The first generation Subaru Impreza debuted in 1992 as a sedan and station wagon. Later, in 1994, exclusive Impreza with a coupe body began to be produced in a small edition. The car occupied an empty niche between the Subaru Legacy and Subaru Justy. At first, the authors of the Impreza project had one task - to make such a serial car that would become a reliable "base" for participation, and possibly for victory in the WRC World Rally Championship. Thanks to the efforts of the designers, the car turned out to be bright and unusual, and it was this super-individuality that was the trump card that allowed the Subaru Impreza to establish itself in the market and win the recognition of customers.

Stylish body design looks great to this day. The interior is rather austere, mainly due to the abundance of plastic, but the build quality and fit of materials covers this shortcoming. The interior is not too spacious, but the ergonomics of the driver's seat is close to ideal. Impreza was positioned not just as a family car, but as a car with a "sporty bias". At a very reasonable cost, the model was able to give the driver a lot of pleasure from active driving.

Three configurations - front-wheel drive Impreza with a 1.5 l / 90 hp engine, all-wheel drive with a 1.6 l / 102 hp engine, and all-wheel drive with a 1.8 l / 115 hp engine. Until 1999, not a single complete change in the Subaru Impreza lineup was carried out, only a partial restyling of the body took place. In 2000, the debut of the second generation took place.

The Impreza WRX sedan began to be equipped with a 250 hp turbocharged engine. and a natural intake engine with a capacity of 155 hp. For real fans of this brand, the Subaru Impreza WRX STi was also released in 2000 with a 4-cylinder EJ20 horizontally opposed engine. He developed 280 hp. with a torque of 38.0 kg / m. This car was equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission with close gear ratios. The Subaru Impreza WRX STi was shod with 16-inch tires. Large intercooler, independent suspension, Brembo braking system, etc. provided the car with excellent driving characteristics. The all-wheel drive system “consisted” of a central differential and a limited slip differential viscous coupling (Limited Slip Differential).

In 2002, the car underwent another minor update of the lineup, and, of course, the Impreza in the STi version only got better. The engine has been improved: increased torque. In addition, the car in the Spec C configuration was “shod” in 17-inch tires and equipped with an electronically controlled all-wheel drive system.

The second generation, in turn, can be divided into two versions: pre-styling and post-styling. They differ from each other only in small things, and the front of the Impreza, or rather, the front optics, has undergone the most cardinal facelift. The fact is that in 2002, a number of complaints were received from the Subaru factory rally team about the “stylish rounds” of the headlights. The shape of such optics did not allow to place racing spotlights in itself for better illumination of the track on high-speed sections with poor visibility. There were also serious dissatisfaction with the aerodynamics of the front end. The wishes were accepted, Subaru specialists thoroughly worked on the car, installing new, no less stylish block headlights instead of the round ones, and corrected the aerodynamics of the front end.

In general, the technical stuffing of the two generations of Impreza is practically the same, the modifications remained almost the same, only changing their name. And as for the types of engines, gearboxes, suspension geometry - all this was transferred from the old to the new generation with only a slight upgrade.

The third generation Impreza appeared on the Japanese market in 2007 and was initially presented only in a hatchback body. The model was equipped with a 1.5-liter DOHC engine with 107 hp. or a 2-liter SOHC with 150 hp, with the former available in combination with a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic, and the latter only with a 4-speed automatic. The car was offered in both single-wheel drive and all-wheel drive versions. In 2008, for marketing reasons, a sedan was added to the Impreza body line. The car was distinguished by increased comfort, a new design of the radiator grille, chrome-plated body trim elements and made an overall impression of luxury.

The longer wheelbase allowed for more rear passenger space, and a new suspension boosted boot space. The doors have been opened wider, in particular the rear doors now open to 75°, which increases the practicality of the car. For the first time, the Impreza has framed side windows on the doors for added sound deadening. Thanks to the independent suspension on double parallel A-arms, the trunk volume has increased. Both the sedan and the hatchback featured 60/40 split folding rear seats. The hatchback comes standard with a rear spoiler and is 160 mm shorter than the sedan. By tradition, the model received a proprietary symmetrical all-wheel drive.

The “charged” version of the WRX received a 2.5-liter turbo engine with a capacity of 230 hp. The engine has been significantly improved: the amount of harmful emissions has been significantly reduced. This naturally aspirated engine with an overhead camshaft received a new intake system, as well as a new type of catalytic converter. The top version of the Impreza received a new six-speed manual transmission.

The WRX STI features an even more powerful engine, unique aerodynamic attachments, upgraded suspension, 18-inch alloy wheels, Brembo braking system, CD changer, distinctive sports seats and Alcantara upholstery. STI model is equipped with SI-drive system, three engine operating modes, electric throttle. Options are two packages for the WRX. The BBS package includes BBS wheels and headlights, the BBS and Navigation package also includes a navigation system (replacing the conventional CD changer), trip computer and Bluetooth. Under the hood of the Impreza WRX STI is a turbocharged 2.5-liter DOHC with 300 hp. at 6000 rpm, which is paired with a six-speed manual transmission.

In the basic configuration, the car is equipped with two front and two side airbags, as well as inflatable curtains. On all versions, a collision-safe pedal assembly is installed. In most trim levels, a dynamic stabilization system (VDC) is installed.

In 2010, the Subaru Impreza family underwent restyling, receiving a new false radiator grille and a modified front bumper. I bought a car from an official dealer, very friendly guys, everything was done quickly and without errors, additional equipment was also quickly installed. From the "special stages" I advise you to install crankcase protection, a turbo timer and an alarm with a turbo timer. Before Subaru Impreza WRX there were VAZ 2112 (150 hp), Opel Astra 1.8 automatic. So essentially. Externally, the car looks very aggressive. Loved the big mirrors. The run-in took place up to 5000. The interior is quite roomy. With my height of 192 cm, I can easily fit behind the wheel and behind the driver's seat. All devices and buttons are located in their places. The speedometer is not visible to the passenger side. The trunk (glove compartment) is very small, but I don’t really need it, the car was not bought in order to carry potatoes. Subaru Impreza WRX is very confident on the road. You can drive around the city with all sorts of "upstarts" from traffic lights, though mostly these are Lancers (stock) and Mazda 3 (stock). There are also some interesting opponents. On the track, you don’t have to think about whether you have time to overtake or not, lightly pressing the gas pedal and the opponent’s car is already far behind. Gasoline consumption - what can I say, a 2.5-liter turbocharged engine appetizingly eats fuel. On the BC it shows 14.2, but I think that all 18 will be, or even more. But when you get behind the wheel of this "monster", you forget about the expense. Before buying a Subaru Impreza WRX, I read a lot of reviews, many write that the car is not for every day and it is inconvenient to drive in traffic jams - I don’t think so. I drive almost every day, and in traffic jams it is quite comfortable to move around. Machine at this stage is very satisfied.
