Kia Magentis is a mid-range sedan of the South Korean automobile manufacturer Kia Motors. Since its appearance on the domestic market, most motorists have perceived Kia Magentis as a company car for an average official, as well as a more affordable alternative to the Toyota Camry and the like. The first thing that attracts this car is a good ratio of size and cost. Few manufacturers can offer "the same amount of business class" for reasonable money. But how things are with the reliability of this model after many years of operation, and whether it is worth considering Kia Magentis 2 for a second-hand purchase, now let's try to find out.

A bit of history:

Kia Magentis was presented to the public at the end of 2000 at the auto show in Paris, and the following year, mass production of the model started. Magentis was the first joint development of the two largest Korean corporations Hyundai and Kia. The novelty received a promising name, consisting of two English words "majestic" and "genteel", which in translation into Russian sound like "majestic" and "noble". In many markets (China, USA, etc.), this model is better known as . Magentis shares a platform with the fourth-generation Hyundai Sonata and was only offered as a sedan. The car was restyled twice in 2002 and 2004, during which the main focus was on changing the interior and exterior, as well as improving equipment.

The debut of Kia Magentis 2 took place in 2005 at the Frankfurt International Motor Show. The best specialists from the innovation centers of Europe, Korea and the USA took part in the development of this generation. Like its predecessor, the new product was still called Optima in the US market, and the car was known as the "Kia Lotze" in the local Korean market. The second generation of Kia Magentis appeared on the Russian market in 2007. The car survived the first major modernization in 2008, the updated car was presented at the auto show in New York. During the restyling, the front and rear of the car, interior design have changed significantly, and engine power has also been increased. The design development was led by the famous German specialist Peter Schreyer, who later became the chief designer of Kia, and a little later - one of the three presidents of the company. The production of the model lasted until 2011, after which a new model, which received the global name Optima, took its place on the market. This car was presented in 2010 at the New York Auto Show.

Weaknesses of Kia Magentis 2 with mileage

Traditionally for Korean cars, the paintwork is soft and poorly resistant to mechanical damage - scratches and chips appear even from slight contact of the car body with branches. Corrosion resistance of body iron is at a fairly high level, but there are still a couple of weak points here. The rear drain requires special attention - over time, “bugs” appear on it. In the early stages, to remove the “saffron milk caps”, it is enough to wipe the problem area with a special solution or gasoline, if you start it, you will have to repaint it. Also, a rusty coating on the paint surface can be seen on the doors ( rust crawls out from under the moldings and door handles). If you follow the body and eliminate the “bugs” in a timely manner, there will be no serious problems with the body (I have not seen any complaints that the metal has rotted to holes). The chrome on the radiator grill does not indulge in its durability either - it begins to peel off after 3-5 years of car operation. The chrome trim on the door windows may also begin to peel off.

Over time, when driving on uneven roads, an unpleasant creak from the windshield lining appears. Temporarily get rid of the annoying squeak helps treatment with silicone grease and car wash. To permanently fix the problem, the pad must be put on double-sided tape or sealant. The locks of the rear doors also received a lot of criticism, at the most inopportune moment they can stop opening. The front optics, on restyled copies of the Kia Magentis 2, are prone to fogging in wet weather and temperature changes. The protective plastic of the front optics is covered with a fine "mesh" over time. The rear number rattles when the trunk lid is closed, pasting the frame with vibroplast and splenitis helps to solve the problem. In cars equipped with heated wipers, in the cold season, the windshield often cracks due to temperature changes. The rubber bands of the original wipers become very hard in frost, therefore, when replacing, it is better to give preference to an analogue.

Power units

Kia Magentis 2 was equipped with gasoline engines equipped with a CVVT system - 2.0 (144, 150 hp), 2.4 (162, 175 hp), 2.7 (188, 193 hp) and diesel CRDi - 2.0 (140 and 150 hp). In most CIS countries, cars equipped only with 2.0 and 2.7 gasoline engines were officially sold. Petrol 2.4 and diesel engines, as a rule, were offered for the European market. All power units are sharpened to Euro 4 standards and are sensitive to the quality of fuels and lubricants. If, for example, gasoline engines are fed with “bad” gasoline, the “Check Engine” error will pop up on the instrument panel, and the life of the catalysts will significantly decrease (there are 3 of them in the 2.7 engine). In diesel engines, the exhaust system begins to “smoke” strongly, and early replacement of the particulate filter may also be required. The Koreans, knowing what quality of fuel our gas stations offer, have released a new firmware for the engine control unit, which reconfigures the engine to Euro 3 standards. This problem is relevant for cars manufactured after 2008.

The CVVT system, which was equipped with all gasoline engines, is demanding on the quality of the oil. With untimely maintenance of the power unit (oil change every 8-10 thousand km), the process of coking of the valve of this system is accelerated. The increased noise (knock) of the engine at idle will tell about the presence of problems with the valve. If you can notice the problem at an early stage, flushing will be enough to eliminate it; in advanced cases, you have to change the valve. The disadvantages of gasoline engines include leaks in the gasket of the oil pan and front cover. In addition, for overly active drivers, closer to 150,000 km, the front crankshaft oil seal may leak. If oil leaks are not corrected in a timely manner, this can lead to failure of the attachment pulley with a rubber damper clutch. Due to the fact that the 2.0 motor does not have hydraulic lifters, many servicemen recommend adjusting valve clearances every 80-100 thousand kilometers. Crankshaft and camshaft sensors, as well as oxygen sensors (there are two of them), can start to mope on a run of 100-120 thousand km

At idle, the engines can “dieselize” until a certain warm-up, the official dealer does not recognize this as a malfunction, calling this behavior of the engine its feature. The power unit of the G4KD 4B11 brand emits a “chirring” during operation, thereby making the owners nervous, but there is no reason to worry, since this is a feature of the nozzles. If vibrations appear at speeds from 1000 to 1300, most likely it's time to change the candles. The service life of catalysts is 120-150 thousand km, if it is not replaced in a timely manner, when it is destroyed, its particles will fall into the cylinder, because of this, scoring will form there. There are no specific statistics on the shortcomings of diesel engines, the only thing that can be stated with certainty is that in our realities, after 100,000 km of run, they will have problems with fuel equipment, a particulate filter ( when removed, the ECU firmware needs to be replaced) and the EGR valve. Eliminating any of these problems will result in a tidy sum.

Transmission

One of two types of gearboxes was installed on Kia Magentis 2 - a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed Tiptronic automatic, which, after restyling, was replaced by a 5-speed automatic transmission. Operating experience has shown that all gearboxes are reliable and with timely maintenance ( oil change in manual transmission every 60,000 km, in automatic transmission every 90,000 km) do not cause unnecessary trouble. The clutch in mechanics can last up to 150,000 km. In diesel versions, once every 100-120 thousand kilometers, a dual-mass flywheel needs to be replaced. Symptoms - a characteristic knock appears during clutch engagement. Shifting manual transmission gears on some instances is accompanied by a noisy clatter - the problem is not cured. The speed of the automatic transmission as a whole is not high. When shifting gears, slight jerks are felt, but there are no serious complaints about the operation of the transmission. The key to the longevity of automatic transmissions is a sedate ride (especially in "cold" winters) and timely maintenance.

Disadvantages of the Kia Magentis 2 suspension

Kia Magentis, like most business sedans, has a knocked down chassis and has a good energy intensity. A two-lever MacPherson-type design is used in front, a “multi-link” in the back, and anti-roll bars are installed on both axles. The suspension is strong, but it is characterized by increased noise, most often the cause of knocks in the suspension is the anthers of the shock absorbers - in winter they freeze and slip out of the mounts. Also, while driving on small bumps and under heavy load, shock absorbers can tap, after a slight warm-up, the knock disappears. In 2010, the part was upgraded and the problem became less common. There is a more serious drawback - over time, the breakup bolts of the rear suspension arms turn sour, which is why it is no longer possible to set the wheel angles. To avoid problems, the bolts must be periodically lubricated.

But the resource of the original suspension elements cannot but rejoice. Stabilizer struts nursed 40-50 thousand km, bushings - up to 80,000 km. Silent blocks of front suspension arms serve 100-150 thousand km, wheel bearings and shock absorbers run about the same. Ball bearings nurse up to 200,000 km. In the rear suspension, the “ball” upper wishbones are the first to give up, this happens on a run of 100-130 thousand km. The remaining elements go 150-200 thousand km. The steering rack is equipped with a hydraulic booster, in most cases problems with it begin after 100,000 km of run - the bushings break (the rack is repairable). Steering tips on average go 100-120 thousand km, thrust - up to 150,000 km. The brakes are reliable, but require periodic maintenance - it is recommended to lubricate the caliper guides. If you do not use the handbrake for a long time, the cable becomes rusty and sour, because of this it has to be changed.

Salon and electrical equipment

The quality of the interior finishing materials of the Kia Magentis 2 is at a fairly high level - high-quality plastic is used (does not creak), the fabric trim of the seats is non-staining and retains its presentation for a long time. But the sound insulation was frankly disappointing, especially the arches and the bottom - the noise of the wheels is heard, especially when driving on paving stones and in the rain. The problem is solved only by installing additional sound insulation. Also, the disadvantages include insufficiently high-quality leather on the steering wheel braid and gear knob - it is quickly overwritten. As for electrical equipment, the dampers of the ventilation system require special attention here - they often fail. The air conditioner has the feature of automatically turning on when the windshield heating mode is selected. There may be other problems with the interior electrics, so it is better to check the performance of all equipment before buying.

Outcome:

Despite its middle age, the owners have no serious complaints about the reliability of the Kia Magentis 2, and those minor problems that may arise during operation will not require the owner to make significant investments in elimination. It is up to you to decide whether to buy such a car or not, for my part I can only add that this model definitely deserves attention.

If you are the owner of this car model, please describe the problems that you had to face during the operation of the car. Perhaps it is your review that will help readers of our site when choosing a car.

Sincerely, editorial Autoavenue

It is worth saying v6, those who understand know what it is about. The blockage of the wheels when turning is impressive. Ship. Salon with high ceilings and luxurious armchairs. The trunk is already roomy, and the folding rear seats are very convenient both when transporting cargo and when you have to spend the night in a car. THAT I did not even notice - rare and liquid.

Kia Magentis, 2006

Confidently holds the road at high speeds, confident acceleration. Engine power, as for me, is enough with the head, in sharp turns and a hint of stall (like a tram on rails). I didn’t notice suspension breakdowns on our “wonderful” roads. Noise isolation is on top, but the engine starts to be heard from 5000 rpm, but this does not interfere with talking without raising your voice. The salon is comfortable, spacious... The car is solid and beautiful!

Kia Magentis, 2007

During the operation of this car, I went to different gov ..... made in Japan, Germany, the USSR, etc., the time has come to choose and decide. Having traveled to car dealerships in the year of purchase, assessing their purchasing power and finances, they settled on KIA-Mazhentis and he justified it in terms of price and build quality, driving performance of the engine to highly promoted brands of the global auto industry. The pocket during operation does not pull all consumables at a price corresponding to the middle class. In short, what to paint a car? He doesn't disappoint, he's just OK.

Kia Magentis is a mid-size D class sedan. It is a very close relative of the fourth generation Hyundai Sonata. The cars differ only in the details of the exterior design and equipment. Appearance for those times turned out to be reasonable and attractive, but today the rear optics look old-fashioned.

In the Korean and American markets, the car was called Optima. Since 2001, a sedan for Russia has been assembled in Kaliningrad at the Avtotor enterprise. In 2003, the model went through a restyling. The most characteristic changes are the front optics with separate headlights, a new front bumper and a radiator grille.

Magentis offered a range of standard equipment along with options. All cars were equipped with air conditioning, electrically controlled mirrors, windows and locks. Basic fabric seats could be upgraded to leather for an extra charge. Richer trims boast cruise control, ABS with brake force distribution, TSC traction control, a power driver's seat, climate control, wood inserts and even a sunroof.

In 2001, the "American" Optima earned only one star in crash tests according to the IIHS version.

Engines

Kia Magentis of the Kaliningrad assembly was offered with 2.0 l / 136 hp gasoline engines. and 2.5 l / 168 hp These units are the most common in the secondary market (more than 90%).

The remaining engine options in the ads are hardly more than a couple of dozen. And these are Korean basic versions with a four-cylinder 1.8 liter (Betta / G4GB / 131 hp series and Sirius II / G4JN / 125 and 134 hp series). In the American market, the palette began with a 2.4-liter inline-four (138-149 hp). Six-cylinder 2.7 l / 170 hp appeared in the American Optima after restyling.

The timing of the 2.0L (Sirius II/G4JP) and 2.4L (Sirius II/G4JS) inline-fours is driven by a toothed belt. It should be changed every 40-50 thousand km. Cheap analogues are often torn after 20-30 thousand km. As a result, pistons and valves are damaged. In case of trouble, you should prepare for repairs in the amount of about 50,000 rubles. Approximately the same amount will be asked for a contract motor.

Keep in mind that replacing the timing belt on Sirius series engines requires some experience. The presence of a balance shaft complicates the exact exhibition of labels. If the marks do not match, vibration appears, and the motor loses traction.

V-shaped sixes - 2.5-liter (Delta / G6BV) and 2.7-liter (Delta / G6BA) - use a combined timing drive: belt plus chain. The timing belt drives the intake camshafts, which are connected to the exhaust shafts by a chain. The service life of the chain is more than 250-300 thousand km. Timing belt troubles are much less common here.

Cases of engine overhaul are observed after 200-300 thousand km. Reasons for opening - an increase in oil consumption and a loss of compression in one of the cylinders. For repairs, you will need about 50,000 rubles. Fortunately, capital is not a general phenomenon.

After 150-200 thousand km, they may require replacement of the engine mount and gearbox (1-2 thousand rubles per pillow), as well as the throttle position sensor and ignition coils (from 1,500 rubles). Soon the radiator may leak (from 3,000 rubles).

Interruptions in the operation of a 2-liter unit are often caused by a failed crankshaft position sensor (2,500 rubles). To replace it, you will have to remove the timing drive. From time to time, the ITS J5T ignition sensor also fails. At the same time, the tachometer stops working. The cost of an analogue is from 1,500 rubles. However, some manage to revive the sensor with a soldering iron.

After 150-250 thousand km, catalysts fail. Over time, the corrugation of the exhaust pipe burns out.

Hydraulic valve clearance compensators begin to knock after 200-250 thousand km: first on a cold one, and then after warming up.

In the domestic market of South Korea, cars with engines designed to run on gas were also sold. In the secondary market there are such instances. It should be borne in mind that with age, the number of problems with gas equipment inevitably increases.

Transmission

The engines were combined with a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic. Automatic transmission - Japanese F4A42 developed by Mitsubishi. The box is strong and durable. The first complaints about work are found after 200-300 thousand km and more often in cars with powerful V6s. Failures can occur due to speed sensor failure, as well as oxidation or damage to contacts and wiring. It comes to serious repairs after 300,000 km, which will require about 50,000 rubles.

Nothing is known about mechanical problems. Unless you have to change the clutch (11,000 rubles along with work), and in cars with a 2.5-liter unit, there is also an expensive dual-mass flywheel. The cost of the original node is almost 50,000 rubles. Fortunately, you can pick up an analogue for 9-10 thousand rubles.

Chassis

The front axle uses a double wishbone system, while the rear axle uses a multi-link system with steering effect. The suspension is quite soft, the body rolls strongly in corners and sways on gentle waves. Steering response is slow and blurry.

Wheel bearings run more than 100-150 thousand km (1-2 thousand rubles). Shock absorbers, silent blocks and ball bearings will serve no less. After a while, the rear springs can sag.

The steering rack can knock or leak after 200-250 thousand km. Over 9,000 rubles will have to be paid for a new rail.

Other problems and malfunctions

Traces of corrosion on the body of an already middle-aged Magentis can often be found in the area of the rear wheel arches and sills.

A crack in the top of a metal fuel tank is a common occurrence. A faulty adsorber contributes to the defect. The cost of a new fuel tank is from 8,000 rubles, and an adsorber - from 3,000 rubles.

Sometimes the air conditioning compressor clutch fails (from 2,000 rubles) or the compressor itself (from 9,000 rubles for an analogue). And after 200-250 thousand km, the generator may also require attention (from 5,000 rubles).

Violations in the operation of the air conditioning system occur as a result of unscrewing the screws securing the damper drive motor, wear of the motor itself (1,000 rubles) or disconnecting the pipe connecting the stove to the climate control unit.

Conclusion

There is no doubt: the first generation Kia Magentis is a completely reliable car. Most problems and malfunctions are due to solid mileage and decent age. Fortunately, all malfunctions are easily fixed and do not require large expenses ... unless you take into account the possible repair of the machine or engine (after a broken timing belt).

KIA Magentis 2 (Kia Magentis)- D-class sedan of the Korean company Kia Motors, the production of which started in 2005. Business class sedans have always been quite in demand among domestic motorists. And this is not surprising, since such cars not only give a high level of comfort, but also emphasize the status of their owner in the best possible way. Today, there are many different branded cars of this class on the secondary market, but most of them not only cost significantly more than KIA Magentis 2, but are also inferior to it in terms of reliability and maintenance costs.

Problem areas and disadvantages of KIA Magentis 2 with mileage

LKP- the paint of the car, in accordance with the latest environmental standards, is made on a water basis, which in turn negatively affected its resistance to mechanical damage, because of this, the body quickly acquires all kinds of scratches and chips.

Metal- despite the fact that the body iron is well protected from corrosion, certain problems still exist. Most quickly, "saffron milk mushrooms" appear in the rear drain and on the doors (in the area of handles and moldings). At an early stage, to localize the red disease, it will be enough to treat problem areas with a rust remover. If rust is not removed for a long time, problem parts will have to be repainted in the future. In cars of the first years of production, traces of corrosion can be found in places of chipped paintwork or after poor-quality body repairs.

Chromium, on a false radiator grill, painfully endures a meeting with chemicals, because of this, after 3-4 years of operation it becomes cloudy, and then begins to climb. Also, chrome trims installed around the door glasses can be attributed to problem areas - they peel off over time.

Frontal glass- the original glass is quite delicate, because of this it quickly acquires chips and scratches. The use of heated wipers in severe frost, on an unheated car, often ends in the appearance of cracks on the glass. Another problematic place is the windshield lining, which over time begins to creak while driving on rough roads. To eliminate the disease, you need to fix the pad with double-sided tape or sealant.

"Wipers"- the original wiper rubber bands are not of the best quality, and with the advent of cold weather they also become very tan.

Locks doors- they can stop opening, more often the ailment comprehends the locks of the rear doors.

Optics- prone to fogging, especially on restyled versions. There are complaints about the quality of the protective plastic of the headlights - it becomes cloudy over time and becomes covered with small cracks. Also, the disadvantages include the need to remove the headlight to replace the turn signal lamp.

Frame rear numbers- many owners do not like that it rattles when the trunk lid is closed. The problem is eliminated by sticking a vibroplast or splenitis between the frame and the car body.

Established mud flaps- made of hard plastic, they often break even from slight contact with the curb.

Weak points of motors

KIA Magentis 2 was equipped with three atmospheric gasoline engines 2.0 (140 and 150 hp), 2.4 (162, 175 hp) - installed only on European versions, 2.7 (193 hp) and one diesel CRDI with a volume 2.0 liters (150 hp). In gasoline engines, a CVVT valve timing system is used, which painfully endures untimely maintenance. If you do not follow the assigned regulations or pour anything into the engine, everything can end up with coking of the system valve, followed by expensive repairs. It is also worth noting the sensitivity of all engines to fuel quality - when using "suragat", in addition to deteriorating dynamics, an engine error (check engine) may pop up on the panel, and catalyst wear is also significantly accelerated. The Korean manufacturer is aware of the quality of fuel in our regions, and in this regard, he gave an official recommendation to dealers to update the firmware of the engine control unit that applied to customers, which reconfigures the unit to Euro 3 standards.

Two-liter engines - G4KA and G4KD

The weakest motor in the line is also the most reliable, as a rule, with proper maintenance, it does not cause serious problems. Most often, owners are bothered by typical malfunctions such as increased noise and vibration. When a whistle appears, first of all, it is necessary to check the condition of the air conditioning compressor. After 100,000 km, you need to monitor the condition of the catalyst, since when it is destroyed, ceramic dust enters the cylinders and provokes scoring in them. At 120-150 thousand kilometers, crankshaft and camshaft sensors, and oxygen sensors (two of them) need to be replaced.

Closer to 150,000 km of run, on most specimens, a replacement of the front crankshaft oil seal is required - it starts to flow. With the replacement of the current oil seal, it is better not to tighten it, since the leaking oil can disable the attachment pulley with a rubber damper clutch. On the same run, they may be asked to replace the oil pan gasket and front cover. When using low-quality gasoline, the throttle assembly quickly becomes clogged. A metal chain works in the timing drive of this unit, which does not require attention for a long time. But there are no hydraulic lifters here, so it is recommended to adjust the valves every 80-100 thousand km (for gas-powered cars, every 40-50 thousand km). With the G4KD motor, a fairly common problem is the failure of the phase regulator. The resource of motors is about 300,000 km.

G6EA - 2.7 liters

Unlike weaker engines, this unit has a timing belt drive, which is recommended to be serviced every 60,000 km (replacing the belt and rollers). At the same run, you need to change the belt of the balancing shafts. Due to this feature of the V6, as well as due to the difficulties of replacing belts (poor access), the maintenance of this engine is quite expensive. Despite this, it is not worth tightening with the replacement of belts, since when they break, a fatal meeting of valves with pistons occurs. VIS swirl flaps can cause the most problems, often they spontaneously unscrew and enter the combustion chamber. It is also worth noting the weak exhaust manifolds and the low resource of catalysts, of which there are two at once.

Quite often, the owners of KIA Magentis 2 blame the floating engine speeds, often the culprits of this ailment are the idle speed sensor and severe throttle contamination. After 150,000 km, the engine begins to eat up oil, with an increase in mileage, consumption will only increase. The reason is piston ring wear. Among the shortcomings of this motor, one can note the increased noise of the hydraulic lifters. The resource of this unit is 400-500 thousand km.

Diesel engine - D4EA

A heavy-fuel engine is famous for its good dynamics and high-torque power with moderate fuel consumption. However, in our operating conditions, the maintenance of a car with a diesel unit does not look so attractive due to the high cost of repairs and maintenance. Given the low quality of our diesel fuel, fuel equipment - injectors and high-pressure fuel pumps - can cause problems in the first place. Another "raise factor" in the cost of owning a diesel engine is a particulate filter, unless, of course, the previous owner cut it out. With untimely maintenance, the oil receiver quickly clogs, which in turn leads to oil starvation and cranking of the liners. A fairly common occurrence is the premature failure of the pressure regulator and the EGR valve, which often freezes in the open position.

On some instances, malfunctions of the computer are observed (the operating voltage decreases), as a result of which the power unit may freeze at certain speeds. On cars with high mileage, there are frequent cases of microcracks in the cylinder head. The general condition of the engine and its systems largely depends on the quality of previous maintenance: after the "economists" it is quite possible to get problems with the same injectors, turbine (resource 100-150 thousand km) and glow plugs - which can be easily rolled up if they are in last changed many years ago.

Problem areas of transmission KIA Magentis 2

For KIA Magentis 2, two types of transmission are available: 5-speed manual and 4-speed Tiptronic “automatic”, automatic transmission in cars of the last years of production ̶ 5-speed. Both boxes are very successful and, with timely maintenance, do not bother their owners with frequent breakdowns.

Mechanics- despite the fact that the manual transmission has no obvious weaknesses, it is necessary to operate a car with this type of transmission carefully, since the mechanics do not like an aggressive driving style - an expensive clutch and a dual-mass flywheel (for cars with a diesel engine) quickly give up. With careful handling of the gearbox, the clutch will last 120-150 thousand km, the dual-mass flywheel up to 200,000 km. On some instances, gear shifting may be accompanied by excessive noise (clattering) - this ailment is not treated.

Machine- The automatic transmission turned out to be surprisingly unpretentious and tenacious. As with mechanics, the key to the longevity of this transmission is careful operation and timely maintenance (transmission fluid replacement every 40,000 km). Among the shortcomings of the "machine" can be noted excessive thoughtfulness and rather hard gear shifting (jerks).

Suspension, steering and brakes

The KIA Magentis 2 uses an independent suspension, which provides the car with good handling and energy intensity: in front - a two-lever design, in the back - a "three-link". The suspension of the KIA Magentis 2 is quite strong and does not require special attention for a long time. Of the shortcomings, one can note, perhaps, excessive noise. As a rule, the culprits of the noise are the anthers of the shock absorbers (popping out of the seats), in the cold season, the shock absorbers themselves can tap on small irregularities. At each maintenance, it is recommended to lubricate the breakaway bolts, the fact is that they are poorly protected from corrosion and become very sour over time.

Resource of original suspension parts:

 • Stabilizer racks - 30-50 thousand km;
 • Stabilizer bushings - 50-80 thousand km;
 • Shock absorbers - 100-150 thousand km (may start to "snot" after 50,000 km);
 • Ball bearings - 100-150 thousand km;
 • Wheel bearings - 100-150 thousand km;
 • Silent blocks of the front levers - about 150 thousand km;
 • Ball rear upper arms - 100-120 thousand km;
 • Rear suspension rubber bands - up to 200,000 km, with severe wear of the so-called floating silent blocks, you will have to change the upper wishbones (change as an assembly).

Steering in the steering system, a rack and pinion mechanism with hydraulic power steering is used. The steering rack is rather weak and can knock without having served even 100,000 km (plastic bushings break). You should not count on a long service life and some steering consumables - on average, steering tips are enough for 80-100 thousand km, traction is surrendered closer to 150,000 km.

brakes- the brake system of KIA Magentis 2 is reliable and should not cause unnecessary problems, the main thing is not to forget to lubricate the caliper guides with each change of brake pads. Drivers with an aggressive driving style note that after a long drive there is a smell of burnt brake pads. As a rule, the culprit is the original pads, which can burn out with frequent braking. The problem is solved by installing a high-quality analogue. With rare use of the handbrake, there is a high probability of souring of the cable in the sheath, after which it will need to be replaced.

Salon and electronics

KIA Magentis 2 has a fairly spacious interior with solid finishing materials. The disadvantages here include perhaps weak lateral support for the front seats and sound insulation. It is also worth noting the poor wear resistance of the leather on the braid of the steering wheel and gearshift lever. On some copies, rather weak latches for lining the trunk lid are installed - the problem is solved by installing fasteners from the VAZ 2109. Also, many note that the rear seat backs have an uncomfortable folding mechanism.

The electrical equipment of the cabin is also quite reliable, among the problem areas here one can single out the unreliability of the dampers of the heating ventilation system (they stop working and only hot air enters the cabin), malfunctions of the air conditioner (in automatic mode it turns on only the minimum fan speed or turns off when the windshield blower is turned on ).

To summarize:

Despite the middle age of KIA Magentis 2, it can be safely called a trouble-free car. Therefore, if you are looking for a reliable, inexpensive solid car that is equally well suited both for operation in a metropolis and for long-distance forced marches, this model is definitely worth a closer look. The best option for purchasing would be post-styling versions released after 2008, since in such instances most childhood diseases have already been cured.

If you have experience with KIA Magentis 2, please tell us what problems and difficulties you had to face. Perhaps it is your review that will help readers of our site when choosing a car.

“Kia Magentis” of the previous generation, being a model of the “family” category, cost no more than a golf class car (the Russian assembly provided an affordable price). Nevertheless, this sedan did not enjoy much success with us. Buyers were little attracted by the inexpressive design and by no means outstanding quality of interior trim. Built on the same platform, “Hyundai Sonata” has earned much greater popularity ... And in March, a fundamentally different “Magentis” enters our market, nothing like its predecessor. Its trump cards are a modern look, more powerful engines, and a high-quality interior. The distributor of the Korean brand - the company "Kia Sandol" invited us to get acquainted with the novelty in Spain, where the European premiere of "Magentis" was held.

In the land of winemakers

The modern interior is a big step forward compared to the old Magentis.

A few days before the flight to Spain, I received a package from Kia Sandol. Inside is a large wall calendar. Traditionally, such a branded “souvenir” contains promotional shots of the model range, but here there was something different – landscapes of rare beauty. From the signatures it followed that these were famous wine regions: Bordeaux, Champagne, the Rhone Valley... And here is the logo of a Korean company. That's how exquisitely "Kia" now presents itself. Creating a rather aristocratic image is an important part of the company's strategy in recent years: after all, Kia cars are also reaching a new qualitative level.

The previous version of "Magentis" was based on the fifth generation "Hyundai Sonata" platform. Last year Sonata had a successor - a new model "NF", which its creators tried to bring as close as possible to European standards in terms of design, power, and equipment. The debutant from “Kia” is now also coming out on the same new platform.

Cars were waiting for us on the southwestern coast of Spain, in the city of Jerez. (I wonder if winemaking is becoming a part of Kia's corporate style?) Here, at the end of winter, it is quite warm, cherry blossoms begin to bloom. And the places are suitable for driving: there are high-speed highways, or you can rush along picturesque mountain serpentines with a breeze. Therefore, I decided to start my acquaintance with the new “Magentis” with the most powerful modification. And here is the first surprise: the flagship 3.3-liter V6, which is supplied with the Hyundai NF, is not installed on the Kia. The debutant received a more modest engine - a volume of 2.7 liters. The platform is one, but the status is lower?

The winding road requires every now and then to slow down before turns and again take acceleration on straight lines. An engine that develops 188 forces does this with ease. A little pacifies his ardor only "automatic". Here it is a 5-speed, tuned for comfortable - extremely smooth - shifts. It turns out a little faster if you put the box in manual mode. A traditional manual transmission for a 2.7-liter engine is not provided.

The mountain track, which had to be driven at a ragged rhythm, soon turned into a spacious highway, and if “Magentis” were a living creature, I would say that he cheered up. In the left lane of the highway, the speedometer needle quickly crept up to 200 km / h. According to the passport, the maximum is 220 km / h, but I did not dare to check this. Let the road be empty and the police not visible, but you never know what ...

Since the new sedan was created with an eye on European buyers, Kia for the first time included a diesel version in the range of modifications. Interesting to try! The organizers provided for a stop for a short rest, after which I moved to a car with a “2.0 CRDi” engine. Its 140 HP more suitable for a phlegmatic ride, and the “automatic” is outdated here - 4-speed. At the first opportunity, I gave this car to my Bulgarian colleagues - anyway, the diesel version will not be delivered to Russia. In return, I received “Magentis” from them with a base gasoline engine. This is also a new 2-liter "four". It seemed that one could not expect much agility from her, but with this 145-horsepower engine and with a manual transmission (by the way, you can order an “automatic” as well), the sedan drove surprisingly cheerfully. Affects less compared to the flagship weight (this modification is lighter by almost 100 kg than the version with V6).

On the way to a sports option?

In the BRIGHT rays of the southern sun, Magentis looks solid and elegant. No comparison to the boring exterior of its predecessor. But if the sister model "NF" from "Hyundai" has a lot of memorable features (narrowed headlights, pointed lines, etc.), then the creators of the new "Magentis" decided not to look for fresh ideas. With a cursory glance from the debutant, it can be mistaken for a Toyota Camry or for some of the Lexuses of the past generation, and the closest analogy is the Infiniti Q45. To consider this similarity as a disadvantage or advantage is a matter of personal taste ...

From now on, there is absolutely nothing to complain about in the cabin. The boring lines, pale plastics and fake wood that used to decorate the interior of the previous model are a thing of the past. They were replaced by a strict finish in the “business style”, competent ergonomics ... The steering wheel is adjustable in a very wide range both in height and in reach. Stylish instruments with blue backlight are perfectly readable. On request, you can also get the now fashionable engine start system without a key.

In models of the “family” class, a lot of attention is traditionally paid to the comfort of passengers, but the previous “Magentis”, to be honest, did not shine with such advantages. Despite the large size of the body, the back was a bit cramped. Passengers taller than average, one might say, propped up the ceiling with their heads. Now, no problem. It had an effect that the novelty is both longer and wider, and most importantly, the ceiling has risen noticeably - by as much as 7 cm. The creators of the model are proud to note that in terms of headroom, “Magentis” outperforms its European and Japanese counterparts - “Ford Mon-deo ”, “Mazda 6” and “Peugeot 407”.

At the same time, the comparison of the new “Magentis” with the world leaders of the D-class does not seem at all strained, and this is the main merit of the debutant's developers. Brand "Kia" from the "affordable" segment stepped up a notch. As marketers say, it has been repositioned.

At the press conference, the topic of promoting the Korean brand received an unexpected

turn. A Romanian colleague asked a seemingly naive question:

– “Kia” sponsors sporting events: World Cup, tennis Davis Cup, “Australian Open”. Isn't it time to release sports cars too? For example, to make a “hot” version in the “Magentis” range, like, say, “Mazda 6 MPS” ...

The response of Won-Dong Choi, deputy head of Kia's Middle East and Africa division, wiped the ironic smiles from the journalists' faces:

We also recommend test drives of competing cars

Audi A6
(4-door sedan)

Generation C8 Test drives 21

You hit the mark, we are working on it.

Damn it, do the Koreans really intend to release a sports sedan ?! But then the speaker, without blinking an eye, clarified:

- Actually, we will not change the suspension and motors, but the bumpers, sills and radiator grille will receive a bright dynamic design.

There was no sensation. However, a bit of external individuality really will not be superfluous for the novelty from “Kia”. The "Magentis" sedan with a "sporty slant" the company is preparing to introduce by the end of the year.

The Koreans compare the new "Magentis" with the best European and Japanese counterparts, and these comparisons do not look strained.

P.S. The previous generation of "Magentis", produced in Russia, is now leaving the scene - dealers are selling the last copies. And the debutant is already on his way to the salons. But this is "Magentis" made in Korea. The contract for the Russian assembly has been terminated.
