    Personal evolution

    Quote
    "Oddly enough, life becomes cloudless and clear precisely when selfish pleasures and personal success cease to guide a person. When a person dissolves into a transcendent goal - creating beautiful poetry or excellent furniture, exploring the movement of galaxies or caring for the happiness of a child - it becomes invulnerable for everyday fears and difficulties."

    What is this book about
    In the first two books - "Flow" and "In Search of the Flow" - the most cited psychologist of our time talks about the state of happiness, the flow into which a person plunges while doing what he loves. In this book, he outlines the ideal future. He says that the ecological, economic and relationship crises should be stopped by people living in a state of flow. The future of mankind is possible only if each individual develops and evolves. If a person can get rid of what pulls us back, and from destructive natural instincts and from the attempts of society, government and the media to impose their point of view on us. "The Evolution of Personality" is a book about the future of mankind.

    Why the book is worth reading

    Tester - This is a specialist who checks the serviceability, as well as the ease of operation of prototypes and new models of vehicles, various mechanisms and installations under the influence of various mechanical, electromagnetic, radiation and other types of loads. The profession is suitable for those who have no interest in school subjects (see choosing a profession for interest in school subjects).

    Only testers can fly without wings.

    During the tests, the professional not only notes all the advantages and disadvantages of the tested equipment, but also identifies the causes of their occurrence and suggests ways to eliminate them. The main task of the tester is to improve the prototype to the highest level in order to satisfy the taste of the most demanding consumers. The tester is the most important link in the design and production team, without which scientific and technological progress would be impossible.

    With the development of science and technology, technical means are constantly being improved: what literally yesterday was considered a brilliance and achievement of engineering thought is already outdated today. This is especially true for automotive technology.

    Absolutely all cars coming off the assembly line are tested. Not only the cars themselves are changing, but also the methodology for testing them, in the development of which the test drivers themselves also participate. Therefore, the profession of a tester was, is and will be in demand at all times.

    Vehicle testing takes place in several stages. At the first stage — acquaintance with the car, its device, primary running. After that, long-term tests for strength and reliability take place in a variety of road and weather conditions- off-road, cobblestone pavement, snow, sand, in rain, frost and heat.

    Features of the profession

    The functional responsibilities of the tester depend on the specific technical means that he is experiencing. So, for example, the duties of a test driver of cars include:

    • after leaving the assembly line of the car check complete set and conformity of documents;
    • checking for obvious defects;
    • study brake system car on the conveyor platform;
    • warming up the engine, primary running-in on a roller stand;
    • checking lighting equipment;
    • checking the engine on the gas analyzer and its adjustment;
    • study the stability of steering, acceleration and engine braking on the test track;
    • checking the car for knocks and noises on the cobblestone pavement;
    • research on the observation deck - checking for leaks, listening to the noise and knocks of the engine, brake drums.

    All detected faults are eliminated immediately on the spot with the help of controllers.

    Special automotive technology, in addition to the same standard tests, it is subjected to off-road trips to test reliability - in the mountains, deserts, forests, swamps.

    Where to study as a tester

    There are no special schools and universities for the training of testers. Experienced and responsible drivers and mechanics with more than 3 years of experience become testers. Not everyone can withstand the complexity of the tests, despite the fact that the testers also have special equipment to eliminate negative impacts - belts, bandages, helmets. The main direction of his work is the assessment of the handling properties and stability of cars. About 200 different technical means are studied annually.

    The Research Center for Testing and Refinement of Automotive Equipment (NITSIAMT) in Dmitrov is one of the largest in Europe. It consists of many departments: hydraulic testing department, laboratory passive safety, engine stand, wind tunnel, corrosion chamber, etc. The landfill area is 2500 ha, the length of special roads is 110 km. There are even mountain roads with different surfaces with a rise of 30-60 degrees.

    In the Magadan region, not far from the city of Susuman, there is a northern test site for testing cars in the north.

    The recently built test site in Tolyatti is the most modernized one, where the advantages of the foreign test sites of Opel, Porsche, FIAT, Volkswagen, etc. are recreated. Here it is possible to conduct all kinds of complex tests and work out new methods on high-speed, service, dynamometer roads and parabolic turns.

    To the anniversary of one of the leading experts in car handling

    Text: Alexander Ivanov
    Photo: From the archive of Evgeny Speransky

    Evgeny Speransky. The name of this person is in the imprint of our publication. Drive expert of the ORD magazine... Of course, it was a great impudence on my part to sign one of the leading Russian specialists in the field of handling as a test pilot, but, in essence, it was so... Having agreed to cooperate with ORD, Evgeny Borisovich not only initially asked very high level preparation of test materials, but also seriously helped all of us in a difficult period of formation (although it is not over yet). On August 30, Evgeny Borisovich had an anniversary - he turned 60 years old. Well, why not tell about the fate of an interesting person? Health, happiness to you, and long life.
    Off-Road DRIVE Editor-in-Chief
    Andrey KUPRIN

    Evgeny Borisovich Speransky was born in August 1945 in city near Moscow Dmitrov. His father was a military man and, after demobilization, he worked in the "party organs", and his mother taught physical education at school. Thanks to this, little Zhenya spent almost all his free time in the gym. Football, hockey, volleyball. Eugene's life developed like that of most of his peers of the first post-war generation. And at that time everyone was fond of technology ... At first there were bicycles, then bicycles with motors and, finally, the Moskvich-401 (training school car). By the age of less than thirteen, Zhenya led him quite confidently. next car became bought by the father "Victory" M-20. Huge travels were made on it - the Caucasus, Crimea. For the trip rolled on five thousand kilometers! And it was then that Zhenya first had a dream to connect his life with a car.

    50 walkers per day

    The construction of the Dmitrovsky automobile test site began in 1964. At that moment, Zhenya was just finishing school. But, despite the fact that in his pocket there were already driver's license and the “crust” of a car mechanic, getting to work at the main testing site of the country was not only very difficult, but almost unrealistic. In NICIAMT, employees were recruited exclusively by special distribution after receiving the appropriate education. I had to get a job as a driver of a ZIL-585 dump truck (popularly referred to as "Zakhar"), for quarry work. 50 walkers a day, of course, were exhausting, but they gave invaluable driving experience. Then there was the army. After three years of service, Speransky was demobilized as a first-class driver. Returning to the “citizenship”, he entered the institute (working as a driver of a watering machine and sorting out engines).

    Mountains can only be better...

    By a lucky chance, among Zhenya's acquaintances were students of the Moscow Higher Technical School, who invited him to the school of mountain travel ... From that moment, Speransky literally fell ill with the mountains. Later, Zhenya was very seriously engaged in rock climbing, performed at competitions, even went as an instructor in climbing in the Pamirs, Altai, the Urals and the Caucasus. True, along the way he mastered the bicycle and kayak ...

    Two main passions fought in his soul - mountains and cars. And only by chance the mountains did not take over ... When Evgeny met the athletes from the Dmitrovsky training ground, he was already the chairman of the board of the tourist club. And then an unexpected invitation to work as a rally team mechanic. At first there were republican competitions, then allied and, finally, a mechanic, and now the pilot Evgeny Speransky received own car- "Moskvich-412". For more than two years he has competed in various competitions. And then (as life happened) again the army. In military service, Evgeny Borisovich was busy preparing drivers all-wheel drive vehicles to movement in conditions ... off-road. And now attention: in those years in Soviet army no one has dealt with this problem yet! Initially, given his military specialty, he worked as a deputy technical officer of a tank company, and later became the commander of a service company.

    Speransky ended his military career as the head of the auto-tractor service of the regiment. After the army, Eugene returned to his native Dmitrovsky training ground. Studied driving tactics and driving technique. Yes, and constant training with masters of sports in road racing, no doubt, added experience.

    Governance sector

    And, finally, something happened that Evgeny dreamed of almost from childhood - the recognized ace Speransky Evgeny Borisovich came to work in the control sector of the country's most important auto training ground. But Speransky does not rest on this and continues to persistently improve his own skills. He studies various driving schools (both Russian and European). Travels around countries and continents, getting acquainted by the example of the most different cars(from small cars to road trains) with design features of modern steering controls and systems for stabilizing handling and stability. Evaluation of the properties of handling and stability of cars becomes his life's work. By the way, this is, perhaps, one of the most interesting and extreme directions in the work of the Dmitrovsky auto-polygon. A huge number of tested objects - up to two hundred pieces of equipment per year. And for each of the cars that passed through his hands, it is necessary to determine the stability margin and handling properties. Sometimes in one day you have to change several very different cars. In the morning - double sports coupe, and on the same evening - a 50-ton truck crane ... Yes, whatever one may say, the work of a car tester is, first of all, hard and monotonous daily work.

    For technical reasons

    The surprise factor is a constant companion of the work of any tester. Here, for example, is the last case: when testing for dynamic stability began to slip ... the surface layer of the tire. That is, the protector began to fly off in pieces! As a result, the car was simply pulled off the road. And, mind you, the defective tire was far from being made in Yaroslavl ... But what can I say - everything happened during the tests. bursting wheel disks, cross-wheel spacers were bent, poorly fixed batteries flew out on electric vehicles (and this is 800 kilograms of weight!), front bars were torn, timber trucks and tankers overturned. Yes, whatever one may say, but accidents at the test site are not uncommon, but, to the credit of the testers, most often they are still caused by technical reasons.

    P.S. I think that I was very lucky - I saw how Evgeny Borisovich works. One “but”: sitting in the passenger seat with a stopwatch in hand and fascinated looking at the movements of the hands of the master, you realize with particular acuteness that you will never be able to do this ...

    From the history of the Dmitrovsky auto-polygon

    The full name of the Dmitrovsky test site is the Research Center for Testing and Fine-Tuning Motor Vehicles. NICIAMT is the largest testing center in Europe, with an area of 2500 hectares and a length of special roads of 110 km. In 1958, a decree was signed on the construction of a test center, but the countdown is from 1964, that is, from the moment it was put into operation. fast track. In subsequent years, the site was constantly improved. A "mountain road" was built, roads from various types coatings, lifts (from 30 to 60 degrees). A hydraulic testing department, a motor bench, a corrosion chamber, a passive safety laboratory, a wind tunnel and much more work at the site. In 1989, the test site was separated from NAMI and transformed into an independent testing organization accredited under the European certification system.

    For a long time, one of the most popular professions that do not require special education is the profession of a driver. And since workers in this category are needed in absolutely different structures and directions, dozens of narrow profiles Occupation: taxi driver, driver public transport, driver trucks, driver-collector, personal driver and many others.

    The test driver must be deeply in the subject of the automotive industry. Understand engineering and machine design in order to make specific proposals based on the results of inspections and propose ways to eliminate the identified shortcomings.

You put on a protective suit and ... get behind the wheel of the newest Ferrari or Porsche, BMW, Mercedes. Imagine that you get a lot of money for being the first in the world to drive the most cool cars which are sometimes produced in limited editions. Introduced? Then read on.

    Where do test drivers start?

    There are no universal tips on how to be the first to get behind the wheel of a new supercar. In addition to nerves of steel, good health and skillful driving, you will need a lot of luck and risk, which, in the end, will fully satisfy your automotive enthusiasm.

    You won’t believe it, but all test drivers are not boys who have been raving about expensive cars since childhood, but adult men with higher technical education. Exactly! You'll be much more likely to get hired by an automaker if you have a college degree in mechanical engineering.

    The test driver must be able to squeeze more out of the car than the manufacturer expects, and therefore excellent knowledge of the materiel will be a plus when hiring. It is worth noting that many test drivers come to work after decades of working as mechanics in the garages of karting teams and Formula 1, where theory goes hand in hand with practice.

    There are also well-known cases when car sellers became test pilots, who are also well acquainted with their structure, well aware of their pros and cons.

    Key Responsibilities of a Test Driver

    Test pilots have as much responsibility on their shoulders as designers or engineers. The task of the test driver is to fully evaluate the quality of the car - from the volume of a click when opening the door, to the quality of the upholstery rear seat. But, of course, the main responsibility is to test the car at the site, where there is no speed limit. Despite the fact that a team of rescuers and doctors is on duty on the track, and the driver is dressed in a protective suit, troubles still happen. Do not think that the work of a test driver is safer than a test pilot. By the way, Yuri Alekseevich Gagarin, who was the first to fly into space, died during a training flight.

    How to find a job

    Finding a job as a test driver is no more difficult than any other job, because companies are interested in hiring employees and posting ads on the Internet. But you need to be ready for life "on suitcases", because different cars experience in different countries and different conditions.
