  • harvesting potatoes, onions, etc.

Operation and maintenance of the Neva MB-2

Engine oil change

At temperatures above 4 degrees Celsius, the use of thickened oils (for example, grade 10W30) will lead to increased consumption of this type of fuel, therefore, in the cold season, it is recommended to check the engine oil level more often, preventing it from dropping below normal.

An oil change is carried out after the walk-behind tractor has recently been in operation, while the engine has not yet completely cooled down. It should be warm, but not hot. The remaining oil is completely drained from the tank, after which new oil is added until the oil level reaches a special mark. The drain plug is then tightly screwed on and wiped dry.

The first start-up and running-in of the Neva MB-2 walk-behind tractor

The first start-up must be carried out adhering to the following scheme:

  • make sure that the walk-behind tractor is in a complete state (the height of the steering rod and handles must correspond to the height of the user);
  • you can start the engine only if the walk-behind tractor is located on a flat surface;
  • check the level of oil and fuel in the tank;
  • also check the threaded connections;
  • then you can start the engine by smoothly turning the ignition knob;
  • the idle time (without load and movement) should be about 10 minutes, then you can move from a place and operate the walk-behind tractor.

The break-in period is considered the first 20 hours of operation of the walk-behind tractor, after which it is necessary to change the oil. During this period, the most important:

  • do not work at full throttle;
  • work only on previously prepared soils (not virgin soil);
  • for cultivation, use only the number of cutters that are in the kit;
  • motoblock "Neva" MB-2 during the break-in period can be loaded only by ¾ of the power;
  • gear shifting in the gearbox can only be done when the rotation of the drive pulley has completely stopped;

after the first 20 hours of operation after the first start, the engine oil should be changed.

Main malfunctions

Adjustment and dimensions of the belt

For the Neva MB-2 walk-behind tractor, the A-1180 drive belt is used. This model uses a single belt for forward travel.

In other modifications of the Neva MB-2 model, two drive belts are used. The reverse gear is produced in the gearbox itself.

Replacing the belt for MB-2 walk-behind tractors is carried out in the following sequence:

  1. The shield is removed, and then the protective cover of the pulley.
  2. The spring is removed from the traction of the walk-behind tractor to loosen the belt.
  3. Bracket fixing screws turn.
  4. The bracket rotates to a position where the stop pins do not interfere with the removal of the part from the pulley.
  5. The pulleys are adjusted, and then a new belt is installed.
  6. Pull the belt onto the gear shaft pulley, and then onto the motor pulley.
  7. In reverse order, place the rest of the parts in their places.

Replacing the gearbox seals

Replacement of oil seals in the Neva MB-2 walk-behind tractor is carried out in case of detection of oil leakage.

Such a condition is dangerous because the motor block gearbox can be left without oil, and this will lead to rapid wear of the unit.

The sequence for replacing oil seals is as follows:

  1. Remove the cutters from the shaft, cleaning the shaft and covers from dirt and oil residues.
  2. Unscrew the cover bolts, tapping oil and debris from it, remove the cover from the gearbox.
  3. The old oil seal is replaced with a new one, wiped dry.
  4. The cover is returned to its place (if necessary, it is placed on the sealant) and fixed with bolts.

Adjustment and tuning of the Neva MB-2 carburetor

The functionality and durability of the motoblock engine depend on the stable operation of the carburetor. That is why its adjustment and tuning is so important. In addition, if the carburetor is set incorrectly, a gasoline walk-behind tractor may experience increased fuel consumption.

The carburetor of the Neva MB-2 walk-behind tractor is adjusted as follows:

  1. The screw of full throttle and idle throttle is unscrewed to the limit.
  2. Both screws are unscrewed by 1-1.5 turns.
  3. The next step is to start and warm up the engine.
  4. The throttle control lever is set to the position where the engine will operate at minimum speed.
  5. Set the minimum idle speed until the unit is stable.
  6. The idle speed is set to maximum.
  7. The minimum idle speed is being adjusted.
  8. Steps 6 and 7 are performed until the engine idles smoothly (smoother by ear).

For long-term and uninterrupted operation of the walk-behind tractor, it is necessary to regularly diagnose the operation of the engine, monitor the frequency of oil changes, and also observe the operating conditions and time intervals for scheduled maintenance.

Adjustment of valves

Adjusting the valves is a fairly simple procedure, which requires wrenches, screwdrivers and a feeler gauge. The process of adjusting the valves is needed to establish the optimal and technically correct gaps between the valves of the walk-behind tractor engine.
Valve adjustment on the example of the Neva MB-23 walk-behind tractor (the principle is the same for everyone)

The adjustment sequence is as follows:

  • remove the cover that covers the engine;
  • remove the valve cover;
  • make adjustments (see below);
  • reinstall the valve box cover;
  • put the cover in place.

The valves are located under the valve cover. The gap can be checked with a feeler gauge. The intake valve clearance is 0.15 mm, and the exhaust valve clearance is 0.2 mm. The feeler gauge should fit under the valve with the correct clearance.

To adjust the valve nuts are loosened, then a feeler gauge is inserted, after which the adjustment itself is made, and the valve nut is tightened.

The manufacturer focuses on the fact that in the Neva MB-2 walk-behind tractors, the gaps between the ends of the valves and the ends of the pushers (0.1 ÷ 0.2 mm) are provided by grinding the ends during the initial assembly of the engine and are not regulated during operation!

Checking and adjusting the clutch of the Neva MB-2 walk-behind tractor

The main function of the clutch is to connect the gearbox to the engine, turn it off, and also connect other working devices to the engine. If an overload occurs during operation, the clutch begins to slip - this is how other parts of the walk-behind tractor are protected from breakage.

Checking the operation of the clutch can be done according to the diagram below.

If the clutch lever is in the "off" position, the clutch cable is loose. Consequently, the idler pulley descends and comes into contact with the drive belt. After that, the drive belt and small roller move to the lowered position - this stops the power supply from the engine to the transmission.

When the clutch lever is in the “on” position, the clutch cable tightens the idler pulley, therefore the lower part of the belt is pressed tightly, the small pulley drives the large pulley and power is transferred.

Adjusting or adjusting the clutch of the Neva MB-2 walk-behind tractor is carried out as follows:

  • if the clutch lever is engaged, it will raise the tension roller, setting the walk-behind tractor in motion. The correct position is parallel V-belts on either side of the motor pulley.
  • if the clutch lever is loose, the idler pulley will lower and disengage the clutch. To avoid disengaging the clutch, and hence slipping of the walk-behind tractor, you need to monitor the position of the V-belts, bringing them to a parallel position.

Basic rules for setting the ignition

Checking and setting the ignition on the Neva MB-2 walk-behind tractor is carried out according to the following principle:

  • the candle is turned out, the electrodes are wiped dry, then carbon deposits are removed;
  • the gap between the electrodes is measured and set;
  • the candle body is fixed on the cylinder head;
  • the crankshaft scrolls up to 4 times (a starting cord is used for scrolling);
  • if the ignition is correct, a white-blue spark should be cut out. Its absence or yellow color indicates a malfunction.

The gap is increased, if necessary, with a feeler gauge. As an auxiliary tool in the absence of a probe, you can use a four-fold A4 sheet or a shaving blade. If the gap between the flywheel and the stator is normal, the ignition will work properly.

Faults with candles

First of all, check the performance of the candle.

To do this, unscrew the candle, wipe the electrodes and remove carbon deposits. Then follow the steps described above in the ignition adjustment. Candles are working - if there is a spark. If there is no spark, the spark plug will probably need to be replaced.

In the operating instructions for the Neva MB-2 walk-behind tractor, the manufacturer indicates the size of the gaps between the electrodes of the spark plugs and the recommended plug models:

  • candle A11R (made in Russia) - gap 0.5 ÷ 0.6 mm. Wrench dimensions 20.8 mm;
  • candle NR17С (BRISK) - gap 0.5÷0.6 mm. Wrench dimensions 20.8 mm;
  • spark plug WR8AC (BOSCH) - clearance 0.5÷0.6 mm. Turnkey dimensions 20.8 mm.

Before starting the operation of the walk-behind tractor, it is necessary to check whether the sealing washer is installed on the spark plug and whether the sealing washer from the previous spark plug has remained in the cylinder head hole.

Remove and install the spark plug only after the cylinder head has completely cooled down to ambient temperature. If more than 50% torque was exceeded during removal of the spark plug from the engine, further use of the spark plug is NOT ALLOWED.

Motoblock Neva MB-2 does not start, shoots, smokes - the main causes of problems and their elimination

In fact, the walk-behind tractor may not start for many reasons. Here are the main ones:

  • wires are oxidized (cleaning and / or replacement is necessary);
  • broken wire insulation (repair/replace the wire);
  • the carburetor or gas hose is clogged (cleaning, purging is necessary);
  • oil flooding has occurred (draining and replacement of oil is necessary);
  • there is no spark (replacing the candle will help);
  • uneven surface on which they are trying to start the walk-behind tractor (set it clearly horizontally so that fuel flows);
  • magneto failure (replacement will help).

If the walk-behind tractor smokes, the reason may be as follows:

One of the most common causes of smoke coming out of a walk-behind tractor can be low-quality fuel, such as bad gasoline. Also, smoke can go due to the strong angle of inclination of the walk-behind tractor. Another cause of smoke is oil getting on the valve; burning oil produces thick smoke that will not go away until it is completely burned through.

The walk-behind tractor makes shooting sounds, pops. Possible cause of these sounds:

  • low fuel level (add fuel to the gas tank);
  • debris under the needle valve (debris must be completely eliminated);
  • jet clogging (cleaning helps);
  • clogged air filter (purge helps);
  • misalignment of the float axis, low fuel level in the float chamber (adding fuel to the tank will help).

The experience of the owners of the operation of the Neva MB-2 walk-behind tractor - reviews from the forums

Every farmer's experience is unique. The advice of those who use the same walk-behind tractor as you do in their work on their land is especially valuable. Next - a few tips from the owners of the Neva MB-2 walk-behind tractor about maintenance and troubleshooting.

Vitaly, city of Penza, Russia:

“I bought a Neva mb2 walk-behind tractor and was very pleased. The unit worked fine at first, but a week after the start of operation, white smoke came out of the exhaust pipe. Tried to slow down the engine - did not help. Turns out there was water in the float chamber. I drained the gasoline, set it to settle, drained the chamber. After that, the motor block worked perfectly. If anyone had a similar problem, I advise you to use my experience!

Alexey, Rostov-on-Don, Russia:

“I ran into such a problem: in the first gear, my walk-behind tractor cultivated normally, but when I switched to the second one and worked with the soil, the engine speed did not drop. When I went deeper into the ground, the cutters stopped. Knowledgeable people suggested that it could be a towing belt. I adjusted the tensioner and shortened the chain on the clutch handle and the problem was solved! Now I work with pleasure, I have been using my Neva MB2 for two years already.”

Konstantin, Rivne, Ukraine:

“I am not new to working with a walk-behind tractor, I have been operating it for 4 years. Recently, if you give a load, the engine began to stall, well, as if it wasn’t pulling ... I barely drove it into the garage, and there were no pops or smoke. The cause of the malfunction was simple: the air filter was clogged. I had to replace it and now the car works like a beast.”

Despite the fact that the Neva walk-behind tractors are distinguished by their endurance, wear resistance and high quality, sometimes this technique still malfunctions in its work. This happens for various reasons, but still, if a problem has appeared, then you need to solve it.

We will devote this article to the problems of ignition in the Neva and their elimination. We will tell you how to get rid of problems yourself and what you need to do for this.
Fastest and most efficient ignition coil adjustment

  1. Take a piece of A4 sheet and fold it in four.
  2. Loosen the two screws securing the module.
  3. We put a piece of paper under the pillow.
  4. We press the pillow and hold until we tighten the mounting bolts.
  5. We clamp and tighten the bolts.
  6. We turn the flywheel.
  7. When turning the flywheel, see if there is a spark.

How to adjust the ignition on the MB1 and MB2 walk-behind tractors?

Perhaps the most common breakdown and cause of ignition failure is spark plug failure. Therefore, it is very important to always have a spare candle in your arsenal of parts.
If you have a DM-1 or DM-1D model engine installed, then select a candle from the following row: A-11-1, A-11-0, A-17V, SI-12RT. All of them have a thread of 12 mm, which is their feature. B8AC candles from the well-known BOSCH brand have proven themselves quite well.

How to check the performance of a candle?

  1. We turn out the candle.
  2. Wipe the electrodes well.
  3. If there is soot on the candles, it must be cleaned.
  4. We set the gap between the electrodes.
  5. We put a high-voltage wire square on the candle.
  6. We press the candle body to the cylinder head.v
  7. When doing the previous paragraph, you should pay attention that the electrodes look away from the hole for the candle.
  8. We scroll the crankshaft and see if a spark appears. If there is a powerful and bright spark, then the adjustment is done correctly.

An important role in the operation of the ignition is played by the gap between the starter and the magnetic shoe of the flywheel. It should be no more and no less than 0.1 - 0.15 mm. What to do if you need to adjust the gap:

  1. Remove the case from the fan.
  2. Loosen the stator mounting bolts.
  3. We insert the probe plate, set the gap and screw in the bolts.
  4. We check the clearance around the entire circumference of the flywheel.

Such simple instructions will help you resume the ignition and easily identify the cause of its malfunction with your own hands. If you are confident in your technical knowledge, then doing these steps will not be difficult. In order to avoid breakdowns of the walk-behind tractor in the future, its regular diagnostics should be carried out, which will allow you to immediately identify all kinds of problems and cut them in the first steps.

I will only say a few words about the marking of candles - see the picture. On it you can see the potassium number, as well as what letters and what they mean, although not all of it is there - there are others. The marking is shown in the pictures for domestic and foreign candles, which he himself used to buy a candle for his Neva mb 23 walk-behind tractor after unstable work.

Of course, it was possible to buy a candle recommended in the instructions for the walk-behind tractor, but what if there is no such candle in local stores, and you need to work with the walk-behind tractor now. You can temporarily use the left candle even from a chainsaw (I did it myself), although it is not recommended to put left candles that do not meet the parameters of the required candles. As a result, the store didn’t have such a candle as in the instructions - I’ll write from the memory of the parameters, looking at the picture above - I can be mistaken, but this is NGK BR6HS - that is, a candle with a thread diameter of 14mm, a resistor, a potassium number of 6, a short thread, a standard type . And there was no such candle in the store, so I asked to see those that are available and chose the next option - NGK BP6H. The main parameter that interested me was the potassium number 6. The candle is Japanese, which is also pleasing, with a protruding electrode, which is also good. And in fact, the difference from the previous candle is the presence of a resistor, that is, in this candle, judging by the parameters, it is not. I don't think it's that important.

A candle cost 200 rubles in 2017. I liked the look, and in the work has not failed yet.

If you suddenly need to replace the spark plug, then this section of the online store will be useful, because we offer the widest selection of different spark plugs for mopeds, scooters, motorcycles, ATVs, snowmobiles, spark plugs for walk-behind tractors, chainsaws, even for imported boat engines, and this far from the limit!

Replacing spark plugs

When checking a spark plug, never handle the spark plug wire with wet hands. Check that no gasoline has been spilled from the engine and that the spark plug is not contaminated with fuel. The cleanliness of the spark plug guarantees the normal operation of the engine and that there will be no carbon deposits around.

Unscrew the candle with a special key. Clean the spark plug with a brush. If the insulator is damaged, note the spark plug. Measure the spark plug gap with a feeler gauge. In order to avoid fire, you need to make sure that the hole where the candle is installed does not get sparks.

For engines of various models of motor vehicles, the most suitable in all technical parameters, these are NGK brand spark plugs.

Genuine NGK and FLC spark plugs

Nippon Gaishi Kaisya. Japanese Insulator Factory - this is how this abbreviation is deciphered. It is the world's leading spark plug company with factories and subsidiaries all over the world. You will be satisfied with the use of NGK products, because these plugs have a number of features, such as: high heat resistance and thermal conductivity, excellent insulating qualities, besides, NGK resistor spark plugs effectively suppress radio interference, both at low and high frequencies.

Also in the presence of FCL spark plugs are original and licensed from Japan.

But if you are the owner of a Chinese scooter with an engine capacity of 50 to 150 cc, then pay attention, for example, to SEE C7HNS spark plugs, they are perfect for your vehicle.

We are always happy to help you choose!
