Clutch adjustment vaz 21043. The key to comfortable driving is clutch adjustment

29.09.2019

Good day, dear motorists! Agree, it's nice when everything in the car works, when all the levers and pedals perform their functions. We simply forget about this or that pedal until we feel that pressing it is not the way it always is.

It is to this question, how to adjust the clutch pedal, that we will devote our time. It turns out that adjusting the clutch pedal does not require higher education and qualifications of a car mechanic. That is, you can completely handle this with your own hands.

When is Clutch Adjustment Needed?

Using the example of a clutch on the “classic”, we will try to understand the technology for adjusting the clutch drive. Why do you need clutch adjustment? The fact is that if the adjustment of the clutch drive is not carried out on time, then this can lead to repair or replacement of the clutch.

The large travel of the clutch pedal leads to the fact that the clutch is partially disengaged, and the clutch disc is still in contact with the engine flywheel.

Small pedal travel, does not turn on the fully driven disk, slippage occurs, i.e. torque loss.

How to correctly diagnose clutch operation

As always, we turn to people's experience. You will need a ruler. But, to measure the pedal travel, you will start when the behavior of the car tells you about it, at or when the movement starts.

When you try to start moving smoothly, jerks or bumps occur, noise when shifting into gear, or the clutch pedal sinks - these are signs that clutch adjustment is required.

In addition, you can independently conduct a diagnostic test of the clutch operation. For this you need a little. Start the engine, slowly release the clutch pedal and move off.

If the movement begins immediately, as you began to release the clutch pedal, then this indicates the absence of free play. If the car does not move even with the clutch pedal fully released, it means that the pedal travel is more than normal.

Using a ruler, measure the distance from the floor to the rubber lining on the pedals. The norm is 160 mm. if the distance is higher, then it is necessary to adjust the clutch actuator.

How to adjust the clutch

We will bring it into working condition by adjusting the clutch drive, or more precisely, the adjusting bolt. At the end of the cable (in the engine compartment), there is a bolt that is locked.

By turning the adjusting nut, it is necessary to adjust the clutch pedal travel so that it is 120 -130 mm. To increase the pedal stroke - we tighten the nut on the tip, to reduce the pedal stroke, unscrew the nut.

After adjustment, it is necessary to press the clutch pedal 3 times, and again measure the distance from the floor to the pedal platform. If necessary, continue adjusting the clutch until you reach the desired pedal travel distance.

The hydraulic clutch is adjusted as follows. The total length from the push rod to the release fork must be within 5 mm. Remove the spring from the bracket of the working cylinder and fork.

By unscrewing or tightening the adjusting nut on the cylinder rod so that the free play of the fork is 5 mm.

Important! We have given you examples of clutch adjustment on classic models. Not the fact that your car parameters can be the same. Therefore, when starting to adjust the clutch on your car, first read the manufacturer's maintenance and repair manual.

Good luck with your DIY clutch adjustment.

The clutch design itself on the VAZ-2114 (Samara-2) car has been changed and differs from what was installed on the "classic" models of the VAZ family. The main changes affected the adjustment system, control, travel on the clutch fork. And, if, earlier they were hydraulic, now its movement is driven by the clutch cable.

Video clutch adjustment on the VAZ-2114

In this article, we will take a closer look at how to tighten and adjust the clutch cable on the VAZ-2114.

Step-by-step procedure for tensioning the clutch cable on the VAZ-2114

In order to change the length of the clutch cable, we only need a wrench to work.

1. First of all, we open the hood and look for nuts on the gearbox housing located at the very end of the adjustment unit. Two bolts for 17.

The clutch cable is marked with a red marker.

Nuts are easy to unscrew with any pressure.

3. When the nut is screwed on, the clutch pedal will rise, increasing the length of its distance, and if it is unscrewed, the distance to the floor will be reduced, pressing the pedal closer to the floor.

The arrow marks the fixing nut.

There is no doubt that such work is much easier to carry out in the company of an assistant.

4. At the end of all adjustment work, the lock nut is tightened as close to the adjustment nut as possible.

During such procedures, make sure that the clutch cable itself is intact, that there are no damages and scratches on its body and sheath, and that it itself moves freely inside the elements supporting it. If something like this is found, then it is best to replace the cable with a new one, since the wear of the supported one will only increase, and it is impossible to talk about the reliability of the work performed.

Checking work

After you have completed these works, you need to check the correctness of the work carried out.

  1. First, measure the clutch pedal travel.
  2. With the engine off, depress the clutch pedal several times and return it to its place.
  3. Next, we make a new measurement and clarify the obtained readings.
  4. If they have not changed compared to the first measurements, then the work has been done, right, and the first stage of the verification can be considered completed.
  5. And if they differ from the first indicators, then the locking nut was not tightened tightly, and the adjustment process must be carried out again.

Among motorists there is one rule! A properly adjusted clutch should begin to engage about half way through the pedal travel.

The following test can finally tell about the serviceability and properly adjusted clutch:

  1. The car must be installed on a flat surface, the "handbrake" must be turned on, the engine must be running.
  2. Next, turn on the gear and try to start moving.
  3. If at this moment, when the clutch pedal is not clamped, the car stalled, then this means that the adjustment is correct.
  4. And if this does not happen, the car is running in gear with the clutch pedal not depressed, then this will indicate clutch slip, which will need to be adjusted.

Design

The drive, mechanical type on the VAZ-2114, despite the fact that it has the least simple design, is in no way inferior in reliability to the hydraulic counterpart. Its system consists of a length-adjustable cable, sealed in a special anti-corrosion sheath, and the clutch pedal itself, located in the passenger compartment of the car, which, by free running, is designed to transfer the force of pressing the clutch fork.

Despite the fact that such a scheme is simple, in general it is quite reliable.

Clutch diagram

The novelty, in the form of a clutch cable for VAZ-2114 cars, helped to avoid all the problems that all owners of the classics face. First of all, this refers to the leakage of hydraulic fluid from the system, and as a result, to loss of control over the car. It would also require work to remove air from the clutch system after repair.

At the same time, the periodic check and adjustment of the clutch pedal, as it was, remained.

Why do I need cable adjustment?

This procedure is necessary so that when the pedal, and with it the clutch cable, reaches certain values, the most squat pressing of the flywheel with the basket to the driven disk is performed at the moment when its operation is necessary. At the same time, thanks to the fine adjustment of this actuator, the clutch is released at the moment the clutch pedal is released.

Note! During operation of this system, when the lever is in the neutral position, or when it is turned on, no extraneous sounds and crackles should come from the gearbox housing.

You can control the state of the clutch, preventing the occurrence of such a situation, visually, by finding the clutch pedal relative to the floor of the car, using only a ruler.

Values

The optimal values should be between 125 to 140 mm, when measuring readings, first on the depressed, and then on the depressed pedal. The maximum value that is allowed when measuring such indicators is 160 mm, and if they exceed these values, then this will mean a strong wear of the friction linings, and therefore, after adjusting it, it may soon be necessary to replace the clutch itself.

We measure the result along the lower edge of the pedal - in the photo the result is normal.

The principle of work on adjusting the clutch

If, after a preliminary check, it was established by you that the clutch cable needs adjustment (i.e. tightening - approx.), then you should not be afraid, since the process of such work is not difficult and will not require any additional efforts.

Clutch cable tension is adjusted by tightening it under the hood

Such a process consists in simply changing the length of the cable and its sheath from the adjustment unit, due to which its performance can change both to the smallest and the largest side.

As you might guess, if the length of the cable is reduced, then the pedal travel will be less, the same goes for increasing the travel, it remains only to achieve those cherished pedal travel indicators in 12,5 centimeters.

conclusions

Thanks to such simple actions, the adjustment of the clutch cable on the VAZ-2114 can be done in the shortest possible time.

Timely adjustment of the clutch on a VAZ 2107 car will avoid wear on the release disk and other clutch parts. During the operation of the car, the clutch pedal stroke may change, which leads to increased wear of the release disc. In this article, we will tell you how to adjust the clutch on the VAZ 2107, which will help you avoid car breakdowns.

Clutch device on VAZ 2107

Before telling you about adjusting the clutch, let's talk about how this unit works on a VAZ 2107 car. This model uses a dry single-plate clutch, and directly under the pedal is the main drive from the clutch cylinder.
When you press the clutch pedal, the movement of the pusher begins, which enters the corresponding socket in the piston of the master cylinder. Under pressure, the hydraulic mixture is squeezed out of the cylinder, which is directed through the pipeline to the working cylinder. Accordingly, such a working cylinder is connected by means of a pusher to the clutch fork. Such a fork, when the clutch pedal is pressed, moves the release bearing along the sleeve, connects and disconnects the clutch discs, which allows us to shift gears.
The presence of numerous moving elements invariably leads to frequent breakdowns of the clutch on the VAZ -2107. At the same time, timely adjustment and inspection of the condition of the nodes will help to avoid serious breakdowns, which in turn will reduce the car owner's expenses for servicing his car. That is why the diagnostics of the clutch and its adjustment on the VAZ 2107 should not be neglected. Such work is not difficult, and when it is performed, you will not need to use any complex professional tools.

Determine the need for adjustment

The presence of even minimal play when pressing the clutch pedal is an indication for the appropriate repair. The car owner, with any changes in the sensations of the clutch pedal travel, must perform adjustments, which will avoid increased wear of the corresponding components. Also, such service work must be carried out if, when pressing the clutch pedal, the gearbox does not turn on the steps well and the power is not disconnected. Visually learn how to adjust the clutch on the VAZ 2107 will allow the video that you can find at the end of this article.
Indirect signs of clutch problems can be jerks when shifting gears, grinding and slipping. In this case, you should check the clutch play and carry out diagnostics of the hydraulic drive.

Tools Used

To carry out this work, you will need the following tools:

  • Scale bar.
  • WD solution.
  • Set of locksmith tools.
  • Keys for 10 and 13.

Step by step description of adjustment

Clutch adjustment can be performed from the passenger compartment, for which the gap between the master cylinder piston and the pusher should be adjusted. Such adjustment is not difficult and is performed in just a few minutes. At the same time, we note that it is possible to adjust the clutch from the passenger compartment with a minimum lift.

For more precise adjustment, work should still be carried out with the pusher of the working cylinder. Such a service is easiest to perform by driving the car into a viewing hole or overpass. The cylinder we need is connected by a pusher to the clutch and exits the gearbox. There is also a return spring, the main purpose of which is to return the fork to its original position when the clutch pedal is not pressed.
First of all, you need to check the free play of the fork. You will need to pull the fork away from the pusher, and then measure the free play. The standard free play is the range of 4-5 millimeters. In the event that the gap differs from this standard, it is necessary to adjust it. To do this, do the following:

It is necessary to remove the spring, which is responsible for bringing the clutch fork to its original position.

Loosen the locknut on the pusher.

Next, you will need a 10 wrench, which is used to hold the pusher in place and an additional thrust nut is screwed on top, which will allow you to achieve the required clearance.

We fix the screwed thrust nut with a lock nut. After that, we check the gap again, if it is in the range we need, we put the spring in place.

This completes all service work. You just need to make sure that the work is done correctly. For such a check, you should start the car, then turn on the gear and gently release the clutch pedal. In the event that the adjustment is made correctly, the car will start to move from a place approximately halfway from the full pedal travel. However, in each case, the adjustment of the pedal stroke is performed depending on the preferences of the car owner. Some people like the clutch to engage higher or lower. But at the same time, remember that such engagement of the clutch at the very bottom or at the very top of the pedal travel is unacceptable, since this leads to serious damage to the car.

Conclusion

Self-adjusting the clutch on a VAZ 2107 car is not particularly difficult. It is recommended that these works be carried out every 10,000 kilometers. With a slight play during the clutch pedal, adjustment can be carried out from the passenger compartment, when the clutch stroke is adjusted under the pedal using an adjusting washer. If the backlash exceeds a few millimeters, then the adjustment should be carried out under the bottom of the car, for which the car is driven onto a flyover. Such work is not difficult, therefore, with a little skill, it is quite possible to complete it in just 10 minutes. Thanks to its simplicity, every car owner can cope with such work, and we talked about how to adjust the clutch on the VAZ 2107 in this article. ! ! ! !

In this material, we will talk about adjusting the clutch on a VAZ 2110 car, determine the main situations for carrying out such work, and also talk about the sequence of work.

When to Adjust

You need to send the car to the garage and start adjusting the clutch system of your VAZ 2110 as soon as you notice signs of deviation from the normal operation of the unit.

The clutch greatly affects the operation of the entire car. What can we say, without it you will not be able to include a single transmission. Therefore, you won't be able to go anywhere.

The pedal may work too tight, or fall through at the slightest pressure. Both situations indicate that clutch adjustment is required.

In general, the work is carried out in two stages:

  • Clutch travel is checked;
  • The setup itself is carried out directly.

But the first thing you should start with is to study the most important tool for repairing all components, assemblies and mechanisms of the VAZ 2110. Of course, we are talking about the instruction manual. Open it on the clutch section, study the basic nuances, understand the essence of the assembly, its design, the principle of operation, and then familiarize yourself with the adjustment process.

Now we will talk about the two main stages of configuration.

Pedal travel

This is where the whole process starts. The factory manual states that normal travel is about 13 centimeters.

But over time, the parameter increases, as the lining of the driven disk wears out. This leads to the fact that the pedal rises a little. Measuring the indicator is not difficult.

  1. Open the door leading to the driver's seat in the cabin.
  2. Squat down to be near the pedals.
  3. Place a regular ruler into the mat under the pedal, placing it perpendicular to the clutch pedal.
  4. Measure the distance from the mat to the extreme point of the pedal, that is, the maximum distance.
  5. If the indicator is 16 centimeters or more, this indicates an urgent need for adjustment.

If the situation calls for it, we will do it. You don’t have to disassemble anything, because even a novice who does not have much experience in car repair can perform this process.

The setup process is as follows:

  1. Arm yourself first with a pair of simple keys for 13.
  2. Open the hood and find the clutch cable end in the engine compartment.
  3. It has a locknut on it.
  4. Using the first wrench, loosen the locknut a little, and turn the adjusting nut with the second.
  5. If you turn it closer to the tip, the total pedal travel will increase, and if you move it in the opposite direction, the travel will decrease.
  6. Tighten the nut and check how manipulations affect the clutch pedal inside the cabin.
  7. Having reached the desired mark of 13 centimeters, sharply press the clutch pedal about 5 times and release. If the distance is less or more than required, repeat the operation.
  8. After completing the adjustment, tighten the lock nut back, and therefore slide the rubber limiter sleeve until it stops.

In the clutch drive in the VAZ-classic with the original basket, the native clutch release and with the usual working cylinder, there must be a gap between the pusher (rod) of the working cylinder and the clutch fork. This clearance is required as the release bearing is not designed for continuous operation and constant rotation. With no clearance, the bearing will constantly rest against the petals of the basket, rotate, which over time will lead to the release of its lubricant and overheating. After a short time of such operation, the bearing will jam. If there is clearance, the bearing only works when we depress the clutch. When the clutch pedal is released, the bearing should stop. That is why it is important to know how to adjust the VAZ clutch.

Gap check

  1. Before checking the clearance, the return spring must be removed. If the clutch pedal is too tight, this spring can be completely removed. This spring serves to pull the clutch fork, which prevents the release bearing from coming into contact with the basket. But, of course, it is more correct for this spring to be in its place.
  2. Correct clutch adjustment is achieved by a gap of 4-5 millimeters. Of course, extreme accuracy is not required, the main thing is that the fork must be in a free position. For example, in order for the pedal to engage the clutch at the very bottom of the pedal when starting, this gap can be slightly increased. And, accordingly, on the contrary, in order for the pedal to work earlier, the gap must be reduced. But the pusher and fork must be in a free position, in no case tense, otherwise the release bearing will soon become unusable.

If the clutch is incorrectly adjusted (if the fork is constantly pulled by the pusher, and the release lever rests against the basket).

In this case, the first thing we check is the clutch adjustment, if this does not help, we change the Ferodo disk.

Adjustment

  1. In order to set the stem, it is necessary to unlock two nuts by 17 and 13.
  2. Holding the stem, tighten the nut - increase the gap, unscrew - reduce it.
  3. With one nut we adjust the gap, with the other we control the structure in the desired position.
  4. If necessary, return the spring to its place.
  5. We check the operation of the clutch when starting, and in motion.

The main task in this procedure is to maintain a free play, that is, a gap so that the release bearing does not burn out with constant rotation. Modern baskets already go without a gap, they have a different design, and it is simply not needed there, since it is replaced by a working self-feeding cylinder. But this option does not come from the factory and is not common.
