The double clutch release technique, in fact, is little known to ordinary people and is only possible on cars with mechanical box gears. Its essence lies in the fact that the driver has gained such a number of revolutions power unit in the neutral position of the gearbox so that an optimal shift down one step occurs. This will provide the smoothest movement and reduce the load on the synchronizers. Properly applied double clutch technique increases their service life.

What is a double clutch release?

When the driver downshifts, once squeezing out, then all those present in the car during the movement experience a peculiar feeling that the car is being stretched. WITH double clutch the driver depresses the clutch with his left foot, but on downshift does not switch immediately, but falls into neutral for a fraction of a second. Next, the clutch pedal is slightly released and pressed a little to gain optimal speed engine, and then turn on lowest rung as fast as possible. Simply put, the speed when switching to a lower gear does not fall, which means that the force of tension is not felt. The faster acceleration occurs before downshifting, the more you need to squeeze the gas in neutral so that the power unit gains required amount revolutions.

Double Clutch Technique

1. Accelerate the car in first gear to 3,000 rpm.

2. Depress the clutch pedal and release the gas pedal.

3. Engage neutral gear.

4. Take your foot off the clutch pedal.

5. Keep a short pause for synchronization. The engine speed will drop to 2,000, that is, as if you were driving in second gear.

6. Depress the clutch pedal again.

7. Engage the next gear - the second in this example.

8. Release the clutch pedal.

9. Increase the engine speed by pressing the gas pedal.

10. In the same way, switching to other gears occurs.

How to master double clutch release?

Mastering the technique of double clutch release is possible only in a practical way, by conducting daily training and stocking up with a certain diligence. Be careful when depressing the clutch and shifting gears, as if handled roughly, you may damage the transmission system car. Remember one thing: everything must be done as confidently and gently as possible. After a sufficient amount of practical exercises gear shifting will become easy and natural. Once the double-clutch technique becomes commonplace, you're unlikely to want to use the conventional shifting technique.

The main problem in mastering this technique, as a rule, becomes the moment when it is necessary to adjust the engine speed up or down in order to synchronize with the gearbox. But just like other driving skills, these techniques are only difficult to learn. Over time, you will do everything on the "machine". Let on manual transmissions modern cars and there are automatic synchronizers, but the use of such equipment will significantly extend the operational life of your manual transmission, because the load on the gears and synchronizers will be absolutely insignificant. The main thing is not to give up! The double clutch technique is excellent, even if it looks a little awkward at first.

If the car has a manual transmission, then the driver must know well how to use the clutch pedal correctly. What is this mechanism for and what function does it perform? Even the name "clutch" speaks for itself. With this pedal, the rotation of the wheels is reduced, and the engine operates in the same mode. To be even more precise: there is a spring between the two discs, it closes them, in order to weaken this spring, it is necessary to squeeze the clutch.

In order for the car to start moving, you need to press the clutch and set the first speed. The clutch pedal is on the left, then the brake and the third - gas. It is difficult to press the clutch: it is very tight, a matter of habit, over time you don’t notice it. You need to train to touch flat road so that there are no passers-by or vehicles nearby, and the wheels of the car are straight. For training, insert the key into the ignition, the car must be on the handbrake. We start the car, depress the clutch, remove the handbrake, turn on the third speed and do not press the gas, but just try to feel the car and listen to the speed. It’s great if there is a tachometer (speed sensor), for example, we wanted to catch 2000 rpm, it was displayed on the tachometer, we release the clutch smoothly, the car will not go, but will stall. For a beginner, this is what you need. future driver should feel how and when to release the clutch. Not abruptly, but smoothly and briefly. Repeat several times for skill.

Then give yourself and the car a rest for 10 minutes. Otherwise, you can burn the clutch. If you haven’t learned the lesson, then repeat it again, and if it works out, then you can learn to get under way. To do this, we start the car, squeeze the clutch, remove the handbrake and turn on the first speed. Put your right foot on the gas. Slowly release the clutch and press the gas pedal a little. If everything is correct, the car will not twitch and stall. To smoothly release the clutch and not press the other foot hard on the gas, you have to learn a little, it's not so difficult. But when it works out once, you will understand how to drive the car correctly so that the engine does not stall and growl (due to strong pressure on the gas pedal, with the clutch not fully released). For the machine, this can result in a breakdown, it is undesirable to train for a long time. Better - on a special simulator. Every driving school has one.

When you manage to move off and you already feel how to properly depress the clutch, you need to practice the technique emergency braking. To do this, we do not start the car, but only practice skills. We keep the right foot on the gas pedal, and the left foot near the clutch. At the command of the instructor, we sharply press the clutch with the left, and the brake with the right. This technique must be worked out to automatism, repeated many times. In the future, it will help to avoid accidents or collisions.

It is necessary to be able to use the clutch correctly when driving the car in reverse. This approach also needs to be worked out. When the driver is driving backwards, then all attention is focused on whether there are any obstacles from behind, and the left foot should already automatically know the location of the clutch pedal. To start moving in reverse: press the clutch all the way, turn on the reverse gear, see if there is any interference. With the right foot on the gas, and the left - smoothly release, the car goes backwards. It must be borne in mind that you need to press the gas weaker than when moving forward, because reverse gear stronger than the first speed.

With a strong desire, you can learn how to squeeze the clutch, the main thing is to calmly follow all the instructions and not worry if everything does not work out right away.

I remember that not so long ago I had a chance to read a funny fantasy story on the now very popular topic of “fallen”. In it, the main character, an “office hamster”, who fell “in the clutches of the Beria security officers”, tries to attract the attention of higher persons to his person, but receives a rebuke, from which it means that he is not the first one here. In the course of the story, it turns out that the “hitman” does not have any information and skills useful for the pre-war USSR, and the only path in which he can prove himself is the work of a driver. Since in the future the main character drove his Chevrolet car, he is given the opportunity to prove himself as a driver of a lorry. This is where the story ends. However, if we recall the history of motoring, it becomes clear that the problems of the poor fellow have not yet ended ...

Let's leave the unfortunate hitman for a while and try to figure out what devices the car is moving with. The main, of course, we will call the engine - " fiery heart" cars. It turns the wheels by means of transmission mechanisms, and the car goes. But it is undesirable to directly connect the engine shaft with the wheels - even at the dawn of motoring, it became clear that it was necessary to introduce a certain device into the design that would allow changing the so-called gear ratio transmission, otherwise it was not possible to fully use the engine power.

The device was invented and called a gearbox, inside this unit there were shafts with gears put on them. One or more of these shafts are movable and, at the wave of the driver's hand, can move their gears to the desired position to provide one or another gear ratio. But here's the problem - the gears most often rotate at different angular speeds and, when meshing, experience serious loads that can lead to their damage and destruction.

Fortunately, the current car enthusiast, as a rule, does not have to think about such subtleties. IN modern box gears installed special devices- synchronizers. Simply put, they equalize the speed of rotation of the gears in such a way that the switching occurs without a crunch and bumps, the gear teeth enter into each other, as if “to their home”. This allows you to pick up speed or slow down smoothly, with virtually no jerks, and greatly extends the life of the box. But in the first half of the last century, such useful devices on cars mass production was not, and drivers had to shift gears in a more complicated way than they do now.

To carry out the upshift, from the lowest gear to the highest, the so-called double squeeze was used. Its essence was as follows - upon reaching the speed necessary for switching, the clutch pedal was depressed (the engine was disconnected from the transmission), and the "gas" pedal was released. Then the gear lever was placed in the neutral position and the clutch was released. The engine began to rotate the input to the gearbox input shaft, at this time there was an equalization of the speed of rotation of capricious gears. After that, the clutch was squeezed out again, and only after that they turned on more high gear. Further, as now, the clutch was released and began to give in to the gas. next gear included in the same way.

In the event that it was necessary to ensure a “down” switch, “regassing” was added to the above actions - at the moment when the gearshift knob was in “neutral” and the clutch was released, the driver slightly pressed the accelerator, adding speed to the engine. This again made it possible to equalize the angular velocities of the gears. Further, all actions were performed, as in the first case. And so throughout the trip ...

The main difficulty of the described procedures was that it was necessary to choose the right pause between releasing and pressing the clutch, when the gears were synchronized. Gas during regassing also had to be given in moderation. The driver determined all this intuitively, guided by the sound of the engine, the feeling of accelerating or decelerating the car, and indeed the “sixth sense”, the skill came with experience. And if you consider that in many other ways vintage cars were far from perfect, it becomes clear why the work of the driver of any car was then rightly considered very difficult. So the modern “rider” from a fantastic story, mentioned at the beginning of the article, most likely experienced a considerable shock when trying to master a lorry.

It would seem, why in our time does a non-professional know about all these cunning tricks of our ancestors? Technique is constantly being improved, and even those motorists who have a manual gearbox in their cars easily and quickly switch with two fingers on the lever and a couple of pedal presses and do not think about any angular speeds and regassings. In driving schools, if they talk about this, then briefly - according to the author's experience, even a quarter of a century ago, the instructor showed a double squeeze a couple of times and did not stutter about it anymore. Nevertheless, such a skill may well come in handy if synchronizers are out of order in the car box, but you have to go. In addition, economical car owners claim that such techniques can extend the life of the checkpoint, and they also like to use them in motorsport. So you can master them on occasion - maybe they will come in handy ...

Novice motorists are interested in how to drive a car with a manual transmission easier and without jerks? In order for the transmission of the box (gearbox) to be better connected, they must be turned on when certain vehicle speed. Usually, the lower the speed, especially 1, the harder it turns on - this is due to the fact that the more difference V gear ratio, between wheel revolutions and engine rotation, the harder the transmission lever comes in.

Direct gear is usually 4. This means that when driving it, the engine speed corresponds to the rotation of the wheel. For example, 1 speed, for city cars, transfers the rotation of the unit to the wheels in relation to 3.7 - 3.9 less than the rotation of the engine. With all gear ratios manual transmission car can be found in technical instructions for the operation of the vehicle.

How to manage mechanics:

1. Press (squeeze out) the clutch pedal
2. Enable transmission
3. Add gas
4. Slowly release the leftmost pedal

When the gear is engaged, the rotational speed of the motor and wheels are equalized using synchronizers that are located on the shaft of the box and the greater the difference in their rotation, the harder it is to move the lever. When switching from low to high, for easier switching on, it is necessary to spin the engine no higher than 2500 - 3000 rpm.

When turning on low, when the car is rolling in neutral, for an easier shift of the lever, you need to turn on the speed as high as possible. Try as much as possible not to translate it into the first one.

If the car is moving at 5 - 10 km / h, then it is better and freer to include the second, and not the first. Of course, you need to connect the clutch smoothly, possibly with the addition of gas. It all depends on the speed of the vehicle and the slope.

Mechanical gears are easier to turn on if vehicle driving in neutral at the following speeds:

1 p. - 5 km / h;
2 p. - 5-20 km / h;
3 p. - 30-40 km / h;
4 p. - 50-70 km / h;
5 p. - at least 75 km / h.

The car rides smoother, without jerks, and it is easier to control the gearbox in the non-power mode of the power unit, when they are 2000-3000 rpm. Some experts recommend switching speeds at least 2500-3500 rpm of the engine or near the highest torque so that the car does not go "to tight". Of course, this is not bad, but for fuel consumption, smooth control of the vehicle and gearbox, this does not work very well.

The higher the engine spins, the greater the friction of the piston on the cylinder, the more frequent the fuel injection and, naturally, the higher the fuel consumption, and the shorter the resource of the unit. Also, for a more simple gear shift, it must be started as slowly as possible without applying great effort. At the same time, she herself will easily switch.

Sometimes back mechanical transmission hard to turn on. This is due to the fact that usually budget cars reverse speed does not have a synchronizer and therefore sometimes it must be turned on with a strong jerk of the lever; when turned on, you can hear a slight knock.

When motorists drive a car for a long time, they themselves notice and find options for how to better manage the box. Therefore, practice is an indispensable method.

Double clutch release with overdrive

If the gearbox is old or they are very hard to switch. Especially the first with the second, then for easier switching, you can perform a double clutch release and at the same time do a regassing. Of course, this is not convenient and takes more time, but it easily comes in. This switch is used for trucks. It is performed as follows:

1. Clutch is pressed
2. The gear lever is moved to the neutral position
3. The leftmost pedal is released
4. The gas pedal is pressed, to raise the engine speed on average 2500-3000.
5. The left brake pedal is pressed
6. Downshift is engaged
7. Release the leftmost pedal

Reduced turns on immediately after pressing the gas. For a simpler switching scheme, you can skip re-gassing (pressing the gas). Also, to make the transmission easier to engage, changing the gearbox oil or adding an additive that reduces friction between the gears can help. Average oil change, according to, service book, every 100-150 thousand kilometers or 5 years.

transmission enough reliable detail and it's hard to break. She'll be out of action quickly if she loses a large number of oils. So periodically, if the vehicle is old, it is necessary to look for a leak in the mechanical box and check the oil level. In addition, for easier inclusion of reduced speed, you need to use a double squeeze.

A generation learned in Soviet driving schools or drivers who worked on the old domestic auto industry, such a question will not confuse. They know perfectly well what a double release is, what a regassing is and how to brake with an engine. These are the main questions that the driver had to master at the first stages of training.

IN modern world these questions are not relevant, since machines operating on such principles are becoming less and less. Until now, they function with village farmers, in our comprehensive schools as good example at labor lessons, schools, technical schools and of course in the army.

However, any driver needs to know these questions, since this was the basis of the foundations and in the event, God forbid, cataclysms of a universal scale and if the earth turns into a deserted desert, ala Mad Max, then they will be relevant. Why? Because the only equipment that will function is the old zilki with lawns, lorries, army armored cars and other monsters of the Cold War era.Ultra modern machines with tiptronic boxes, CVTs and a robotic transmission will sink into oblivion as sweet Dreams, which will not come true and comrades who are used to driving in the “D” position will either retrain or run on foot.Let's get closer to the point.

What is double squeeze and regassing?

Double squeeze and regassing compulsory procedure ballet with pedals for cars, the gearbox of which is devoid of synchronizers. It should be noted that earlier they were not installed on boxes, but later, when engineering thought reached the point that the car should not only be useful, but also easy to drive, synchronizers appeared.

What are synchronizers?

Synchronizers are mechanisms that synchronize the rotational number of the shaft and gears. This makes it easier to shift gears, makes shifts smooth and fast, and reduces wear and damage. Yes, and it eliminates the characteristic rattle that everyone has heard, especially when traveling on old buses.

Double release is required not only when there are no synchronizers, but also when they are faulty or the box is frankly dead.

The process of double squeezing is switching to overdrive by double pressing the clutch pedal. Why is this needed? I explain. This is necessary in order for the engine speed to be level with the shafts and gears, otherwise the latter will scatter or jam, as lucky as anyone. How does this happen? You are in first gear, cranking the engine up to 3000 RPM and planning to shift to second, you need to step on the gas, press the clutch and move the lever to neutral, lower the clutch and wait for the engine RPM to drop to 2000 and press the clutch again, which will switch to second. Thus, you equalize the speed of the primary and output shaft. The box is in order and you can move on.

Recycling is reverse process, in which you try to downshift without killing the gearbox. It happens in the following way. You are approaching a corner where you will not be able to pass in fourth gear. You slow down and if you do not downshift, you risk stalling, as there is not enough revs to spin the box with the engine. You smoothly throw on the gas and squeeze the clutch, take it off the speed and put it into neutral. Then the following happens, you need to gain speed, since the gear ratio of the low gear is higher. You need to work on the gas pedal or, as they say, do a re-gas to raise the engine speed. The revolutions have risen, they are synchronized with the shaft and you can press the clutch and switch to a lower gear and continue to move on it.

The main thing in the process is to observe a pause in gas exchange, with neutral gear. It's like a beginner who gets behind the wheel of a car for the first time and does not understand how to catch right moment clutch when starting, so that the car does not peck and stall. There are no special secrets here, the skill appears with experience.

Why is this necessary if modern cars with manual transmission are equipped with synchronizers? There is a simple answer to this. Imagine that you have a pickup truck or a small truck, such as Gazelle and Valdai, and you are transporting some kind of cargo. After all, the road is not always smooth and straight, there are descents and ascents or sections of rough terrain with a gravel road, and there are potholes, ravines through which it passes. Well, that these same synchronizers did not order to live long after the first rise, you need to use a regassing. You go uphill and you understand that the car won’t pull out in this gear, there won’t be enough speed, you do a regassing, switching to a lower one and it’s easy for the car to switch downhill without losing the necessary inertia.

There is one more thing that every driver should know - engine braking. Why is he already, if I have four gallant wheels that will do everything. Needed, especially when the brakes failed, ice or steep descent in mountainous area. In these cases, the ability to brake the engine is simply necessary. How does it happen? If you suspect your brakes are failing, downshift, engine RPM will increase and transmission speed will drop as you downshift. The car will start to slow down. Then switch in the same way until the danger is over and you can either continue moving or use brake system to stop. But this is on a manual transmission, but how to slow down with a gun? It is necessary to put the box into overdrive and gradually reduce the speed when speed will drop up to 90 km / h, transfer to the second and wait for the code, the speed will drop to 50 km / h, then switch to L. It's simple. However, most modern machines do not require such gestures and adapt themselves to your manner, if at a certain moment you threw the gas, then due to a lack of speed, it will itself reduce the gear, slowing down the entire structure.
