The most common and easy-to-solve malfunction is a lamp burnout. The product must be replaced with a new one by turning off the light sources, opening the trunk and disconnecting the wire column.
To do this, you will most likely have to remove the upholstery of the VAZ 2108 or 21099 trunk, which is located behind the lantern. First of all, it should be noted that ordinary spray paint will not work. This is due to the fact that the space inside heats up, and the paint simply slides off. Use only special paint for tuning taillights on a VAZ 21099 or 2109.
A special substance for tuning lamps must withstand high temperatures. The cost of one such bottle does not exceed 500 rubles.
Car headlight tinting paint
To keep the paint on the headlights for a long time, a preparatory stage should be carried out. The algorithm of actions is as follows:
- headlights are dismantled and disassembled;
- an additional turn signal reflector is removed;
- using fine sandpaper or a special substance, chrome is removed from the surface of the lantern;
- primer is applied.
Please note that the primer should dry for at least one hour. Apply the substance to the headlight VAZ 2109 or 21099 in 2-3 layers. Otherwise, the paint will simply peel off during operation.

If painting does not suit you, you can use tuning with a film.
Here it is necessary to note the main rule: the better the film, the better the result. Therefore, in this case, the economy is inappropriate.
You can apply the film on the lanterns both from the outside and from the inside. But if you plan to paste over the headlight from the front, you should understand that the film becomes unusable much faster.
Headlight tinting film The process of pasting the headlights
The algorithm is:
- headlights are carefully dismantled and disassembled;
- the reflector is removed using an abrasive material or a special liquid.
It is recommended to cover the glass with masking tape so as not to scratch it during work. To make the film easier to smooth along the edges, you can use a not too sharp spatula. It is a little more difficult to glue the film on the taillights. The wrapping process itself is the same.
Light tuning process:
Step one. Installation of LEDs and painting of lanterns
First, glue the LED strip on the outer part of the lantern. To do this, initially you need to mark the lamp and determine how the diodes will be located on it. Next, the LED strip must be fixed with epoxy. Otherwise, the tape will lag behind, as the diodes get quite hot during operation.
After that, you need to cut out squares from paper and stick them on each LED, this is necessary for protection so that the diode is not painted. Well, after that, the lantern is painted matte black directly on top of the LEDs. After the paint dries, the papers can be removed and the diodes will be open.
Step two. Installation of overlays on lanterns
To hide the LEDs, overlays are installed on top of the lantern, which the author pre-purchases in the store. A pair of such lanterns cost 400 rubles, black lanterns were chosen. Thanks to this, native lights are practically invisible even during the day, due to the fact that they are painted black. The pads are attached using black silicone sealant, this ensures good tightness and fixation.
Step three. Connecting diodes
To connect LED strips, you need to make holes for the wires in your own lamp. Further, the wires are simply soldered to the contacts to which standard light bulbs are connected. The brake light and clearance must be connected through diodes, diodes from rectifier bridges are suitable for this, since they are powerful enough for this purpose. Ordinary diodes can burn out. When you press the brake, not only the brake lights, but also the rear dimensions light up.

A very important detail of the VAZ 2109 lighting system is the hydraulic corrector of the directional light source, which consists of an accessory device (main cylinder), two functioning cylinders and connecting tubes. The tubes are filled with antifreeze liquid. If there is no hydraulic corrector in the machine, then a special plug is placed in its place. The hydrocorrector helps the driver adjust the lights: the direction of the beam of light that the lights produce is in the vertical direction.
Adjustment is quite simple from the driver's seat - you need to turn the knob on the instrument panel to one of four positions, depending on the load distribution in the car. Since the hydraulic corrector is a one-piece element, in the event of a breakdown, it is replaced completely along with the tubes and cylinders. Replacement occurs in the following sequence.
You need to install a new hydraulic corrector in the reverse order, given that you first need to start with the slave cylinders.
Wiring diagram of lighting devices and their operation
Sometimes lighting mechanisms do not withstand operating conditions, and certain problems arise in them. Often such problems are inoperative parking lights, no reverse light, brake lights that do not turn on, and a flashing turn signal light.
Fog lights on the VAZ 2109 can only be turned on if the low beam is on in the car. To do this, press the button on the instrument panel, after which the light in it will light up. Pressing the same button again will turn them off.
In order to switch the lighting mode, as well as turn on and off the flashing turn signals, you need to use the switch lever. It is located to the left of the steering wheel. Adjusting the lever is quite simple, as it moves along the vertical and horizontal axis.
Replacement of lamps and their glasses
The headlights on the Zhiguli are attached to the vehicle body with just four nuts. In order to get to this mounting system, you must first remove the lining inside the trunk. After this manipulation, you can get good access to the mounting of the rear light housing of the machine. In order to easily and simply replace these lights, you will need several devices:

Replacement is carried out quite often, since on the road at a high speed of the car, various objects and things (often stones) can get into the protective glass of the lighting device. The factory protection of the headlight is rather weak, so the glass cannot always withstand the impact, cracking or crumbling. Also, sometimes damage to the headlight glass occurs due to erroneous care for it by a motorist.
Replacement is done with just a few things:
- directly transparent headlight housing;
- glue-sealant intended for glass;
- solvent used to clean surfaces;
- auxiliary materials and tools (hammer, gloves, etc.).
In order to make the headlights more resistant to mechanical damage, headlight protection is used with impact-resistant plastic. This protection is installed very carefully with hermetic adhesive to prevent further fogging of the glass.

A wiring harness goes from the mounting block to the taillights. The purpose of each individual wire in the bundle can be understood by its color:

Naturally, you need to understand that if the car VAZ 2108, VAZ 2109, VAZ 21099 is old and many people were engaged in wiring, then the color correspondence of the wire to its purpose may be violated. That is, the red wire can be converted not to brake lights, but, for example, to dimensions. 4) The quality of the light bulb contact to the lamp board. It often happens that everything is whole and the light bulb and the mass are good, and 12 volts come to the light bulb, but it does not shine. The reason is poor contact between the light bulb and the board. In this case, it is necessary to clean both the base of the light bulb and the platform on the lantern with fine sandpaper. As one smart person said: “Electrics is the science of contacts.”
To disassemble the taillight VAZ 2108, VAZ 2109, VAZ 21099, first remove the protective plastic cover. Then disconnect the black wire of the lamp from the ground. Then we remove the connector from the lamp board and take out the board itself with the bulbs from the headlight housing.
