Power supply and lubrication system of the YaMZ-236 diesel engine

Power supply system (fuel system) of the YaMZ-236 engine and its components

Fuel supply equipment for the YaMZ-236 diesel power supply system for Ural, Maz, and T-150 tractors is of a divided type.

Fuel system The YaMZ-236 diesel engine consists of a fuel pump high pressure with all-mode speed controller and built-in corrector for correction fuel supply, fuel priming pump, injection advance clutch or without it, injectors, coarse filters and fine cleaning fuel, low and high pressure fuel lines.

fuel tank

From the tank, through a coarse filter, fuel is sucked in by the fuel priming pump of the engine of the Ural, Maz, and T-150 tractors and supplied to the fine filter and then to the high-pressure fuel pump.

The fuel pump, in accordance with the operating order of the cylinders, supplies fuel through high-pressure fuel lines to the injectors, which spray it into the engine cylinders. Through the bypass valve in the fuel pump and the jet in the fine filter, excess fuel, and along with it the air that has entered the system, is discharged through the fuel line into the fuel tank. The fuel that has leaked into the cavity of the injector spring is discharged through the drain pipeline into the tank. Coarse filter

If access to the filter is difficult, in order to avoid cases of gasket displacement, it is permissible to lubricate the gasket on the cover side at several points with grease before installation.

Unscrew plug 3, pour clean fuel into the filter and tighten the plug carefully.

Start the engine and make sure the filter is tight. Tighten the bolts and eliminate air leaks.

Fine filter for diesel internal combustion engine YaMZ-236

The fine fuel filter for Ural and Maz vehicles and the T-150 tractor (Fig. 34) consists of a cap 5 with a rod 6 welded to it, a cover 8 and a filter element 4.

A drain plug 1 with a gasket 2 is screwed into the rod from below. The seal between the cap and the lid is provided by a paronite gasket 7. The cap and the lid are connected by a bolt 12, under the head of which a sealing washer 13 is placed.

A nozzle 12 is screwed into the cover, which is sealed with a gasket 10. Some of the fuel is drained through the nozzle along with the air that has entered the system low pressure.

On the engines of Ural and Maz cars and the T-150 tractor, equipped with an electric torch device, instead of a jet, a jet valve 15 is installed in the filter.

At low pressure in the system, which can be observed when starting the engine, fuel does not drain, and the fuel supply to the ECU is improved.

Replacing the fine fuel filter element for the YaMZ-236 internal combustion engine

Drain the sediment from the filter.

Unscrew bolt 5 (Fig. 35) securing the cap.

Remove the cap 10 and remove the old filter element 8.

Wash the internal surfaces of the cap with gasoline or clean diesel fuel.

Place spring 9 in cap 10, filter element 8 (with the smaller hole down), and install a rubber gasket on the upper flange of the element.

Place washer 6 of the fastening bolt and gasket 7 of the cap, install the cap with the element in place and carefully tighten bolt 5.

To drain sludge from fuel filters for coarse and fine cleaning, unscrew 3-4 turns drain plugs and pour 0.1 liters of fuel into a placed container.

After draining the sediment, tighten the plugs and run the engine for 3-4 minutes to remove air jams. Draining the sludge is especially important in the winter to remove condensing water.

Fuel lines of the YaMZ-236 engine

To supply fuel to the pump and injectors, as well as to remove excess fuel, the YaMZ-236 engine of Ural and Maz vehicles and the T-150 tractor has a system of low and high pressure fuel lines.

Low pressure fuel lines are connected with hollow bolts or union nuts through ferrules attached to the ends of the fuel lines. The contact surfaces are sealed with copper washers 1.5 mm thick.

YaMZ-236 high-pressure fuel lines have the same length for all engine cylinders. The ends of the fuel lines are set in the shape of a cone and pressed with union nuts to the fittings of the high pressure fuel pump and injectors. To avoid damage to fuel lines due to vibration, they must be secured using special brackets.

The order of operation of the sections for different models The injection pumps are different, therefore the connection schemes for the high-pressure fuel lines of the injection pump sections and the injectors of the engine cylinders are different.

Lubrication system of the YaMZ-236 diesel engine

The lubrication system of the YaMZ-236 engine of Ural, Maz, and T-150 tractors is mixed, with a “wet” sump (Fig. 36).

The YaMZ-236 oil pump (Fig. 37), through a suction pipe with an intake, sucks oil from the crankcase and supplies it to system through, series-connected liquid-oil heat exchanger (if equipped).

A bypass valve is installed in the heat exchanger body (plate). If the pressure difference before and after the heat exchanger reaches 274±40 KPa (2.8±0.40 kgf/cm2), the valve opens and part of the oil is supplied directly to the oil line.

On the YaMZ-236N,B engines of Ural and Maz cars, and the T-150 tractor, instead of a throttle, a valve is installed that stops the oil supply to the injectors when the oil pressure in the lubrication system is below 300...350 kPa (3.0...3.5 kgf/cm2).

The other part goes into the oil filter (Fig. 38). A bypass valve is installed in the filter housing. When the pressure difference before and after the filter reaches 200...250 kPa (2.0...2.5 kgf/cm2), the valve opens and part of the crude oil is supplied directly to the oil line. By the time the opening begins bypass valve

the moving and fixed contacts of the signaling device will close.

At this moment, a warning light connected to the signaling device terminal lights up in the driver’s cabin. This increase in pressure can occur when the filter element is clogged or the oil has a high viscosity (for example, when starting the engine in the cold season).

The filter element of the YaMZ-236 oil filter is made either of non-woven material stretched over a metal frame, or of special filter paper. From the filter, oil flows into the central oil channel, and from there, through a system of channels in the block, to the bearings of the crankshaft and camshaft. From bearings crankshaft YaMZ-236 via oil channels V

crankshaft and connecting rods, oil is supplied to the bearings of the upper heads of the connecting rods. From

camshaft of the YaMZ-236 diesel engine of the Ural, Maz cars, and the T-150 tractor, the oil is directed in a pulsating flow to the pusher axis, and from there, through the pusher channels, cavities of the rods and rocker arms, it flows to all the rubbing pairs of the valve drive, and through the outer pipe to the bearings of the turbocharger, frequency regulator rotation and high pressure fuel pump. The product that glorified the enterprise and made it a leader in the Russian diesel industry is the YaMZ 236 engine. This unit has been rolling off the plant’s assembly line for more than fifty years, and despite this, it is still in demand and popular. The YaMZ 236 engine is a common power plant in our country and in the CIS countries. The motor is used for installation on trucks, tractors, combines; over ten modifications of the unit have been developed. This need for a unit can be explained simply: versatility, reliability, simplicity and survivability, this is the recipe for the longevity of the YaMZ 236.

Ural 4320 s installed unit YaMZ 236:

Start

The birth of the power plant began in the fifties of the last century. The plant in Yaroslavl received a state order to create powerful diesel units. The designers were given the task to develop universal motor with the possibility of use on cars, tractors and for other needs.

The development of the installation was undertaken by a talented designer and scientist G.D. Chernyshev. Under his leadership, the history of the famous YaMZ 236 engine and other series of diesel units began. Thanks to the policy of mass transition from gasoline to diesel, the power unit quickly spread throughout the territory Soviet Union. New unit was economical, reliable, easy to maintain. The installation was valued for its availability in terms of the price of spare parts and increased resource, which allowed to cover 500,000 km.

Chernyshev Georgy Dmitrievich (1923-1999), developer of YaMZ 236:

Description

Power unit received high praise and trust from users. Largely due to the fact that the YaMZ 236 engine has such specifications, which support claims of its versatility. The engine is six-cylinder, the angle of inclination between the cylinders is 90°, the chambers are arranged parallel, in two rows. During operation, an internal pressure of 16.5 atmospheres is created. Innings fuel mixture carried out by injection into the combustion chamber. The cross-section of the piston is 130 mm in diameter, the stroke of the product is 140 mm. The fuel pressure is created by a high-pressure fuel pump; the pump operates mechanically, injection working mixture into each cylinder using sprayers. There are three inlet and three exhaust valve. Cooling with a liquid, the circulation of which in the product is forced, by a water pump driven by the crankshaft. The total volume of the unit’s cylinders is eleven liters, the generated power varies from 150 to 420 Horse power. After minor modifications and tuning of the engine, the fuel consumption of the installation was 25 liters per hundred kilometers, whereas previously this figure was forty liters. The unit block is made of cast iron, although latest models Aluminum is actively used as a material.

  • Unit YaMZ 236M2 (Euro 0).
The power units of the modification are produced without supercharging and comply with Euro 0 standards. The motors are mounted on: walking escalators, ships, converters and other installations. The YaMZ 236M2 engine has basic characteristics similar to the base model. The differences lie in the attachments.

Power unit YaMZ 236M2 (Euro 0):

  • Euro 1 power unit.
Power plants of Euro 1 and Euro 2 standards refer to products that include a turbine, an air intercooler and a heat exchange device. The YaMZ 236 turbo engine managed to improve its technical characteristics, the power depending on the configuration is 230 - 250 hp. The improved design and turbine have improved emissions, and the powerplants comply with Regulation 96 emissions regulations.

Like atmospheric engines, variants with a turbine can be equipped with a box variable gears, clutch and various attachments. Depending on the attachments The weight of modifications may differ significantly from each other. Motors are used on cars, platforms, cranes, compressors and other equipment. A significant plus of the units is reduced fuel consumption.

Euro 1 modifications:

Power unit YaMZ 236 ND (Euro 1):

  • Unit 236HE2 (Euro 2).
The basic characteristics of the power unit are identical to the characteristics of a motor that meets Euro 1 requirements. The difference between the 236NE2 engine series is its compliance with rules No. 49; No. 24-03 Euro2. Power plants are used in transport, the operation of which is associated with difficult conditions. These include: Ural, MAZ, ZIL vehicles, multi-seat vehicles for transporting passengers.

Power unit YaMZ 236 HE (Euro 2):

Adjusting the YaMZ 236 engine

It is difficult to configure the unit in the field, since for the dismantling and assembly procedure it is necessary to have special equipment. The setup procedure includes a large number of operations; the main manipulations include:

  • Adjusting the unit valves.
The operation is carried out using a special probe, which is used only for power YaMZ installations 236. The peculiarity is that the process occurs at cover removed valves
  • Unit clutch balancing.
The adjustment operation is carried out using a special stand.
  • Adjusting the fuel supply through the high pressure fuel pump of the unit.
The work is carried out in a specially designated place, since the mechanism is adjusted only with the help of special tool, which is difficult to find outside the station servicing the unit.

Care

The power unit has a simple design, so servicing the motor is not difficult. To carry out the work, you need to read the instructions for the engine in order to know the nuances that arise during the operation. It is also advisable to study the diagram of the mechanisms and components with which you plan to work. Main types of manipulations:

  • Changing the oil in the unit. The lubrication system of the base power unit includes about 24 liters of oil. The replacement procedure is simple, just drain old fluid and fill in new lubricant. The oil recommended for use in the 236 engine is diesel lubricant M10G2K, or similar oils. The replacement procedure is carried out after every 8-10 thousand kilometers.

Power unit YaMZ 236: oil M10G2K

  • Replacing unit filters. The power unit is equipped with filter elements that must be changed every 10,000 km. This is done in order to maintain performance technical installation, extending the service life of the latter.
