How attackers operate
Most often, autolady is chosen as a victim. But they do not hesitate to "help" young inexperienced men, as well as those who went to the store with children. The calculation is that the driver is not too well versed in the device of his car. And with a child, few people want to “cook” on a winter road.
The scam is simple. While you are walking around the hypermarket, attackers inject waste oil or other liquid into the exhaust pipe or under the hood, which starts to smoke when the parts exhaust system heating up. To understand what happened to the car, in this case, not everyone can. Then the fun begins: elements of psychological pressure are combined with sleight of hand.
You are offered to open the hood and see what is smoking there. Agreed - blame yourself. While you inspect the engine and try to figure out where the drops of oily fluid on the exhaust manifold came from, sympathetic assistants suggest getting a rag and checking the oil level. You take out the dipstick and hear oohs and oohs, how bad everything is. Complaints to the police, as practice shows, do not give anything. Law enforcement officers can accept the application, but refuse to initiate proceedings due to the lack of corpus delicti. And in most cases they are right: the driver was not forced to agree to the evacuation, they were not dragged by force to a suspicious service. He himself agreed to the help of strangers, voluntarily gave the car into the hands of craftsmen of dubious qualifications, who repaired it as best they could. And that they did the “extra” work, so this is just reinsurance, and not malicious intent at all. Try to prove otherwise!

Most often, crooks drive a tow truck to immediately offer “help”, take them to a car service where their business partners work, accomplices in fact.
And here there is one trouble-free focus. The driver is asked to lift the hood to "look what's what." Well, this naturally looks like checking the oil level in the engine. They ask to bring a rag, because everyone has a rag in the trunk.
While a person goes for a rag, scammers remove the high-voltage wire from the ignition coil. Then the oil level is checked, and the scammers state the fact that there is not enough oil, raise a panic, ask them to try to start the engine. Of course the engine won't start!
A victim on the hook. She sees a broken car. A tow truck that will not costly take the car, and even to the nearest service station, and even where the masters are experienced and the price is acceptable.

Actually, there are not so many divorce options on the road - they differ in details, but in fact they boil down to two main reasons. The first is a violation of the law (accident, downed pedestrian), the second is a car malfunction (smoke from the hood, a flat tire). In the first case, a potential client is “taken in fear”, in the second case, they are bribed with care and a desire to help. The hero of our story just met on the road with volunteer assistant. But he did not listen to his persuasion ...
