Michelin- French company, one of the world leaders in the production of car tires. It has about 70 enterprises worldwide, as well as 5 research technology centers (in France, the USA and Japan) and 5 test sites (in France, the USA and Spain).
In addition to the main brand of the same name, the Michelin group of companies also owns other well-known brands, such as Kleber, Goodrich, Wolber, Riken, Tyremaster, Uniroyal, Taurus and others.
Website: www.michelin.ru

In Russia, Michelin also has its own tire manufacturing plant. It is located in the village of Davydovo, Orekhovo-Zuevsky district, Moscow region. The production capacity there is not the largest - about 2 million tires a year, but it is there that the only tire studding workshop in the company is located, in which all rubber produced by Michelin in Europe is studded.
In Russia, Michelin tires are sold either by our production, or by the company's European plants in Italy and Hungary.

“Michelin X-Ice North 3” is a new winter studded tire that incorporates a wide variety of innovative technologies developed by Michelin. Most of them are combined into one complex called “smart spike” (Smart Stud System) and includes:

  • Thermoactive rubber compound, which is used as an inner tread layer and which is able to change its elasticity depending on the ambient temperature: at high temperatures it becomes soft and the studs seem to be pressed into the tread, significantly improving grip on asphalt; at low temperatures, it becomes stiff, making the very fixation of the spikes more rigid and thereby increasing grip on icy surfaces.
  • The Ice Powder Remover technology is designed to remove ice chips and is a system of 6 wells that absorb this ice chips around each spike.
  • The design of the stud itself, which has the form of a cylinder with a cone-shaped tip, which is installed on a wide base, which ensures reliable fixation of the stud.

The tread pattern of the “Michelin X-Ice North 3” tires received an increased number of gripping edges to improve grip on snowy roads. The angle of the drainage channels has also been changed, which increased the resistance to hydroplaning and slashplanning. These tires use the new Flex-Ice 3 tread compound, which contains proportionate natural and synthetic rubber for improved grip on wet roads. In addition, it contains silicon additives that contribute to wear resistance.
To reinforce the carcass of the tires, IronFlex technology was used, which consists in the use of an additional layer of steel threads and provides additional impact resistance.

The car market offers a huge range of tires, it is very difficult to choose the best ones. Therefore, to simplify the choice of motorists, independent experts compile ratings of winter tires, they indicate the advantages and disadvantages of tires of various brands.

In the winter season, drivers have a question: “to stud or not to stud tires?”. Studded products are designed for harsh winters, ensure the normal stability of the car when driving on ice or deep snow. Studless tires are not only suitable for driving on icy or snowy roads, they can be used on dry or wet road surfaces. There is an alternative option - these are the so-called "Velcro", they have a large lamella of the tread blocks, this design, in the absence of spikes, ensures the stability of the car on snow or ice. Which of these tires is better depends on the preferences of the driver and the operating conditions of the vehicle.

When choosing tires for the winter on your own, use the ratings of winter tires, when they are compiled by independent experts, the following characteristics of tires of various brands are taken into account:

  • stopping distance of a car on a dry, snowy, slushy, ice-covered road;
  • maximum acceleration of the car;
  • fuel consumption;
  • rubber noise;
  • driving comfort.

Comparison of the advantages and disadvantages of rubber from different brands allows you to identify leaders in the manufacture of high-quality tires.

Conclusion

Winter tire ratings determine the top best manufacturers, allow you to choose the most suitable tire option for a specific car and its operating conditions. At the same time, it should be borne in mind that the winner does not always fit the characteristics of the operating conditions of the vehicle, and outsiders, in most cases, behave well when driving around the city.

Also take into account the tire sizes recommended by the vehicle manufacturer, and the matching of tires and wheels. As a rule, you can install larger diameter wheels and lower profile tires, for example, wheels with a radius of R14 can be replaced with R15 or R16, choosing the appropriate rubber.

For a good motorist, winter does not come unexpectedly. As a rule, experienced drivers do not wait for black ice to change their shoes. As they say, the road is a spoon for dinner, so your car should be fully equipped to meet the frosts. Of course, you want only the best winter tires on your car. And preferably at an affordable price. How to choose good inexpensive winter tires - this is what will be discussed in the material.

It is not necessary to spend money on expensive winter tires - you can always choose a quality budget option

Swap shoes for boots

First, let's define why? It is easy to understand this with a simple example. Do you yourself change shoes for boots with the advent of winter? Of course yes. Because it's warmer, more comfortable, safer. That is, just as there is no universal pair of sandals, so there is no universal rubber.

Don't suffocate...

Same principle with a car. Different rubber has different properties, which manifest themselves depending on the temperature regime. in the cold, they simply become dull, and as a result, at any moment the car can become completely uncontrollable.

Video on how to choose winter tires:

...and don't be shy

And in the manufacture of winter "shoes" manufacturers use a different chemical composition, which makes rubber resistant to low temperatures. At the same time, even at a light positive temperature, it loses strength and literally “deflates”. In addition, winter and summer tires differ in tread pattern.

Not two, but ... five!

When you are looking for good inexpensive winter tires, you may be offered to save money on the number of tires. For example, install new tires. But judge for yourself. If, for example, you are skidded or start to turn around on an icy “glass”, then in order to cope with such a situation, to resist centrifugal force, you need to use all four wheels. Do you still need to buy four tires? No. The correct answer is five, because your winter spare should be from the same "dough" as the working tires.

Top 10 best winter tires

And how to choose a decent tire model? Based on the opinions of experts and feedback from motorists, a rating of the "top 10 best winter tires" was compiled, which have been selling well for several seasons in a row. So, how were the sympathies of the drivers distributed?

Maxxis MA-STL - 10th place

This is a model. Its indisputable advantage is the price. For one tire of radius No. 13 in retail, they ask from 1,500 rubles. She behaves well in snowy weather, but, admittedly, she copes with large snowdrifts with difficulty. Maxxis MA-STL was only in tenth place due to a number of nuances. The tires are hard, “buzz” and duplicate the pits on the road. Also, this rubber does not differ in particular dynamism - it starts off, accelerates and slows down very mediocrely.

Toyo Snowprox S94I - 9th place

Inexpensive Japanese tires. Designed for middle class cars. They cope well with snow porridge and are not afraid of uncleared roads. The composition of rubber includes silicone, which does not allow the tire to tan. For one such wheel, they ask an average of 1600 rubles.

Kleber Kris alp HP - 8th place

Kleber is a subsidiary of the famous Michelin premium tire manufacturer. Kleber uses technologies and materials similar to Michelin to manufacture its products, but these tires will be much cheaper than VIP ones. For example, there is an inexpensive winter model without studs Kris alp HP. It was created for representative, but it costs - from 1700 rubles.

Hankook Winter I Cept W605- 7th place

The seventh in this race came Hankook. She presents tires Winter I Cept W605. The average cost is 1800–2000 rubles. In the manufacture of this rubber, materials containing silicon were used, which made it possible to achieve good grip, elasticity and traction.

Amtel Nordmaster ST - 6th place

Optimal combination of price and quality. A unique tread pattern, four rows of studs and a reinforced lip are the secret to excellent grip from the Amtel Nordmaster ST. On average, one tire will cost about 2000 rubles.

Cordiant Polar 2 - 5th place

Also Russian tires. This model features an unusual "curly" groove in the tread. Stability is increased due to additional lamellas. Four rows of anti-slip studs guarantee good grip. The average cost is 2000 rubles.

Bridgestone Blizzak Spike 01 - 4th place

When choosing good inexpensive winter tires, pay attention to the Bridgestone Blizzak Spike 01. These are solid Japanese tires with cross studs. "Crosses" give maximum grip during icy conditions. This model outperformed the popular Ice Cruiser, reducing the braking distance by 9% during tests. It is important that the Japanese developed this type of tire specifically for our roads, taking into account all the features and nuances. At the same time, it is interesting that back in 2013 Bridgestone Blizzak Spike 01 occupied the seventh step. The average cost of a tire is about 3000 rubles.

Continental ContiIce Contact - 3rd place

This is a German brand. A model for those who want to achieve excellent cross-country ability and easy handling in any weather. On such tires, neither rain nor snow is terrible. It goes smoothly: you may not even notice that you drove through an icy area. It was specially developed for operation in countries with severe winters. Moreover, this model is applicable for both SUVs and for. Cost - from 2000 rubles.

Nokian Nordman 4 - 2nd place

In second place is also the Russian tire. Nokian Nordman 4 - relatively inexpensive winter tires (average 3000 per wheel). Its “trick” is that each of the spikes is “supported” by a special pillow. This makes the tires more elastic and softer for the driver.

Nokian Hakkapeliitta 8 - 1st place

So, the leader of the tire race. In the first place are tires from Finland. The model is reinforced with additional spikes. The wheel itself has become lighter, and the clutch is just a sin to complain about. The blocks in the tread are closely intertwined with each other, the sipes have become more “grooved” and more than ever able to grip the snow. The average cost is 3000 rubles.

Security drawing

We have already mentioned the importance of tread pattern when choosing tires several times. So what does he change? By choosing the right pattern, you have automatically selected tires that will perform best on the road in your region, with all its features. After all, on different surfaces, the functions of rubber vary. For example, in snow it is important that the wheels do not slip and brake well, literally grow together with the road. In slush - the main thing is to avoid drifts. In dry weather, you need good grip.

Off-road tires

In order not to miscalculate and buy a good one, it is important to have an idea for what tasks the tires are “sharpened”. For example, there is "off-road winter". In such tires, the pattern is made in the form of separate patterns (up to 10 mm high), which are placed at a decent distance from each other and in most cases are made in the form of snowflakes and rhombuses. You can safely buy this rubber if you live in a snowy area or often ride in "porridge". Such tires do not care about snowdrifts.

Excellent cross-country ability, but on a dry road you will encounter the fact that it will "sound", and also, possibly, the braking efficiency will increase and be reduced.

Such a Eurowinter

Another model is the "European winter". These are tires that allow you to drive even in winter. The drawing here is made in low elements - no more than 7 mm. But “European” tires are suitable only for dry and very well-groomed roads ... Therefore, it is unlikely that such tires will soon be in demand on the domestic market.

Asymmetry on the tread

Another option is tires with an asymmetric tread pattern. The drawing is divided longitudinally into two components. One of them looks traditional and is responsible for the quality of the clutch. The other - as in the case of "off-road winter", allows you to confidently steer in the snow and slush.

This proposal in our market is relatively new and motorists are still skeptical about it. Like, such a “half-hearted” solution does not allow to fully implement any of the specified functions ... There is also an opinion that asymmetry is still a good option as a replacement for the classic version of tires. But for double functionality you will have to pay more.

Classic, sir

But what about the Winter Classic itself? These are traditional - 8 mm, medium gaps between elements, wide grooves. The best option for motorists who drive according to the principle: "You go quieter - you will continue." "Classic" assumes safe winter driving, without snow extreme and recklessness. And here is a surprise for those who need inexpensive winter tires. Such tires are cheaper than their "brothers" and at the same time much more durable.

Drive in winter

And finally: it really depends largely on the technical condition of your car, but not in everything. Even if you are driving on brand new tires, do not lose vigilance. In winter, it is unacceptable to adhere to the summer driving style. This is not the time for recklessness, so increase the distance to the nearest vehicle and reduce your speed by at least 20%.

“Prepare summer tires in winter, and winter tires in summer,” this simple rule regularly helps motorists save time, money and nerve cells. Therefore, it's time to take a look at our 2017 winter tire test and choose the tires that are ideal for both weather and temperature conditions, as well as lifestyle and driving style.

Winter tire tests 2017-2018 (Behind the wheel, Autoreview, ADAC, Auto Bild)

Winter and summer tire tests, which are carried out by a number of qualified organizations every year, will help you not to get lost in the abundance of names, brands and brands. This includes:

ADAC Club

ADAC is a serious organization and has been representing the interests of German car enthusiasts for more than a century. The largest car club in Europe checks car brands for quality and safety, and also regularly tests tires. It is difficult for tire manufacturers to achieve high ratings from ADAC - their harsh tests, carried out with true German thoroughness, can leave neither the bottom nor the tire from the tire. The usual results are “satisfactory”, and rarely is a tire awarded with a “good” verdict.

The oldest Russian magazine dedicated to motorists and their iron horses. He regularly tests tires that are popular and not so popular on the post-Soviet market in hot and cold weather, and also conducts interesting studies like "How temperature affects the braking distance of a car."

Car enthusiasts from more than 35 countries read licensed editions of the German magazine Auto Bild. The magazine features not only motorsport and industry news, but also comparative tests, test drives and, of course, tire testing in various interesting places - for example, in a small Finnish village above the Arctic Circle.

The popular Russian (and earlier Soviet) publication Autoreview regularly conducts comparative tests of cars at the test site, crash tests according to the European methodology with its own independent rating, and also tests automotive products, ranging from fuel to child car seats. Of course, tires are on the list too.

Rating of winter studded tires 2017-2018

Since fresh tire testing is carried out during the peak season, we took tests of tires R14, R15, R16, R17 carried out last winter as the basis for the rating. When distributing places in the list, the following were also taken into account: the popularity of the model in Russia, ratings, reviews and the cost of tires on the Yandex Market service.

Despite the differences in conditions, testing the best winter studded tires 2017-2018. carried out in a similar way:

  • acceleration and braking dynamics are tested on ice, snow, wet and dry asphalt;
  • the time of passing a certain distance on different types of coverage is taken into account;
  • an assessment is given of the level of controllability of the car, its smoothness and how noisy the tires are.

10. Gislaved Nord Frost 200

The average cost is 5,570 rubles.

The rating of winter studded tires 2017-2018 opens with a new model from the Swedish company Gislaved. The main highlight of the 200 model is an asymmetric tread pattern and a new ultra-light (less than 1 gram) stud in the shape of a three-beam star. In general, the rubber is quiet, soft, with good directional stability, keeps well on any surface - however, on fresh snow and ice, it may require adjustments in driving style. On a lightly icy track on such tires, you should not accelerate more than 100 km, otherwise the car will drive.

The price, on average, is 5,982 rubles.

The very name of the tire says that its developers (the Russian company Cordiant) paid special attention to the behavior of the tire on snow. The tread pattern is directional, the center of which is a closed rib, which in theory should significantly reduce the likelihood of hydroplaning in snow. (It is interesting, by the way, that this very pattern almost exactly copies the tread of the third place in the rating.) The result is a good rubber at a budget price that rides really well in the snow. True, asphalt is not given to her as well as snow.

The average price is 8,600 rubles.

A clear improvement over the ICE 01 both in terms of directional stability and noise reduction on the pavement. It is difficult to expect the responsiveness of more expensive tires from rubber in the middle price segment, but Dunlop SP Winter ICE 02 fulfills its cost by 100%. Advantages: high cross-country ability, very strong sidewall, excellent spikes, rowing in snow porridge. True, it does not feel very good on asphalt, and it makes a noticeable noise, and at speeds above 90 km / h it causes increased fuel consumption.

The cost, on average, is 6,670 rubles.

Good city tires with the ability to feel comfortable in not too deep snow. It rides well both on asphalt and on dense snow, the noise is within the normal range. It is worth noting that it is best to use this rubber in central Russia, where temperatures rarely exceed -15 degrees. But for Siberians with deep snows and prolonged frosts, it is better to think about a more hardy option.

The average cost is 2,410 rubles.

Nokian's Nordman series is a more budget-friendly version of the acclaimed Hakkapeliitta. Soft, comfortable, low-noise tires at a reasonable price, which feels good both on dry pavement and on snow. On wet pavement, based on reviews, it is better not to accelerate over 100 km. A good option for urban residents in the "home - work - dacha" mode. Due to the softness of the rubber, it is difficult to get out of the rut, and you should be careful with curbs, branches and other sharp objects. But overall a great option in terms of price / quality.

You can buy, on average, for 4,860 rubles.

If the previous top 10 model was mainly intended for city driving, then Continental's IceContact 2 is best off-road. It feels great at low temperatures both on snow and on crust or ice, it is able to take its owner from anywhere. A big advantage is the many spikes (there are 196 of them). No noise from these tires.

But on wet, frozen or snowy pavement, special care must be taken. Also, the “behavior” of rubber on snow porridge deserved not the best reviews, where it begins to scour.

It is offered, on average, for 10,260 rubles.

Although the 8 is a newer model in the Hakkapeliitta tire line, it is slightly less popular than its predecessor. One of the main reasons is the very soft sidewall, as a result of which you will have to carefully select the discs and, despite the excellent cross-country ability, carefully choose the places to ride. Otherwise, hernias and cuts. But this rubber is very predictable, has a large number of spikes (190 pieces) and goes well on ice and packed snow.

It is sold, on average, for 7,100 rubles.

It differs from the eighth model in a smaller number of spikes (by 30%), however, its six-sided anchor spikes are longer and heavier. They use a technology called "bear claw" that prevents the cleat from tilting, thereby improving traction. Silent, reliable, albeit expensive rubber, which, despite the generation, enjoys a high reputation among motorists. It feels good both on snow and on ice and asphalt, while being hardy and strong. However, like the eighth version, the Hakkapeliitta 7 has a very soft sidewall and this is felt when turning the steering wheel sharply.

The average price is 9,080 rubles.

And here is the new generation of the famous line. The fruit of the four-year efforts of the developers of the Finnish company, as stated, exceeds the characteristics of the "eight" by 5-10%. The biggest highlight of the new model is the two types of studs (although overall there are slightly fewer of them than its predecessor), which should improve lateral grip on snowy or icy roads. And changes in the composition of the rubber will help the tire feel better at low temperatures. So far, according to preliminary tests, the tires promise to be excellent, but they count the chickens in the fall - when mass sales of the "nine" begin.

1. Pirelli Ice Zero

On average, it costs 15,550 rubles.

Paradoxically, it turned out that the Italians know better about the production of winter studded tires than the inhabitants of snowy Scandinavia. One of the "highlights" of the model is the original double carbide stud insert, which provides the tire with excellent behavior on ice.

Other advantages: high cross-country ability, good acceleration and braking performance on snow and ice, high directional stability. And endurance - there are chances to bring the tires to retirement with a full set of spikes. Excellent, almost universal rubber for winter conditions, feeling good both on asphalt and in the countryside. True, the noise level is quite high. Yes, and the price "bites".

Which winter tires are better to choose in the end

So which winter tires are the best? The 2017 ranking includes both "urban" rubber types and tires designed for more severe weather conditions. For frequent off-road driving, Pirelli Ice Zero, Continental IceContact 2 or Dunlop SP Winter ICE 02 are perfect. For a quiet city ride, it is better to choose the Bridgestone Ice Cruiser 7000, Nokian Nordman 5 or Nokian Hakkapeliitta 8. Otherwise, when choosing rubber, you should first consider temperature conditions, and the surface on which you have to drive.

(function(w, d, n, s, t) ( w[n] = w[n] || ; w[n].push(function() ( Ya.Context.AdvManager.render(( blockId: "R-A -227463-10", renderTo: "yandex_rtb_R-A-227463-10", async: true )); )); t = d.getElementsByTagName("script"); s = d.createElement("script"); s .type = "text/javascript"; s.src = "//an.yandex.ru/system/context.js"; s.async = true; t.parentNode.insertBefore(s, t); ))(this , this.document, "yandexContextAsyncCallbacks");

The average daily temperature will soon approach 7°C. For motorists, this is a red mark, upon reaching which it is recommended to change tires. There is no reason for concern for owners with last year's air-conditioned set of tires. The rest will have to spend time viewing email ads, comparing prices, and reading tests. However, the search for a suitable product can be greatly accelerated by collecting information in one place.

Studless: which Velcro-type winter tires are better in 15 radius - types and leaders

It is desirable to decipher the dimension in a competent way. So, the inscription in the form of R15 does not mean at all that the model has an internal radial size of 15 units. According to the symbol R indicates that this is a radial type tire, and 15 is the inner diameter in inches.

Velcro types

It's no secret that a good winter tire R15 necessarily contains a snowflake on the sidewall, enclosed in a three-headed mountain. This is how Scandinavian type studless tires are marked. They are sharpened to securely hold the car on slippery and snowy surfaces due to a special rubber compound and a unique tread design.

You should not pay attention to products with only the inscription M + S. These are tires of the Central European type. The main scope of their operation is wet asphalt and slush. The tread has excellent resistance to hydroplaning and splashplanning.

What is better to take in the premium segment

According to the results of test procedures, the first places in the ratings are often occupied by products with a balanced composition of the rubber compound. These models are able to safely maneuver on packed snow and ice, as well as show acceptable qualities on any type of asphalt.

This product has the best price-quality ratio in the premium niche. At a cost of 3,600 rubles, the product has a considerable number of positive features:

  • Reliable deceleration on icy roads.
  • Transparent handling on ice.
  • Accurate adherence to the course on a snowy track.
  • Acceptable permeability.

The struggle for a smooth ride and high acoustic comfort has led to a deterioration in grip with asphalt: emergency maneuvers are not without drifts, but the reactions are accurate. On wet concrete, behavior is more stable.

Based on the conclusions of the tests, it is better to use Goodyear in settlements remote from megacities. Icy roads and snow-covered landscape - here the tires reveal their potential.

Are there good city winter tires within a 15 radius Velcro or what is the best tire in a cleaned metropolis - these two questions often concern adherents of automotive non-studded tires. Continental can be considered as a universal answer. German rubber products resist well the lateral loads that occur when moving both on ice and on snow. Excessive rigidity helps to intensively slow down in wet and dry areas.

Among the claims:

  • Poor cross-country ability on snow massif.
  • Lubricated feedback during sharp maneuvering in the snow.
  • Problems with directional stability on ice.
  • High noise.

The Italian of Russian origin confidently “butts” for the championship in the disciplines of acceleration and deceleration on snow cover. The tire is not inferior to the best samples of the class in the ability to overcome significant snow obstacles. Taxiing on the pavement is also not satisfactory.

Excessive rigidity is the cause of poor grip on icy areas. A set of tires is suitable for residents of large regional centers with unstable weather conditions.

Budget product: good car winter tires R15 with a low price tag

Detailed shows that inexpensive tires are suitable for experienced drivers. They don't have the fine balance that premium products can boast. However, the negative side is opposed by a tangible advantage - obsolete leaders under other brands with a proven tread structure and a new rubber compound are moving into the budget segment.

With acceptable rigidity, an impressive set of positive properties is provided:

  1. Powerful acceleration on slippery surfaces.
  2. Confident braking on ice.
  3. Clear handling on clean and icy pavement.

Excessive noise tops the list of disadvantages of a rubber product. Difficult behavior on snowy roads should also be attributed to the treasury of shortcomings. Reviews make additional comments on the patency.

We can confidently recommend this product as a good winter tire for a car with R15 wheels. A kind of Korean station wagon has average characteristics. There were no obvious failures according to the results of tests on various coatings. No priority list of roads has been identified either: the tire rolls acceptable on any surface.

Verdict

The market offers a fairly wide selection of tires in the 15th dimension. The price for solid models does not exceed 5,000 rubles. The accepted concept of a “good tire” should be understood as an ideal choice for the climatic conditions of the main region of operation of the machine.

  • Continental ContiVikingContact 6 (4,500 rubles).
  • Pirelli Ice Zero FR (4,000 rubles).
  • Nokian Nordman RS2 (3,000 rubles).

For a harsh winter with snowfalls and ice, Goodyear UltraGrip Ice 2 (3,600 rubles) and Hankook Winter i * cept IZ2 (3,000 rubles) can be recommended.
