For the first acquaintance, we will subject the brushes we have taken to a fairly simple but revealing test. As part of this, each of the “wipers” will have to remove the fatty kefir poured onto the glass in one pass “back and forth”, and then work for half a minute on clean glass rinsed with a “washer”.

This experience should demonstrate to us the quality of the brush, which was originally laid down in the production, just taken out of the package and does not yet have a “mileage”. Here we will check the brushes for the presence of “crushing”, which will be clear from the vertical fan mark after passing through dirty glass, as well as the sharpness of the working edge of the tape and the uniformity of the pressing force, which will be indicated by horizontal strokes along the radius of the passage. Also, when working on clean glass, we will evaluate the noise level of the brushes.

"Autovirage". Price 159 rubles

The most affordable, but not the best brush. After passing through the dirty glass, a fan trail of two vertical stripes was found in the lower left edge of the working area, and a smear along the radius of the passage was found in the upper right. The brush failed to remove dirt from the glass (without a washer) - a slightly noticeable fatty film remained. But in terms of noise level, the brush showed itself well: there are squeaks when passing through clean glass, but they are not too sharp and you can hardly hear them from the passenger compartment. Four adapters are included in the kit, which allows you to put the brush on most common car models with different types leash attachments.

Bosch Aerotween. Price 489 rubles

One of our colleagues, turning the package in his hands, expressed the opinion that we got a fake. But no, the brush turned out to be branded and tested eminent brand confirmed their status. After passing through the contaminated glass, we did not find any fan marks or smears along the radius. The brush completely cleaned the middle area without a washer, and only a thin fatty film remained at the edges of the working area. Acoustic comfort also turned out to be on top - when working on clean glass, the brush almost does not creak. Our version had only one mounting option: on a leash with a “hook” connector.

Champion Contact. Price 629 rubles

The most expensive brush of all participating in our test, but for the work these "wipers" charge well deservedly. The quality of cleaning "experienced" pollution here is on par with the brushes "Bosch" - also no "fans" and strokes after the passage were found. The median area without washer was completely cleared. There are practically no creaks on clean glass.

phantom. Price 265 rubles

In terms of the quality of pollution cleaning, it showed itself at the level of the Avtovirazh brush: after passing through the glass, the Phantom also left a small fan mark on the lower left and a smear along the radius, which turned out to be on the upper left here. It was not possible to remove the glass without a washer - a slightly noticeable matte film remained. But with the noise, things are a little better here: the brush almost does not creak. The set includes three adapters for different leashes.

Rain Blade Select. Price 399 rubles

Relatively new brand in a market that does not yet have a “brand markup”. And the brush proved to be on the same level with the eminent competitors Bosch and Champion. After passing through the glass with contamination, there were also no fan marks and smears along the radius. The middle area without washer was cleaned clean, without any residual greasy film. In terms of acoustic comfort, the brush is also not inferior to the “masters” - the “RainBlade” “sounds” softly and does not creak. Moreover, the brush has an original universal mount, suitable for almost all types of connectors used on various cars different years of release.

RainBlade brushes attract attention, because with almost the same characteristics as the "leaders", they are 20% cheaper than Bosch brushes and almost one and a half times cheaper than the "Champions". However, ahead are resource tests that can bring their own adjustments.

So let's start the second part of testing and install brushes on editorial cars. Let's find out how long the "leaders" will be able to maintain their qualities and whether any of the "catching up" will be able to catch up with them over time..

Winter. A rare day in our latitudes goes without having to use the wipers on a trip. Now a blizzard, then a thaw with rain. On the roads there is an oily-soil suspension, in the cities there is a liquid acid-salty porridge in any weather ... Therefore, we continued to test the wiper blades, paying close attention to the models recommended for winter.

In the cold season, the wipers on the windshield have a hard time: frozen water in all its diversity is no better than a myriad of insects and sticky seeds. Falling snow freezes on the working brushes into an ice block, and on the cooling glass during the parking time it has time to form a strong translucent shell. Frost after a wet thaw glues the rubber bands of the wipers to the surface to death, so much so that their edge can come off the base if you try to tear them off by force.

But how are there special Winter tires, so there are special winter brushes, which should be more resistant to the vagaries of the weather. They use frost-resistant grades of rubber, which better retain elasticity at minus temperatures, and hide the elastic frame vulnerable to ice. But how much do these tricks help, and which option is better for a motorist?

To figure it out, we took five popular models brushes recommended for the cold season, differing in price level and design, and set off to travel around winter roads. The test vehicle is the same as in the fall, a Toyota Land Cruiser with a windshield angle of 52 degrees to the horizon. The size of the brushes is 40 cm, the fastening is a hook. The condition of the glass remains the same, that is, without scuffs and with three small chips. So we have the opportunity to correctly compare the behavior of the new tested brushes with those that participated in the autumn tests.

The end of the October tests unexpectedly fell on a sudden cold snap with heavy snow, which made it possible to imagine how the experimental specimens would behave in the winter. Snowfall was not included in the mandatory program, but it made it possible to feel the effectiveness of the subjects in the entire range of weather conditions. The result was predictable: wet snow stuck to all models, but the frame ones lost their performance much earlier than the frameless and hybrid ones. Despite the giant snow growths on the sides of the working gum, the last two continued and continued to clean. This prompted the idea to use Denso hybrid brushes, which have become the absolute leader in autumn tests, in winter tests. And add two frameless models to them: comparable in price and the most expensive, two classic winter models in a protective case, expensive and cheap.

Our candidates

Denso Wiper Blade

The spread of prices for models suitable for winter turned out to be less than for summer ones. First of all, by reducing the cheap segment. The last time the most expensive hybrid Denso Wiper Blade this time it was in the middle of the list, practically unchanged in price. Its design is based on a two-hinged metal frame, covered on top with a plastic spoiler of three movably connected parts. It is pivotally connected to the frame elements and tightly covers the mechanism from dirt flying from the outside and sticking snow, although it does not provide tightness. In addition, the spoiler is designed to more tightly press the brush to the glass by the oncoming air flow on high speeds. The brush is made neatly, gracefully, and massively at the same time. Fastening only under a hook, it is impossible to change the adapter structurally.

Valeo First

The same money costs frameless Valeo First, the lightest among the test subjects, but ... looking more massive than a similar in design and objectively heavier Bosch model. From the outside, the frameless Valeo looks like a one-piece cast, but it has an external soft rubber boot that loosely fits elastic metal elements and consists of two parts. The "shelter" is not completely airtight, although it does not leave gaps. A sharp ridge along the upper surface serves to enhance the aerodynamic pressure on the glass. The universal mount with interchangeable adapters included in the kit allows you to use these brushes on a huge number of cars. Moreover, standard sizes of the seat make it possible to use, if necessary, adapters of other brands and easily put these brushes on almost any machine.

Bosch Aerotwin

The most expensive model with a margin of two hundred rubles from the second place this time was a frameless brush Bosch Aerotwin from the brand's flagship line. Outwardly and structurally, it is very similar to Valeo, but the outer shell is tougher here, although it also consists of two parts and has mobility. The firm appears to be deliberately not divulging details about the materials the brush is made of. On the official site, there are only streamlined mentions of a wear-resistant working edge coating and a two-component elastic band. Ibid plain text stated: "ice does not freeze to the brush." Well, this is already interesting. Despite the fact that the mount with interchangeable adapters is made differently than that of Valeo, it is also freely compatible with all Bosch adapters from brushes of any series. But to install adapters from competitors, a little refinement will be required, after which it will be possible to install a frameless Bosch through almost any adapter.

Champion Winter

Packed in soft cases, winter brushes occupied the lower price segment in tests. The protected frame structure was invented specifically for winter conditions, so the height of the working gum here is twice as high as that of summer and all-season models - it is easier to deal with snowdrifts sticking to glass and self-clean from ice. One of the most popular and expensive brushes of this design is Champion Winter. Surprisingly, the United States is indicated as the country of production on their packaging. This is probably why this model is longer than the rest: the Americans do not have the metric system in honor, but 16 inches is still almost 41 cm. Champion is lighter even than Denso and a little heavier than demon wireframe models. The smooth rubber of the cover is not the most pleasant to the touch and smell, so even for a moment there is doubt about the origin of the product. But it is dissipated by solid rivets and the impeccable execution of the metal fastener. By the way, any adapters from Champion frame brushes and most competing brands are suitable for it.

Mega power

The cheapest model in the current testing, as well as in the autumn, is represented by the brand Mega power. Then the brushes of this Russian-Chinese brand proved to be surprisingly good and took the lead in terms of price-quality ratio. Judging by what you can feel under the cover, inside the winter model there is the same frame with double hinges as in the summer one. At the same time, the rubber of the cover itself is a little rough and pleasant to the touch, the endings look high quality, and the mounting assembly is rather complex in shape. But at the same time, it is suitable for only two types of fastening: for a hook and a flat pin without protruding latches, and it seems that the change of a single double adapter is not provided.

Put on and take off

Traditionally, we begin the assessment of brushes with installation and removal exercises. It was easiest to snap and then detach the Valeo. And, if it is not difficult to put all the brushes under test with hands in thick gloves, then only these are convenient to remove without baring your fingers. Despite a more complex mounting assembly with a lid, MegaPower was also not delivered big trouble. But still, the lid and the thin tongue of the latch require you to first remove the gloves when removing the brush. The similarly designed Denso mechanism is stiffer, which makes it much more difficult to remove and install, especially when snow gets inside the adapter. But they hold on tighter, with virtually no backlash. It is even more difficult to shoot Bosch, which require precise synchronous finger pressure on the clasp on both sides. But at the same time they are put on very easily - no more difficult than Valeo. Champion turned out to be the most capricious in terms of installation, despite the simplest design of the mounting assembly. Due to the tight fit on the wiper arm, the adapter stays on it more firmly than on the brush - and remains on the arm when removed. And everything would be fine, but after installation, you need to make sure that the adapter has not come off the lever - otherwise, during operation, the brush may slide off it at the most inopportune moment, or even fly away. But when the adapter is fastened properly, the Champion is held firmly and practically does not play.

Liquid and solid water

All the subjects easily coped with the task of brushing off the liquid from the glass surface being cleaned in one full pass. Moreover, this time there was less water than in a similar summer test. On the one hand, a downpour in our area in winter is almost unbelievable, at best (or worst) it will be a dull drizzle. On the other hand, watering from a hose in a fifteen-degree frost adds unjustified difficulties to the testing process, including an objective assessment of the result. Therefore, on the entire surface of the windshield, we evenly apply from a spray bottle antifreeze liquid. We pour without stint until it begins to flow in abundant streams. The wiper lever in the position of a single stroke - and look at the result. But there is nothing to compare: to our surprise, everyone is equally clean, without streaks, marks and stripes. Great!

Now let's complicate the task. There were brushes perfectly clean - they will be in the snow. We dip, without wiping after the first task, we take the subjects for some time into a snowdrift, take them out, look at them and, without shaking them off, put them to work: we make a single stroke on clean glass. After snow bathing, frozen snowflakes remained on all the brushes. Denso has the most, as the snow got under the spoiler, the least for both frame models - Champion and MegaPower. As a result, only these two pairs did not leave any traces on the glass. The other three models left behind approximately the same minimum wet stripes. At the same time, quite unexpectedly, Denso, having collected the most snow, gave even a few fewer lanes than frameless competitors.

Ice test

We develop the topic of icing further. Sometimes, after a wet thaw, cold comes abruptly - and the windshield is covered with an ice crust. In the same way, the brushes also freeze over, even if they are folded away from the windshield. But their tendency to icing is different: ice glaze clings to different materials, even if they are all called the common word "rubber". For clarity, wet brushes are sent to the freezer, where -20 ° C. And the next day we take it out, and, having isolated it from home heat, we take it out into the street, where it is -10 ° C. We unfold, study the ice, paying attention to the preservation of the elasticity of the mechanism and the icing of the working edge. And what? The edge of the MegaPower was the least frozen - there was almost no ice on it. Well, it is not for nothing that fluoroplastic is often used in industry as an anti-icing coating. Graphite turned out to be less resistant: the rest of the brushes had more frost on the working edge, but also in different ways. To a lesser extent, Bosch and Champion, just a little more - Valeo. But Denso reacted worst of all to icing. These brushes were the only ones in which the ice broke correct work hinges, causing the entire mechanism to lose flexibility and elasticity. During the experiment, Denso iced up inside, which means that if they were on the car, they would have to be cleaned for a long time or even removed and warmed up.

Like snow on your head

The most severe test for winter brushes is heavy snowfall. And if you often drive along narrow forest paths, then snowdrifts falling from trees when the roof tall car clings to low hanging heavy branches. So, we imitate snow ... with the help of snow. Plentifully throw it on the windshield, trying to distribute the white cover as evenly as possible. The warm engine is running and saloon stove blows from the inside on the glass at the second fan speed out of four possible. This maintains the optimum temperature on the outer surface: the snow cover slowly melts and tries to start sticking to the cold brushes. Again one stroke - and look at the result. If it's not clean enough, keep rubbing, counting the strokes.

In some ways, this experiment reminded me of the autumn exercise with wet mud. Here, too, in order to get an objective result, I had to repeat the same thing several times with each pair of brushes and track the trend. The results of each specific measurement were influenced by how the snow was thrown onto the glass: it turned out to be physically impossible to achieve a uniform height and density of snow cover on the entire windshield, and even in each attempt. Plus, in the course of the work it turned out that the results are greatly worsened by solid frozen drifts of snow removed from the glass, which accumulate at the base of the wipers during the experiment. They simply press the levers away from the glass, reducing the pressure on the brushes. Therefore, for an objective assessment, we had to remove these frozen clods each time - and, in the end, we achieved reliable repeatability of the results, allowing us to draw conclusions. Best of all, brushes coped with the task from the first stroke Bosch- almost always perfectly clean, with minimal marks and streaks. The rest required at least two passes for the same purity. After the first time Valeo, Champion And Denso left small wet stripes and spots, a little more moisture was diluted Mega Power. The second stroke changes the picture once again: MegaPower are rehabilitated, bringing the glass to almost perfect condition, and Denso does leave it dry. But Champion's progress is less pronounced - he still leaves thin wet stripes. But the result is even worse for Valeo: these brushes, in addition to stripes, leave wet spots, so they need three strokes to dry glass comparable to competitors.

There's been a blizzard...

Bench tests left a lot to think about, identifying the leading models among competitors, but showing a relatively small spread of results in all exercises between the first and last. Field tests during trips in all manifestations of winter weather added lively details to our test.

Pushkin very accurately called this state of the weather - "there was a blizzard." Just now everything was clean and almost clear, light snowflakes in the air were melting in small drops on the glass - and now everything was covered in a white veil, and heavy flakes of snow seemed to be rushing at you solidly. dense stream. The wipers do not have time to cope with the volume of falling snow, and it does not have time to melt from the warm glass ... Soon a dense ice crust freezes in the corners and on the brushes themselves. It is getting larger and is gaining on all models, including Bosch, about which it is officially written that ice does not freeze to them.

But, despite this, all winter brushes do their job very well. Not without streaks and streaks, but they continue to keep the glass clean enough for safe driving in these most difficult winter conditions. Sometimes, however, quite rarely, all the subjects demand to shake off the accumulating ice - as a rule, it falls off on its own before it begins to noticeably spoil the work of the wipers. According to our observations, how quickly the ice freezes and how firmly the ice holds, in practice, depends primarily on the weather and, to a lesser extent, on the model of the brushes. But in any conditions, better than others during operation, they self-clean from adhering Ice Champion and Megapower. The fact is that these sheathed models have a higher and more flexible working edge than all the others.

However, even Denso passed the blizzard test with dignity, despite the semi-open design of the hinged spring mechanism. Their spoiler turned out to be amazingly effective - on the move, the snow almost did not clog inside the frame. And even in the parking lot, when after a heavy snowfall the brushes were completely covered with thick snow, all their hinges remained mobile. The main thing is that at this time there should be no transitions of the ambient temperature back and forth through zero.

In a thaw on a busy highway with a dirty suspension above the road, stretching like a train behind each truck, the wipers have to work almost incessantly. And here it is not easier for them than in a snowstorm. In addition, periodically you have to use a washer - otherwise dirt accumulates on the working edge and traces begin to remain.

But even so, it is not easy to achieve perfection: too much water - the left brush on the reverse course drags it along a few centimeters along the entire height, too little water - dirty streaks appear. And so it is with all models. But with a slight difference in the results: in such conditions, Bosch and Denso brushes work cleaner than others, Valeo and MegaPower work a little worse, and Champion streaks stronger than others.

However, while the brushes are new, the difference in results was not so great. But we tested them, periodically alternating, throughout the winter - and by spring the differences gradually began to become clearer. Although, we must pay tribute, not a single model gave up ahead of time. So you can be sure that any of our test kits should be enough for the season.

Outcome

Differences in the effectiveness of new brushes, according to the results winter tests, were not very large. And the direct dependence of quality on price was violated. However, the most expensive model Bosch Aero Tween deservedly took first place in the total results of all tests - and we can safely recommend it to those who are less concerned about the price. Unexpectedly, the Denso hybrid brushes performed very well, the design of which, it would seem, is not well suited for winter. You can safely “forget” to change them after summer season- and they will continue to work as if nothing had happened. Therefore, close in price frameless Valeo model it simply does not make economic sense, since in most tests it lost to the “hybrid”. Champion also lost his championship positions: in a blizzard with large snow flakes, he does his job well, but the mud suspended in the air is hard for him. Under the same conditions, cheaper closed MegaPower behave at least no worse, and sometimes even better in some ways. And in general, according to the results of the current tests, they show the best value for money.

Anyone, even a novice motorist, will tell you that impeccable visibility is the key to safe driving. And it's not just about quality headlights, the cleanliness of the windshield also plays important role. That's why right choice devices for removing moisture and dirt from the windshield glass surface must take into account how weather, and technical specifications products.

Anyone interested in the rating of wipers should take into account their design features. Regardless of the fact that in the entire history of its existence, car wipers have received practically no special changes, manufacturers do not stop improving their products. There are already four types of brushes at the service of motorists:

  1. Frame.
  2. Frameless.
  3. Hybrid.
  4. Winter.

The last category for winter weather we will consider in another article . We only note that the main difference between winter samples and summer ones is as follows:

  • gum for winter version made on the basis of silicone;
  • summer version of rubber contains a mixture of silicone, rubber and graphite;
  • specimens for winter have a rigid metal frame and are equipped with a rubber cover that ensures the mobility of the wipers in frosty weather.

The remaining species can be called both summer and universal. Let's briefly consider the characteristics and features of each of them.

Frame structures

Not so long ago, this type of cleaning products windshield was a non-alternative solution. Now motorists quite often use this classic design as a summer option. Which frame wiper blades are better and we will find out the test of some well-known models later, and now we will announce their advantages:

  • Affordable price of the product itself, as well as a cleaning tape that can be changed.
  • An elementary installation, accessible even to a beginner.
  • The multi-tiered frame perfectly adapts the elastic to the curves of the windshield.
  • Some models are equipped with a plastic casing that allows you to protect the hinges from dust and dirt.

Significant disadvantage frame mechanism can be called the presence of hinges in the design. Bushing wear leads to foreign , as well as poor performance of the system. Unpleasant weather for such wipers is sleet and temperatures around 0°C. In such weather, the frame and gum quickly clog and freeze, while delivering considerable discomfort to the driver.

Frameless systems

(function(w, d, n, s, t) ( w[n] = w[n] || ; w[n].push(function() ( Ya.Context.AdvManager.render(( blockId: "R-A -227463-10", renderTo: "yandex_rtb_R-A-227463-10", async: true )); )); t = d.getElementsByTagName("script"); s = d.createElement("script"); s .type = "text/javascript"; s.src = "//an.yandex.ru/system/context.js"; s.async = true; t.parentNode.insertBefore(s, t); ))(this , this.document, "yandexContextAsyncCallbacks");

The idea of "frameless" is a solid metal plate, which is placed in a rubber-plastic housing. Due to this, the case has a rigid structure and provides a snug fit over the entire plane of the glass. According to many motorists, a frameless system has several advantages:

  • Lack of swivel joints;
  • Structural elements are not subject to corrosion;
  • While the machine is moving, the headwind presses the brushes harder;
  • Versatility, the ability to use in snow and ice;
  • The presence of a wear indicator makes it possible to replace the cleaning element in time;
  • Low profile and attractive design.

Looking at the rating of summer wipers, you need to keep in mind the fact that the main disadvantage of frameless designs is their cost, which far exceeds the price of framed specimens. Although the resource of devices without a frame is somewhat higher, it is impossible to replace a rubber blade separately - the product changes completely.

hybrid designs

The essence of the system is to combine the above types under one compact casing. The design can be called universal, but not so much that it prevents moisture from freezing in the hinges. Despite this, many drivers use them year-round.

A powerful hinged frame presses the rubber blade against glass with any profile. High prices for hybrid models are offset by their long service life, as well as the quality of cleaning.

Brush attachment types

Many experts attribute the variety of ways to install windshield wipers to the desire of manufacturers to get Additional income. The most common types of connections:

  • Hook (Hook or J-hook).
  • Side pin (Side pin).
  • Latch (Push-button).
  • Frontal (Pin-lock).
  • Lateral (Side mounting).
  • Side clamp (Pinch tab).
  • Bayonet lock (Bayonet arm).
  • Top lock.

Anyone wondering which wiper blades are best on popular tests, must take into account the fact that Bosch and Valeo traditionally differ in their specific fastenings. Most of them are designed for specific models auto. This approach makes it possible to take into account a certain curvature of the windshield of the model.

Brands such as SWF and Champion have taken the path of producing products with universal adapters. This technology makes it easy to choose the right brushes, but their installation is fraught with some difficulties.

What is the rating of framed wiper blades?

Most of the test processes are based on the requirements of the industrial standard TU 38.105254-79. Evaluation procedure summer models consists of the following transitions:

  • checking the quality of cleaning wet glass with a single stroke of the wipers;
  • assessment of the quality of cleaning after a double stroke (full operating cycle);
  • wind tunnel test with simulated rain and speed air flow 80 km / h, followed by its increase in increments of 10 km / h;
  • checking the degree of fit of the blade to the glass in the park (lower) position;
  • assessment of the degree of heat resistance, when the brush is placed in an oven with a temperature of +60 ° C for 4 days, then its elasticity and cleaning quality are checked in a single stroke;
  • test for resistance to washing liquids - the sample is immersed for a day in a 50% solution of isopropyl alcohol in distilled water + 70 ° C with further verification of the quality of cleaning;
  • life tests for 200 hours of operation with subsequent assessment of the quality of cleaning with a single stroke.

To compile a rating of summer frame wipers, we will use the test events conducted by the Autoreview magazine. The final list is interesting because the editors used about 20 samples in the process. The top five looks like this:

  • Champion X51E– The brushes do an excellent job of cleaning the windshield and are resistant to heat. Minor corrosion noted and slight looseness of the hinges after the life test. According to the reviews of motorists, they are guaranteed to work for 6-12 months, after which a squeak may appear.
  • SWF 116203- could well have been in first place, but insufficiently elastic rubber band failed. Although, this defect appears only at temperatures below zero, so this product is a good choice for the summer season.
  • Rinco S51- an inexpensive universal option from Japan with 8 pressure points. All parameters are quite stable, but the impression is spoiled by unsatisfactory fastening. Also identified shortcomings in terms of corrosion and unreliability of the frame.
  • Bosch 500S– the traditional scheme of the frame with six pressure points, the product looks presentable. The gaps in the hinges are minimal, but the fit to the glass is unsatisfactory - the edges hang in the air.
  • Valeo C51- wipers, although from a "pedigreed" manufacturer, but at high speed the aerodynamic pressure of the spoiler is so high that it starts to hit the glass. After 200 hours of life test, the cleaning quality has dropped to an unacceptable level.

What does the test of frameless wiper blades show and which models are better?

Since the test technology has already been described above, we will consider their results in this category of devices:

  • Valeo UM650- all checks the model passed with a bang, even resource ones. The only thing that can upset is that she is not able to withstand low temperatures. However, here we are looking at the test and which frameless wiper blades are best for mild climates.
  • Alca Super Flat Graphite- inexpensive wipers, but having a number of technological solutions on board. A spring made of high-quality steel evenly distributes the blade on the glass. The rubber band is made using Liquid-Fix graphite for quiet operation.
  • Maruenu AS- a real Japanese product, made of rubber, followed by graphite impregnation to reduce friction. The model showed good resistance to chemical components. A nice addition is the ability to replace the gum. Not particularly impressive aerodynamic performance, so a worthy third place.
  • Rinco F51- a constructive copy of the Valeo UM650, but much cheaper than the original. Unfortunately, under the influence of heat and "chemistry" rubber is deformed and demonstrates unstable quality.
  • Horse Acrobat- one of the most affordable brushes, but despite this they showed quite a decent result after tests of heat, washer fluid and speed. The product took the last place in the top five due to a poor fit along the edges and a massive attachment point, which creates problems with aerodynamics.

Basics of the right choice

It is possible that you will like a model that is not included in the rating car wipers, but there is no doubt test it yourself! In this process, the advice of experienced motorists will come in handy:

  • The spring structures of the frame should press the rubber blade tightly against the glass, but at the same time not interfere with elasticity.
  • The fixing unit must fit your car or be universal.
  • The frame material must be of high quality.
  • Pay attention to the size of the wipers, the size mismatch will not allow you to achieve the desired result.
  • The rubber blade must be resistant to heat and chemicals, the best option is rubber.

During the cold winter months, snow, slush, and de-icing agents on the windshield can cause problems while driving. If you've been using your wipers for the past six months, it's time to check and possibly replace them with winter wiper blades. Which is better to choose?

To answer this question, we looked at the reviews on various specialized sites, studied the results of comparative tests and chose the best winter car wipers that deserved the highest ratings with relatively few complaints. When ranking, such criteria as the popularity of the manufacturer in the Russian market and the price of wipers were also taken into account.

5. Horse Acrobat

  • The price is from 408 rubles.
  • Length - from 41 to 65 cm

These all-weather wipers from a Russian manufacturer are suitable for both left-hand drive and right-hand drive cars. The creators have adapted the brushes to the Russian winter as much as possible. They do not have hinges and cavities where ice can linger, which increases the performance of the product in frosty conditions and high humidity. Acrobat is resistant to anti-icing agents due to its anti-corrosion properties. The frame of the wipers is protected by a silicone spoiler. You can buy replacement rubber bands for the brushes.

Disadvantages: when changing the direction of the wipers, a click sometimes occurs, possibly due to the fact that they are pressed too tightly against the glass. Many reviews have complaints about squeaks on dry glass. When driving at speeds above 120 km per hour, the brushes move away from the glass.

4 Alca Winter

  • The price is from 483 rubles.
  • Length - from 33 cm to 65 cm.

Continues the top of the best winter brushes windshield wiper 2016 chinese model German brand in a rubber case, designed for passenger cars.

Advantages: thanks to the protective casing, ice does not clog inside the brushes, so you do not have to constantly beat it off. In snowfalls and very coldy The wipers don't get too cold. They cope with adhering snow effortlessly, which reduces the consumption of anti-freeze. Most of the reviews mention low price brushes.

Disadvantages: modest appearance, at a speed of more than 100 km / h they do not cope well with the task, which threatens with an accident. So if you are a fan of driving in the snow on the track, then this model is not for you. At positive temperatures, they can leave small stains on the glass.

3. TRICO Ice

  • The price is from 590 rubles.
  • Length - from 40 to 70 cm

The third position in the list is occupied by Mexican-made brushes. They clean well and silently, require a minimum of non-freezing. A well-thought-out move by the manufacturer: TRICO Ice comes with adapters that allow you to install them on various mounts. And in frost and in sleet, they do an excellent job of cleaning glass.

Cons: There are user complaints that the right brush leaves an uncleaned area. This is due to its loose pressure on the glass. IN heavy snowfall adhering snow melts and ice forms, due to which the brushes begin to clean the glass with a pass.

2. Champion Winter

  • The price is from 430 rubles.
  • Length - from 41 to 60 cm

The second number of the ranking is winter wipers made in the European Union. Thanks to the sealed waterproof cover put on the frame, snow does not stick to them. The very soft rubber adheres perfectly to the glass and cleans it.

Cons: with the advent of the second season of operation, the cover may begin to let moisture through, sometimes in cold weather you have to “knead” the brushes. At a speed of 120 km per hour, they clean poorly, which does not contribute to safe driving. And do not leave Champion Winter for the summer, because they stop cleaning well and leave an ugly "fan" on the glass.

1. Bosch Aerotwin

  • The price is from 670 rubles.
  • Length - from 34 to 80 cm

And in the first place among the best winter wiper blades was a Serbian-made model. How does it outperform its competitors? First, a wide range of sizes. Secondly, it completely repeats the curves of glass and does not stiffen in frost (up to minus 10 degrees). Thirdly, it serves for a very long time, from 2 seasons or more.

Not without drawbacks: high price, squeaks, some car owners complain about thin stripes on the glass after the work of Bosch Aerotwin.

A good windshield wiper should smoothly remove water, snow and slush from the glass, without squeaking, rattling or rattling. If you notice these issues, or if your windshield wiper regularly leaves streaks or leaks streaks of water, it's time to replace it with a new one.

Our ranking of windshield wipers for winter is designed to ensure you don't end up in a sticky situation. For example, they didn’t get stuck on the side of the road in a blizzard because the wipers failed to remove the ice that formed on the windshield.

Advice: If you notice that the windshield wipers are not working well, try cleaning the rubber blade first. Sometimes that's all it takes to get a few more weeks or months of wiper service. Moisten a clean paper towel or cloth with a little water, washer fluid, or alcohol and wipe along the edge of the wiper. The edge should be sharp and smooth, without nicks, chips or gaps, and the rubber should be pliable, without cracks.

In winter, carefully scrape off the ice from the windshield before using the wipers, as the ice can peel off the rubber or damage the edge of the wipers.

Safety is first and foremost visibility. In the rain, you must admit, it is much more pleasant to drive along the highway in a car, the wipers of which easily brush off dirt and water from the glass, leaving no streaks. Which brushes are better for cleaning the windshield at high speed: conventional frame, so-called winter (in a rubber case), frameless or fashionable hybrid? For the answer at the end resource tests we brought Solaris and Camry under the tedious autumn rain on expressway landfill and successively installed all four types of wipers.

The main advantage of a conventional wiper blade is low price. In a Moscow network hypermarket, such a wiper costs about two times cheaper than similarly priced winter, frameless and hybrid brushes of identical dimensions from the same eminent manufacturer: 250-300 instead of 500-700 rubles for a 60-centimeter driver's brush for Solaris.

In the case of a hybrid, you overpay for design and aerodynamics. The rubber band (what directly cleans the glass) is exactly the same as that of the frame wiper. Structurally hybrid brush differs from the usual one only in a lower frame and developed aerodynamic body kit, hiding fittings and hinges, which reduces the turbulence of the air flow and reduces the lifting force that tears the wiper off the windshield. The advantage theoretically should appear just at high speeds! By the way, in winter, the body of the hybrid brush, which covers the hinges of the frame, including from snow, reduces the likelihood of their immobilization due to freezing.

Due to the low frame of the hybrid brush, the number of pressure points is less: there are six of them on the 65-cm Camry wiper instead of eight on the conventional frame. Therefore, hybrids are less versatile: they work worse on glasses with a large curvature

But this problem has been radically solved only with a frameless janitor: there is nothing to immobilize there! Frameless brush will leave wide uncleaned stripes only as a result of the formation of ice on the rubber tape in contact with the glass. And of course, the frameless case is even better with streamlining: it is lower and more aerodynamic than other types of brushes (with the exception of a massive attachment point on a leash).

The difference in the height of the brushes is visible to the naked eye: the frame ones will obscure the view the most. But they clean the right one better than others bottom corner on heavily curved glass. And worst of all, frameless wipers cope with this task. Because the elastic metal plates in them are strongly curved in the middle, and closer to the ends they are almost straight

But for winter wipers, a rubber boot that protects the hinges from freezing has a huge windage. The lifting force is such that cleaning defects appear at 90-100 km / h, and at 140 km / h the janitor literally hovers above the glass, barely touching it - this is in the wind tunnel of AvtoVAZ using the example of the Togliatti "tens" in 2007.

Winter brushes have a special rubber band. First, it is significantly higher to reduce the likelihood of frosting on the cleaning edge. And secondly, the rubber itself is used softer and more elastic at low temperatures.

But that was on the VAZ-2110 with its convex glass. Maybe on Solaris (not to mention Camry, where the glass is even flatter) everything will be different?

To minimize the impact of rubber band quality, three of our four brush types came from the same manufacturer, Federal-Mogul's Champion brand. At the end of September, only Champion winter wipers were not found: they were not delivered to the retail network in time. Therefore, we bought no less high-quality Alca case brushes, also popular in Russia.

The famous Champion makes all four types of brushes. The Easyvision series is inexpensive framed, Aerovantage - both frameless and hybrid wipers, and Winter - winter in a case. The latter have not yet been delivered to stores, so we replaced them with similar brushes from Alca

At urban speeds (up to 80 km/h), three of the four types of brand new brushes did their job perfectly: perfectly clean glass. Only frameless ones left one or two thin capillary strips. Moreover, four wipers out of four, which can be explained more by differences in the quality of rubber band batches than by the design of the brushes. Although, in theory, the rubber bands for all Champions - both framed, and hybrid, and frameless - should be the same. However, one or two thin water threads worsen the view slightly.
