Fabia scout. Skoda Fabia Scout: country road scout

22.09.2019

For the first time, the Skoda Fabia was registered in the model range of the Czech manufacturer back in 1999. He replaced the outdated Felicia. During this time, he experienced a deep modernization (generation change) in 2007 and a facelift in 2010, but this was not enough. Trying to expand the range of its Czech division, the Volkswagen Group has long been offering pseudo-off-road versions of the Skoda Scout, this trend has not bypassed the youngest model in the line. This is how the Skoda Fabia Scout appeared. An example was taken from the Cross-versions of Volkswagen cars. However, in German cars, the off-road attachment hides not only changes in appearance, but also increased ground clearance, an all-wheel drive system, and other technical differences from civilian modifications. Skoda has taken it easy, and therefore the Fabia Scout package is more of an exterior tuning package than a serious attempt to modernize a small hatchback.

Skoda Fabia Scout with its appearance will attract those who do not need the volume and power of the Roomster, but believe that the appearance of the hatchback is too unimpressive and overly "urban". The Scout variant of the Skoda Fabia gives the small car a very emotional look with unpainted plastic bumpers, fenders and sills, a silver imitation oil pan guard, black roof rails and 16-inch alloy wheels. True, the same wheels, shod in low-profile road tires, give out the off-road character of this hatchback at all. However, the look of the Skoda Fabia Scout has become more brutal.

In the interior of the Skoda Fabia Scout, there are also a minimum of differences from the civilian version. There are more practical hard-wearing seat upholstery with Scout lettering, floor mats and sills have got logos, and the pedal assembly has stainless steel metal plates.

However, the interior of the Fabia was already distinguished by German practicality and ergonomics. Sports seats with pronounced lateral support. A leather-wrapped multifunctional three-spoke steering wheel and a center console with a Maxi Dot display provide the driver with maximum convenience, while a radio and Climatronic climate control system are provided for the comfort of passengers. Added to this is a cooled glove box, additional storage boxes for small items under the front seats and in the luggage compartment, as well as convenient backlight bulbs for rear passengers and hooks for securing cargo in the trunk. So, despite the fact that the interior is boring in German, everything you need is present, and the rest can be ordered for an additional fee. However, this entire package of options is also available to owners of the civilian version of Skoda Fabia, under the names Dynamic and Functional. The most interesting thing is that the interior is equipped with a transformation mechanism, the rear sofa folds, forming a flat loading area in the luggage compartment. For a hatchback with a small trunk and touring inclinations, this is no small matter.

If we talk about technical specifications, the range of Skoda Fabia Scout power units is quite extensive, four gasoline engines and three diesel units are available. However, the only, but the most powerful gasoline engine with a working volume of 1.2 liters will be available to the Russian consumer. It is certainly the most powerful for the Fabia, because its 105 horsepower accelerates this small hatchback to a speed of one hundred kilometers an hour in more than ten seconds. Although thanks to the turbine, the engine is very responsive to pressing the gas pedal. It is aggregated with a five-speed manual gearbox or a seven-speed DSG robotic gearbox with two clutches, which has a sport and manual modes. Moreover, the combination of this engine and DSG transmission is available only to owners of the Skoda Fabia Scout. The independent suspension is quite comfortable, the steering is equipped with an amplifier, and all wheels have disc brakes. At the same time, despite the appearance in the style of a crossover, the car remains not the most powerful urban front-wheel drive hatchback with low ground clearance (the same as that of a conventional hatchback - 149 mm), and therefore it is often not worth driving off an asphalt highway.

Now about the prices. In Russia, the 2014 Skoda Fabia Scout hatchback is available from official dealers as a separate package, which is positioned at a price slightly cheaper than the “charged” RS version. And they ask for 739,000 rubles for it with a five-speed manual gearbox. Well, for a price of 799,000 rubles, a Skoda Fabia Scout variant with a seven-band DSG “robot” is offered.

The off-road version of the Skoda Fabia Scout hatchback was first shown at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Compared with the standard version, this model has a more expressive appearance. The aesthetics of the body has improved due to the installation on the bumper, wheel arches, side surfaces of the body of wide overlays made of unpainted polymer. Plus, the automaker has increased the ride height and wheel size to 16 inches.

The interior is decorated in black and white shades, the chairs are covered with fabric. The composition of the initial options includes a mechanism for transforming the cabin, thanks to which the rear sofa is transformed into a flat loading area with a simple press of a button. A turbocharged gasoline engine is installed under the hood of the car, consuming only 5.3 liters of fuel in a combined driving cycle.

Exterior

The developers of Skoda gave the Fabia Scout hatchback dimensions of 4032x1658x1498 millimeters, the base is 2465 millimeters. Curb / gross weight - 1130/1558 kilograms, turning circle 10 meters. The pillars of the car are trimmed with black plastic lining. The hood, raised on high wedge-shaped edges, converges to a radiator grille filled with vertical blinds. At the top of the radiator there is a wide shiny strip with a company logo. The blocks of parking lights are given a leaf-like shape, the entire bumper is covered with an overlay made of unpainted plastic. It has a mesh-covered air intake bell and round fog lights. On the roof tilted at a slight angle, roof rails are located, large marker lights repeat the shape of the headlights, oriented in a vertical direction.

Interior

The interior of the Skoda hatchback model Fabia Scout visually looks harmonious; when decorating the interior, the automaker uses silver polymer inserts, fabric, velor, and gray plastic panels. Sound-absorbing liners are mounted in the door, front panel, so a low level of noise is generated inside the machine. Places have been formed in the door pockets where you can put bottles or glasses with drinks. The driver and front passenger seats are equipped with unobtrusive lateral support, adjustable headrests. The front of the central tunnel is trimmed with white plastic inserts, in this place is the transmission selector, a pair of cup holders. The surface of the console contains a large block with screens and controls for the functions of the on-board computer, air conditioning. Above the indicated elements, the car radio panel, air vents are arranged. The instrument panel is equipped with scales with blue illumination, between them there is a compact monochrome screen, which displays data on the fuel level, the operating parameters of on-board systems.

Specifications

The hatchback is powered by a 105-horsepower turbocharged gasoline engine. With this engine, the car spends 10.1 seconds to accelerate to a hundred, the average gasoline consumption is 5.3 liters. The transmission is represented by two device options - 5MKP and 7AKP.

Equipment

The hatchback steering is reinforced with a servo drive, its operation parameters are controlled and regulated by the on-board computer. Active safety equipment includes a standard set of devices - EBD, ESP. Inside the cabin, a regular car radio is installed, an air conditioner with three automatic modes of operation. The windows are equipped with an electric drive, the doors are blocked by a central lock with remote control.

In the initial version, the cost of the Skoda Fabia Scout hatchback is 739 thousand rubles. With all the additional options, the price rises to 799 thousand rubles.

It is impossible to ignore the disc brakes on all wheels, which can quickly stop the car. However, the brake pedal may seem too sensitive to someone - even a slight, at first glance, pressing at first provokes a peck, after a while, of course, you adapt, and in the future dosing the effort does not cause difficulties.

But it was possible to feel the work of ABS only on the sand. On the pavement, even very sharp braking only leads to a quick and smooth stop without blocking the wheels. The operation of the system is adequate: it intervenes only at the very last moment, allowing the driver to control the deceleration to the last, while the reactions to turning the steering wheel are preserved and the Fabia does not lose the ability to rebuild and, for example, happily pass an obstacle that has arisen on the way.

A relatively short base, a small turning radius and the compact size of the car partly compensate for the low ground clearance and allow you to successfully maneuver among especially insidious terrain bends.

Murom met us with sunny weather, crowds of people in tourist places and traffic jams on city streets. The effective climate control, single-zone, but at the same time working delicately, saved from the heat. It creates a predetermined temperature in the cabin and gently maintains it without periodic and unexpected turning on of the fan at full power. Even if you let a portion of hot air from the street into the cabin, the climate system will deal with it smoothly, without annoying the driver and passengers with unnecessary noise.

But, unfortunately, a miraculous remedy for traffic jams has not yet been invented, we had to “bump” on the narrow streets. Fabia Scout feels quite good in such a situation. You get used to the dimensions of a small car quickly, the mirrors that initially seemed small give a good overview, dead zones are minimal, the electro-hydraulic power steering makes the steering easy, and there are no difficulties with maneuvering in tight spaces. With a set speed, by the way, the steering wheel becomes heavier and a clear “feedback” appears, you literally feel everything that happens with the car with your hands.

But, of course, fuel consumption increases in the urban cycle. With us, he came close to 11 l / 100 km.

Boy scout friend of animals and nature

After jostling with everyone at traffic lights in the city center, we rolled to the outskirts, and then crossed the wide valley of the Oka on a large cable-stayed bridge to look for a place to park on the opposite bank of the river.

The exit from the asphalt in the right direction was soon found. The first concern is that the clearance of the Scout has not changed compared to the regular Fabia and is 150 mm. And the front overhang even increased due to a different bumper configuration. Completes the picture the lack of all-wheel drive. Involuntarily, you will wonder which of the Fabia is a “scout”? However, the first bumps in the hard dirt showed that it wasn't all bad. A relatively short base, a small turning radius and compact dimensions partly compensate for the low ground clearance and allow you to successfully maneuver among especially insidious terrain bends. The most important thing is not to get carried away with speed. The suspension is able to withstand significant loads, but it will shake mercilessly, and damaging the bumper is not so difficult.

Engine thrust is enough, and by switching to manual mode, you can successfully brake the engine on the descents. Of course, low-profile road tires fail on slippery surfaces, and it’s better not to drive into deep puddles - you should not have illusions about the off-road capabilities of a front-wheel drive car. But in good weather, a car is capable of delivering to a tent camp by the river, which it successfully demonstrated.

"Scout" has shown that it is capable of more than it might seem at first glance. Small in stature? But it runs fast and easy. And moderate appetite. Not very strong on rough terrain? But in urban disciplines he has an "A". And even if he is in the “tent camp” in the youngest group, he is already a real scout!

The first appearance of the Skoda Fabia Scout modification took place in 2009 at the International Geneva Motor Show. She was delayed on the assembly line: in 2014, the production of cars is still ongoing. The car interested many drivers around the world, because new technical characteristics and a slightly modified body promised ample opportunities within the already popular model. But what is really hidden behind the facade of a pretty car?

exterior design

Available in two body styles (combi station wagon and 5-door hatchback), the Skoda Fabia Scout looks nothing like their standard versions. The first sign of an SUV is a black plastic protection stretching along the perimeter of the body. It captures the doors and sills, favorably emphasizes the wheel arches. From above, the Skoda Fabia Scout got roof rails, and the fog optics acquired a round shape. All this gives the car a very impressive look. Under the front bumper, a thin strip of plastic painted like metal was added. The designers successfully coped with the task: the Skoda Fabia Scout looks aggressive and stylish, although the features of its original appearance are guessed.

Nevertheless, the car has changed less than it seems at first glance. After all, even the clearance, from which you logically expect an increase, remained unchanged - 159 millimeters. On the other hand, it is worth noting that such ground clearance is more than sufficient not only for conquering domestic routes, but also for light off-road trips.

Skoda Fabia Scout has remained a passenger city car, surprisingly practical and comfortable.

Interior design and equipment

The body of the Fabius Scout does not look large and massive, but the interior is surprisingly spacious. Its design is perfectly balanced in terms of functionality and comfort. The strict design of panels and other elements, classic for Skoda, creates a feeling of a certain conservatism, but you forget about it after five minutes: the ergonomics of the space are thought out perfectly, and all the driver’s attention is focused exclusively on the road. There are four cup holders in the front of the cabin, one in the back. The depth and width of the drawer are huge, and you can successfully put all the small things that are usually scattered throughout the cabin.

The basic equipment of the Skoda Fabia Scout 2013 includes a box-armrest with the possibility of its height adjustment.

A few words about the characteristics of the front seats - lateral support and wide adjustment options. You can sit down as you please, and people of any height and complexion will find a comfortable position for themselves. The active side bolsters, emphasizing the sporty character of the car, provide really high-quality and reliable support.

The rear sofa is spacious not only in width but also in length. If you push the front seats all the way back, there is more than enough legroom. The only thing that may be missing is the rear armrest: the rear passengers can only rest on the door panels on a long journey, and the person in the middle will have to make do with their own knees.

luggage compartment

As a rule, compact cars like the Skoda Fabia Scout have rather modest trunks. If you do not modify the seat folding mechanism, the Scout fits about three large travel bags. The organization of the internal space of the cargo compartment is done wisely: plastic organizers for small items move freely around the perimeter of the trunk, leaving enough space for the main cargo. Manufacturers have thought about protecting the base of the luggage compartment, because the paintwork of the body along the edge is reliably protected by a high-quality, solid plastic casing.

The luggage compartment of the Skoda Fabia Scout is unlikely to fit a large family, because ideally the car provides a convenient place for loading things for only two or three people.

Color spectrum

The possible coloring of the model varies from restrained colors to bright mixed shades.

under the hood

The standard Skoda Fabia is available to motorists in modifications with an automatic transmission. Scout is an exception here. Instead, the developers installed a modern robotic box. The behavior of the car has noticeably suffered: at the start of the Skoda Fabia Scout with a 7-speed robotic gearbox, it is too jerky and sharp. The 5-speed manual has slightly better behavior, and with it you can more fully control the car.

The requirements of European environmental standards are fully complied with.

As for the line of power units, it is represented by three gasoline engines, the volumes of which are 1.2, 1.4 and 1.6 liters, as well as one 1.6-liter gasoline engine. Only the Skoda Fabia Combi Scout offers more variety. The hatchback is only available with a 1.2-liter powertrain.

The ride quality of the car varies quite noticeably depending on the load. With one or two passengers and light, the Skoda Fabia Scout is a very dynamic and frisky model, but when the luggage compartment and passenger compartment are fully loaded, it starts to go much slower, sluggishly picks up speed, loses its grip on maneuvers. With any load, the Skoda Fabia Scout boasts excellent feedback on the steering wheel, moderately smooth chassis settings that allow you not to worry too much about slowing down on rough roads or off-road.
