And questions about perspectives of BMW M7 invariably answered "No!". And then they freaked out and released this - the fastest five-meter piece of metal, carbon fiber, leather and wood, not only in the BMW line, but on this planet in general.

And yes - this is not a BMW M7 yet, but “only” a BMW M760Li xDrive. A car from the BMW M Performance line, which, as people from this Bavarian company like to explain, is somewhere in the middle between conventional models and thoroughbred "emks". And when asked about the real M7, they still answer evasively. But now we understand that "no", translated from marketing language, can mean anything.

However, the BMW M760Li xDrive turned out to be the best in almost everything. She has the most voluminous engine not only among other BMWs, but also among competitors - this is a 6.6-liter V12, which is partially unified with units Rolls-Royce Ghost and Wraith. It has a pair of mono-scroll turbos flanking the engine with a compact 60-degree camber - just like the first V12! And this engine is now the most powerful in the range - 610 Horse power and 800 Nm of torque.

But… not the most powerful on the market: the six-liter V12 in the Mercedes-AMG S 65 L produces 630 hp. and as much as 1000 Nm of torque. Why didn't BMW engineers make at least 631 hp? In response - again Bavarian snobbery: "The current return is fully consistent with the tasks and is optimal in terms of car balance."

The 760 has huge 19-inch front brakes with Brembo calipers, but the regular ones are cast iron rather than carbon ceramic. “Certainly, we could put composite brake discs, but they do not match the image of the flagship sedan - noisy and work too sharply; ordinary metal ones do an excellent job with the tasks.”

But the engineers finally managed to “marry” a 12-cylinder engine and all-wheel drive transmission. To do this, I had to thoroughly tinker with the engine crankcase and with general layout, but the result is worth it: only 3.7 seconds in acceleration to hundreds. It's not just the most fast bmw of our days is the most dynamic 12-cylinder sedan on the planet!

The gearbox is an eight-speed ZF "automatic" with a filling reinforced for the mighty temper of the V12 engine and reprogrammed brains. It already has a quick start mode (Launch Control) in the base and - at the opposite pole of sports ideology - a stop / start system that jams this huge fuel combustion chamber in traffic jams, and then starts it again.

And the way the 12-cylinder engine wakes up softly and smoothly is its magic. For which some are willing to pay a fortune.

No other engine wakes up from sleep so softly and smoothly - with a velvety sound and almost no vibrations, so the video “cold start of the BMW V12” is unlikely to collect thousands of likes and reposts. Unless, of course, you have an M760Li xDrive with a sports exhaust system: then simply select the Sport mode on the “driver’s” console and enjoy the depth and “multi-liter” voice of this mighty unit. Just don't expect the anger and squeal of modern supercharged V8s from him - this thing sounds much more complex and voluminous.

Only 0.3 seconds slower than the AMG E 63 S, but the difference in sensation is like bungee jumping off a cliff or descending in a helicopter. And this is the whole point of the flagship "b-m-double-u".

The suspension, redrawn according to M Performance patterns, does not shake precious passengers even in the very sport mode(although it is tougher than on other "sevens"), and in a comfortable or adaptive one it generally lays with the softness of a sheep's wool carpet. Even on hefty 20-inch wheels.

Inside - silence and peace. If someone told me that I'm driving the electric traction of a hybrid sedan at 70 miles per hour in the USA, I would not be surprised - because in civilian modes the mighty V12 does not manifest itself at all. Absolutely. But not in civilians?

The magic of the letter "M" in the name of this "seven" begins to work only on roads that are more complicated than the American highway. On serpentines, active stabilizers with electromechanical locks and a thruster are included in the action. rear axle, which makes the 5.2-meter sedan spin behind its tail with the enthusiasm of a Labrador puppy. And tires! The M760Li xDrive is fitted with different-sized Michelin tires Super Sport(245/40 R20 front and 275/35 R20 rear) with a magic "asterisk" - welded by French tire manufacturers especially for this model. And they are amazing.

They are so tough that trying to get to the limit of their grip on normal (American, in our case) roads is fraught with corrective labor, and they provide a good half of the driving character of the M760Li. The remaining ingredients are already familiar from other "sevens" - a driver's chassis, a rigid and lightweight body with carbon fiber elements of a power cage, four-wheel drive and powerful brakes that can withstand even a few laps on the race track. Hey BMW guys, now I believe you!


On racing track At The Thermal Club near Palm Springs, we did a short session on a short track and then a few laps in a high configuration with DTM driver Augusto Farfus. The M760Li is certainly not a BMW M2, but I don't know of any other sedan this size that feels as unflappable on the race track.

And where is the engine on this list, you ask? Well, he is. And this best feature of the possible. Remember how Rolls-Royce engines used to be labeled “enough”? So here - this V12 is sufficient. Like this whole car. Because it’s not about sports at all, no matter how much BMW marketers would like the opposite. It's about status. Or about show-offs.

Take it for granted: the flagship sedan, if it's going to compete for the most important buyers, must have in the lineup of 12-cylinders. Just like anyone successful person I need an expensive suit and polished shoes. And all these wild and roaring biturbo V8s are toys for those who have not yet accumulated anything themselves. No fortune, no life experience.

And that's why a BMW M760Li xDrive with a lurid glossy V12 badge on a matte body, with all those sporty bumpers, blue M brake calipers and a booming exhaust, is an absolute nonsense.

Luckily, someone at BMW seems to think the same way, which is why the M760Li has an Excellence trim in addition to being sporty. With exactly the same engine, the same suspension and brakes (only useless paddle shifters and a loud exhaust are missing), but with beautiful chrome wheels, a strict front bumper and normal coloring. The Bavarians say that this version is aimed at the Asian market, but ... Something tells me that in the language of marketers, this can mean anything.

M6 Hurricane CS: German tuners from G-Power said

Tuning studio built its own version of the BMW M6 coupe - Hurricane CS - which, having accelerated to 372 kilometers per hour in tests, became the fastest car brand bmw among road versions. This car broke the previous record of 367 kilometers per hour set by BMW sedan M5 Hurricane, also prepared by G-Power.

The studio specialists equipped the coupe with an upgraded version of the five-liter V10 bi-turbo engine from their own tuning version of the BMW M5, which developed 730 horsepower. After replacing the turbines with two mechanical superchargers, reprogramming the engine control unit and installing a new exhaust system, the power of the unit increased by 20 horsepower to 750, and the maximum torque increased to 800 Nm at 5000 rpm. According to G-Power, the BMW M6 Hurricane CS can accelerate from zero to one hundred kilometers per hour in 4.4 seconds, to 200 and 300 in 9.6 and 26 seconds, respectively.

To reduce the weight of the coupe, G-Power replaced the standard exhaust system BMW M6 on a titanium counterpart, which weighs 24 kilograms less. The car managed to lose the same amount due to new carbon seats. In addition, more efficient and at the same time lighter six-piston brake mechanisms with carbon-ceramic 380 mm discs.

Also, the tuning coupe received aerodynamic kit body, new adjustable suspension and 21 inch wheel disks with tires that can withstand speeds up to 340 kilometers per hour. It is worth noting that in order to achieve maximum speed, completely different wheels were installed on the car - 19- inch wheels with special Michelin tires Pilot Sport PS2 255/35 front and 305/30 rear.

G-Power is selling the M6 ​​Hurricane CS coupe as a complete car only. Prices for it in Germany start at 360,000 euros ($477,000). Money, of course, is not small, but the right to own the fastest BMW is worth it.

The tuning team worked on the finalization of the "fastest" BMW M5E60 for eight months. It is confirmed that by speed parameters car faster Lamborghini Gallardo, Turbo modified Porsche models and Maserati. The car received engine firmware up to 640 hp, sports manifolds, SuperSprint exhaust, increased performance injectors - all this allows you to reach speeds of over 400 km / h.

Fine-tuning the car required an investment of 200 thousand dollars, one of the best teams of Russian auto mechanics, tuning professionals worked on the car. “This is the fastest BMW M5E60 in Russia, it is built on the verge of reasonable and possible. We named it "Shadow" because it was made for the night. And I created it for racing with sportbikes, because I am no longer interested in competing with other cars, ”says street racer Eric Davidovich. In two months, BMW will receive an additional compressor, and its capacity will increase even more. In racing mode, the fuel consumption of the M5E60 is 30 liters of 98 gasoline per 100 km.

The creators of the modified version of the car claim that it is one of a kind in many ways. In particular, the E60 body has long been discontinued and the multimedia and control systems have become obsolete. Therefore, the creators have implemented the NBT system on the car, which BMW puts on its top models only on special orders. You can talk to the system, ask to turn on the disk or name the street and house number - and the computer will turn on the music or select navigation and even take into account traffic jams.

The car is covered with five layers of film to get exactly the right color that attracts the eye. The wheels were made according to Davidovich's sketches, the author's interior was made to order, just like the steering wheel, for the manufacture of which the rider's personal parameters were taken - the length of the fingers, the width of the girth, and individual stiffness was selected.

We turned to experts for comment. As Maria Bugaeva, BMW brand manager and Alpina companies“ABTODOM”, the official distributor of these brands in Russia, “a much more balanced result can be achieved by turning not to the services of tuning agencies, but to professionals. So, BMW Alpina B3 with a base price of 88,087 euros (105,890 euros with options package) accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4 seconds and can be operated without compromising engine life at a maximum speed of 305 km/h. Torque serial sports car from the German town of Buchloe is 600 Nm in the range from 3000-4000 rpm. At the same time, the car demonstrates fuel consumption in the urban cycle of 10.6 liters per 100 kilometers, and when driving on the highway, it drops to 6.3 liters. The 540-horsepower BMW Alpina B7, which accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 4.2 seconds, is offered in the basic configuration for 157,079 euros, and with a full range of options, the price of this limousine with the character of a real sports car does not exceed 190,000 euros. The main differences between the products of professionals and the fruit of creativity of handicraft masters are the exact calculation and balance of the components and assemblies of the car.

BMW pulled the cover off its own fast car brand, limited edition 2016 M4 GTS.


Before we delve into the consideration specifications and car parts, let me say that in total 700 units of cars of this version will be produced, which will be disproportionately distributed throughout the markets of all countries of the world. Almost half of the M4 GTS series, 300 cars, will go to the US, 400 will remain available for purchase in other countries. Price tag for this version is not yet known, but, apparently, it will be greatly overpriced even compared to the cost of the "regular" M4.



And so, BMW enthusiasts, who are trying with all their might to preserve the Bavarian heritage of the M3 of past decades in the bodies of the E30 and E46, if you have enough funds to purchase super new items from, go for it, but know that you need to hurry, there will definitely not be enough for all these cars. Apparently, with the advent of the GTS in 2016, BMW opens new era victories and drive.

The new production model was previewed this summer at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Élégance, where the M4 GTS Concept was unveiled. It's nice to know that production version almost all technological sophistications have been transferred from the concept car, which directly indicates that production model will set a new bar for BMW in terms of performance and its technological showcase showing the achievements and BMW successes in terms of technological and industrial innovations. Against this background, two technologies stand out in particular, loudly declaring the work that has been done during the development of the model. Under the hood of the GTS beats mighty heart M4, a 3.0 liter turbocharged inline-six that has been modified with BMW's patented water injection technology. The system was tested on a MotoGP Safety Car. This technology injects a jet of water into the intake chamber where it evaporates, significantly reducing the temperature of the incoming air, which in turn lowers the final compression temperature in the combustion chamber. This allows for even more boost pressure to increase power.


The numbers confirm the calculations BMW engineers. S65 twin-tube six produces 493 hp. peak power at 6,250 rpm and 600 Nm of torque from 4,000 to 5,000 rpm. A noticeable increase in power performance compared to the "regular" M4, which has engine compartment located 425 hp available in the region of 5.500-7.300 rpm and 550 Nm in the range from 1.850 to 5.500 rpm, respectively.

BMW claims that fuel consumption will remain the same (although, frankly, we are not sure that a person capable of purchasing such a car would care about this “little thing”).

Only one thing can be said for 100%, those who will drive around the track in this BMW will face a slight inconvenience that will create new system water injection. The five-litre tank in the trunk has to be topped up at every refueling during racing use of the car or every five fill-ups for civilian use, nonsense, of course, but now the owners of these BMWs will spend a little more water.



Offered exclusively with a seven-speed gearbox, BMW M with double clutch, which received a specially tuned Launch Control system for manual mode, the GTS, can hit 100 km/h from standstill in 3.8 seconds. Affordable maximum speed 305 km/h

Competitors out of business?


Some BMW competitors under the hood are more advanced motors in terms of power. For example, AMG Mercedes versions C63, its twin-turbo V8 makes 503 hp, but pay attention to the power-to-weight ratio, because the GTS version is 80 kg lighter than the standard M4, thanks to a number of improvements. The M4 is not a very heavy car in terms of curb weight, it is clearly lighter than classmates from Mercedes, so it turns out that the dynamics, handling and results of the GTS will be better than the more powerful but heavier versions of the nearest competitors from MB.

Weight-saving modifications include the removal of the rear seats, the use of aluminum in the suspension and subframe, carbon fiber reinforced plastic used for the hood (in addition to the roof), front and rear spoilers. Carbon ceramic brakes and a titanium exhaust system are also featured on the BMW GTS.



BMW M division has also developed a special design for the GTS, a fully adjustable suspension with adjustable dampers, additional spoilers, including a huge rear wing. Modified electromechanical steering, improved Active M differential, recalibrated electronic assistants, Michelin Sport Cup 2 in 265/35, which are shod with 19-inch front wheels and 285/30 R20 for the rear rollers. All this tenacious magnificence is dressed on spectacular alloy wheels.

Inside there are many changes that do not hide the racing nature of the M4 GTS and it's not just about the removed rear seats, but installed roll cage bars, a pair of racing lightweight bucket seats with six-point seat belts, a fire extinguisher, an Alcantara sports steering wheel and doors covered in unpretentious fabric upholstery.



The body can be ordered in four colors including Sapphire Black metallic, Mineral Gray metallic, Alpine White and Frozen Dark Gray Metallic.
