It is necessary to put a sign of spikes or not. Correct installation of the spike sign in accordance with traffic rules

It is necessary to put a sign of spikes or not. Correct installation of the spike sign in accordance with traffic rules

21.06.2019

From November 29, 2018, by a decree of the Government of the Russian Federation, the obligation to glue the “Spikes” sign on the car was removed from drivers. Now its presence is only advisory in nature and is not punishable by fines. Below is the article before the changes on 11/29/2018.

The parameters of signs placed on the glass of a vehicle have recently had to be strictly observed. In particular, car owners should know the dimensions of the “Spikes” sign according to GOST, since the slightest deviation from the norm cancels the presence of the symbol and entails a fine, as if it were not there at all.

What is a sign and its meaning

The identification symbol "Spikes" is a sticker in the form of a white triangle with equal sides, whose borders are painted in red and inside which the letter "Ш" is depicted in black. The pointer means that this remedy movement has studded tires.

According to part 8 of the set of regulations on the admission of a car for use, as well as clause 2.3.1. SDA, the sign "Spikes" is included in the list of identification symbols, whose installation on the vehicle is mandatory. Provided that the car has studded tires.

In practice, car owners do not always place the required symbol on the car. This is fundamentally wrong. From 04/04/2017, the absence of the "Spikes" indicator is equated to the presence of a malfunction, which accordingly imposes a ban on admission to driving vehicles. In other words, the presence of studded tires in the absence of a sign is a gross violation.

Identification mark size

According to the state standard, the parameters of the identification indicator "Spikes" are the following dimensions:

  • the length of each side of the triangle figure is not less than 20 cm;
  • the width of the red strip located along the edge of the figure is 1/10 of the length of one side of the triangle, in other words, at least 2 cm.

It is important to accurately observe the dimensions of the identification mark. The slightest deviation from the norm will automatically entail the loss of legal force by the symbol. And even if there is a pointer, but, for example, a smaller one, it will be considered that there is none on the machine.

The sign can be purchased at any auto goods store and even at a gas station, but most often such copies are far from the parameters required by the state.

It is also not forbidden to print the symbol yourself using a color printer. And some car owners even draw a sign by hand. In fact, how the pointer is made does not matter. The main thing is that if there are studded tires on the car, the car is equipped with a sign whose dimensions comply with the standards.

Where should the sign be placed?

As for the point where the pointer should be pasted, it must be placed on the back of the vehicle. Since there is no more specific information on this issue in the code of traffic rules, we can say that it is permissible to install a sign on the rear window of the car, both outside and inside, as well as on the lid or tailgate, and even on the bumper of the vehicle. In practice, the most optimal place for placing a sign is rear glass auto.

Responsibility for the absence of a sign

Since the absence of the “Spikes” symbol is equated to a malfunction of the vehicle, the traffic police inspector has the right to impose a penalty on the car owner in the form of a fine. This is regulated by Article 12.5 Administrative Code. Since the spring of 2017, the amount of the penalty is 500 rubles.

The “Spikes” sign, placed on a car with studded tires on it, has certain parameters established by the state. When preparing the index, you should carefully check whether its dimensions comply with the regulated standards. The slightest inaccuracy will lead to the fact that the identification mark will not have power, for which the car owner may be punished in the form of penalties.

In our country with its climatic conditions without exception, all car owners have to change the tires on the wheels of their cars twice a year. At the same time, winter tires can be presented in the most different options, including those equipped with special spikes. Such a product increases the cross-country ability of the car by slippery road, because it increases the coefficient of its adhesion with pavement. At the same time, other characteristics of the car's behavior on the road are changing, in connection with which the rules traffic oblige all drivers of cars with studded tires to stick the sign "Spikes". Many neglect this rule, so we decided to find out whether it is worth gluing this sign or not.

1. Why do we need the sign "Thorns"?

This sign can be found quite often on cars in winter time. Visually, it looks like an equilateral triangle. white color, surrounded by a red border and set with its top to the top. In the center of this triangle there is the letter "Ш", depicted in contrasting black. At the same time, according to the rules of the road, the size of the sign must be such that all other road users can see them without problems. Based on this, each side of the triangle of the sign "Thorns" must be no less than 20 centimeters. As for the width of the red border, it should be 10 times less than one side of the triangle (that is, at least 2 centimeters).

As for the place where it is necessary to place the sign "Spikes", this is also clearly stated in the operating rules. Vehicle. The sticker or sign "Spikes" must be installed on the rear window of the vehicle (if it is a cars). At the same time, it should be visible to all road users who are moving behind your car. Thus, the exact location of the sign can be adjusted, depending on the characteristics of the car. What caused the need for the sign "thorns"?

Availability winter tires on the wheels of the car provides him better cross in ice conditions or when falling into snowdrifts. At the same time, if the driver of such a car is forced to sharply apply the brakes, the length of his braking distance can be almost halved (again, the point is the presence of a reliable adhesion of rubber to the road). Thus, there is a real danger of a collision of cars, to prevent which the sign "Spikes" is installed.

According to the rules of the road, the driver of a vehicle who follows a car with studded tires and sees confirmation of this in the form of a sign "Spikes" is obliged to maximize the distance and constantly observe it. Then, in the event of sudden braking, it will not crash into the car in front, which, thanks to the spikes, can stop very abruptly.

In addition, the spikes on automotive rubber they don't stick very securely. It is not uncommon for them to simply fly out of the rubber while driving, when the number of revolutions of the wheel increases and it slips on a slippery road. In such a situation, a flying spike can fall directly into Windshield driving behind the car. However, if you again warn all road users that you have spikes, the correct one will help them avoid trouble and relieve you of any responsibility for damaging other people's property.

Thus, the “Spikes” sticker is not just “show-offs” and an attempt to show the coolness of your wheels. This is a real need, the implementation of which allows you to maximize the safety of the movement of cars on the road. Based on the fact that the need for such a sign is spelled out in the Rules of the Road, it is quite legal to install such a sign. But the question of whether it is possible to drive a car with studded tires without a sign is still controversial.

2. What is written in the law about the sign "Thorns" and the need for its use?

According to the Rules of the Road of Ukraine, or rather paragraph No. 30.3, the “Spikes” sign refers to identification marks and is installed on the rear of the vehicle in order to inform other road users about the presence of studded tires.

The absence of such a sign on your car, according to applicable laws, will not be regarded as an offense. However, if your vehicle becomes a participant, and at the same time there is no special sign on it that could warn the driver who entered you about the presence of studded tires, this fact will be entered into the protocol by the inspector. In the future, even if the collision was due to a malfunction of the other driver, you will also be liable because you did not warn him to keep his distance. All this is spelled out in clause No. 31.5, which prohibits the possibility of operating vehicles in the absence of identification marks, including those without the “Spikes” sign.

Based on this, we can conclude that for the time being, you can drive a car with studded tires and without an appropriate identification mark with complete impunity. So far, traffic police inspectors do not fine for this. But is it worth risking your own and others' safety for a simple cheap car sticker?

3. How is the correct installation of the sign "Spikes" carried out?

First of all, it is worth noting that the “Spikes” sign can be made on a thick piece of cardboard or plywood, or simply be a regular sticker that is applied to the car body or glass. Which option to choose is up to you to decide. We only want to note that when changing winter tires to summer sign"Spikes" you have to remove.

Although, in general, such an indication is not written anywhere, it is still not worth misleading other road users. Thus, if you install an appropriate sign near the rear window, when switching to summer tires, you can simply remove it. If a sticker is stuck on the glass, it will be more difficult to remove it. At the same time, after it, traces of glue may remain on the glass.

As for the basic rules for installing the Thorns sign, they are as follows:

1. The sign is glued or installed on the rear window of the car, as it is necessary as a warning to those drivers who are following you.

2. The sign must be placed in such a way that it can be clearly seen even from a distance of 20 meters.

3. In the event that the rear window of the car is tinted, the sign must be stuck on its outer part. If it is not toned, then it can be glued inside, thereby extending its service life.

In conclusion, I would like to say only that neglecting a cheap sticker on the rear window of a car can save not only you, but also other road users from trouble. Even if they can’t fine you for the absence of the “Ships” sign, you will still be violating current Rules road traffic.

IN car is not the same ON car (and UNDER glass - do not eat ON glass).

Go back to school, learn Russian!) And prepare money for a fine!)

Let's say they stopped on spikes without a sticker. How will things be with the traffic cops, with proving the fact that I am on spikes, if I write in the protocol that I am without spikes ?? Constant witnesses will be slowed down or photos (in which nothing is visible)?

Alexey-336

Alexei, if you decide to use the specified option, then please write here about the results of communication with the traffic police.

Good luck on the roads!

Necessarily. So I drive, they stopped me once, but they didn’t ask about the sign, only documents. By the way, according to the Code of Administrative Offenses, a fine / warning is provided EXCLUSIVELY FOR THE ABSENCE OF THE "SH" sign. From a legal point of view, lack of visibility and so on, so on, so on, are not grounds for a fine. IDPSniki in their activities guided by what? Regulatory documents or your opinion? What will the court be guided by?

From a legal point of view, the lack of visibility and so on, so on, so on, are not grounds for a fine. IDPSniki in their activities guided by what? Regulatory documents or your opinion? What will the court be guided by?

Why didn't you include common sense in this list?

Not common sense, but inner conviction(as it is written). And the inner conviction usually consists in the fact that the inspector cannot lie, because. he is in the service, and the suspect's arguments were invented by him in order to avoid responsibility.

I mean common sense obviously not enough for those drivers who attach the sign behind a dull tinted glass, or even in the trunk. Like, what, in the back of the car, as prescribed ...

Hello! What if the tires are not studded?

Salute, comrades! And how do you like the idea that if there is no studable inscription on the tire, then no letter W is needed ???

Or maybe it's not a tire at all? After all, it does not have the inscription "tire"!

Sorry emoticons???

What are the inspectors doing? They stupidly read bukafki in the traffic rules, where it says "studded tires" ... Does the wording bother anyone?

So I was not too lazy and tried to figure it out ... Whoever has the time - google GOST 54916 and the Hedgehog, in the meantime, in all seriousness, goes to look for such an inscription on his winter ...

Sorry, but it seems to me that this is what is called "turn on the fool." You will be listened to, laughed at and decorated.

I do not understand, is it really so difficult to stick a sign? Why these adventures on the fifth point?

But nevertheless - good luck!

There is no dispute with this point of view. But I have a different...

This autumn, the inspectors already had enough opportunities to mock, laugh, formalize - it's only one thing to "turn on the fool" and quite another - to let them make a fool out of themselves ...

This is lyric. On the case: I did not find such an inscription on my Cooper Wather-Master. I also rummaged through almost the entire assortment with spikes in MetroCC - yes, not the most specialized store, I just passed by - the designations indicated in GOST are, at first glance, very rare; more precisely, I managed to find at least something from only one manufacturer, if there is interest, I will post a photo ...

By the way, Oleg, did you google GOST?

If anyone has enough pressure - give me criticism, I seriously believe that I have found an antidote for "nonsense with a capital W".

The puzzle has developed, everything is logical: the sign is needed only for owners of studded rubber, which among total weight not very much. And, I hope, the vast majority of rustling wheels fall under the definition that appears in the technical regulations Customs Union, namely: tires with anti-skid spikes.

In short, if the inspector claims that you "manage an MTS with studded tires", and in fact there is no studable or studdet in the marking (a separate bow to the authors of GOST 54916 for just such a spelling), then you will have to separately pay attention, probably just not enough competent, employee to the fact that these are only "tires with anti-skid studs", and they do not scatter studs, do not affect the braking distance, do not smell of melon and, accordingly, do not require additional designation proudly shod in their car.

I respect your meticulousness and scrupulousness, but I think that they are worthy best use, sorry.

Thank you for the kind words))

Are there any other thoughts on this on the forum?

Maxim, it would be interesting to hear your opinion about the interpretation of the word "studded" ...

Sorry everyone for the stubbornness...

Alexey-336

Who has time - google GOST 54916

Control shot

Thanks, Alexey!

Structurally))

What are inspectors monitoring?

SDA - BASIC PROVISIONS FOR THE ADMISSION OF VEHICLES FOR OPERATION ...

8. The following identification marks must be installed on vehicles:

... "Spikes" - in the form of an equilateral triangle of white color with the top up with a red border, into which the letter "Ш" is inscribed in black (the side of the triangle is not less than 200 mm, the width of the border is 1/10 of the side) - behind motor vehicles having studded tires;

what are studded tires?

GOST R 54916-2012 Studded pneumatic tires...

3 Terms and definitions

and if there are no such markings on the tire, can it not be operated at all?

TECHNICAL REGULATIONS OF THE CUSTOMS UNION TR TS 018/2011 On the safety of wheeled vehicles ...

5. Requirements for tires and wheels

5.1. Vehicles must be equipped with tires in accordance with the operational documentation of vehicle manufacturers ...

5.4. Tires with anti-skid studs, if used, must be fitted to all wheels of the vehicle.

5.5. It is forbidden to operate vehicles equipped with tires with anti-skid studs in summer period(June July August). It is forbidden to operate vehicles that are not equipped with winter tires that meet the requirements of paragraph 5.6.3 of this annex in winter period(December January February). Winter tires are installed on all wheels of the vehicle. The terms of the prohibition of operation can be changed upwards by regional authorities government controlled member states of the Customs Union

So I examined my tires - there are no markings about studding on them, but there are studs, which means it's just rubber with anti-skid studs, and not studded - that is, I can ride them except for three summer months (I'm not really going to), but You don't have to put up a sign...

Do I get it right?

a really crazy idea, but I stuck it to myself for every fireman.

moreover, healthy as it is correct according to the state standard. 20 to 20.

dobriEjik, I completely agree with Oleg, what he told you about)

GOST. 3.3 studded tire winter tire with anti-skid spikes installed in the lugs of the tread pattern.

You bought a studded tire. Is she winter? Yes, because either a snowflake is drawn, or the corresponding letter stands. Spikes installed? Yes. So what tire is this? That's right, and according to logic, and according to the definition, studded! (It makes no sense for the plant to apply some other special inscription, because given type tire reaches the consumer necessarily already with spikes).

And clause 3.2 applies to tires that are still without studs, but with designated places under the spikes, and the indicated inscription distinguishes such tires. (Ie the consumer is free to install the spikes he needs).

All IMHO)

That is, sorry, this logic is not correct in your opinion:

just three definitions

3.1 winter tire: Pneumatic tire, a tread pattern whose tread rubber or construction is primarily designed to achieve the best performance in snow conditions operational properties than a conventional (road) tire in terms of its ability to start, keep or stop the movement of the vehicle.

3.2 winter tire subject to studding: A winter tire that has a stud pattern or stud holes specified by the tire manufacturer on the lugs of the tread pattern and is marked with the mandatory inscription studable or studdet.

3.3 studded tyre: A winter tire to be studded with anti-skid studs installed in the projections of the tread pattern.

putting it together we get that

A studded tire is a pneumatic tire with a tread pattern whose tread rubber or construction is predominantly designed to perform in snow conditions better than a conventional (road) tire in terms of its ability to start, keep or stop the movement of a vehicle whose tread pattern tabs are marked with stud pattern or there are holes for anti-skid studs specified by the tire manufacturer and on which the obligatory inscription studable or studdet is applied with anti-skid studs installed in the projections of the tread pattern.

No, it's not reinforced concrete???

Vladimir-251

I specifically searched Google for at least one "Ш" sign in other countries. Nowhere, not in any country. Why even this notion?

Oleg-123, Hello.

If the tires are not studded, then the sign "Spikes" is not needed.

Good luck on the roads!

Eugene-183

Eugene-183,

studded - this is when the studs are installed. You can ride in the summer (if the spikes remain, you need to pull them all out), but on asphalt at speed it keeps worse than summer; but it rows better in the mud.

And if I have all the spikes flying out, is it spiked? I turned it into a summer one and will ride until the tread wears off!?

Well, in my opinion, it will not become especially summer))

there is an opinion (again, GOST 54916) that

winter tyre: A pneumatic tire whose tread pattern, tread rubber or construction is primarily designed to perform in snow conditions better than a conventional (road) tire in terms of its ability to start, keep or stop a vehicle

Now (in 2017) there are a lot of different myths and rumors about the so-called "THORNS" sign. Some say that it is not mandatory and it is not necessary to glue it, others that it is mandatory and if it is not applied from behind, there will be a fine, others do not glue it correct sizes, black and white printed on a printer - in general, there is a lot of confusion now! Well, let's, as they say, "separate the flies from the cutlets", let's figure it out, as usual there will be a video version at the end ...

At the very beginning, I would like to say WHAT IS IT WORTH GLUEING , for the law says - WHAT IT IS MANDATORY! And now there are many precedents - when you drive into a car from behind, before you were always right! And now, if there is no sign, it can recognize mutual responsibility or even that YOU are wrong, because there is no sign of THORNS! In any case, CMTPL and CASCO cases are dragged out due to some kind of sticker

What does the law say? What is the penalty?

Friends, this sign is now MANDATORY - they prescribed it in article 12.5 part 1 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation and if you do not stick it on your car, you can incur a fine of 500 rubles, here is a small squeeze:

provides for responsibility for driving a vehicle in the presence of malfunctions or conditions under which, in accordance with the “Basic Provisions for the Admission of Vehicles to Operation and Obligations officials for ensuring road safety, the operation of the vehicle is prohibited, with the exception of malfunctions and conditions specified in parts 2 - 7 of article 12.5 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation.

It seems like in the article itself there is an explanation by the NO sign! But here there is a clause “basic provisions”, but they already verbatim chewed what and how:

Clause 8 of the "Basic Provisions for the Admission of Vehicles to Operation and the Duties of Officials for Ensuring Road Safety", vehicles must be equipped with an identification sign "Spikes" - in the form of an equilateral triangle of white color with the top up with a red border, in which the letter “Sh” is entered in black (the side of the triangle is not less than 200 mm, the width of the border is 1/10 of the side) - behind motor vehicles with studded tires.

It turns out that if you do not comply with these "article" and "regulation" then you can get a fine of 500 rubles , as stated in the same 12.5 part 1 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation.

Dimensions according to GOST, can I do it myself?

If you read the position, then it describes what it should be according to GOST - I repeat once again EQUILATERAL, TRIANGLE SIDE 200 mm, line thickness 1/10 of the side (i.e. 2 cm), and always red, and the letter “Ш” is black, must be on a white background .

Can it be done by hand? YES OF COURSE YOU CAN! The main thing is that it meets all the requirements and be made in accordance with GOST, be colored, etc. I mean, you can’t just print black and white on an A4 sheet. That is, we take a color printer and go.

However, I think it's better to buy for 30 - 50 rubles (in the capital, like up to 100) and stick it on the outside. The whole problem with the printed one is that you need to find a color printer, then somehow fix it (adhesive tape to help), and it turns out you need to install it inside because rain can wash it away from the outside.

There are misconceptions that it can only be mounted on the rear glass from above (right or left), but this is not entirely true. Neither in the article nor in the regulation is there a point where and how it needs to be fixed, the only thing that the traffic police can pay attention to is whether it is blocked by tinting (that is, it must be read otherwise they can slap a fine), and also, as one inspector told me that it needs to be read from 20 meters (although this is not in the law and regulations).

That is, to summarize - you can GLUE anywhere, even on the bumper, even on the back cover (let's say if you have a hatchback or station wagon, it's still not so convenient on a sedan). There will be no punishment here.

What is the date of this law?

There was an article before, but it did not punish, but simply recommended, so the traffic police officer could not punish you, but could only recommend!

BUT from April 4, 2017, amendments have appeared that now introduce a fine if you do not have this sign! Once again I repeat - NOW HE IS MANDATORY!

They throw me a lot of videos that now the SHIPS sign is not needed ... BUT friends, we read article 12.5 part 1 + provisions, everything is painted in black and white. You don't have to be smarter than everyone.

When is it not necessary to glue?

Everything is simple here - if you have or “all-weather” then gluing is NOT MANDATORY! For this sign works ONLY for studded tires. So you can drive safely.

Another question - “what will happen if you fix the sign (or you already have it), and you have Velcro or all-weather? Is there a punishment for this? ANSWER - nothing will happen, the Code of Administrative Offenses does not say anything about this responsibility, which means there are NO penalties.

Now watch the video version

This concludes, I think all your questions have been resolved. Sincerely yours AUTOBLOGGER.
