2.0 VC-Turbo engine with variable compression ratio
A single engine is combined with one transmission option - an 8-speed CVT. In the basic versions of the crossover, traction is directed only to the front axle, while in the top versions, a plug-in all-wheel drive is available with a multi-plate clutch installed in front of the rear axle. A maximum of 50% of traction is transferred to the rear wheels (this happens, for example, when starting a car).
The new QX50 has two steering options: standard electric power steering and optional Direct Adaptive Steering. In the second case, there is no mechanical connection between the steering wheel and the wheels, and the transmission of commands is carried out by wire. The effort on the steering wheel is adjusted by selecting one of three modes - Default, Dynamic and Dynamic +. Also in the arsenal of the SUV there is a selector for a complex change in driving characteristics. It provides four modes - Standard, Eco, Sport and Personal. Each of them affects, among other things, the work of adaptive shock absorbers. The suspension of the crossover, by the way, is now built according to a new scheme: in front - the usual MacPherson strut, in the back - a multi-link.
If we talk about the parameters of efficiency, then the new Infiniti model will consume on average about 8.7-9.1 l / 100 km. Classmates in this regard are a little more “gluttonous”. But the dynamic characteristics of a Japanese car cannot be called super-outstanding. For acceleration from 0 to 97 km / h, the front-wheel drive QX50 spends about 6.7 seconds, all-wheel drive - about 6.3 seconds. "Maximum speed" for both versions is limited to 230 km / h. Competitors from Mercedes and Audi demonstrate the same, if not better dynamics.

In fact, acceleration without miracles, but seamlessly dynamic - in the declared 7.3 seconds. I'm not sure about a hundred. At 130 km / h, there are about 2,000 rpm, that is, the engine, consider, is not audible, which cannot be said with a calmer movement. Rolling in "Drive" 70 km / h - the engine, basya release, pushes almost at idle. You translate into Sport - the speed jumps higher than desired.
In fact, the new QX30 really does do well in corners, leaning slightly and sliding predictably on all four wheels, but the steering effort is blurry and does not come out to be enjoyed. But the brakes ventilated “in a circle” are definitely great: the first sticking is noticeable, and the dosage of deceleration is understandable.
Tactilely, this is felt implicitly, but the Infiniti QX30 holds tight to the trajectory in corners at any speed within reason. The main complaint is comfort due to lateral shaking on rough roads.
The suspension is dense and that's why the driver likes it more than the passengers - he feels that between the body and the wheels there are not trembling hamstrings, but muscles in good shape, and therefore boldly rushes over almost most of the bumps. Fellow travelers do not experience discomfort, but on all potholes, except for those that can absorb 18-inch tires with a 50 percent profile, transverse shaking gets out.
She could be less intrusive if Infiniti did not pursue pseudo-sportiness. The good news is that the cabin is quiet, which probably helps with active noise cancellation.
