electronics of the BMW M5 Sedan to almost instantly diagnose detonation in each individual cylinder.

Replaced not only the engine, but also the gearbox. It was the new 7-speed sequential SMG, which has the Drivelogic function. This function helps to select transmission programs. Gearshift speed increased by 20% compared to previous models. The drive is carried out on the rear wheels

The transmission and Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) are integrated with the engine management system, allowing them to interact seamlessly with each other. Built-in sensors sensitively monitor tire pressure. Dynamic stability control is carried out by the DSC system. Electronics is responsible for locking the rear differential, and EDC regulates the stiffness of the shock absorbers. With the task of managing all this complex filling of the BMW M5 Sedan, the Mdrive electronic interface helps to cope.

In 2007, the station wagon returned to the M5 lineup. The debut took place at the Geneva Motor Show. The luggage compartment is equipped with a semi-automatic curtain. Trunk volume varies from 500 to 1650 liters. An automatic luggage compartment lid is available as an option. The rear door glass can be opened separately. Tie-down straps on the sides, a bulky item pouch, multi-function switches, fold-down dividers and a set of under-floor storage compartments are all part of the package.

The fifth generation M5 (F10) was presented in September 2011 at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Once again, the management of the concern decided not to produce a “charged” station wagon, since sales of the previous generation in this body modification were low.

The car is built on the new F10 platform with a wheelbase of 2964 mm. The length of the body, compared with the previous generation, increased by 46 mm (up to 4910 mm), width - by 45 mm (up to 1891 mm), and the height decreased by 18 mm (up to 1451 mm).

The company commissioned the design of the fifth generation to Adrian van Hooydonk, who, having retained the features inherent in the model, brought out a new, more aggressive and daring appearance. The shape of the body has become more streamlined due to the angle of the front and rear pillars located under a sharper, compared to the previous version, angle. The branded "nostrils" of the radiator grille have become much larger, the headlights have acquired the shape of a spearhead. The front bumper has become more massive, it has a large oval central section of the air intake, as well as large rectangular side sections. The hood took on a different shape, which became wider, and a V-shaped relief outline appeared on it in the center. A relief line appeared on the sides of the body, running from air ducts stylized as “gills” to the ends of the rear lights. Increased in size side doors.

At the stern, L-shaped taillights with LED optics appeared, a trunk lid of a different shape. The central oval hole inherent in the previous generation disappeared from the lower part of the rear bumper, instead of which a trapezoidal diffuser appeared. From it, twin exhaust pipes are placed on both sides. The rear spoiler, located on the trunk lid, serves to optimize the car's aerodynamics.

The interior of the fifth generation M5 has also undergone changes. First of all, this concerns the dashboard, which received four, and not two, like the fourth generation, devices. In addition, now it is not connected to the center console with a set of visors. On the console itself, which has become wider, is the screen of the multimedia system.

The layout of the radio and climate control controls has changed - now the “music” is on top. The central tunnel has also been transformed, on which niches for small items and cup holders are placed. The multimedia system control joystick, which was previously located behind the gear selector, is now on the right, on the same level with it. The steering wheel has also become different, which has acquired a hexagonal hub and a denser rim.

The shape of the pillows and backs of the front seats has changed, the lateral and lumbar support has increased, and the knee bolster has acquired a rectangular shape. The increased dimensions of the body allowed the designers to create more space for rear row passengers. Here appeared a more comfortable sofa with an increased seat. Although it is stylistically divided into two seats, three adults can sit on it.

The basic package of options includes: 4-zone climate control, on-board computer, multifunctional steering wheel, satellite anti-theft system, full power accessories, cruise control, Start / Stop function. For an additional fee, you can order a power sunroof, a night vision system, comfortable keyless entry, a projection of instrument readings on the windshield and many other valuable options.

Compared to the previous generation, the BMW M5 2011 has improved dynamic performance. The model is equipped with a 4.4 liter gasoline engine with a capacity of 560 horsepower. It is paired with a 7-speed robotic transmission with two clutches (for the US market, the engine is paired with a 6-speed "mechanics"). The drive of the car is rear. From zero to hundreds of BMW M5 F10 accelerates in 4.4 seconds and its top speed is 250 km/h.

The BMW M5 is a “charged” all-wheel drive premium business class sedan (aka the “E” segment according to the European classification), created by the efforts of specialists from the sports division of the Bavarian brand “Motorsport GmbH” ... It is well suited for the role of a “family car” or “business car”. partner", however, if necessary, it is able to transform into a real "racing car" ...

The sixth “release” of the three-volume vehicle with the internal factory index “F90” was declassified on August 22, 2017 (as part of an online presentation), in September (in Frankfurt) its official debut took place ... and already in November, Russian dealers began accepting orders for it.

It’s worth noting right away that this sports sedan made a real revolution - for the first time in its “career” (and indeed among passenger cars in general) becoming all-wheel drive. In addition, as a result of another generational change, it has grown in size, received an increase in power and replenished its “armament” with a mass of modern equipment ... but first things first:

Outside, the sixth generation BMW M5 looks beautiful, assertive and truly thoroughbred, and aggressive bumpers, more “muscular” wings, large air intakes, a quartet of exhaust pipes and “rollers” with a dimension of 19 or 20 inches do not allow confusing it with the usual “fives” - in general, a traditional set for M-cars.

The length of the "eMka" with the internal marking "F90" extends to 4965 mm, reaches a height of 1473 mm, and does not exceed 1903 mm in width. The distance between the pairs of wheels of the car is 2982 mm, its ground clearance is 132 mm, and the size of the front and rear tracks is 1626 mm and 1595 mm, respectively. In the "marching" form, the four-door weighs 1930 kg.

In the cabin, the “charged” essence of the sixth generation BMW M5 is given out by a multifunctional M-steering wheel with embossed outlines and two red “spots” of the M1 and M2 keys, a stylish “machine” selector and sports front seats with pronounced sidewalls, dense padding and a set of electric adjustments.

For a surcharge, the car is entitled to even more “tenacious” seats with full electrification (including settings for side support rollers and backrest tilt).

Otherwise, this is still the same business sedan as the standard “five”, on the back sofa of which even three adult passengers can sit with a high level of comfort.

He has no problems with practicality either - the standard three-volume trunk “eats” up to 530 liters of luggage.

Under the hood of the BMW M5 F90 there is a 4.4-liter V-shaped petrol engine with direct fuel injection, a 32-valve timing, a reinforced crankshaft and a connecting rod-piston mechanism, two Twin Scroll turbochargers and an exhaust manifold inscribed in the collapse of the cylinder block. It generates 600 horsepower at 5600-6700 rpm and 750 Nm of torque at 1800-5600 rpm.

The “charged” tricycle is equipped with an 8-speed “automatic” and “M xDrive” all-wheel drive technology. By default, the entire traction reserve is supplied to the rear axle, and power is supplied to the front wheels, if necessary, through a multi-plate clutch (in addition, there is an active cross-axle differential at the rear, which allows up to 100% of torque to be directed to one of the wheels).
The car's transmission has five different configurations with a choice of three potential distribution options (4WD, 4WD Sport and 2WD) and a similar number of stabilization system algorithms (MDM, DSC and DSC off).

From standstill to 100 km / h, the sixth incarnation of the BMW M5 “ejects” after 3.4 seconds, and exchanges the third “hundred” after 11.1 seconds. The maximum four-door can reach 250 km / h (however, for a fee, the “electronic collar” can be moved up to 305 km / h).

Passport fuel consumption of a sports sedan does not exceed 10.5 liters per 100 km in mixed mode.

At the heart of this “eMki” is the CLAR modular architecture with independent suspensions “in a circle”: a two-lever system is installed in front, and a five-lever system in the rear (in the “base” - with adaptive shock absorbers, endowed with three modes of operation). It differs from the standard "brother" in the revised kinematics of the undercarriage, more rigid rubber compounds and thickened anti-roll bars.
The body of the car is cut from high-strength steels, the front fenders, doors, hood and luggage cover are made of aluminum, and the roof is made of carbon fiber.

The “charged” four-door boasts an adaptive electromechanical power steering integrated into the rack and pinion mechanism with variable tooth pitch. All German wheels are equipped with ventilated disc brakes (made of cast iron with aluminum hubs): six-piston calipers with a fixed caliper are used on the front axle, and single-piston calipers with a floating caliper are used in the rear. Carbon-ceramic brakes are available as an option.

On the Russian market, the BMW M5 with the F90 index is offered at a price of 6,700,000 rubles - this is how much they ask for a basic sedan, which is equipped with: six airbags, 19-inch wheels, a multimedia system, premium music, leather trim, dual-zone “climate”, heated and electrically adjustable front seats, fully LED optics, ESP, ABS, EBD and a huge number of other “goodies”.

For a car in the performance of "M Special" you will have to pay at least 7,800,000 rubles, and its signs are: four-zone climate control, 20-inch double-spoke rollers, wireless phone charging function, BMW Display Key interactive key, assistance system when parking, high-end audio system Harman Kardon Surround Sound and other options.

In addition, the car is also provided in a special version of the "First Edition" (its circulation is limited to 20 copies), which costs from 8,990,000 rubles. This four-door is finished in a unique Frosted Dark Red Metallic shade and has just about every possible equipment.

The new BMW M5 (F90) 2018-2019 was officially presented on August 21, 2017, almost a month before the world premiere as part of. In our review of the BMW M5 2018 - photos and videos, price and equipment, technical specifications of the 6th generation of a high-performance Bavarian sedan with a 600-horsepower turbo petrol engine, 8 automatic transmissions and an M xDrive all-wheel drive system. Acceptance of orders for the new generation BMW M5 in Germany opens in September 2017 at price from 117,900 euros for the BMW M5 as standard. The first buyers will see their cars, however, only next spring.

Also, in the spring of 2018, fans of the Bavarian brand will be offered 400 copies of the BMW M5 First Edition with bright accents in the design of the body (painting with Frozen Dark Red Metallic enamel, black exterior details and rims) and interior (Piano Finish Black inserts, M-seats with black insert, a plate with an individual number) at a price of 137,400 euros. The start of sales of the new generation BMW M5 in Russia will take place in the spring of next year, the price has not yet been announced, but, according to preliminary information, will be at least 8 million rubles.

The main attribute of the 6th generation of the BMW M5 (F90), of course, is the M xDrive all-wheel drive transmission with an electronically controlled active rear M-differential and a front-wheel drive deactivation function. Thus, we have the first passenger "emka" with an all-wheel drive system. This fact is not surprising, since it is problematic to realize the monstrous 600-horsepower power of the 4.4-liter petrol V8 M TwinPower Turbo without all-wheel drive, and the main competitors, both for selection with all-wheel drive, and.

Interestingly, by default, the new Bavarian "charged" BMW M5 sedan with all-wheel drive, but ... in M Dynamic Mode (tolerant mode of operation of the stabilization system with the ability to move in sliding), the electronics will switch the transmission to 4WD Sport mode with an emphasis on the rear wheels. With the ESP completely turned off, the driver has the right to choose one of the three proposed drive modes: standard, which ensures stable behavior of the car on the road - 4WD, sharper with an emphasis on the rear axle - 4WD Sport and reckless, hooligan and almost extreme, with an eye to 600 horses under hood, - 2WD.

So the new generation of the BMW M5 (F90), thanks to an advanced all-wheel drive system, can appeal to more motorists than with a drive exclusively on the rear wheels. "Charged" M5 can be both aggressive and flexible.

We will reveal all the technical aspects of the novelty. Under the hood of the new BMW M5 sedan is an upgraded V8 4.4 M TwinPower Turbo biturbo engine from the previous generation of the sedan with a capacity of 600 hp and 750 Nm of maximum torque, available already at 1800 rpm of the crankshaft. The upgraded engine boasts new turbochargers, increased injection pressure, more productive lubrication and engine cooling systems, a lightweight exhaust system, supplemented by Helmholtz resonators, which allow for a “terrible” exhaust voice at high speeds.

Transmission 8-speed automatic M Steptronic from conventional versions of the platform model, but with faster and softer gear changes, as well as torque converter lockup, which is switched off only when changing gears.

The mass of the new car in running order is only 1855 kg, and this despite the presence of an all-wheel drive transmission (the predecessor with rear-wheel drive is 15 kg heavier than -1870 kg). A carbon-fiber roof, previously available only for models and the BMW M6, a stamped aluminum hood and trunk lid, doors and front fenders, as well as a lithium-ion battery installed in the luggage compartment of a sedan ( helps to achieve better axle weight distribution).

Compared to the conventional versions of the new generation BMW 5-series, the “charged emka” has a wider front and rear wheel track, a different suspension kinematics with stiffer rubber compounds and thicker stabilizers. In the presence of adaptive shock absorbers with a choice of three settings, electric power steering with the same number of operating modes as the shock absorbers, standard installed compound brakes (cast iron discs and aluminum pads) with blue painted calipers (6 pistons in front and 1 piston rear). For a surcharge for the M5 sedan, carbon-ceramic brakes with gold-colored calipers are offered, reducing the car's unsprung weight by as much as 23 kg.

19-20 inch alloy wheels are used. The photo shows a sedan with the largest wheels, shod in Michelin Pilot Sport 275/35 ZR20 low-profile tires.

  • Such an advanced technical set provides the new BMW M5 sedan with excellent dynamic and speed characteristics: acceleration dynamics from 0 to 100 km / h in 3.4 seconds, from 0 to 200 km / h in 11.1 seconds, the maximum speed is electronically limited at the turn of 250 km / h (optional package M "Driver" s Package raises the bar for top speed to 305 mph).

Just a few words I would like to say about the appearance and interior of the new BMW M5 2018-2019 model year, presented with the F90 index. The body of the novelty is aggressive and brutal, as befits a powerful Bavarian. Front bumper with huge air intakes, LED headlights and taillights with LED three-dimensional pattern, original rear-view mirrors with stylish aerodynamic features, large wheel arches, door sills, trunk lid crowned with a spoiler, powerful body of the rear bumper with a neat diffuser and a pair twin exhaust tips.

The interior of the charged M5 as a whole is almost an exact copy of the interior of the usual versions of the BMW 5-series, but branded details, of course, are simply striking: the letter M on the body sills, the M-steering wheel with three spokes and two red buttons M1 and M2 (individual settings all electronics responsible for the drive), a stylish and comfortable automatic transmission control selector, sports M-seats for the driver and front passenger with a high back and developed lateral support.

The new BMW M5 Sedan (F90) is generously equipped. There is a digital instrument panel, an advanced ConnectedDrive multimedia system with a 12.25-inch screen, electric front seats with heating and ventilation (massage for an extra charge), leather trim, four-zone climate control, background LED interior lighting and other attributes of a premium car -class.

The new 2018-2019 BMW M5 could be distinguished from the standard “five” by its aggressive front bumper with large air intakes, a hump on the hood, air intakes in the front fenders, a spoiler on the trunk lid, as well as a different rear bumper with a diffuser and a quartet of round exhaust pipes.

In addition, the car is distinguished by original rear-view mirrors, widened fenders, a black carbon fiber roof, 19-inch Orbit Gray wheels (tire size 275/40R19 in front and 285/40R19 in the rear), behind which you can see blue high-performance brake calipers, as well as exclusive body color options.

In the cabin of the BMW M5 2018 in the new F90 body, sports seats are installed, a steering wheel with two red buttons "M1" and "M2" (individual settings can be programmed on them), another transmission selector, metal lining on the pedals and door sills, on the instrument panel another graphics with a speedometer marked up to 330 km / h, and Merino leather and carbon fiber inserts are used in interior decoration.

Specifications

Under the hood of the new BMW M5 F90 model, an upgraded 4.4-liter V8 twin-turbo was registered, the output of which was increased from 560 to 600 “horses” and 700 Nm of torque (in the range from 1,800 to 5,600 rpm). Unlike the previous unit, more efficient twin scroll turbochargers are installed here, boost pressure is increased to 350 bar, cooling and lubrication systems have been changed, plus a lightweight exhaust system with an adjustable valve for sound control.

Instead of the previous preselective “robot” (the mechanics that were offered in the States are no longer there), the engine is paired with an optimized ZF eight-speed automatic, as well as the M xDrive all-wheel drive system, which allows you to fully realize all the power and compete on equal terms with.

The company calls the new all-wheel drive system "the most emotionally attractive." It is equipped with an electronically controlled multi-plate clutch, lockable in the range of 0-100% (rear-wheel drive mode can be activated at the touch of a button), as well as an active rear M-differential. With the stabilization system completely disabled, three operating modes are available: 4WD, 4WD Sport and 2WD.

The new BMW M5 2018 takes 3.4 seconds to accelerate from zero to hundreds, which is 0.8 seconds at a time. faster than its predecessor, and the sedan takes the mark of 200 km / h after 11.1 s (- 1.9). Top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h by default, but with the optional M Driver's package, the collar will be relaxed to 305 km/h.

Later it appeared, the engine on which develops 625 forces and the same moment of 700 Nm, but available up to 5,800 rpm, and it travels up to a hundred in 3.3 seconds.

Many fans of this model were worried that the addition of all-wheel drive would make the "uh five" too heavy, but in the end the car weighs 1855 kg versus 1870, which is pulled on the scales. And if you fork out for expensive carbon-ceramic brakes, then the weight of the sedan can be reduced by another 23 kilos. By the way, in the base there are six-piston calipers in front and a floating bracket in the back.

The overall length of the BMW M5 2019 is 4,965 mm (+ 55), the wheelbase is 2,982 (+ 18), the width is 1,903 (+ 12), the height is 1,473 (+ 16). Ground clearance (clearance) increased to 132 millimeters (was 117). For an engine adapted to Euro-6, the average fuel consumption in the combined cycle is declared no more than 10.5 liters per hundred.

As part of the chassis - a double wishbone suspension is installed on the front of the sedan, and a multi-link design at the back. The base for the car includes three-mode adaptive dampers and a reconfigured electric power steering, which also has three modes. It is worth noting that the design has additional aluminum amplifiers in the front of the body and an X-shaped steel element to increase the strength of the rear axle, and the anti-roll bars have become stiffer.
