Concern VAG (Volkswagen Audi Group) took care of the systematization of engine oils for their cars. Since 2004, there has been a single engine oil for all models of Volkswagen, Audi, Skoda, Seat, Lamborgini, Bugatti. And the Audi Q5 is no exception. In 2004, when the EURO 4 environmental requirements appeared, special requirements for a single oil were developed to meet them, expressed in the VW 504 00507 00 approval. 504 00507 00 - Longlife III oils for gasoline engines and diesel engines with particulate filters, providing increased replacement intervals.
Insert: Oils with approval 504 00 507 00 are low ash oils ( low SAPS) and with reduced alkalinity, with viscosity SAE 5 W-30 and normal HTHS > 3.5 mPa/s (high temperature dynamic viscosity at 150°C).

Liqui Moly GmbH recommends the use of fully synthetic oil for Audi Q5 gasoline engines. This oil is excellent for turbocharged direct injection (TFSI) engines as well as conventional MPI injection systems. Synthoil Longtime 0W-30 excels in hot engines and heavy duty applications including city traffic and trailer towing.
For Audi Q5 turbocharged diesel engines with common rail injection and diesel particulate filter manufactured after June 2006, Moly GmbH recommends the use of HC-synthetic oil. Initially, the Audi Q5 crossover was equipped with one petrol and two diesel engines. The petrol version uses a 2.0 liter engine. This engine is equipped with a turbocharging system and direct fuel injection. All this gives it a maximum power of 211 horsepower. Diesel versions have a 2.0-liter engine with a maximum output of 170 horsepower, which is also turbocharged, and a V-shaped six-cylinder engine with a displacement of 3.0 liters and a maximum output of 240 horsepower.
In 2009, the range of proposed power plants was expanded. It appeared: a two-liter turbodiesel engine with a maximum power of 143 horsepower and a two-liter turbocharged gasoline engine capable of developing a nominal power of 180 horsepower. However, these are not all engines used, as other options have also been used:
- 2.0 liter gasoline hybrid engine with a maximum output of 245 horsepower;
- 2.0 liter turbocharged petrol engine with a maximum power of 180 horsepower;
- 3.0 liter V-shaped six-cylinder engine with a maximum power of 272 horsepower;
- 3.2 liter V-shaped six-cylinder engine with a maximum output of 270 horsepower.
For these engines, the manufacturer has provided its new development, which is a seven-speed S-tronic robotic gearbox. In 2011, an alternative option appeared, which was an eight-speed tiptronic automatic transmission. The first generation has permanent all-wheel drive as standard. This is provided by the proprietary quattro system and the Torsen differential, which together allow the distribution of torque between the front and rear wheels in a ratio of 40:60, which is also characteristic of other Audi crossovers.
The second generation was presented to the general public in 2017. In addition to changing the design and interior, the manufacturer also changed the technical equipment of the model. All engines used were borrowed from the Audi A4 B9. Gasoline versions have under the hood either a two-liter engine with a maximum output of 252 horsepower, or one of several three-liter engines. Diesel versions can be equipped with one of four engines, including:
- 2.0 liter turbocharged engine with a maximum power of 150 horsepower;
- 2.0 liter turbocharged engine with a maximum power of 163 horsepower;
- 2.0 liter turbocharged engine with a maximum power of 190 horsepower;
- 3.0 liter turbocharged V6 engine with a maximum output of 286 horsepower.
All presented engines, both petrol and diesel, are paired with a six-speed manual transmission or a seven-speed robotic S-tronic. For the three-liter unit, only an eight-speed automatic transmission was offered. In this generation, front-wheel drive versions became the standard solution. This option came out more economical than models with all-wheel drive. The latter still remained available, but already as an additional option. The option itself includes the new Quattro Ultra system, which means not a permanent all-wheel drive, but a plug-in one. This also had a positive effect on the economy with the same cross-country ability.
