The NefAZ 5299 bus was put into mass production in 2000. It is one of the most common types of special equipment used as municipal transport. The Neftekamsk Automobile Plant produces about 1000 copies of these buses annually. They go to bus fleets all over the country.

Technical characteristics of the city bus NefAZ 5299

Familiarization with the technical characteristics of NefAZ 5299 allows you to evaluate the advantages of buses of this series. The basis for the production of buses was the chassis of serial KamAZ trucks. Truck platforms, proven by time and numerous tests, allow buses to easily overcome any obstacles on the road. All elements of the chassis have a high margin of safety and show themselves well in operation. Control and management equipment comply with all international standards for buses of this class. The level of active and passive safety is also at a high level.

Engines for NefAZ 5299 are of several types. The KamAZ-820.61-260 motor has a maximum net power of 260 horsepower at a speed of 2200 rpm. The maximum torque in this case is 931 N * m. The eight-cylinder power unit uses a V-shaped installation of cylinders. The working volume is 11.76 liters. Liquefied gas is used as fuel. The engine is equipped with a turbocharger with pre-cooling of the air flow, electromagnetic metering and distributed injection with spark ignition. The motor complies with international environmental standards EURO-4. The bus is equipped with 8 cylinders with a capacity of 123 liters each. The gearbox is a four-speed automatic.

Cummins 6ISBe270B diesel engines have a net power of 270 horsepower at 2500 rpm. The maximum torque in this case is 970 N * m. The six-cylinder power unit has an in-line arrangement of cylinders. The working volume is 6.7 liters. The motor is equipped with a turbocharger with air pre-cooling. Conforms to requirements of ecological standards EURO-3. The fuel consumption of NefAZ 5299 with this type of engine is 24 liters per 100 kilometers. The fuel tank capacity is 250 liters.

NefAZ 5299 has the following overall dimensions: length - 11.76 meters, width - 2.5 meters, height - 3.036 meters, wheelbase - 5.84 meters. The curb weight of the bus is 10.24 tons, and the total weight is 18 tons. The distribution of the load along the axles: on the front - 6.5 tons, on the back - 11.5 tons. the minimum turning radius is 12 meters. The bus is equipped with hydraulic power steering and a loudspeaker so that the driver can make announcements to the passenger compartment. The driver's compartment is separated from the passenger compartment by a glass partition, which provides high sound insulation so that extraneous sounds do not distract the driver from driving.

The bus is equipped with steel wheels measuring 8.25x22.5 and tubeless radial-type tires measuring 275/70 R22.5. The brake system has two circuits and pneumatic action. To help the driver in emergency situations on the road, the ABS system, which is included in the basic package, is designed. The all-metal wagon-type body plays the role of a supporting structure. It is equipped with stiffening ribs that protect the bus from deformation. Passengers enter through three double doors, which open automatically from the driver's cab thanks to pneumatic mechanisms.

In total, there are 25 seats in the cabin, and the total capacity is 84 people. Ventilation is carried out naturally through the side windows and hatches. Heating is carried out using an autonomous gas heater. Heat is evenly distributed throughout the cabin, as the heating elements are located around the entire inner perimeter of the bus.

The plant produces several modifications based on the base model

NefAZ 5299-10 is a standard high-floor bus. The very first models produced by the Neftekamsk plant received such an index. Initially, the appearance of the buses was borrowed from the Belarusian MAZ 104. Later buses received their own original exterior design.

NefAZ 5299-11 is a suburban modification of the base model. It has only two doors for boarding passengers, and the number of seats has been increased to 45 units. In total, the bus can accommodate up to 77 people. More comfortable travel seats are installed on it, which are well suited for long journeys.

NefAZ 5299-17 is a long-distance modification. The bus is equipped with special compartments for luggage and has 43 seats. The cabin has comfortable seats with reclining backs and armrests. Also included in the basic package is air conditioning and a radio. The speakers of the audio system are directed into the cabin so that passengers can listen to music on the road, but at the same time it does not distract the driver from his duties.

NefAZ 5299-30 is a semi-low-floor modification of the basic model. It has an increased cabin capacity of up to 115 people, as well as special places for people with disabilities. The central door is equipped with a special ramp, which allows you to easily enter the salon in a wheelchair. Also in the middle part of the bus there is a special place for a wheelchair, which is equipped with a seat belt. It allows you to fasten the stroller so that it does not hang around the cabin while driving.

Maintenance and repair of NefAZ 5299 does not pose any particular difficulties. The use of components and assemblies tested on serial trucks has allowed us to accumulate a wealth of experience, so that a skilled mechanic will cope with any repair in the shortest possible time. A high degree of unification of parts with KamAZ trucks makes it easy to find any spare parts for NefAZ 5299 from official dealers of the Kama plant. With skillful driving and timely service, the buses will last more than one year until the first major overhaul.

The price of NefAZ 5299 for new models is about 5 million rubles. In the secondary market, you can buy equipment several times cheaper. But it should be borne in mind that the equipment that has been in use may require additional costs to bring it into proper form. Therefore, when choosing a model, you should conduct a thorough examination and diagnostics in order to buy a really worthwhile product.

We continue to acquaint you with the materials published in the KAMAZ corporate magazine. A note about the NEFAZ-5299-40-51 low-floor bus was published in No. 3 for 2015.

One of the notable exhibits of the St. Petersburg International Passenger Transport Innovation Forum, held in May, is definitely a bright green bus that arrived from Neftekamsk. NEFAZ-5299-40-51 is a completely low-floor bus with a methane engine, which promises market success in the future.

The novelty from the St. Petersburg forum is actually presented for the second time. The first sample of a low-floor gas bus based on NEFAZ-52994 was shown in St. Petersburg back in 2012. More recently, gas exotics were only interested in Gazprom branches for their own needs, and rare enterprises that have mastered the operation of vehicles running on methane. At that time, it managed to be ahead of its time in many respects, and gasification was not so relevant, and the development of transport using LNG faded into the background. Now everything has changed, and the state, as the largest buyer of large-class city buses, has set several new trends that have given new life to the methane theme.

There is a trend
In recent years, the “methane” topic has received a truly rapid development in Russia. On the one hand, the influence of the government played a role here, which in various ways motivates transport enterprises to switch to methane equipment, on the other hand, the development of the network of CNG stations that the gas monopoly is building in Russian cities. Caring for the environment in cities and much lower fuel prices - all this in total causes the interest of carriers in gas-powered buses.

In the Soviet years, attempts were made to introduce such machines: then entire enterprises and convoys were experimentally transferred to gas fuel. In those distant years, petroleum fuel was cheaper, and the environment was not treated so scrupulously, and therefore the main advantage of gas-engine technology was “theft resistance”. Even modern fuel control systems do not stop technical thought in the theft of state-owned diesel fuel, and that unscrupulous genius who is able to drain and sell methane from a gas bus to the side has not yet been born.

The main trend of transport engineering in recent decades, which is taking leaps and bounds around the planet, is the introduction of low-floor transport in cities. Over a decade of rapid development of such structures, Russian manufacturers have achieved some success in this: modern cars are already quite comparable with analogues of foreign manufacturers and look quite relevant against their background. More and more Russian cities are ordering low-floor cars in their tenders, and the process of gradually abandoning high-floor cars in large cities has gone in accordance with the global vector.

The low floor provides many significant advantages that are not yet appreciated by everyone: low floor is not only the ability to transport people with disabilities. Other low-mobility categories of citizens who from now on will not have to climb stairs to the passenger compartment will also thank for the low-floor bus that has come to the stop: passengers with children and prams, pensioners, people with heavy luggage. Another nice little thing used in low-floor vehicles is the kneeling system, when the bus rolls towards the stop, making it easier to enter and exit. In addition, the use of low-floor buses significantly reduces downtime at stops, which allows both to increase the average speed on the route and make life easier for passengers.

evolutionary path
Buses of the NEFAZ-52994 family have a 100% low floor level. The distance from the ground to the floor is only 340 mm in all doors, and the floor itself is even along the entire length. The engine and units are located in the "mine", which occupies the rear left corner of the cabin. This arrangement is one of the most convenient and is widely used on buses of both Russian and foreign production.

The bus body is based on the KAMAZ-52974 chassis, which is a further development of the mass-produced KAMAZ-5297 chassis, adapted for low-floor buses. The chassis itself is self-propelled, i.e. for production purposes it is able to move around the plant on its own. The chassis is made in Naberezhnye Chelny, and after that they are transported on a trailer to Neftekamsk to install a bus body on it.

NEFAZ-5299-40-51 is equipped with a Mercedes-Benz OM906 LAG / EEV / 1 gas engine that complies with the current Euro 5 environmental standard. The power unit is paired with a Voith D854.3E automatic transmission. One of the innovations of this year in the chassis is an independent front suspension completely "KAMAZ" production, which replaced the one based on more expensive imported components.

The gas-cylinder installation deserves special attention. Eight cylinders installed on the roof with a total volume of 984 liters are responsible for gas supply. At a pressure of 200 atmospheres, they are filled with 197 cubic meters of gas, and the power reserve for them, depending on the mode of movement, is up to 500 kilometers - this is more than enough for a whole day of work on urban lines.

Regarding the first sample of gas 52994, the cars of 2015 have stepped forward significantly. The body in 2014 experienced a significant upgrade: the 5299 family buses received an updated styling, including completely new front and rear masks. "All-Union" optics gave way to lens headlights, and monoblock lights replaced modern round lamps. In the new guise, NEFAZ looks much more modern, which will allow it to look more advantageous on the streets of megacities. The operator and driver will also be pleased with the new front mask for convenience: it consists of several segments, which means that small operations have become faster and more convenient, and repairs after small collisions will not burden the garage with the purchase of a mask or a whole bumper.

Another important innovation is a completely new interior. Buses from Neftekamsk were criticized in the past for excessive modesty inside, and the new interior, developed by the Chelny-based Kora LLC, looks stylish and modern. Layout with a focus on large flows and active turnover of passengers: a large store with two windows on the port side with space for wheelchairs and a small platform on the right, in front of the middle door.

Separate ceiling lighting fixtures have been replaced with two solid light lines running along the entire cabin. With all the external beauty, the main thing is inside: now the ceiling is assembled on profiles, and is not mounted on self-tapping screws. This allows, if necessary, to easily disassemble it partially or entirely. Simplified access to electrics and door mechanisms also plays in favor of convenience.

The handrails in the cabin are now fixed differently: instead of a tricky bolted connection that tends to loosen, they are now attached to the profiles of the ceiling frame, which eliminates extraneous sounds that occur as they wear out. Specially for gas-cylinder buses, NEFAZ also provided for strengthening the roof and fastenings of gas cylinders. This was done at the request of one of the customers, who decided to play it safe by operating buses on the broken streets of his city; the plant supported the idea and introduced it into the series on all buses under LPG.

It is impossible not to mention the history of the production of gas buses in Neftekamsk. In the past, when the volume of production of gas vehicles was small, finished bodies were transported on tractors to Naberezhnye Chelny, where all the necessary gas equipment was mounted on the bus. In 2015, when, with the advent of state subsidies, the volume of orders for such machines increased many times over, this scheme became inconvenient, and the LPG installation was set up at the plant itself under the control of Chelny specialists - representatives of the developer.

After leaving the factory shop, each bus passes a run-in of 150 kilometers with a load, from Neftekamsk to Yanaul. This allows you to identify all the shortcomings of the machine before handing it over to the customer and be sure that the product is completely ready for a long and safe operation.

State interest
In recent years, the purchase of buses adapted to transport wheelchair users has been generously subsidized from the federal budget under the Accessible Environment program. Many cities in Russia have already taken care of this issue, and have purchased the appropriate equipment with a tangible discount. Another form of state support, which concerns methane buses, is a plus for the gas NEFAZ: the federal budget actively subsidizes the purchase of gas buses, and Gazprom invests in the development of the CNG filling station network in the regions. Those who donate old, worn-out equipment under the recycling program also receive a discount at the expense of the budget: an amount much higher than the cost of a used bus or truck is cut out for new cars.

The buses produced by the plant in Neftekamsk, over the years of their development, have dispersed throughout the country, from St. Petersburg to Magadan. Both state-owned carriers and municipalities, as well as non-state operators, who have every ruble in their account, show interest in them. A number of private carriers in the regions - in Perm, Tatarstan and the Leningrad region - are already working with gas buses manufactured by NEFAZ.

Another important trend is the upcoming renewal of the rolling stock in the cities participating in the world football championship, which will take place in 2018. A number of cities have already announced large-scale purchases of new equipment, and they are also interested in environmentally friendly and economical methane buses: state subsidies allow you to take more cars for the same amount, and their operation is more efficient than in the case of diesel counterparts. All this in total shows that now the plant from Neftekamsk is keeping pace with the requirements of customers, and the car itself is worthy of becoming an ornament and a faithful worker of Russian cities.
