Is the Skoda Octavia A7 so reliable? Skoda Octavia III (A7) - a new twist Problems skoda octavia a7.

The third generation Skoda Octavia debuted at the end of 2012. It is built on the modular MQB platform - the one that underlies the VW Golf VII and many other models of the German concern VW Group.

Compared with the second generation, the third Octavia has grown significantly. For example, the wheelbase has increased by 10.8 cm. The dimensions call into question positioning as a compact car. This model was somewhere between classes C and D. Despite the increase in dimensions, the weight decreased by almost 100 kg.

Octavia, as before, was offered in two body types: liftback and station wagon. The trunk of both versions is simply huge: 590-1580 and 610-1740 liters, respectively.

Fortunately, the manufacturer did not save on amplifiers in critical places. Skoda Octavia A7 earned 5 stars in crash tests. The predecessor was only able to get four stars.

At the beginning of 2017, a restyled version with dual headlights was introduced.

Modern equipment

The basic modifications of the Octavia A7 were equipped with a manual transmission, air conditioning, electric and heated exterior mirrors, front electric windows, 2 airbags, ABS and central locking.

For an additional fee, it was possible to significantly expand the level of equipment. For example, purchase a two-piece panoramic sunroof, active cruise control, emergency braking system, lane assistant, keyless entry and much more. The predecessor could not offer so much modern equipment.

Czech cars are valued for many useful solutions in the cabin (Simply Clever): a cooled temperature-controlled glove box, a vest under the driver's seat, openings in the front doors that can hold 1.5-liter bottles, an umbrella in the station wagon or the famous green glass scraper under the cover filling hatch.

The dimensions of the cabin cause a real delight among people in the first and second rows. Passengers with long legs on the back sofa will not have to complain about discomfort during long trips.

Engines

One of the popular gasoline engines is 1.4 TSI. The third Octavia uses its revised version EA211. Instead of a timing chain, a toothed belt is installed here. The engine has not yet created big problems, and oil consumption is within reasonable limits. Nothing is heard about the accumulation of soot.

However, many owners have to deal with turbo failures. The problem is the turbine actuator, which is sticking. Until September 2014, it was integrated into the turbocharger, so the entire assembly had to be replaced. After it became possible to change the actuator separately from the turbine.

Some owners point to the fact that the upgraded 1.4 TSI is much louder than the old EA111. Perhaps it's all about the simplified soundproofing.

The reliability of 1.2 TSI is also rated well. True, its power is clearly not enough for such a large car. The most powerful 1.8 and 2.0 TFSI are the same EA888 with a timing chain drive. Fortunately, there are no problems with the timing drive yet, and the issue of oil consumption is not as acute as before.

The new atmospheric 1.6 liter (now with a chain-type timing drive) sometimes closer to 100,000 km disappoints with the rather noisy operation of the gas pump or phase shifter.

The thermostat is a common ailment of cars with gasoline engines. Its malfunction can lead to underheating, and sometimes to overheating of the engine. He can refuse after 10-20 thousand km. After 50-100 thousand km, the pump can also fail.

The 1.6 TDI CR replaced the 1.9 TDI. It was not offered in Russia. In the basic version, the young engine has the same power and torque as the old engine. But the 1.6 TDI consumes less fuel - about 5.5 l/100 km. Even when fully loaded, it burns around 6.5 l/100 km. A typical problem with a small diesel engine is the premature failure of the water pump. Another common ailment is charge air sensor failure.

No less good is the 2.0 TDI CR (150 or 184 hp). Its main vulnerability is the timing belt tensioner, which does not withstand the 200,000 km allotted to it. It has to be changed closer to 150,000 km.

Transmission

The most expensive faults are associated with gearboxes. For example, there is premature wear of bearings in manual transmissions. In this case, a characteristic noise appears.

The notorious DSG has not relieved owners of anxiety. Although it is worth recognizing - the percentage of malfunctions has decreased. The worst opinions are collected by the DSG7 (DQ200) with a dry clutch. After 150-200 thousand km, repairs are practically unavoidable. However, there are also positive examples with trouble-free mileage of more than 350,000 km. Most often you have to change the clutch and release bearing, less often mechatronics. It is noteworthy that until 2014 the warranty for the robot was 5 years, and after that it was reduced to 2 years.

DSG6 (DQ250) with oil bath clutch turned out to be much more enduring. It is used only in combination with a 2-liter turbodiesel. The wet clutch DSG7 is only for the RS version with a 245 hp petrol engine.

The hydromechanical machine went to a 1.6-liter aspirated. He hasn't raised any objections yet.

Chassis

The universal platform allowed not only to increase the wheelbase, but also to use various types of suspensions. Depending on the engine version, a torsion beam or a lever system is installed in the rear of the Octavia. The multi-link scheme is used in the most powerful versions of 1.8 TSI and 2.0 TSI (RS), as well as in the presence of an all-wheel drive system.

The suspension has a decent lifespan, but often hits hard, especially in the rear on the beam versions. It is possible to get rid of noise by replacing standard shock absorbers with analogues. Knocking in the front, as a rule, occurs due to the banal wear of the struts and stabilizer bushings.

Typical problems and malfunctions

The first customers encountered electrical failures. In most cases, it was possible to get rid of ailments by updating the software. There were also problems with power windows. After replacing the switch, the problem did not return.

The touch screen of the Balero head unit is often buggy - it stops responding to touch, especially in wet weather. Dealers are changing the screen, and in the meantime, the owners have found a simple solution - the use of a protective film.

In a car with xenon, the headlight washer sometimes fails. Due to damage to the spring, the nozzle remains in the open position. The service completely changes the atomizer.

Another childhood disease is the spontaneous lowering of the back of the driver's seat with a mechanical adjustment of the position.

Special versions

Skoda Octavia RS

Octavia RS III was presented in 2013 at the Goodweed Festival of Speed. Like its predecessor, it was equipped with two engines: petrol 2.0 TSI / 220 hp. and diesel 2.0 TDI / 184 hp The RS has bigger brakes, lowered suspension and sports seats.

In 2015, a more powerful variation of the RS 230 was introduced with a 10 hp boost. 2.0 TSI and electronically controlled differential. It is capable of accelerating up to 250 km / h. In 2017, another limited edition RS 245 with 245 hp was presented.

Skoda Octavia Scout

The Scout version appeared in 2014 and was based on the Octavia Combi 4x4. It has increased ground clearance (by 31 mm), special lining on the body and 17-inch wheels. The transmission uses a 5th generation Haldex clutch. All Scouts, like all-wheel drive modifications, have a multi-link rear suspension.

Conclusion

The strengths of the Skoda Octavia are a huge interior and trunk, good equipment and the latest German Volkswagen technologies. Today, gasoline engines practically do not cause concern, but the DSG robot still haunts the owners.

Owner reviews

Great design. Large spacious lounge. Excellent soundproofing. Just a huge and roomy trunk of the correct form. Good ground clearance with PPD suspension (even in the database). Electronic assistance systems are even in the database. Good visibility. Salon without surplus, as they say, simple and boring, but I just like it - there is no surplus and cheap Chinese. The plastic of the torpedo is soft.

A high-torque engine that has not eaten a single gram of oil at the moment (it is confirmed on the forums that the 1.8 TSI no longer eats oil). Economical, on the highway it easily fit into 6 liters, and in the city an average of 9 liters. It is possible to disable auxiliary systems. Separate climate control. Various pockets and drawers. Heated washer nozzles are a very useful thing in winter.

The plastic on the doors is still hard, but it does not make noise and is pleasant to the eye, on the other hand, it is easier to wash it. Factory radio. The passenger seat in front is a little higher, this is not usual.

Video review

Reliability, good handling, comfort, fuel consumption, reasonable prices for spare parts and maintenance.

On the downside: that's what the designers (or engineers, or marketers) of Skoda thought when they placed the filler neck for the washer fluid and the attachment point of the "poker" to hold the hood in one place?

Further, the aerodynamics of the body in the area of the mirrors: five minutes of driving at a decent speed in rainy weather and that's it - you can't see anything in the mirrors, and there is a thick layer of dirt on the glasses (namely in the area of \u200b\u200bthe mirrors). The next point is a small fuel tank (about 45 liters). And finally, the rear beam.

Konstantin Goncharov, drives Skoda Octavia 2.0d (143 hp) AT 2013

Economical and high-torque engine. Roomy trunk.

Lottery collection. Doors don't close well. Radiator knock when going over bumps. Bad soundproofing. Strong rolls in corners and poor stability on the track. Frequent breakdowns of the rear suspension. Glitches Bolero in the cold.

Review of Skoda Octavia A7 1.4 mechanics 2014 onwards

Suspension moderately hard, constantly hurts back. With equipment, everything is good. Bixenon -theme, speakerphone - theme, heated seats. Pumped up the sound. Be sure to rustle the arches and doors, which I actually did.

For 6,500 km, I added 400 grams of oil - the verdict: eats little. The trunk is large — everything is clear here. The brakes are good, but God forbid you overheat. Everything is fine with DSG, only the sound when driving over bumps is like a bucket of bolts attached to the car.

Sound. Established system frank g ... about. The speakers are Made in China, apparently made from pressed monkey poop. I installed an active subwoofer under the seat and it fixed things a bit. This minus will not affect the owners of Canton - everything is in order with the speakers and sound.

Some elements of the interior look cheap. Saving on small things. There is no insulation under the hood, a gas stop for the hood, there were no floor mats in the car for 1 million! Kick me that I'm crazy, but there should be rugs!

Where can I buy?

Particularly impressive 1.4 turbo engine, super dynamics! Trunk, handling, efficiency and cool dynamics. In general, there are solid pluses in the car ... And I would be happy and happy, but after almost a year, the question arose about “draining” this car into a trade-in due to the unreliable DSG 7 box.

Three clutch changes in 9 months! Mileage less than 30,000 km. Before buying, I read about the problems of this box, but so much so! This is the main disadvantage that covers a bunch of small jambs, such as bad noise, a howling kondeya compressor, poor body rigidity (when the car is on an uneven surface, the doors do not open / close), glitches of the Bolero touch radio in wet weather (it switches radio stations by itself, does not respond on pressing) and many others.

But these are all trifles, in comparison with the eternal breakdowns of one of the main components of the car - the gearbox.

Ilya Popov, review of Skoda Octavia 1.4 (140 hp) automatic transmission 2013

I compare with the previous Octavia. The car has become a little larger, the dynamics are the same, given that there is an automatic here. Eats an average of 1-1.5 liters less. Based on the reviews, I expected that this engine would burn oil. Fears were not justified. Three times pah. The trunk is just as big, but in the wagon it is much more practical.

Heavy trunk lid. If it is covered with snow, then it is hard to lift it to get the brush from the trunk. With this engine, there is a beam at the back. In winter, on sharp turns, at increased speed, the rear tries to skid. In the previous ones, there was an independent suspension, and the car entered the turns like it was on rails. Slightly stiff suspension. It's the shock absorbers.

There were many cars, but for the first time on the machine. Sensitive upshifts (from 1st to 2nd and then to 3rd speed) to a cold one were embarrassing, but as soon as the box warms up, the shocks disappear. Dealers said that's how automatics work. Now I'm used to it.

Review of Skoda Octavia 1.6 (110 hp) with automatic 2016

Engine 1.8 180 horses very impressed. Huge power reserve at any speed. Trips on the highway have become just a walk. Overtaking has become elementary - 3 seconds and that's it! Consumption on the highway is less than 7 liters at speeds of 130-150 and the air conditioner on, in the city - 10 liters.

Very comfortable box, in normal mode, in sports. Very soft shifting, fast response to the gas pedal. The stabilization system is generally fire!

The car is very stable on the road - 80 km / h is like a walk. Manageability is excellent. And, of course, the liftback body! Huge trunk! This is a great family car with the ability to dynamically ride.

Review of Skoda Octavia 1.8 (180 hp) with robot 2017 onwards

The novelty was introduced in December 2012. Thanks to the work of the chief designer of the project, Josef Kaban, the car managed to combine such important properties as a bright appearance and practicality, which all previous generations of Octavia were famous for.

If we compare the liftback body of the second and third generation, we get the following changes in overall dimensions:

Length 4659 (+90 mm.);

Width 1814 (+45 mm.);

Height 1476 (+14 mm.);

Wheelbase 2686 (+108 mm.);

Ground clearance 155 (-9 mm.);

Front track width 1549 (+8 mm.);

Rear track width 1520 (+6 mm.).

Trunk volume has also increased - up to 568/1558 liters for the liftback, up to 588/1718 liters for the station wagon (Comb).

In 2017, the Skoda Octavia A7 was restyled, as a result of which some overall dimensions changed slightly, so the length was increased to 4670 mm, and the rear track width began to have a value of 1540 mm. In addition, the headlights, taillights, front and rear bumpers, as well as the radiator grill have changed. You can see comparative photos of pre-styling and restyling versions of Octavia. There is only one change in power units, the 2.0 TSI engine now has 230 hp, against 220 hp. on dorestyling. A car with a 1.8 TSI engine can now be selected with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, which is realized thanks to the multi-plate clutch and its control unit. The interior changes at least.

Skoda Octavia III engines.

Dorestyling in the Russian Federation had a choice of 4 types of power plants with gasoline fuel - this is one aspirated 1.6 MPI (mod. CWVA engine) with a power of 110 hp. at 5800 rpm and three turbocharged 1.4 TSI (CHPA and CZDA) with 140 and 150 hp. at 5000-6000 rpm, 1.8 TSI (CJSA; CJSB) with 180 hp at 5100-6200 rpm, as well as 2.0 TSI (CHHB) with a maximum power of 220 hp. at 4500-6200 rpm. Our diesel engine was represented by only one 2.0-liter turbo engine. TDI CR (CKFC; CRMB; CYKA) with a maximum output of 150 hp at 3500-4000 rpm. As I wrote above, with the advent of restyling, the 2.0 TSI installation added an additional 10 hp to the power.

The most popular engine for 2017 can be called the 1.4 TSI, which is the most optimal in terms of such aggregate characteristics as price, dynamics and efficiency. The engine is part of the EA211 series of power plants, which replaced the EA111 series. 1.4 TSI EA211, unlike its predecessor, has an aluminum block with cast iron liners, the cylinder diameter has been reduced by 2.0 mm. to a value of 74.5 mm .. The crankshaft has become lighter, the piston stroke has a value of 80.0 mm. The cylinder head has 16 valves, two camshafts. Unlike the 1.4 TSI EA111, the exhaust manifold, which is integrated into the cylinder head itself, is now located at the rear. On engine versions 140-150 hp phase shifters are located on both the intake and exhaust (not to be confused with the 122 hp version, on which the phase shifter is located only on the intake). A belt is used as a drive, the replacement interval of which is 70-90 thousand km.

Of the typical problems of all gasoline engines, one can note the replacement of the thermostat on early runs. It is not uncommon for the turbo actuator to fail. Until September 2014, this problem was solved by a complete replacement of the turbine, after which changes were made to the design and it became possible to replace the boost controller without replacing the turbine. 1.6 MPI engines are the simplest of all, but they also have problems - this is the failure of the air conditioning compressor, fuel pump, as well as increased oil consumption up to 0.5 l / 1000 km. You can read more about the 1.6 MPI engine in various modifications

Power plants 1.8 TSI and 2.0 TSI from the EA888 series have a timing chain drive. The maslozhor did not bypass these engines either, but the cases became isolated, unlike previous generations of these engines. Let me remind you that the main reason for the increased appetite of the previous generation 1.8-2.0 TSI engine for oil was the coking of the drainage holes of the oil scraper rings. As a rule, the start of the coking process began at 50-60 thousand km, complete coking of the drainage rings was completed at 100-120 thousand km. The dealer in this case changes the pistons with drainage with greater productivity. On new 1.8-2.0-liter engines, zhor oil is found, judging by the specialized forums, but these cases are isolated. In general, it is believed that the most trouble-free gasoline engines on the Skoda Octavia A7 are 1.8-liter.

The 2.0 TDI CR turbo diesel is also good. Sufficiently reliable and unpretentious unit. The only joint is the timing belt tensioner, which fails ahead of time and asks for a replacement on runs of 140-150 thousand km.

Transmission Skoda Octavia A7.

For 1.6 l engine. There are two options: 5-st. manual transmission and 6-st. automatic transmission. On engines 1.4 and 1.8 they are already putting 6-tbsp. Manual transmission or DSG-7. The manual transmission in both cases is considered very reliable, early wear of the bearings can be noted as nitpicking, which leads to a characteristic howl, but in general, nothing critical. Hydromechanical automatic transmission is also very reliable, but up to 120-150 thousand km. mileage may be a problem with the valve body. A lot has already been written about DSG7 (DQ200) and you can read about it And , but it must be added that, compared with the early versions of the robotic boxes of this model, by our time they have improved significantly and the percentage of breakdowns has decreased significantly ... although of course, in my amateur opinion, this is a bad option for the quiet operation of the car, especially if the warranty ended on a car.))) For the restyling of the Skoda Octavia A7 2017 with a 1.8 TSI engine with all-wheel drive, as well as for the 2.0 TDI CR and 2.0 TSI, DSG6 (DQ250) is installed, which is considered more reliable, the main thing is a timely oil change ( interval 50-60 thousand km), prevent wheel slip and try to push less in traffic jams. The DSG-6 resource, with proper operation, can reach 200-250 thousand km. without opening.
