Modern motor oil, in addition to the main task - lubricating the working surfaces of the engine in order to reduce friction and wear, performs a number of additional functions. As a rule, this is maintaining engine cleanliness by dissolving and removing wear products and incomplete combustion, protecting engine parts from corrosion, cooling the engine by redistributing excess heat, sealing gaps in the cylinder-piston group. The more complex the unit, the higher the requirements for oil. In addition, due to the design features of motors, a number of automakers impose special requirements on the oils used in them.

All this fully applies to the 16-valve VAZ engines used in the 2108, 2110, 1111 families. What is the peculiarity of these engines? The fact is that the oil in them, in addition to its direct functions, plays the role of a hydraulic fluid that activates the valve clearance hydraulic compensator mechanism. This assembly is particularly sensitive to the formation of sediments and deposits. If this happens, the normal operation of the compensators is disturbed, the phasing of the gas distribution mechanism is disrupted, which, in turn, leads to premature wear of the valves, a decrease in the efficiency of the motor, and in some cases, burnout of the valves and breakage of the rocker arms. Therefore, oils for such engines must have enhanced detergent (detergent) and dispersant properties. The latter means that the oil not only "washes out" the products of wear and incomplete combustion, but also keeps them in suspension until replacement, preventing the formation of deposits on working surfaces.

In addition, the "16-valve" is particularly sensitive to a decrease in the operating pressure of the oil pump, for example, due to foaming in the oil itself. In this case, the phasing of the gas distribution mechanism is also violated. Therefore, engine oil of this type must necessarily contain a good anti-foam additive.

Theoretically, oils that meet the SG / CD class (according to API) meet these requirements. In addition, AvtoVAZ has a list of approved products. In the TNK assortment, these requirements are met by TNK Super Oil (SAE 10W-40), manufactured using the original Soft Synt technology. Of those presented on the Ukrainian market, oils of other brands with a viscosity of 10W-40, 5W-40 (according to SAE), which correspond to classes SG / CD and SJ / CD or higher (according to API), also meet these requirements.

Hydrocracking

By its properties, this composition may resemble synthetics. However, such oils have a fast aging rate. Naturally, they lose their lubricating qualities over time.

Motor fluids for winter

Often, motorists are interested in what kind of oil to fill in the engine for the winter. It should be said right away that no one has been using such substances for a long time. Therefore, the term "winter oil" can be forgotten. If you usually pour a lubricant with a viscosity, for example, 5w-40, into the motor, then this is an all-weather type. Of course, the best solution is to trust the information from the manufacturer. After all, tests of various lubricating fluids with these motors were necessarily carried out. But on the other hand, the range of oils has greatly expanded and changed. Therefore, only solutions that other car owners use remain.

"VAZ" experiments

The gasoline engine on the "six" has gone through a lot in its time. Various experiments were carried out with him at the plant, one of which was to determine which oil to fill in the VAZ 2106 engine.

Interestingly, the engineers could not find something specific then. But we managed to find a group of fuels and lubricants that were suitable for the motor.

If we use the generally accepted classification of lubricants and viscosity, AvtoVAZ managed to distinguish two groups. These are "Standard" and "Super". For these motors on cars, the lubricants of the standard group perform well.

Of course, more than 10 years have passed since these experiments. More and more liquids appear on the markets. Many of the lubricants that were the main ones then exist today. And today they work fine on engines that were produced before October 2000.

The "Standard" group includes lubricants from various manufacturers. Among them are Lada-Standard 15w-40, 10w-40, 5w-30, Azmol Super 20w-40 or 15w-40, Yukos Tourism 20w-40, 10w-40, 5w-30 and many others manufacturers.

European lubricants

Modern practice shows that the owners of the "sixes" pour imported oils into the engines. There is nothing surprising in this. These products can be used in different qualities and for all seasons. These mixtures contain the best additives. Domestic producers are not able to compete with European ones.

With a key with a “10” head, we unscrew the four nuts securing the plastic shield. A small nuance, on the unit 21124, the plastic cover is attached with rubber bands, in which case the cover is simply pulled up.
