Audi Q5 - a brutal and beautiful crossover is popular not only among men, but also among women. It has been produced for more than ten years by a well-known automaker, which is located in Ingolstadt. Assembly is carried out in other countries. For example, Russia, India and China. Speaking about the mid-size crossover, I would like to note the high quality of its assembly and materials.

The suspension is well tolerated by various types of surfaces: bad asphalt, off-road. This is a great option for not very high-quality Russian roads.

Excellent handling, excellent dynamism and many options make driving the Audi Q5 comfortable for both driver and passengers. Engineers paid special attention to the equally important moment - safety. It has everything you need for a reliable ride.
The crossover is equipped with several types of engines: petrol 2.0, 3.0 and 3.2 liters and diesel 2.0 and 3.0. An important condition for their operation is proper maintenance. Over time, the engine lubricant loses its properties. It needs to be replaced with a new one.

The service book states that it is better to do this every 15 thousand km. But those who love their car reduce the interval to 10 thousand. Which liquid is better to choose for these purposes is indicated in the table below.

Engine oils for Audi carsQ5

Concern VAG (Volkswagen Audi Group) took care of the systematization of engine oils for their cars. Since 2004, there has been a single engine oil for all models of Volkswagen, Audi, Skoda, Seat, Lamborgini, Bugatti. And the Audi Q5 is no exception. In 2004, when the EURO 4 environmental requirements appeared, special requirements for a single oil were developed to meet them, expressed in the VW 504 00507 00 approval. 504 00507 00 - Longlife III oils for gasoline engines and diesel engines with particulate filters, providing increased replacement intervals.

Insert: Oils with approval 504 00 507 00 are low ash oils ( low SAPS) and with reduced alkalinity, with viscosity SAE 5 W-30 and normal HTHS > 3.5 mPa/s (high temperature dynamic viscosity at 150°C).

Especially for these requirements, in the same 2004, Liqui Moly released Top Tec 4200 Longlife III oil. However, for Russian operating conditions, specifically for low-grade fuel, VAG has adjusted its recommendations. For diesel engines of the concern, equipped with particulate filters, everything remained as before, only the replacement intervals were reduced, but for gasoline engines there was an indulgence. Extended Longlife III intervals for a number of countries, including Russia, have been canceled, replacement periods in countries with problematic fuels are limited to a maximum of 15,000 km. In gasoline engines operated in countries with problematic fuels, full-ash oils, preferably of viscosity grade SAE 0W-30, with older tolerances of 502 00505 00, have been recommended.

Liqui Moly GmbH recommends the use of fully synthetic oil for Audi Q5 gasoline engines. This oil is excellent for turbocharged direct injection (TFSI) engines as well as conventional MPI injection systems. Synthoil Longtime 0W-30 excels in hot engines and heavy duty applications including city traffic and trailer towing.

For Audi Q5 turbocharged diesel engines with common rail injection and diesel particulate filter manufactured after June 2006, Moly GmbH recommends the use of HC-synthetic oil. This oil is focused on maximum engine protection against wear and durability of the diesel particulate filter. Also, Top Tec 4200 5W-30 is adapted for the use of engines converted to use gas fuel. The oil has a special package of additives, with a reduced content of sulfur, phosphorus, chlorine and a particularly stable base base.

The premium compact crossover Audi Q5 was first introduced in 2008. The car is built on the MLP platform, common to most modern models of the brand with a longitudinal engine. Most Q5s, with the exception of some of the most budget trim levels, have a quattro permanent all-wheel drive system. The model is equipped with turbocharged petrol and diesel engines, in-line four-cylinder 2.0 TFSI (180 - 225 hp) and 2.0 TDI (143 - 177 hp) or V6 3.0 TFSI configuration (272 - 354 hp) and 3.0 TDI (240 - 313 hp). Until 2012, a 3.2-liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine with a capacity of 270 hp was also used. In addition, there is a hybrid version of the car with a 2-liter TFSI petrol engine and an electric motor. Depending on the engine, the Audi Q5 is equipped with a 6-speed manual gearbox, 6- or 8-speed Tiptronic hydromechanical automatic transmissions, or a 7-speed S tronic dual-clutch robotic transmission.

Model cars are sold in most regions of the world, cars for the Russian market are produced at the Volkswagen Group plant in the Kaluga region. What kind of oil to fill in the Audi Q5 engine is indicated in the operating instructions - for most modifications, the manufacturer recommends oils that have VW 502.00 / 505.00 or 504.00 / 507.00 approvals.

TOTAL QUARTZ INEO LONG LIFE 5W30

TOTAL QUARTZ INEO LONG LIFE 5W30 engine oil was created specifically to meet the requirements of German automakers, therefore it meets the latest requirements of the VAG VW 504.00 / 507.00 concern, as well as the ACEA C3 standard of the European Automobile Manufacturers Association. It provides excellent engine protection against wear and deposits, even in difficult driving conditions such as city driving with frequent acceleration and braking or sports driving. The high fluidity of this oil guarantees a confident start of the engine in any weather. The special composition of TOTAL QUARTZ INEO LONG LIFE 5W30 with a low content of phosphorus, sulfur and sulphated ash (Low SAPS technology) optimizes the performance of modern exhaust aftertreatment systems, such as a soot filter, and allows this oil to be used in the Audi Q5 with Euro 5 diesel engines, requiring approval VW 504.00/507.00. Due to its high resistance to oxidation, TOTAL QUARTZ INEO LONG LIFE 5W30 meets the manufacturer's requirements for extended drain intervals.

TOTAL QUARTZ 9000 ENERGY 0W30

When changing the oil in the Audi Q5 with 2.0 TFSI, 3.0 TFSI and 3.2 FSI petrol engines, TOTAL recommends using TOTAL QUARTZ 9000 ENERGY 0W30 engine oil. It meets the VW 502.00/505.00 automaker standard required by these vehicles and provides a high level of engine wear protection in harsh operating conditions, including city driving, sport driving, off-road driving or cold starting. Excellent low-temperature fluidity of TOTAL QUARTZ 9000 ENERGY 0W30 oil guarantees starting the engine in frosty weather, and oxidation resistance ensures stability of performance throughout the entire interval between replacements.

TOTAL QUARTZ 9000 5W40

As an engine oil for the Audi Q5 of those modifications that require VW 502.00 / 505.00 and ACEA A3 / B4 standards, TOTAL QUARTZ 9000 5W40 oil produced using synthetic technology is suitable. It effectively prevents premature engine wear under any driving conditions and temperature conditions and, thanks to special detergent and dispersant additives, prevents the formation of deposits on its parts. The high antioxidant properties of this oil ensure the stability of its performance even after significant runs.

Gear oils for Audi Q5

Thanks to the right friction characteristics, TOTAL FLUIDMATIC MV LV transmission fluid ensures smooth operation of the automatic transmission and protects its parts from premature wear and corrosion. TOTAL recommends using this transmission oil in Audi Q5 automatic transmissions with hydromechanical 6- or 8-speed automatic transmissions.

TOTAL FLUIDMATIC MV LV

For vehicles with a 7-speed S-tronic robotic transmission, TOTAL FLUIDMATIC DCT MV oil is recommended. It has been specially developed for this type of transmission and complies with the VW specification TL 052529 required for the DL501 transmission used in the Audi Q5. This oil guarantees efficient operation of the gearbox for a long time even under maximum load conditions. It has exceptional shear stability, excellent frictional properties and excellent compatibility with all types of seals.

Like any other Audi car, the Q5 is technically a fairly reliable car. This vehicle has a good reliable configuration of the power unit and gearbox. But, as with any machine, for a long and trouble-free operation, you need to take care of it in time.

In the Audi Q5 maintenance schedule, the manufacturer indicated the recommended one along with the oil filter, as well as with the cabin filter every 15,000 kilometers. But this figure can remain so for drivers who constantly drive in a calm mode and do not put the engine under unnecessary stress.

If you like to sometimes hold the accelerator pedal on the floor or often carry quite large and, accordingly, heavy loads by car, then you should not torment the heart of your car with used grease. You should change the oil every 10,000 - 12,000 kilometers so that its deficiency or does not affect the operation of the car in the future.

Oil capacity for Audi Q5 engines

Since several different gasoline and diesel power units are installed on this car model, namely for you there is a choice of 4 engines, we will consider how many liters of lubricant each of them requires for its normal operation.

So, first let's go through the gasoline power units. Two engines were presented in the gasoline version - a four-cylinder 2.0 TFSI, which, according to the Audi Ku5 operating instructions, needs 4.6 liters of lubricant, and a six-cylinder 3.2 FSI that requires 6.2 liters.

Also available in two versions, again the four-cylinder 2.0 TDI, which requires 5 liters of oil, and the six-cylinder 3.0 TDI, which needs 6.9 liters of lubricant.

Choosing the Right Lubricant

Gradually, we approached an equally important issue, this is the choice of the product with which we will fill the filling volume of our power unit. Many Audi owners start to roam different forums, but there is no point in this. You just need to open the technical inspection regulations, it has everything you need.

After analyzing this interesting book, we can see that the manufacturer has clearly indicated which fluid is well suited for changing engine oil, namely: the original VAG 5W-30 LongLife III oil or the analogue AV-L 5W-30 LongLife III.

There is no need to come up with something of your own and be in search of the right lubricant for a long time, since the manufacturer indicates the product that will fully preserve the resource of all engine components and help it serve for a long time.

How to change the oil in the Audi Q5 do it yourself

First of all, disconnect the battery so that there are no errors on the speedometer screen later. When you are already at the bottom of the car, the first thing to do is to find the drain plug on the pan. Do not rush to unscrew the bolt on the drain hole, carefully inspect the space near the drain bolt for oil leaks. If there are no leaks, then you can safely open the drain plug, but if traces of drips are visible, you can unscrew it, but you will need to immediately change the gasket on the drain bolt. It is advisable to drain on a warm engine, since warm oil is not the same as cold oil, and will run away much faster.

We are waiting for the complete devastation of the engine from mining and we are changing the filter.

After you are sure that the motor is empty, you can fill in fresh grease, and after completing this procedure, let your car idle for a while.

As a result, we see that this procedure does not cause any particular difficulties, and in principle, you can do everything yourself, if you wish.

The Audi Q5 is a German-made crossover with compact overall dimensions.

The debut of the first generation came in 2008. Then the model was presented in Beijing. The basis for this crossover is the MLP modular platform, which is also used in the well-known Audi A4 and Audi A5 models.

Initially, the Audi Q5 crossover was equipped with one petrol and two diesel engines. The petrol version uses a 2.0 liter engine. This engine is equipped with a turbocharging system and direct fuel injection. All this gives it a maximum power of 211 horsepower. Diesel versions have a 2.0-liter engine with a maximum output of 170 horsepower, which is also turbocharged, and a V-shaped six-cylinder engine with a displacement of 3.0 liters and a maximum output of 240 horsepower.

In 2009, the range of proposed power plants was expanded. It appeared: a two-liter turbodiesel engine with a maximum power of 143 horsepower and a two-liter turbocharged gasoline engine capable of developing a nominal power of 180 horsepower. However, these are not all engines used, as other options have also been used:

  • 2.0 liter gasoline hybrid engine with a maximum output of 245 horsepower;
  • 2.0 liter turbocharged petrol engine with a maximum power of 180 horsepower;
  • 3.0 liter V-shaped six-cylinder engine with a maximum power of 272 horsepower;
  • 3.2 liter V-shaped six-cylinder engine with a maximum output of 270 horsepower.

For these engines, the manufacturer has provided its new development, which is a seven-speed S-tronic robotic gearbox. In 2011, an alternative option appeared, which was an eight-speed tiptronic automatic transmission. The first generation has permanent all-wheel drive as standard. This is provided by the proprietary quattro system and the Torsen differential, which together allow the distribution of torque between the front and rear wheels in a ratio of 40:60, which is also characteristic of other Audi crossovers.

The second generation was presented to the general public in 2017. In addition to changing the design and interior, the manufacturer also changed the technical equipment of the model. All engines used were borrowed from the Audi A4 B9. Gasoline versions have under the hood either a two-liter engine with a maximum output of 252 horsepower, or one of several three-liter engines. Diesel versions can be equipped with one of four engines, including:

  • 2.0 liter turbocharged engine with a maximum power of 150 horsepower;
  • 2.0 liter turbocharged engine with a maximum power of 163 horsepower;
  • 2.0 liter turbocharged engine with a maximum power of 190 horsepower;
  • 3.0 liter turbocharged V6 engine with a maximum output of 286 horsepower.

All presented engines, both petrol and diesel, are paired with a six-speed manual transmission or a seven-speed robotic S-tronic. For the three-liter unit, only an eight-speed automatic transmission was offered. In this generation, front-wheel drive versions became the standard solution. This option came out more economical than models with all-wheel drive. The latter still remained available, but already as an additional option. The option itself includes the new Quattro Ultra system, which means not a permanent all-wheel drive, but a plug-in one. This also had a positive effect on the economy with the same cross-country ability.
