Let's start with the fact that the Grand C4 Picasso gives the impression of a fairly large car. But if you look at impartial figures, it turns out that the body of the minivan is even a little shorter than that of the C4 sedan! But the Picasso is 37mm wider and, most importantly, a whopping 12cm taller! This is what made it possible to accommodate three rows of seats in a compact body.


But what is nice, the car does not look at all like a short-haired fat man. French designers have managed to give the appearance of an essentially utilitarian car that very famous French charm and elegance. Elegant plastic side surfaces, a “three-story” front part (with three air intakes and optics located at three levels), taillights in the form of the letter “P” laid on its side, a huge windshield that goes onto the roof and front pillars flowing into ribs-rails on the roof - all this is combined into a very modern and memorable image.


But, frankly, for a minivan, the elegant exterior design is nothing more than a pleasant bonus, because they are bought for what lurks inside the cabin. And the interior of the Grand Picasso did not deceive my expectations!

And here's what's interesting: the clear rectangles of these two displays are quite harmoniously combined with the elegant curves of the overall architecture of the front panel. The panel itself is made of soft and very high-quality plastic of two types: dark - with a texture similar to stingray skin (Japanese samurai covered the handles of swords with such skin), and lighter - embossed into a diagonal mesh.


All seats - both the first and second rows - have only mechanical adjustments, but I found a comfortable position almost immediately. The upholstery of the seats is combined, and asymmetric: the “outer” rollers of the side and lower support, together with the upper part of the back and the front part of the pillow, are leather, the middle part of the pillows and backs is covered with a pretty motley furniture fabric, but the inner rollers and armrests are also fabric, but simply black, no pattern. It looks great and very French. True, if I were the designers, I would also cover the inner rollers with black leather. The external effect would be the same, but the fear that the black fabric would become greasy over time would disappear.


But for the management of the lumbar support, lateral support and massager - thank you very much! I think auto travelers will especially appreciate these options. Well, one more option from the arsenal of the highest automotive society is an exceptionally comfortable footrest-ottoman for the front passenger. In general, with all sorts of containers for storing small things in Picasso, everything is very good: in addition to boxing, there is a voluminous illuminated glove box, and another container is located at the bottom of the front panel, under the display of the information and navigation system. All work with the entertainment and navigation complex, as well as with numerous systems, is carried out through the menu on the lower touch display, and the number of levels in this menu is reduced by six touch keys on its sides. Sometimes this is convenient, and sometimes not so much. I’m still closer to the approach when the most important functions, for example, turning on electronic assistants and automatic parking mode, or climate control are displayed on separate keys (which no one bothers to duplicate with menu items), since working with the menu still distracts the driver’s attention from roads. Now for the merits:

1. A lot of smart and sophisticated electronics, it really helps on the road.

2. When using the 3rd row, the 2nd row must be moved forward to free up legroom for passengers.

I really liked the noise, nothing creaks, the quality of the plastic is simply excellent both visually and to the touch. There is no smell of plastic in the cabin, which, in my opinion, is also a plus, since my friend X Trail stinks for three years. The tachometer turns at 120 km / h - about 2,000.

Acceleration is very peppy, that from a place that is in motion. It is worth pressing the pedal a little harder, as the car immediately drops 2 or 3 gears and shoots, while the sound of the engine is heard in the cabin. On the track, the suspension works very comfortably, although there have been no frankly bad roads yet, but what happened was just without comment. While I can't tell if the suspension is softer or stiffer than my previous C-Max, it just works differently.

The Ford steers definitely better, even despite the higher mileage, probably due to the multi-link at the back. The headlights are probably better than those of the Ford, if only because the Ford has already worn glass.

The work of the climate is very pleasing, everything is quiet, evenly, nothing sweats. It’s comfortable to sit behind the wheel, you don’t have to get used to it after Ford, since the pedals are well positioned, but I would like the steering wheel to be a couple of centimeters closer in reach.

The screen from which you control the auto, climate and radio systems works quite adequately, without brakes. From the negative: periodically there is a cricket in the front left (not loud, but there is).
