The tram is always right except for 3 cases. How to turn left and turn around if there are tram tracks in the same direction

04.04.2019

In the presented publication from the cycle "Rules for the passage of intersections" it is proposed to familiarize yourself with the traffic rules related to the intersection of intersections where tram tracks are located. In previous articles of the cycle, it was said that tram tracks can be placed at intersections of a completely arbitrary type: controlled by a traffic light or a traffic controller, uncontrolled equivalent, uncontrolled with the main road. This article will talk about the rules for passing any of the listed intersections with tram tracks. At the same time, it is worth noting that when analyzing intersections in this publication, it is considered that a tram can perform any action on them - turns to the left and right, move in a straight line. He makes them when moving from an arbitrary direction, in other words, tram tracks make it possible to do this. If in fact there is an intersection where the rail tracks do not combine all directions, then the requirements for passing through it will only become easier.

How to take the correct position on the road before the intersection?

The second half of this series of publications talked about how to take the right position on the highway when approaching an arbitrary intersection. For intersections with tracks for the movement of the tram, the main rules for such an action remain. But there are some minor differences. If in the middle highway, along which the car approaches the intersection, there are tram tracks, moreover, at the same height with carriageway, then in certain cases the driver has the right to drive on the way, and in some cases he has to drive on them. In such a situation, it is necessary to analyze paragraphs 8.5 and 9.6 of the SDA.

Paragraph 8.5 states that before turning to the right or left side or turn around, the driver must advance to the appropriate extreme position on the road, calculated for movement in a given direction. Situations are excluded when a turn is performed at the entrance to an intersection where a circular movement is specified. Presence on the left side tram tracks adjacent direction, located at the same height with the road, allows you to turn to the left side and turn around from them, if signs 5.15.1 and 5.15.2 or marking 1.18 do not require a different mode of movement. At the same time, trams should not be obstructed.

Paragraph 9.6 allows movement on tram tracks of the adjacent direction, located on the left side at the same level with the carriageway, when all lanes are loaded given direction, as well as when trying to go around an obstacle or turn around, overtake, turn to the left, taking into account clause 8.5 of the SDA. At the same time, trams should not be obstructed. It is not allowed to leave the tram tracks in the opposite direction. When there are signs 5.15.1 or 5.15.2 in front of the intersection, it is forbidden to travel on tram tracks through the intersection.

Turn to the left side or U-turn in the presence of tram tracks.

When in the middle of the highway, at the same level with it, there are tram tracks, then you must definitely make a turn to the left and turn right from the tram tracks of the accompanying direction. In the only case, this is prohibited. This is the presence of signs 5.15.1 or 5.15.2. If at least one of these signs is present on at least one lane when approaching the intersection, then it is forbidden to enter the tram tracks of the adjacent direction. Otherwise, you will have to make a left turn or turn around from the tram tracks. If, under the conditions presented, you make a left turn not from the tram tracks, but from the left lane, then this is considered non-compliance with traffic rules.

Movement directly in the presence of tram tracks.

If there are tram tracks on the left side at the same level as the motorway, it is allowed to use them to move in a straight line. This can only be done when all other lanes are occupied. Also, signs 5.15.1 and 5.15.2 should not be present before the intersection. That is, the following conclusion can be drawn. If the driver is in a hurry and needs to pass the intersection as soon as possible, in front of which a traffic jam has formed, then he can safely use the tram tracks of the adjacent direction to his advantage. It does not count traffic violation, subject to the above conditions. This technique is not popular, but nevertheless it is worth using it.

Turn to the right in the presence of tram tracks.

The turn to the right cannot be reproduced from the tram tracks of the adjacent direction. To implement it, you need to move to the extreme right position on the highway.

How to determine the type of intersection?

To determine whether a certain intersection is one at which the requirements for passing through an intersection with tram tracks are functioning, one simple step should be performed. It is necessary to see if the this moment to the crossroads, at least one side of the tram. If there is a tram at the intersection, then you need to use the advice of the presented article to cross the intersection. When he is not there, the intersection is crossed in the usual way.

Tram tracks at an intersection controlled by a traffic controller.

The requirements for crossing this type of intersection without tram lines are set out in the publication “Rules for passing intersections. Part 4. Regulated intersection. Regulator Signals. In particular, this article talked about how and in what mode cars can disperse. For this reason, it is not worth repeating. But it should be noted that when tram tracks appeared at the intersection, they cannot in any way affect the advantage road transport at this intersection. This means that in the absence of trams, cars cross the intersection in exactly the same way as in the complete absence of paths for it.

When trams are heading to an intersection from one or more sides, certain situations you should give way to them. Bilateral relations between car owners and tram drivers at controlled intersections are regulated by clause 13.6 of the SDA. The presented paragraph states that the tram receives privileges, regardless of the trajectory of its movement, when the traffic light command or the traffic controller allows the movement of the tram and vehicles that do not need rails at the same time. But when moving in the direction of the arrow burning in the auxiliary cell at the same time as the yellow or red traffic light, the tram is obliged to give way to vehicles that are approaching from other routes.

What situations may arise in which it is possible to cross the route of the tram and the car with the signs of the traffic controller that meet the requirements? The following will analyze the circumstances in which it is necessary to release carriageway for the tram.

1. The car and the tram arrived at the intersection on the same side. The tram tracks are right side from the highway, the tram is moving straight, and the driver of the car wants to make a right turn. The traffic controller stands sideways to the car and his arms are outstretched in different directions.
2. The car and the tram arrived at the intersection from one side. The tram tracks are on the left side of the carriageway, the tram is moving to the left, and the car driver wants to make a left turn. The traffic controller is located on the left side of the car and stretches his right hand forward.
3. The car and the tram arrived at the intersection from one side. The tram tracks are in the middle of the road, the tram is moving to the left, and the car driver wants to turn left or turn around. The traffic controller stands to the car with his left side and stretches his right hand forward.
4. The car and the tram arrived at the intersection from one side. The tram tracks are on the right side of the road, the tram is moving to the left, the car driver wants to continue moving in an arbitrary direction. The traffic controller stands to the car with his left side and stretches his right hand forward.

There are a number of situations in which it is necessary to give way to a tram at an intersection controlled by a traffic controller. But it is impossible to talk about all of them because of the different location of the tram tracks relative to the roadway, different directions before and after crossing the intersection by a car or tram, various gestures of the traffic controller.

A universal result for crossing intersections with tram tracks controlled by a traffic controller: if at a given intersection the car's route intersects with the direction of movement of the tram, then you need to clear the way for the tram, because it has priority. Even if the tram enters the intersection without following the rules traffic, it is better to give way to him.

Good afternoon, dear reader.

In the tenth article of the series "Rules for the passage of intersections" we will again focus on the passage of intersections where tram tracks are located and tram traffic is organized.

The speech dealt with the choice of the correct position before the intersection, and also considered the intersections regulated by the traffic controller. This article will focus on other types of intersections:

Let me remind you that at intersections with tram tracks, as well as at any other, you need to take correct position on the roadway. Moreover, in some cases, this provision may be located directly on the tram tracks.

Tram tracks at a traffic light controlled intersection

IN this case The passage of the intersection is regulated by the rules of the road:

13.6. If the signals of a traffic light or a traffic controller allow the movement of a tram and trackless vehicles at the same time, then tram takes precedence regardless of the direction of its movement. However, when moving in the direction of the arrow included in additional section along with red yellow signal traffic light, the tram must give way to vehicles moving from other directions.

In most cases, at intersections regulated by traffic signals, have the advantage rail vehicles, i.e. trams.

The only exception to this rule is the situation when the tram turns under the green arrow turned on in the additional section at the same time as the red or yellow signal. In this case, car drivers have an advantage. This is exactly the situation depicted in the picture above, where the tram gives way to blue and white cars.

Please note that if the car and the tram are moving from different directions (as in the figure above), then the driver of the car cannot determine whether the tram is driving on a green signal in an additional section or on a regular green signal.

If we look at the situation from the other side and evaluate the consequences of an accident for a tram driver and a car driver, it becomes obvious that the car driver always loses, because. the car, due to its low weight, receives significant damage. An example of such an accident is shown in the video:

The only conclusion that can be drawn from all of the above is that at intersections regulated by traffic lights, one should always give way to the tram who started the movement.

Uneven intersection with tram tracks

The passage of unregulated unequal intersections with tram tracks is described by several points at once. First, let's look at all of these points:

13.9. At the intersection of unequal roads, the driver of a vehicle moving along secondary road, must give way to vehicles approaching along the main road, regardless of the direction of their further movement.

At such intersections, the tram has an advantage over trackless ones. vehicles moving in the same or opposite direction on an equivalent road, regardless of the direction of its movement.

13.10. In the event that the main road changes direction at an intersection, drivers moving along main road, should be guided by the rules for passing the intersections of equivalent roads. The same rules should be followed by drivers moving on secondary roads.

13.11.

13.11 1 .

Based on these points, the following conclusions can be drawn:

1. If the tram approaches the intersection on a secondary road, and your car on the main one, then the tram must give way to the car. The situation is shown in the figure below, where the tram gives way orange car located on the main page.

I note that a tram driver, who has turned his head to the huge weight of his vehicle, may not want to give way to your "tiny little car." So, in this case, you should not climb under the tram, even if you are completely sure that during the subsequent analysis, the truth will be on your side.

2. In all situations, except for the one described above, a tram at an unequal intersection has an advantage over cars, so it should give way.

Equivalent intersection with tram tracks

When passing unregulated equivalent intersections with tram tracks, paragraphs 13.11 and 13.11 1 of the traffic rules apply:

13.11. At the intersection of equivalent roads, with the exception of the case provided for in clause 13.11 1 of the Rules, the driver of a trackless vehicle is obliged to give way to vehicles approaching from the right. Tram drivers should be guided by the same rule among themselves.

At such intersections, the tram has an advantage over trackless vehicles, regardless of the direction of its movement.

13.11 1 . When entering an intersection with circular traffic and which is marked with sign 4.3, the driver of the vehicle is obliged to give way to vehicles moving along such an intersection.

In this case, drivers should give way to all trams with which their trajectories intersect.

Please note that paragraph 13.11 1 of the SDA, relating to equivalent intersections with roundabout. At such intersections, the tram must, at the entrance to the intersection, give way to cars moving in a circle.

Well, in the series, the choice is considered right place to stop at an intersection.

Good luck on the roads!

Hello Maxim

I was interested in the comment "Submitted by: Hajj Date: December 10, 2010 20:30" and your answer "Submitted by: Maxim Date: December 17, 2010 01:10"

I have to say the following. Traffic rules allow traffic on tram tracks passing direction only if they are on the left. Accordingly, following your advice can violate traffic rules. In addition, I sincerely do not understand the problem of the author of the message. And I think it's contrived. For while the tram tracks are on the right, we freely turn both to the left and to the right from the carriageway. Let me remind you that tram tracks (TP) are not part of the carriageway (FC). I note that not a word is said about turning right from the TP in the traffic rules. Also in the traffic rules it is indicated for the movement of trackless vehicles (TS) the inverter is intended. And TP according to traffic rules are not part of the IF. Therefore, in general case the movement of trackless vehicles along the TP is prohibited. When the TPs are on the left, then according to the traffic rules, to turn left, you need to go to the TP in the same direction (of course, without interfering with the tram).

In the city of Ufa there is a similar Mingazheva street. It's only two-sided. But at the beginning and at the end of the street, TP is separated by 2PCH. And between these segments, the TPs are located first on the left side of the IF (~ 300m), then on the right side of the IF (1.26 km).

Do I understand correctly that in this case it is forbidden to enter the tram tracks for turning left and turning around? If so, what should be done if you need to make a U-turn, and some comrades are standing on the tram tracks? Also violate?

Many drivers are sure that the tram always has an advantage in traffic and skip it in any situation. However, this is not entirely true and can lead to an accident, because the rules clearly indicate the moments at which it is he who is obliged to let other road users pass. So, in what cases should you give way to the tram, and when should you not?

Situations in which a tram gives way

Indeed, almost always the tram comes first, and there are only three exceptions:

  • if the car travels on the main road, and the tram - on the secondary. This situation is 100% subject to the rule that when crossing unequal roads, the driver of a vehicle (any, without distinction between types (passenger, etc.)) moving along a secondary lane is obliged to give way to someone who is moving along the main lane independently on what is its further direction of movement;
  • if the way is open for the car with a green traffic light, and for the tram only the green arrow is lit at the same time as the red or yellow signal;
  • if the car is moving along the road, and the tram car is just leaving the depot.

In principle, having figured out in which cases a tram gives way to a car, there should be no problems in traffic.

What the driver should remember and the most problematic issues

With equivalent roads, oncoming and passing traffic, the tram has an advantage over any trackless transport, and not a single driver should forget this rule. Along with this, you need to remember the three exceptions described above, in which electric vehicles concede the right of way to cars first.

At first glance, the situations when you need to give way to a tram are understandable and simple, but in practice, drivers, thanks to tram tracks, face several more difficulties:

  • traffic in the tram stop area (who lets whom pass);
  • movement on rails (is it permissible);
  • intersections with tram tracks and participation of additional signs.

Features of maneuverability on roads containing tram tracks

Particularly difficult for many are the issues of maneuverability in those sections where there are tram tracks. According to the Rules, if the rails are laid on the left in the direction of the car at the same level as the general roadway, then in order to overtake or bypass the car in front in the absence of a tram on the tracks, the driver can drive into those sections that relate to passing traffic. Departure in the opposite direction is strictly prohibited!

Questions of intersections, turns and U-turns remain problematic. The rules prescribe that in order to prepare for a turn / U-turn, the car switches to tram tracks of the same direction and makes a maneuver already from them (if there is no sign “Direction along the lane”). At the same time, it is important to remember that the same Rules establish that the driver is prohibited from obstructing the tram, which remains dominant on equivalent roads. In this case, you need to independently assess the situation and pay attention to the distance separating the vehicles:

  • if the tram car is far away and the car has time to turn, then you should do so;
  • if the tram car is close, then the car should slow down and give way to the tram, and after it move onto the rails.

What you need to know when approaching a tram stop

by the most dangerous areas the road, in the middle of which tram tracks are laid, become stops, so the driver of road transport should assess the situation in advance and decide: should he stop and give way to passing passengers or not?

  1. If there is no special “island” for waiting for public transport in the stopping area, then passengers remain on the sidewalk until the arrival of the tram, and as soon as it arrives and stops, they have the right to cross the carriageway, and car drivers are obliged to stop and let them through. At the same time, you need to focus mainly on people, and not look at whether the tram driver opened the doors. Modern rules say that you need to give way to a pedestrian.
  2. If there is a special “island” for waiting in the stopping area, then passengers are waiting public transport on it, and no obstacles to movement should be created.

Carefully! In case of crossing the carriageway by passengers, do not lose vigilance. Unfortunately, not all of them know and follow the Rules of the Road, and the driver is always liable by law, because. he operates a high-risk facility.

Violation of the Rules, and when legal assistance is needed

The above are the most frequent and common situations that will help you behave correctly on the road, understand when and to whom you should give way in order to avoid violations of the Rules of the Road. But the cases are different, especially when one of the participants does not understand all the nuances or when the participants use signs and points of the Rules that contradict each other.

All situations require separate consideration, so it makes sense to seek help from a specialist in the field of auto law. Moreover, you cannot do without legal assistance if the violation of the Rules led to an accident and litigation.

Now imagine that you are going to ride a tram. The sign that denotes tram station, you already know. On the way to the bus stop, you must observe the Traffic Laws .

But the tram stop itself is different from the bus stop. You remember, of course, that bus stop landing and disembarkation occurs from the sidewalk and onto the sidewalk.

The tram stop looks different. The fact is that tram rails usually pass in the middle of the road. This means that it is impossible to get on the tram from the sidewalk.

There are two types of tram stops. One of them has a landing platform, which is raised above the roadway and separated from it by a fence.

Other types of tram stops do not have raised platforms and are located on the sidewalk.

First, let's get acquainted with those cases when there is an elevated landing platform at the tram stop. How do you get to her?

Of course, you remember that you need to walk across the road, observing the Rules of the Road. If the pedestrian crossing is controlled by a traffic light, you must wait for the green signal to pass. Only then can you go to the tram stop. It also happens that you are standing on the sidewalk, and a tram is coming to a stop. You want to quickly run to him, but do not rush! If the traffic light is red, you should never go! After all, for cars driving on the road at this time, the green light is on and you can be in their way.

If the pedestrian crossing is not regulated, you can go through it only if you are sure that the cars are far away and you are safe.

So, you crossed the street and ended up at the tram stop. And although it is specially raised above the roadway for the safety and convenience of passengers, it is still a dangerous place. On the one hand, there is a roadway, along which cars drive. On the other hand, the rails along which the tram moves. The site itself is not wide, and if you behave carelessly, you can end up in dangerous situation. You need to be especially careful if the site is not fenced. In no case should you run, push and play on it.

When waiting for a tram on an elevated landing, do not stand close to the rails or to the carriageway of the street.

If the tram you need has approached the stop, wait until it opens the doors, but stand on the side so as not to interfere with passengers getting out of it.

Rules of conduct for tram passengers

When you were in the tram, you became a passenger. You must behave in accordance with certain rules.

Do not interfere with the opening and closing of doors. They are driven by a tram driver. In no case should you try to open the tram doors yourself. This is very dangerous for you and other passengers and can damage the doors themselves. Do not lean against the doors - for some reason they can open on the go, and you can fall out.

Very dangerous place in the tram is the articulation of the wagons in the center of the cabin. Here are located special devices allowing the tram to turn.

Don't lean on them! And never stick your hands or feet into the spaces behind the fences! When turning, they can pinch! You run the risk of serious injury or even death!

Other rules of conduct in the tram are familiar to you from the rules of conduct in a bus or trolleybus.

When you get off the tram, you become a pedestrian again. First of all, try to move away from the doors so as not to interfere with other passengers getting out. But do not rush to run across the road to the sidewalk.

First determine where you are. If you get off the tram onto an elevated platform next to which there is an adjustable pedestrian crossing, then you can only go to the sidewalk when the traffic light is green! Be careful - there is a carriageway in front of you, and tram tracks behind you. That is, you are between the cars and the tram. If you need to cross to the opposite side, also wait for the green traffic light.

If the tram stop is located next to an unregulated pedestrian crossing, then go to the sidewalk only when you are sure that there are no cars driving to your right.

If you need to cross to the opposite side of the street, be sure to miss the tram you came on. If, nevertheless, you began to cross the road, be sure to remember:

A standing tram should only be bypassed from the front!

In this case, you will be able to see if a tram or other vehicles are approaching the crossing from the right. After all, if you go around the tram from behind, you will not see them and you can suddenly go out onto the road in front of cars or an oncoming tram.

In cases where a tram stop does not have an elevated landing area, one must behave differently. In this case, you can only wait for the tram on the sidewalk! You can not stand on the curb, and even more so on the carriageway! You can board the tram only when the tram has completely stopped.

But before you go out on the road, make sure that cars let you pass. At the same time, you should know that drivers are obliged to let pedestrians through only when they go to the tram from the side of the doors.

And one more rule: as long as the tram does not stop, the cars have the right to go! Drivers are not required to give way to pedestrians. So it's better not to rush to the tram if the cars continue to move. It is better to be late for the tram than to be under the wheels of a car!

You must also be careful when leaving the tram at a stop that does not have an elevated landing area. After all, as soon as the tram starts moving again, cars can also go. Therefore, you can not linger on the carriageway! But before you go to the sidewalk, look around carefully and make sure that the cars are ready to let you through.

You also need to know that there are more dangers on the road with tram tracks than on ordinary road with two-way traffic. Why? You know that when you cross the road, it is dangerous to stop in the middle - because you find yourself between cars that go both in front and behind. And when you cross a street with tram tracks, you can find yourself between cars moving in different directions. It's not safe, because tram cars wider than a tram track.

In what cases it is necessary to give way to trams, and in which not.

Tramway always has an advantage over trackless transport except for three cases:

  • when the tram moves to the arrow switched on in the additional section at the same time as the red or yellow traffic light. The tram in this case must give way to vehicles moving from other directions.
  • when the tram approaches the intersection on a secondary road;
  • when the tram leaves the depot and the tram tracks cross the carriageway (clauses 18.1 and 13.6. SDA)

The first case refers to the passage of regulated intersections, the second case - to the passage of unregulated intersections. It should be noted that at an equivalent intersection, the “interference on the right” rule is valid only when passing with trackless vehicles. A tram can be at an equivalent intersection from either side, and in any case, you must give way to it.

When the traffic light signal at the intersection allows the movement of a tram and a trackless vehicle at the same time, and the trajectories of their movement intersect, then the tram has an advantage, regardless of the direction of its movement (clause 13.6 of the SDA). For example, if the direction is passing with you, the tram moves straight, and you need to turn left at the intersection, through the tram tracks - the tram has an advantage. Or the tram turns right at the crossroads, and you need to go straight across the tram tracks - in this situation, the tram also has an advantage. Tram on controlled intersection always goes first, except when he moves to the arrow in the additional section of the traffic light, which is turned on simultaneously with the red or yellow signal.

In Orsk, on all the main streets there are tram traffic. There are two exits from the depot: in the area of the stop. "St. Krasnaya" and the intersection of Chernysheva / Korolenko streets. Examples of passing through some intersections with tram traffic in Orsk.

Crossroads at the intersection of Lenin Ave. / st. Oil workers. At this intersection, when the tram moves from the stop. "Mag. "Luch" and turn left onto Neftchilar Street - cars driving straight along Lenina Avenue towards the stop give way to the tram. "Mag. "Ray". Also when the tram moves from the side of the stop. "DK Neftekhimikov" and turn right onto the street. Neftyanikov - cars driving straight along Lenin Ave. in the direction of the stop give way to the tram. "Mag. "Ray". The rule "interference on the right" does not apply to the tram. There is an arrow at this intersection. When the tram moves to the right along the arrow, it must yield to cars moving on the left along the street. Oil workers. But the st. Oil workers from the street. Novosibirsk is one-way, traffic is prohibited from there.

Crossroads at the intersection of Lenin Ave. / st. Kramatorsk. At this intersection, when the tram moves from the stop. "Pl. Komsomolskaya" and turn left onto Kramatorska Street - the tram gives way to cars driving straight along the street. Kramatorsk towards the street. Novosibirsk. Because there is a “Give way” sign before the turn. And when the tram turns right from the street. Kramatorsk on Lenin Avenue - cars driving straight along the street give way to the tram. Kramatorsk towards the street. Novosibirsk.

Crossroads on Gagarin Square. At this intersection, when the tram is moving from the side of the overpass and turning right into the Old Town, cars driving both towards the overpass and from the side of the overpass give way to the tram. The same is true when the tram moves from the Old Town to the right onto Builders Street and to the left onto the overpass. The rule "interference on the right" does not apply to the tram.

Crossroads at the intersection of St. Orskoye Highway / st. Elshanskaya. At this triple intersection, traffic is regulated by traffic lights, everything is clear. When a tram moves from the side of the CHPP to the traffic light, it must yield to cars moving to the left under the bridge to Soyuznaya Street. The tram has a “Give way” sign.
