The editors of MariAvto conducted their own test of the second generation Renault Megane sedan to understand what feelings it evokes now.

The editors of MariAvto got the opportunity to test the second generation of the compact sedan Megan of the French brand Renault. This car began to be produced twenty years ago: a good reason to remember what cars were like at that time. It will be doubly interesting to test drive a Renault Megan. Firstly, it is interesting to drive a car, which at that time was popular because of its low price. Secondly, this version of Megane 2006, created by Renault in collaboration with Nissan. How does the car look now?

Many motorists still have fresh memories of how cars were made at that time.

Familiar features are already felt in the cabin, and nostalgia involuntarily covers - as if Megan had just left the assembly line and was presented to the curious public at a large-scale exhibition. Pleasant plastic of various types, modest finishes - all this seemed to have not been touched by time. This, of course, is the merit of the owner, who kindly provided the MariAvto team with this car for testing. Interior parts look like new, because they were covered with covers.

According to the tradition of that time, the interior design is extremely laconic, and combines elements of Japanese minimalism and French elegance. There is nothing here that hurts the eyes.

Especially, it concerns the driver's seat with many straight or smooth lines. It is organized conveniently and simply. The devices are located in places familiar to the motorist, with soft, contrary to the traditions of modern budget cars, backlighting. This is especially important during a long trip at night, on a poorly lit road. Unfortunately, the mirrors do not give a good enough view to the driver, since their design does not provide additional settings for fine adjustment. You have to get used to this, and over time, even parking in the most difficult place will seem like a trifle. A similar situation with control units. At first, Megan is unusual to manage because of the “tight” pedals and an overly soft gearbox. But it’s worth just driving it in dynamic mode once, and the claims are forgotten.

On a test drive of the 2nd generation Renault Megane, it was possible to reveal that, despite its small dimensions, this car turned out to be roomy. Four passengers were seated on the back seat. But still, I would like more legroom, and taller people will no longer feel so comfortable. The salon is visually lighter due to the dark floor, but still it is not always possible to see the buttons - there is not enough brightness of the backlight. Another disadvantage is that it is inconvenient for those sitting in the back to get out of Megan because of the high thresholds. Almost always, shoes and clothes will get dirty, as it is very difficult not to hurt them.

The luggage compartment of the Renault Megane is spacious. Spacious space with a flat floor with a volume of five hundred and twenty liters allows you to fit a lot of things. Moreover, owners of cars of this class cannot count on more: this volume is standard for budget cars. However, putting something large in the trunk of a French sedan will be problematic. Side racks are of particular difficulty.

The heart of the car is a 1.6-liter engine with a capacity of one hundred and fifteen horsepower.

Put on power figures below. Perhaps the years of operation affect. But in reality, the tested sample was only able to accelerate to 113 kilometers per hour. This upsets slightly, especially since the car is dynamic. But the lack of an automatic transmission can cause some inconvenience. But Renault Megan is positioned as a city car, and it is assumed that the driver will not require dynamic acceleration from him. Because this sedan from time to time in open areas there are small dips in power. But what can be considered a significant problem is the lack of maneuverability. It is difficult to make a sharp high-speed overtaking on it, and also to slow down sharply. What is this? Design features or consequences of time? But it is not possible to compare the drivability of a new and a used car. However, you can put up with this feature of Renault Megan. It is enough just to slightly change the driving style, adjusting to the features of the French sedan.

After a long video test drive of the 2nd generation Renault Megan, the Mari Auto team decided to find out what people who often use taxis think about this car. The car was tested in the suburbs, which turned out to be very convenient. Together with the photographer and Megan's owner, the team decided to stop at the nearest bus stop on the way back. The photographer had to travel by public transport, as his place was taken by the first passengers of an impromptu taxi - middle-aged spouses returning from their dacha. The first trip did not take much time, but the passengers had a lot of impressions.

The first thing that struck me was that they would not take money from them. The second is the age of the car. They liked the compact French car.

After disembarking the first passengers, the team parked Megan at the bus stop again, waiting for customers. During this time, the owner of the car admitted to the editors that he had been choosing between several proposals for a long time. In addition to Renault Megane, he was interested in Ford Focus. However, in the end I chose the "Frenchman". Megan attracted him with its simplicity and practicality. Over time, he, of course, will change this middle-aged car to something more modern.

But for now, this car suits him completely. Moreover, the owner admitted that for the entire period of operation he never regretted the purchase, despite the obvious disadvantages of this budget car.

The next passenger of the unusual taxi was the girl Svetlana, who was late for a meeting with her friend. She was surprised that people buy these cars for personal use.

She admitted that she always considered the Renauil Megane to be exclusively an inhabitant of taxi companies. And it turned out to be right. There is a taxi service that exclusively uses Renault cars. And Megan really occupies not the last place in taxi companies. This is due to its design features. Modest equipment, roomy interior, smooth ride - all this makes Megan an ideal car for private transportation. This opinion was expressed by a girl-passenger, with whom, however, the owner of the car did not agree.

A little bit of waiting, and a married couple again sits in Megan's salon, wishing to get to the city comfortably. It just so happened that at that time the buses began to run less often, so they got a makeshift taxi just in time. Having learned that this car was on a test drive, they admitted that they had been the owners of such a car for a long time, and had already changed two generations.

During this time, Renault has never been repaired, and the owners have not had any complaints about their work. The only thing I would like is to add dynamics to Megan. The gearbox does not allow the engine to work at full strength, due to this the car cannot accelerate fast enough. But the third generation of the people's car, in their opinion, has become too youthful. But still, the couple remains true to the Renault brand. They plan to change their Megan with a manual transmission and a capacity of one hundred and thirty-five horsepower to Logan, also on the mechanics. Another option is a new generation all-wheel drive Duster.

After a video test drive of the Renault Megan, the MariAvto editors formed their own opinion about this car. Despite the venerable age of the model, it is generally positive. Unfortunately, he is unlikely to cope with the function of a family car, but he will go to the role of a workhorse, like his fellow Logan. And after a while it remains a pleasant vehicle to use, which is great for traveling around the city.

Of course, Megan has disadvantages, which have been emphasized more than once in this review. This is, first of all, a gearbox that does not allow the car to move more dynamically. The feature is significant, if we take into account that the engine itself is low-power. To make the car more accessible, its interior was covered with low-quality materials, and this is easy to notice.

The most important pluses of this car are good behavior on the road within its class.

Cars like Megan must move confidently in city traffic. To do this, he has everything you need - compact dimensions, and a manual transmission that allows you to quickly pick up speed and then reset. She can quickly change lanes, but there is no question of excessively sharp maneuvers. This car is for a quiet ride. But even the speed available to the car hides the load. Driving fast on an open country road will not work, especially with a full trunk and four passages. But Megan is not designed for her. But these quiet rides are enjoyable thanks to the soft suspension and good noise isolation.

conclusions

As you can see, Renault Megane 2 is still relevant. During long use, the model did not acquire diseases that would significantly affect the driving process. This is a reliable car. There are no unnecessary components that could worsen the operating conditions. The result is a minimum of breakdowns. Also the car is perfect for daily driving around the city. And let it not strike you with outstanding speed characteristics, but it allows you to safely and comfortably get from point A to point B. And the low price that the French managed to achieve due to a modest configuration makes the Renault Megane 2 an excellent purchase. Megan is a "workhorse" for every day.

A few weeks after the high-profile show at an auto show in France, we were presented with a line of imposing "Megans", which Renault kindly provided us with for testing.

In the first place, only three-door, designated as a coupe, and five-door variations were released. Then the sedan, the Scenic and the N-th number of variations of the C class will become available for purchase. The first, by the way, will be manufactured in Turkey. The press releases about the new engines, the many systems that make driving more comfortable, were very informative and even full of new information.

But first of all, this release was dedicated to, the appearance of which was very unusual - Renault Megane (Renault Megane).

At the sight of a novelty, there is a desire without haste to examine it first from all sides, and not immediately sit in the driver's seat and rush off along the established path. He is so unusual. Unusualness is probably what is the new style of Renault and what the French automaker has already tested in stages on other models.

All these intricate transitions on the surface, non-standard angles at which the glasses are located, sharp dynamic features are not perceived unambiguously. Part looks solid, heavy, and the other - sharp, purposeful. This combination leaves no one indifferent, and Megan itself clearly stands out from the background of most competitors.

Having not decided whether I like the novelty or not, I decided to get behind the wheel. My journey will take place in Europe, the path will be quite long, and it will pass under the motto "Megan without borders!".

You have the floor, Mr. "Diesel"

To access the cabin, a key card is used, which is already starting to take root. But this version has become more perfect than the one used in Laguna. High-quality and tactile-pleasant materials, referred to as "Touch Design" - this is one of the new solutions that Reno is so proud of. Thanks to him, the use of a car becomes doubly pleasant.

The steering wheel fits into the hand like a glove, a relief knob KP, reminiscent of a joystick. The driver's seat has many fine adjustments, quite elastic. Everything about Megan is comfortable and reasonable. Unusual seat adjustment knobs, a brake caliper, a large sunroof, as well as a few more interesting chips a la Renault stand out. After a little getting used to, my companion and I together felt the sudden unity of our shoulders and the roof winding over our heads.

Inside, the car is very cramped, although it looks much more spacious on the outside, and Renault is not going to increase the space inside the cabin in the near future. Well, it's their business.

"Megans" have already begun to send in a row one after another. Now it's our turn.

Only a characteristic trembling and a slow response at high speeds betrays the fact that we have a top-end modification with 1.9 liters. with a diesel engine. The character of the engine is so smooth and even that it raises the question of whether it even needs a six-speed gearbox. Thanks to the joint work of Nissan and Renault, the lever moves almost perfectly: clearly and with the necessary effort, which is very correctly calculated.

Finally, we got to the track, where you can already accelerate to full. The speed has already increased to 180 km / h. Oddly enough, but, in spite of everything, "Megan" did not make more noise, there is not even shaking, which the suspension can easily cope with. And inside, as before, it is quiet and comfortable.

The operation of the Renault Megane engine causes mixed feelings. It seems that “elasticity” is enough for confident movement on the road, but it seems that the process of speeding up takes place without any emotions. While I was evaluating the engine, I almost got into an accident - the truck abruptly drove into the oncoming lane to overtake.

Only later did I realize that there were about 100 meters left before him, and my speed was twice that. And then - just a hit on the brakes and ... "Megan" once again reminds us of the presence of ABS - the chirping of "emergency lights" and rapid deceleration. Excellent brakes. Under the Renault warranty, the braking distance will be less than 38 m at a speed of 100 km / h.

Now it's the turn of the version with a gasoline engine with 136 horses.

Diesel imprint gasoline

A massive, large door, which has already become familiar to such a body, the B-pillar moved back, which complicates the search for a seat belt, the interior, which has acquired warmer shades - these are the differences between a coupe and a hatchback with 5 doors.

The main difference between them is not in the doors, but in the engine. There is nothing strange in the fact that most began the test with a coupe improved in terms of squeezed out speed. But this engine is not like that: not only did it become less polluting, but it also acquired the ability to change the gas distribution stages. And of course he said it on the temper of the engine. This will be discussed further.

Alas, several overclocking attempts have shown that the current engine no longer has the agility that it had before, which so amused pride. It is quite traction: it is possible to successfully use gears only in the range from 1500 to 5000 rpm. Does this remind you of anything? Of course, I remember the same diesel that we liked so much.

Unfortunately, the noise level has increased significantly compared to the diesel version, and there are notes of sportiness. When asked "why is this necessary with such a fairly smooth behavior of the engine?" we get the answer that we do not yet have the opportunity to evaluate the most powerful engine in the Megan II range. Like, now the calculation is on him. We can only wait.

From heaven to earth

We drove all the way. The discussion of "Megans" at short stops came to an end. Most of my colleagues agree that the level of convenience and user friendliness has become higher.

However, not everything about their complex electronic characters appealed to them. And then the organizers decided to present us with cheaper modifications. Not forgetting about the peculiarities of the Russian market, I chose the one with 115 hp. With. and 1.6 liters. in volume. No doubt he will become very popular with us.

First impressions - everything is absolutely the same as in previous models. Same Touch Design, same quality. True, the engine noise has become even higher. The accelerator responds the same slower - you have to drive lower. The distance that hinders mutual understanding has also disappeared. Despite the fact that this variation was deprived of power, left without a six-speed gearbox, it did not get worse. She became more accessible, so to speak.

Unlike the more expensive Megans, which focus on comfort in everything and everywhere, this one shows a quick temper, a frisky soundtrack, the emphasis is more on technology, and not on electronics. It is not particularly a problem that before turning you need to turn on the 3rd-2nd gear in time, but only in this version the electric power steering on the steering wheel works like perfectly adjusted hydraulics. Yes Yes Yes. Due to the weight distribution of the options, its highly personal.

Did I like Renault Megane? I have repeatedly returned to this issue, but I can not say anything specifically.

As soon as you get into the salon of Renault Megan 2, the test drive of which we conducted by no means without pleasure, you understand that the manufacturer's designers were primarily focused on convenience for riders. The chairs are wonderful in terms of comfort, the range of adjustment is very wide, this also applies to height, and the steering wheel is adjustable in every way. Ergonomically, the control of all units is located in an optimal way, there is no need to reach anywhere, everything is available.

Having started the engine at the beginning of the Renault Megane 2 test drive, the participants could hardly believe their ears, since the car practically isolated the cabin from noise from the very start. During the trip, the quality of our roads makes us forget not only the impeccable sound insulation, but also the energy-intensive, soft suspension. At the same time, the car starts cheerfully thanks to the 1.6-liter engine.

In the test vehicle, innovative airbags were used - with a two-stage filling system of the chambers with a gas composition - to increase the protection of passengers during particularly strong impacts. Also applied is a system for regulating the aggressive impact of the pillow on the passenger, depending on his weight. The lap and diagonal segments of the seat belt are equipped with separate pre-tensioners, which made it possible to increase the level of safety of the knees and upper legs of the driver. The level of impact of the shock wave on these areas of the legs was significantly reduced. The rear seat belts have three attachment points (similar to the belts on the front seats), this type of passenger restraint in a frontal collision is much more effective than the classic two-point.

Side kick

An indelible impression was made by the protection system for the driver and passengers in case of side impacts. It includes thorax side airbags and curtain airbags to protect the front and rear passengers of the vehicle. In the side impact study, the car did not lose any points.

Child safety
