And our next guest, Mikhail Smolyanov, lives and works in Moscow. Strictly speaking, he combines futurism, retro and steampunk in his works. But we will put it simply: Smolyanov's creations are designer porn. At the same time, many of his ideas have already been implemented in the form of quite viable "customs".
Once there was such a Soviet record car GL-1. In the new century, they decided to recreate the car in the form of a futuristic concept, and in addition to it, Smolyanov also drew a motorcycle.
Of course, the design of motorcycles is, first of all, not the lot of geeks and "homemade", but a huge branch of activity of any company producing motorcycles. BMW Motorrad, with which we started this story, is full of its own, in the sense of “non-student”, incredibly cool concepts. The Italian Aprilia rarely indulges with concepts, but very aptly. Even such seemingly retrogrades as Harley Davidson have great concept bikes! And don’t feed the designers of the Big Japanese Motorcycle Four with rice at all, let me draw something crazy. Here is a classic example - Honda V4.
Honda V4 was introduced back in 2008, supposedly equipped with a conventional 4-cylinder V-twin engine, but ... a motorcycle with wheels without spokes looks definitely cool.
American brands play in their own field, in their own genre, but it also turns out very effectively. Victory, controlled by the giant Polaris Industries, showed the concept cruiser Core. Enclosed in a stylish aluminum frame Gas engine with a volume of 1,731 cc, producing 97 hp. and 153 Nm. Add here the dry weight of the device at 212 kg and draw conclusions about its dynamics... How can one not recall the famous Austrian Tim Cameron and his sensational bikes Traveston V-Rex and VR-2, now produced in the USA. We present you the third project of Cameron - CAF-E. The motorcycle has power plant, built according to the Toyota Synergy Drive principle - the internal combustion engine and the electric motor work in parallel, giving off exactly as much power as necessary at any given time.

The author of the CAF-E project said this phrase, talking about his new job. Perhaps it should be considered the leitmotif of this entire publication. Indeed, there are more and more concept bikes that provide for a hybrid power plant. But some designers go further and completely abandon the engine internal combustion. So, for example, did Dan Anderson, a student from Australia, who drew Voltra. The most striking detail of this bike is the deliberate bend of the frame, which imitates a gas tank, which this bike simply does not need.
The Voltra electric motor is powered by the block lithium-ion batteries, hidden in a carbon body, and develops a torque of 129 Nm. The “maximum speed” of a 200-kilogram electric bike is 200 km / h, and the operating time on a single charge is at least 90 minutes.
Another cute electric bike is the Peugeot 515, the author of which, Simon Madella, another design student in our story, was inspired by the record-breaking Peugeot 515 motorcycle (yes, the name is borrowed outright) from the early 30s of the twentieth century. Simon says he wanted to create a motorcycle that was inspired by racing and that could break established records for speed, recharge time and reliability.
Risen from the dust of the Peugeot 515: the electric motor in the rear wheel, the battery in the base, as low as possible. Above it are wide ventilation windows, and below it is a plate with sensors that analyze road conditions.
In general, energy sources alternative to internal combustion engines are a hot topic for motorcycle developers. Let's say no one (well, almost no one) in sober mind dare not imagine a car running on... compressed air. But a motorcycle - please! Moreover, the conceptual Saline Bird is just one of many similar bikes, some of which are already embodied in metal. Although in the case of the "Salty Bird" it is rather about the embodiment in carbon fiber. The characteristics are not reported even indicative, but they really want to build this thing, so we will find out soon.
The Saline Bird motorcycle is based rather not even on a frame, but on a light hydrocarbon frame, which made it possible to reduce the weight of the structure and optimally place the rider. On site fuel tank- you can see for yourself.
If it seems to you that all these new technologies are still too far from reality, here is a couple more examples for you in the end, when a completely traditional “heart” that feeds on oil refinery products is enclosed in an absolutely incredible shell. The Icare motorcycle concept was born in the halls of reason (or insanity?) of the employees of the French design studio Enzyme Design.
Like straight out of mescaline trips, the Icare is powered by a 6 (six!)-cylinder 1800cc Honda engine.
And, of course, one cannot ignore the epic Snake Road, which was inspired by the Belgian Bruno Delussus in 2010, who developed the concepts of motorcycles for the movie Tron: Legacy. Designed in a similar futuristic style, but with a distinct retro touch, Snake Road has the usual gasoline engine, but everything else fiberglass splendor in a good way breaks the brain.
It's not very clear how the Snake Road turns, although the name plays on the winding road - the design of the tie rod remains unclear. But this, as they say, does not affect the speed. At least imaginary.
Look again at these images. The future is already knocking on the door of your metal cage on four wheels. It remains only to understand that it is absolutely not necessary to carry it with you - it is too expensive, too fragile, too cramped, too bulky and too pointless. Let it sit in the garage for a while.
