During a trip to Moscow, I first drew attention to a new segment of the taxi market - taxis for wealthy clients.
After work, my old classmates and I went to a craft pub - it's fashionable in the capital - and then went for a walk along Novy Arbat. My attention was drawn to a triangle at the dividing road, where a lot of executive cars in black were parked. What is surprising - despite the late hour, drivers were sitting inside.
“It’s a taxi,” a former classmate who now works at PriceWaterHouseCoopers told me. "Yes, expensive taxi for dear customers. You see, there are people in Moscow whose self-respect does not allow them to sit in budget foreign car like a Ford Focus with some kind of Ashot, ”added the second, who works at GazpromBank. That's how I met Uber black.
To be honest, it’s hard to call it even a taxi, because the cars ride there are of a very, very high class. Well, of course, there are no checkers on them at all.
The main players in the expensive segment are Uber black, Wheely and Gett Vip & Business. In fact, if we talk about Uber, then it has only two classes of cars: Uber X and Uber Black. In the first category, “simple” foreign cars work, such as Ford Focus, Mazda, Toyota, Kia, etc., a kilometer costs only 8 rubles (the base rate, there are a lot of “buts” in the form of coefficients and fees for car delivery). I specifically make a reservation about tariffs, because the official tariffs announced by Uber have little to do with the real check for the trip precisely because of the complex coefficient system (the same balalaika is now in Yandex Taxi).
What cars work in Uber Black? These are Mercedes E / C-class, BMW 5 and 7 series, Audi A6 and A8. The average check for a trip is about 1000 rubles, all cars are strictly black and no permits (of course) are required for them. Uber offers recommendations for its drivers: white shirt + jacket (you can take it off in the heat), tie (which is strange, except for black), business and glossy magazines in the back pocket, free water for the passenger. From practice, the last two can lie unpacked for weeks on back seat, because the passenger most often silently sits in a mobile phone. Nevertheless, this is a taxi - why it is important to remember this nuance, I will tell you later.
What machines work at Gett Vip & Business? About the same, with a slight difference: in Gett Business - Mercedes E-class, BMW 5 series, Audi A6. Gett Vip - Mercedes S-class, BMW 7 series, Audi A8 (black body only). Gett positions its service more like "your personal driver". This leads to the fact that, on the one hand, orders at Gett are fatter, but passengers are also more demanding: in addition to magazines and water, you need to be ready to open doors for them, help with luggage, and perform other lackey functions. This strongly contradicts the spirit of a taxi, the basis of which is a mutually beneficial trip of a civilian driver and a client-passenger. If we compare the number of boards in both capitals (except for Moscow and St. Petersburg, the Uber service is not represented), then Uber has more orders and more boards on the line. On the one hand, a large number of boards for the client is an obvious plus. On the other hand, competition leads to increased downtime and a desperate struggle for rating (the passenger has the opportunity to evaluate the driver's service, drivers with a low rating have significantly fewer orders).
An interesting alternative to these two services is Wheely, which, in principle, is not a taxi in the usual sense of the word due to high fares. They honestly write this on their website, only the word “better” should be replaced with “more expensive”:

The tariff seems fabulous for the driver, but this is not the limit: the VIP + category was created for the owners of Rolls-Royces and Bentleys, who, due to life circumstances, have to go to the bakery in a simple car. Who wants to feel like an oligarch once in a lifetime: delivery 300r + 30r / min + 75r / km. The minimum trip to a nearby bakery will cost 2000 rubles. As in other services, the main market is Moscow and St. Petersburg. In the regions, the requirements for a car are significantly lower, and there is simply no VIP class - there is no demand!
The economics of working in a luxury taxi is interesting: oddly enough, renting an executive Mercedes of suitable years for a taxi is quite normal. The price tag ranges from 3500 to 4500 rubles per day. Plus, you will need to add fuel to the costs (a 6-liter Mercedes W222 engine consumes more than a 1.3-liter Skoda Rapid engine). And washing - you need to wash constantly, in autumn and spring it happens more than once a day. If a not-quite-clean car can be served in an ordinary taxi, then in a VIP taxi it immediately brings down the rating (although formally the service rules allow not-perfectly clean cars to be served in autumn and spring, provided that the driver wipes the handles, doors, thresholds in advance). 10 thousand a month for a sink can be laid safely.
The working day, as in a regular taxi, takes place mainly in the evening and at night. Locations where you can find an order are very different from economy lines - for Moscow this is a territory strictly inside Garden Ring. Expensive hotels, restaurants, spas, fitness clubs and other habitats for owners of fat wallets and their families. If in an ordinary taxi communication between the driver and passenger is allowed, in an elite taxi, silence is golden.
Average earnings are different for everyone. It depends on the service, on the car, on the rating. If you outline the framework "from and to" - from 200 to 300 thousand per month with a 10-14 hour shift (within this shift, a lot of time will be spent on downtime between orders).
Summing up, I will say that this is a good segment for experienced drivers. This is a good segment for those who rent a car themselves and continue to work in a taxi. If you are tired of transporting drunks and students, then we take a “gelding” on credit, start to pay it back quite quickly and do not shy away (during downtime) to take orders from cheaper segments (the “more, but not less” rule applies here: that is, a car a higher class "sees" and can take orders on cheaper lines, but not vice versa).
The only thing is that it is in the elite taxi segment that you begin to understand the slight difference between cars. For example, there are expensive cars designed for the driver - for example, BMW. And there are created for the passenger - for example, Mercedes. It seems that both are "Germans", both are elite, but it is more convenient for the driver in a BMW - more space, better seat and ergonomics. Considering that it is for you to travel 12-14 hours a day, draw your own conclusions.
