According to the data of the analytical agency "AUTOSTAT", as of July 1, 2016, the average provision of cars in Russia amounted to 285 cars per 1000 inhabitants.

The most prosperous regions are Kamchatka (472 units) and Primorsky (437 units) krais. One of the reasons for such high performance These subjects of the Russian Federation are served by the fact that used foreign cars from Japan are imported through the Far East. The Moscow Region (347 units) took the third place in terms of provision with passenger cars.

The top five is closed by the Kaliningrad (344 units) and Kaluga (342 units) regions. The TOP-10 regions in terms of availability also included: Karelia (341 units), Pskov region (336 units), Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug - Yugra (327 units), Ryazan (324 units) and Murmansk (321 units) areas.

It should be noted that Moscow is on the 22nd position in this rating (308 units), St. Petersburg is on the 11th position (316 units). The lowest provision of cars in Russia is in the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug: 88 cars per thousand inhabitants. Also, the experts of the agency "AUTOSTAT" note that in 36 regions (out of 83) the indicator of provision with cars is higher than the national average.

“The provision of cars in Russia is still significantly lower than in developed European countries and in the USA. At the same time, it is increasing from year to year. For example, two years ago (as of July 1, 2014), the provision of passenger cars in Russia on average was 280 units per thousand inhabitants. Thus, over the past two years, even in the absence of positive dynamics market, this figure continued to grow,” said Azat Timerkhanov, head of the press service of the analytical agency “AUTOSTAT”.

The crisis period led to significant changes in the Russian car fleet. By 2014 registration passenger cars purchased at the salon fell 44.2%. , these figures corresponded to the situation in 2005. However, already in 2015, a trend towards stabilization of registration data became noticeable, as evidenced by statistics: passenger vehicles at the end of the year increased by 6.3%, which in quantitative terms amounted to approximately 1,280,000 units of equipment. It should be noted that the cost of a new car increased by 56-57 thousand compared to 2014 and amounted to 1 million 56.7 thousand rubles.

How many cars were registered in 2016?

The motorization of the state, albeit at a slower pace due to sanctions and crisis phenomena, continued in early 2016. For every 1,000 Russians, there were 283 registered cars, 11 more than a year ago. Primorye and the Kamchatka Territory became the leaders in terms of provision of cars, which was due to the import of used Japanese foreign cars through the Far East. There was a decline in re-exports, when residents of neighboring countries bought cars in Russia (the exchange rate of the ruble made such purchases profitable for those who saved for a car in dollars), but they registered them in their countries. According to the State traffic inspectorate, at the end of February 2016, the increase in the number of registered cars was 1.5% compared to the same period in 2015. The indicators of the official traffic police resource indicate that over 10 years, the Russian car fleet has grown by about 65%. Statistics by types of registered vehicles are presented in Table 1.

Conclusion

The last decade, according to the traffic police, is marked by an increase in the private car fleet by 65%. The traditional increase in registration is one and a half percent, which is typical for the post-crisis years. The capital and the Moscow region are the leaders in terms of provision of vehicles, which leads to increased traffic jams and accidents on the roads. At the same time, against the backdrop of world capitals, Moscow looks very modest, since it is not among the ten cities with the most congested road system. The leaders in the number of registrations are passenger cars, trucks and motorcycles are significantly inferior to them, and buses are among the outsiders.

In some rich countries, there are almost as many cars as people. In some parts of the world, a car is an essential attribute of life, in many others, “iron horses” are used less frequently. People living in countryside, are forced to have a car for everyday needs, while in cities with a reliable public transport Residents don't even need to know how to drive.
Therefore, those who live in villages are more likely to own a car. The availability of a car depends not only on the type of locality, but also on the country of residence. Passenger cars, in addition to their direct purpose, can be used to maintain social or economic status.
People living in richer countries are more likely to be able to afford a car than those in poorer ones. Below is a list of countries with the largest number cars per capita. When compiling the rating, we did not take into account motorcycles, mopeds and motor scooters.

The overall figures for the countries included in this list are based on statistics that reveal the number of children affected by malnutrition, hunger or lack of food supplies. Here is a list of 10 malnourished nations in the world.

However, it is interesting what other subjects of the Russian Federation were included in the rating of regions with the largest number of registered cars? According to the data received at the end of 2014, the largest number of cars was registered in the Central federal district- 12,228,332 copies. This is followed by the Volga Federal District with 8,766,794 cars and then the Siberian Federal District with 5,550,937 cars.

TOP-10 regions of Russia by the number of cars registered with the state:

  1. Moscow region (including Moscow) - 6,428,339 vehicles
  2. Leningrad region (including St. Petersburg) - 3,810,256 vehicles
  3. Krasnodar Territory - 1,688,471 vehicles
  4. Sverdlovsk region - 1,441,256 vehicles
  5. Rostov region - 1,299,788 vehicles
  6. Republic of Bashkortostan - 1,250,776 vehicles
  7. Tyumen region - 1,176,441 vehicles
  8. Chelyabinsk region - 1,079,934 vehicles
  9. Republic of Tatarstan - 1,057,747 vehicles
  10. Nizhny Novgorod Region– 1,046,445 vehicles

It is also known: according to the data for 11 months of 2014, in addition to the capitals, the Republic of Tatarstan, the Krasnodar Territory, the Republic of Bashkortostan, the Samara Region, the Sverdlovsk Region, the Nizhny Novgorod Region, the Rostov Region, the Chelyabinsk Region, the Perm Territory and the Khanty-Mansiysk Region became leaders autonomous region(arranged in descending order by number of cars).

The rating that reveals is also curious. In terms of buying new cars with the highest weighted average price, Nakhodka leads the way, followed by Ussuriysk, Artyom, Vladivostok, Moscow, Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Khabarovsk, Khimki, Irkutsk and Sochi.

Recently it became known that: according to the traffic police, more than 45% of cars registered in the country are 10 years old (inclusive) and more. Only 5.4% of motorists can afford to drive cars whose age does not exceed one year, and another 13.4% of car owners drive passenger vehicles whose age is from 1 to 3 years.

The regions most provided with cars in terms of every thousand inhabitants, according to the rating of AA "AUTOSTAT", are Primorsky Krai (572 units) and Kamchatka Krai (458 units). Experts believe that one of the reasons for such high figures is that used foreign cars from Japan are imported through the Far East. It is possible that some of them, "leaving" deep into the country, continues to be registered in Primorye and Kamchatka. The actual provision in these regions may be at the level of other leaders in the rating - 300-350 cars per 1000 inhabitants.

The third place in terms of the number of cars per thousand inhabitants was taken by the Kaluga region (344 cars), the fourth - the Moscow region (340 cars). The Kaliningrad region closes the top five (336 units per 1,000 inhabitants). The top 10 regions in terms of car supply include the Pskov region (334 cars), Karelia (329 cars), Ryazan and Tyumen regions (312 cars each) and Moscow (311 cars/1000 inhabitants).

Rating of regions of the Russian Federation by provision of cars per thousand inhabitants

The leader in terms of motorization, according to Avtostat, was the Yaroslavl region with an increase of 11.3% (226 cars per thousand inhabitants). This figure increased by 11% in the Republic of Mari El (181 units). The provision of cars increased by more than 10% in the Ivanovo region (195 units, +10.8%) and the Chuvash Republic (192 units, +10.3%).

“Provision with cars in Russia is still 2 times lower than in developed European countries, and 3 times lower than in the USA. At the same time, it is growing from year to year. And even in the absence of positive market dynamics, this indicator will continue to grow steadily,” notes Sergey Tselikov, director of the Avtostat analytical agency. - According to our estimates, in about 8–10 years, the provision indicator will approach the level of countries of Eastern Europe- 400 cars per 1000 inhabitants.
