In the coming years, a unified combat platform will appear in Russia. In preparation for the adoption of the latest Boomerangs, the industry developed a family of specialized vehicles on their basis - anti-tank, communications, electronic warfare, command and staff, sanitary and repair and evacuation. To solve each of the tasks, a special combat module has already been created, which can be easily replaced with another one. Now several dozens are used simultaneously in units and subunits various machines with different undercarriage and engines. This creates problems with their supply and maintenance. Therefore, the leading armies of the world are now betting on the unification of the chassis.

There will be all the vehicles that will accompany the Boomerang armored personnel carrier in battle, - said Alexander Krasovitsky. - Modules for them have already been created. These modules from one "Boomerang" can be rearranged to another or even to "Kurganets" without significant alterations and costs.

According to the CEO, work on the Boomerang platform is progressing well, despite the use a large number new technologies and components. He added that the platform performs well in tests, and manufacturers are ready to produce any number of vehicles ordered by the military.

Wheeled armored personnel carriers "Boomerang" are combat vehicles of a new generation, which use the most modern technologies, including ceramic armor and uninhabited combat modules. "Boomerangs" were first shown to the public in 2015 at the Victory Parade. Their adoption into service and the beginning series production planned for 2019.

However, armored personnel carriers do not fight alone. We need vehicles for the transportation of command, the removal of the wounded, the evacuation of damaged equipment from the battlefield, the fight against enemy aircraft and tanks. Therefore, interchangeable combat modules have been developed for placement on the Boomerang wheeled chassis. This will allow changing the functionality of combat vehicles depending on the situation and, for the first time in the history of the Russian armed forces, creating brigades and divisions that will be completely unified. This was achieved only by the Americans, who in the 2000s had brigades based on the Stryker armored personnel carrier.

According to military expert Alexei Khlopotov, the unification of the platform will significantly reduce the cost of production.

It is much easier to produce one chassis and put different modules on it than to make hulls and machines for different tasks, - the specialist noted. - In addition, repairs are greatly simplified. A module or chassis damaged in combat can be replaced at no extra cost.

Conversion opens up great opportunities - replacing one module with another, depending on the tasks being solved.

For example, in some conflicts, vehicles with air defense functionality are not needed, but repair and evacuation or sanitary vehicles, on the contrary, are required in larger numbers, - Alexey Khlopotov explained. - Modular scheme allows you to quickly adapt.

As American experience has shown, units armed with heavy wheeled armored personnel carriers and combat vehicles with different functionality are well suited for expeditionary operations. They have high mobility and are able to independently solve a wide range of tasks, - said Alexei Khlopotov.

BTR "Boomerang" has a wheel arrangement of 8x8 and can swim. It differs from the previous generation of armored personnel carriers by its large inner space and a convenient stern ramp for landing and landing. As for the deadlines for completing the tests of the armored personnel carrier, Krasovitsky noted that the company is entering the homestretch.

- That is, we can say that, like the BTR-90, the Boomerang is not needed today?

- "Boomerang" and BTR-82A are just cars of different classes. They are created for different tasks.

They occupy different niches. It's like with cars. Eat cheap cars economy class, but there is another level - cars executive class, which should talk about the owner. BTR-82A is a reliable machine, but it will not be able to perform a set of tasks that the Boomerang will perform, because it has a different functionality, others performance characteristics.

- In that case, where is the niche for the "Boomerang"?

Niches are the same. BTR-82A can solve certain local problems. With Boomerang, the range of tasks increases, the niche grows. Therefore, we have the same customers: the Ministry of Defense, the National Guard, the Ministry of Internal Affairs. We show the concept. This new base, new ground clearance, new height, new armor, new weapons.

On the "Boomerang", unlike the BTR-82A, you can put significantly large quantity automatic combat modules. And they can be changed. If you want a 30mm cannon, please. Do you want 57 or 100 mm, ATGM - please. It's like a constructor. There is a brand new base model, more secure. You can add anything to it. The front engine position and the rear ramp are ergonomic: it is convenient to sit down, it is convenient to dismount. But everything has pros and cons.

At one time, the BTR-90 was called a breakthrough vehicle, but at some point the Ministry of Defense considered it to be expensive. Aren't you afraid that the same will happen with Boomerang?

We are not afraid of anything. Today we understand the needs of our military, we know what will be in the arms program for 2018-2025. We will do what the client needs. We have Feedback with the customer. Were in Baltiysk at the Marine Corps competition - "Baltic Derby". They asked what they didn't like. Need more speed? Fine. If our client wants an over-the-horizon landing for 60 km, it will be done. We are told that we need to increase the number of crew, we need a comfortable organoleptic seating arrangement for the staff - there are no questions. We did it too. Boomerang today takes into account all the wishes of the customer.

We are not afraid that interest in the BTR-82A will fall. This is a reliable, cheap and well-known combat vehicle. It doesn't need to be advertised. Even today there are many orders for it from the former Soviet republics. We are helped by the difference in exchange rates. Foreign products of similar quality are 60-70% more expensive than ours.

Today the BTR-82A both floats and shoots. We've been improving a lot lately. There are quite a few competitors. But I can responsibly say that the same Chinese were not even close, the Ukrainians are trying to dump, but they have problems with quality. There are no direct competitors, but you can’t stand still: all the time someone is breathing down your back.

Therefore, the BTR-82A is still the main and most in demand combat vehicle. Boomerang is a technological breakthrough, a completely new machine. Perhaps there will not be as many of them as the BTR-82A. But the question is not in quantity, but in combat capabilities.

So I want to say that for both the BTR-82A and the Boomerang, the range of applications is very wide. It has enough space for all cars. One does not replace the other, but complements. The company has no fear that Boomerang will not be in demand.

Today we are already receiving orders from foreigners, but the car is secret. We do not have the right not only to negotiate in relation to the price, but we cannot even show the performance characteristics (performance characteristics. - Izvestia). I am sure that when the secrecy stamp is removed, we, together with Rosoboronexport, will also sell this car.

- Whom, besides the Finnish Patria and the American Stryker, do you consider your competitors?

We do not see them as competitors. Technical solutions, embedded in the "Boomerang", more interesting, more modern and cheaper.

I can’t name the exact dates, but we are entering the finish line. It's flattering that our car completed the Victory Parade, but this is a new car, and we continue to work on armor, weight, ergonomics, weapons.
