The car concern "Toyota" began to produce in 1955. Since then, fourteen models have left the assembly line. Most of them are distinguished by the emblem in the form of a “crown” on the front, while the Toyota logo is usually used on the back for all products of this concern.
It must be said that the “crown” in different variations is present in the names of many of the manufacturer’s models, since it was this word that inspired the company to produce its first sedans. Corolla is Latin for “little crown”, Camry is a phonetic transcription of the Japanese kanmuri, and Corona also means what is today the emblem of this world-famous automotive giant.
Story
It is unlikely that in the mid-fifties of the last century, the company's management, giving the green light to the production of the Toyota Crown mid-size sedan, intended exclusively for Japanese taxi companies, thought that someday their brainchild would become a bestseller and generally an old-timer of the brand.
Debuted in 1955, the brand new "crowned" Crown with the factory code S30 quickly gained popularity. In addition to being used as a taxi, the model has replenished the fleets of various government agencies in its homeland, turning into a working car for small and medium-sized businesses. "Toyota Crown" even began to be used in some Japanese prefectures as a vehicle for the police.
The evolution of technical data
In order to be able to objectively assess all the advantages of this fairly spacious sedan, which distinguish it favorably from analogues of other brands, you need to know in detail the chronology of evolution. According to experts, in each subsequent series, and there are already fourteen of them today, only advanced technical innovations have always been used in accordance with the times.
First generation
The initial modification of the Crown did not stand out in particular in terms of its technical characteristics. The first Toyota Crown, a photo of which can only be seen today in the company's museum, was a classic rear-wheel drive sedan. She had a one and a half liter sixty-horsepower engine and a three-speed manual gearbox.
This machine was produced in two versions. The very first models were produced in station wagon form factors - this is the Toyopet Masterline with three or six-seater saloons and, of course, a sedan.
next release
Toyota Crown of the second generation stood out for its stylish design. Its prototype is the exterior of the Ford Falcon, produced in 1960. For the first time, the car was equipped with a proprietary two-speed Toyoglide gearbox. The manufacturer left behind the four-door utility body along with the Masterline label.
In 1965, in order to increase the speed of the machine, a six-cylinder engine of the M series with a volume of two liters was installed as a power unit.
Almost simultaneously, the mass production of the Eight model with a reinforced V8 engine started. In this car, power windows and a central electric lock were introduced for the first time. Another innovation was the speed control system and, of course, the three-speed automatic transmission, which was first introduced into Toyota Crown cars.

In 2012, mass production of the S210 series cars began. This is the fourteenth and today the last generation of the Toyota Crown. Tuning this car is practically not required. The developers, inspired by the grand success of its previous generation, decided not to modify the proportions that were successfully chosen during the development of the thirteenth release, but only to slightly correct the design.
Even in the simplest configuration, this inexpensive, but “crowned” Japanese is equipped with dual-zone climate control, vaunted Japanese velor, electric adjustment of mirrors and steering column, as well as front seats, light sensor, anti-lock braking system, EPS, bi-xenon headlights with automatic leveling, etc. d.
As for the internal content, then, when compared with the previous generation, in which the main emphasis was placed on the most accurate suspension tuning in order to increase both maneuverable and dynamic performance, the concept of the updated Crown can be considered a return to the classic principles of respectability and comfort inherent in premium cars.
Until the end of the nineties of the last century, the Crown was produced not with a load-bearing body, but on a frame. This was due to the then unattainable level of comfort and smoothness, and this despite the fact that those cars weighed almost one and a half tons, and their fuel consumption with a 3.5-liter engine did not exceed ten liters in urban conditions.
Motor
On-board systems are controlled using a touch-sensitive multifunctional display. Revolutionary changes have not bypassed the engines either - the six-cylinder variants that used to be equipped with luxury cars of the concern have long sunk into history. Instead, they began to install new GR-series engines, which were first tested in 2003 on cars intended for the domestic Japanese market. These were six-cylinder V-shaped engines with a volume of 2.5, as well as 3 and 3.5 liters and a power of 215, 256 and 315 horsepower, respectively. It was from this generation that all subsequent modifications of the Toyota Crown, even in minimal batches, began to be equipped with intelligent security systems such as VSC or TRC.
In general, in most cars of the latest generation of Toyota, a modern 2.5-liter V6 engine and a 6-speed automatic transmission are installed. The most powerful - the Athlete model is equipped with a 3.5-liter V6 engine and an 8-speed "automatic".
Design
The Toyota concern has approved a concept that focuses not only on functionality, but also on style. At the same time, both criteria should not only not oppose each other, but, on the contrary, should be harmoniously combined. The Toyota Crown had a fundamentally different chassis. Which is able to carry a body with a large volume. As for capacity, even the Mercedes-Benz E-Class or BMW 5 Series are inferior to the updated Toyota Crown, whose interior is noticeably larger. The wheelbase has expanded, the length of both axles has increased, while now the load on them is dispersed so that maximum maneuverability is achieved.
Model 2016-2017
This "top" sedan has become an extract from the entire history of the Toyota Crown. He has an impeccable Asian appearance, and there are no compromises in either technique or style.
The new generation received only three basic configurations: "Athlete", "Royal Salon" and "Toyota Crown Majesta", which has an extended base. Optionally, these cars can be equipped with all-wheel drive, while in the basic version - only rear. Each of them traditionally differs from the rest in a bumper, radiator grille, optics, and taillights.
At the same time, the Toyota Crown Sedan is still being produced - a car with a simpler finish and with a different lining, which is intended exclusively for lovers of Japanese conservative models.

Luxury sedans are today the closest field for rivalry of all Japanese automakers existing on the market. Each of the famous manufacturers strives to produce their own models that will be able to compete with the famous Toyota Crown in the domestic market of the Land of the Rising Sun. This rivalry, in addition to being purely ambitious, has a very practical purpose, because luxury sedans are in great demand from government agencies that buy them to be used as vehicles for government leaders, police officers, etc.
Even before the start of production of eleventh generation cars, motorists who prefer Toyota had accumulated a sufficient range of claims directed to its manufacturer. Moreover, these were accusations not even of a technical, but of a more ideological nature. The giant automaker was accused of excessive conservatism, sooner or later degrading to "dullness and routine." That is why, starting to design the twelfth generation model line, the designers abandoned the classical principles and their own long-term traditions. And as a result, they created a prototype that became the basis of a completely new series called Zero Crown. Manufacturers literally mean that this is “Crown from scratch”.
