GAZ Lawn-Next is a family of medium-duty trucks that was born in 2014, replacing GAZ Valdai and replacing the previous Lawn - GAZ-3309. Cars have a wheel formula 4x2, their carrying capacity is 5 tons. The GAZon-NEXT line includes a flatbed vehicle, a farmer and a van.

The YaMZ-534 Euro-4 engine is a four-stroke in-line diesel engine with compression ignition, direct injection, liquid cooling, turbocharging and charge air cooling in an air-to-air heat exchanger. Each of the engine cylinders accounts for four valves.

Although the model range of the Yaroslavl Motor Engine already had a 4-cylinder YaMZ-204 engine, which was discontinued more than twenty years ago, this, as they say, was "a completely different story." Because that engine was one of the heavy diesel engines. And structurally, it was not even provided for its equipment with a turbocharging system. Therefore, the four-cylinder YaMZ-204 can be called the predecessor of the 534th, but only with a stretch.

After all, YaMZ-534 is an in-line medium diesel engine developed, as they say, “from scratch” by the design bureau of the Yaroslavl Motor Plant, together with the Austrian engineering bureau A.V.L.ListGmbh.

Distinctive features of "YaMZ-534" are compliance with modern environmental standards "Euro-4"; the presence of an electronic control unit (ECU) and the use of a modern direct injection system using the CommonRail common rail fuel system.

Achieving a high level of environmental standard was made possible largely due to the use of the EGR exhaust gas recirculation system. One of the advantages of this solution is the simplification, and hence the reduction in the cost of placing the engine on the car.

YaMZ-534 is a fundamentally new design, using the most relevant and advanced solutions, the rights to which belong to the GAZ Group (in recent years, the Yaroslavl Motor Plant has been part of this holding).

For the serial production of diesel engines of the 530th family, a completely new plant was built and launched as part of YaMZ - Avtodiesel OJSC. This new enterprise is located on the current outskirts of the city, as the locals say - "beyond the Volga", about a twenty-minute drive from the old plant.

This is the most modern production of diesel engines not only in Russia, but throughout Eastern Europe.

This modern industrial site has an almost 90% level of production automation, and all production equipment on it is from the world's leading manufacturers. In addition to new diesel engines of the 530th series, German engines for Mercedes Sprinter minibuses are also assembled here.

However, the new Yaroslavl four-cylinder diesel engines do not entirely consist of imported components and components, as it might seem. For example, CommonRail fuel equipment is Russian-made, from the Yaroslavl Diesel Equipment Plant.

The electronic control unit and, which is especially characteristic, the software for it, were developed by the St. Petersburg company ABIT, and the production of the ECU itself was mastered at the Starooskolsky plant of automotive and tractor electrical equipment.

The production of electronically controlled fuel injectors providing increased spray pressure and multi-phase injection (in three portions) has been established at the Altai Precision Products Plant in the city of Barnaul.

Currently, the price list of the Yaroslavl Motor Plant includes nine modifications of the YaMZ-534, in the power range from 136 to 190 horsepower. The YaMZ-534 / CNG gas engine, which has become the fruit of cooperation with the Canadian manufacturing company WestPort, stands out in a special order.

Overview of YaMZ-534 modifications and their scope

In terms of their capabilities, YaMZ-534 engines are very versatile. These motors effectively perform the functions of power units on a variety of vehicles weighing up to 12 tons, along with the load; or on road trains weighing up to 21 tons. It is allowed to use these engines on vehicles with a number of wheels from 4 to 6, with two or four driving wheels.

Initially, YaMZ-534 diesel engines, all their modifications and configurations were designed for installation on MAZ, Ural (new model), GAZ and GAZonNext (gas-fueled) trucks, as well as on buses of small and medium capacity brand "PAZ".

The key differences between the individual modifications are, first of all, in the settings of the ECU - an electronic fuel supply system optimized for specific tasks.

A more detailed overview of the specific application of modifications to these motors is as follows:

  • YaMZ-5340- basic modification used as a power unit for trucks, dump trucks, chassis, tractors with the wheel formula "4x2", "4x4", "6x2", "6x4", with a gross weight of up to 12 tons, road trains based on them up to 21 tons - Minsk Automobile Plant "MAZ". There are also three additional modifications: with preparation for the installation of an air conditioning compressor ("YaMZ-5340/01"), with a fan ("YaMZ-5340/02"), with a fan + preparation for the installation of an air conditioning compressor ("YaMZ-5340/03" ).
  • YaMZ-53402- designed for Ural-432065 trucks and other Ural vehicles, including off-road vehicles with a 4x4 wheel formula, with a gross weight of up to 13 tons, for road trains based on them up to 24 tons in weight. A separate special modification "YAMZ-53402-10" is used as part of the tracked snow and swamp vehicle "ZZGT".

  • YaMZ-5341- this engine is used as a power unit for the following vehicles of the MAZ brand: medium-duty vehicles, on the chassis of automobiles with the wheel formula "4x2" and a gross weight of up to 6 tons, for road trains based on them up to 10 tons, and for buses.
  • YaMZ-5341/10- this motor is used as a power unit for buses of the PAZ-320412 family, with a gross weight of up to 11 tons. There is also a special modification "YaMZ-5341/11", for the installation of an air conditioning compressor.
  • YaMZ-5342- used as a power unit for buses of the PAZ-320402, PAZ-4234, PAZ-3237 models, with a gross weight of up to 11 tons.
  • YaMZ-5344- modification for buses of the PAZ-32053 brand.
  • "YaMZ-5344-10"- a version of a diesel engine specifically for medium-duty trucks of the GAZ-3308 (Sadko) and GAZ-3309 family.
  • YaMZ-53442- a special modification designed for medium-duty off-road trucks of the GAZ-3308 family and their chassis.
  • YaMZ-534/CNG- the newest and "promising" modification, put into production only at the end of 2015. Runs on gas. At first, new versions of GAZ trucks will be equipped with it, and in the near future - the widest range of various vehicles for various purposes.

In addition, since May 2014, the plant launched mass production of a forced modification - YaMZ-53472-10, with a power of 215 horsepower at 2600 rpm, specially designed for the new army armored vehicles GAZ-233036 (aka SMP-2 Tiger).

Technical characteristics of the YaMZ-534 engine

All of these modifications of the new four-cylinder diesel engines are maximally unified among themselves and cover the power range from 136 to 215 horsepower. At the same time, the indicator of the minimum specific fuel consumption, according to the manufacturer, is 145 g / hp.h. And this number is a very good indicator by modern standards, corresponding to the most current fuel efficiency standards.

Thanks to the innovative common rail direct injection fuel system "CommonRail", equipped with an ECU - an electronic control unit, accurate fuel calibration parameters are achieved for a number of diverse operating modes. This allows you to simultaneously provide both a reduction in fuel consumption and an increase in the efficiency of the engine.

After all, the Yaroslavl Motor Plant has been the largest player in the industry for more than half a century and does not change itself. In the sense that its classic products - engines of the "", "" family have an impeccable reputation as extremely durable and reliable engines, a kind of "perpetual motion machines" among diesel engines.

YaMZ-534 motors are in high demand on the market: their production volumes amount to tens of thousands of units per year. At the same time, the first maintenance is scheduled after 15 thousand km (or 500 hours), the second and subsequent engine maintenance - after 30 thousand km (or 1000 hours)

Operating experience and feedback from the owners of YaMZ-534

The experience of owners of cars with YaMZ-534 engines, produced in 2011-2013 and already, so to speak, "sniffed gunpowder", i.e. proved to be in conditions of intensive use, suggests that the motor is good. More specifically: reliable; when necessary - high-torque, when necessary - frisky and resourceful; works quietly; and, which is especially important in our time, economical (about 15-17 liters).

Each buyer of this type of diesel equipment has two options: YaMZ-534 or Cummins made in China.

The Yaroslavl motor, judging by experience and reviews, is much better: more unpretentious, trouble-free, and, although not particularly cheap; still, at the price of spare parts and the engine itself, it will be preferable. And YaMZ-534 cannot boast of an inexpensive price, quite naturally: after all, a considerable part of the components and assemblies on it are from European manufacturers.

However, "cheers-patriotism" in the field of new technical developments in our modern era is inappropriate. And to use technologies and ready-made units from world industry leaders is, perhaps, the right decision. Since with their use it turns out, as they say, "a completely different song."

The cost of YaMZ-534 in the modern market

The price of the new YaMZ-534 engine, announced in the official price list of the Yaroslavl Motor Plant, depending on the modification, varies within 520-560 thousand rubles. The secondary market for used engines of this brand, due to the novelty of this development, has not yet developed.

The novelty stands out with an original and spacious cabin, as well as a comfortable lounge. The design of the cabin and interior is borrowed from GAZelle Next, along with a comfortable seat with five-speed adjustment and heating, an on-board computer, heated mirrors, central locking, power windows and ergonomic niches for various needs. Differences between the lawn cab and the Gazelle: the presence of a massive hood made of fiberglass and original lighting equipment, an aluminum body and a hood stopper. Most GAZ lorries were produced with an old metal body, so aluminum can significantly increase the demand for a car. The cabin is supplemented with a footrest to make it more convenient for the driver to enter the cabin. Separately, you can order a long-range "air" seat when buying a car. Although the Lawn is designed as a truck for transportation within a city or region, nothing will stop him from making trips over long distances.

The mass of the car is 8.7 tons, which ranks Lawn Next among medium-duty trucks. The carrying capacity of the machine is 5 tons. The volume of the wheelbase is 4.5 meters. Most of the new products will be with a foreign-made turbocharged Cummins ISF engine with a volume of 3.8 liters and a power of 152 horsepower. Both engines comply with Euro-4 standards. The maximum speed will be 100 km/h.

The brakes of this development are disc brakes. The air and fuel filters are placed behind the cab of the car. The steering column is tilt adjustable. When will it go on sale?

The leaders of the GAZ plant do not name the specific dates for the start of sales of Lawn Next. This event is expected to take place in the second half of 2014. The new car will have a standard and extended platform. Representatives of the Gorky Automobile Plant also promise to release all-wheel drive lawns and models with a double cab in the future.
