Compare summer tires 205 55 r16. Summer tires R16: reviews, tests, price, which ones are better to buy? The best silent summer tires

02.07.2020

Test date: August 2013
Venue: Clermont-Ferrand, Polygon Michelin
Car: Skoda Octavia

The new test of summer tires is dedicated to 16 sets, divided into two categories - the first (more expensive tires from well-known brands) and the second line (budget solutions). The dimension of the tested models is 205/55 R16.

The main goal of our tests was not only to find the best product in each of the categories, but also to compare them with each other. In other words, we tried to determine whether the savings (or overpayment) associated with the purchase of certain models of R16 summer tires are justified.

List of tested tires

First line:

  • ContiPremiumContact 5 by Continental;
  • Turanza T001 from Bridgestone;
  • Ventus Prime2 by Hankook;
  • C.drive 2 designed and manufactured by Yokohama;
  • Cooper Zeon CS6;
  • Primacy 3 from Michelin;
  • Cinturato P7 by Pirelli;
  • Hakka Blue from Nokian;
  • Proxes CF2 manufactured by Toyo;
  • Efficient Grip Performance by Goodyear.

Second line:

  • Viatti Strada Asimmetrico;
  • Formula Energy;
  • Sport 3 from Cordiant;
  • Nordman SX;
  • MP 44 Elite 3 brand Matador;
  • Sava Intensa.

Same manufacturer, different brands

Many tire companies produce their products under several brands. As a rule, if the name of the tires matches the name of the manufacturers (Continental, Nokian, Pirelli), then the tires can be safely attributed to the first line. They use innovative solutions and the latest technologies.

For budget tires, manufacturers use other names (Nordman, Matador, etc.). They are intended for the mass market, have a simpler design, a slightly complex rubber compound (without any impurities and additives like Finnish pine oil, only everything you need), a standard tread pattern.

The tested Viatti and Cordiant tires should also be included in the second line tires.

A question of price

The difference in the cost of tires of the first and second lines of size R16 205/55 is not as significant as when buying larger tires (for example, for crossovers and SUVs). Our case is no exception. Tires positioned by manufacturers as higher quality ones cost around 3-4 thousand rubles, and the price of second-line products does not exceed the threshold of 3 thousand rubles.

Wet road tests

The greatest number of questions when testing summer tires arises at sites with wet asphalt. It is on it that most of the problems and shortcomings of tires can be found, so our test of R16 tires began with this capricious coating.

The first tests were driving in a circle with a diameter of 220 meters and driving along a ring track, the length of which was 2.3 km. As a test car, we took the Skoda Octavia. As a result, the results were as follows: among the leaders, as expected, were the products of the brands Toyo, Continental and Pirelli. Worst of all in this tire test, Viatti and Sava tires showed themselves.

We then moved on to testing tire handling and evaluating their effect on vehicle stability. In addition to lap times, each test set was subjectively rated for responsiveness and ease of handling.

As usual, some tires are convincing but keep the rider on their toes, while others are less "fiery" and make the lap slower but noticeably quieter.

The included stabilization system also contributes to the final score. With some tires, it works together. The “electronics” obviously does not want to “be friends” with other sets, sharply pulls the car when performing certain maneuvers.

In the final measurements, we still decided to turn off the stabilization system. The best way to cope with our Skoda tires Continental and Goodyear. It was with them that Octavia showed the best lap time. But driving on a wet road with Sava and Viatti tires is not recommended. They turn the car into an uncontrollable colossus that glides like a cow on ice.

To test the drainage properties of the treads and the resistance of the tires to hydroplaning, we went to a specially prepared track. It was flooded with a uniform 7 mm layer of water. The best tires in this test were Hankook, Pirelli and Formula. Worst of all showed themselves (before all break into slips) Cooper tires.

The latest in a series of wet road tests was the braking performance test. And again among the leaders was Continental, and outsiders - Sava. Tires of the second line increase the stopping distance of the car from a speed of 80 km / h by about 10 meters. This is a huge difference!

Dry road tests

The first test was to check the braking properties. Here the difference between the tested kits was not so huge. Between the best and worst tires, it did not exceed 4 meters. The winners in the test were Continental products.

Then, on dry pavement, we determined the acoustic comfort and assessed the overall smoothness of the ride. To do this, Skoda Octavia went on a short trip along special routes, where there are all the charms of ordinary Russian roads (bumps, joints, well hatches). Goodyear, Toyo and Continental tires performed very well in these tests. The stiffest and noisiest tires were Nordman and Bridgestone.

About the winner, worthy candidates for purchase and disappointing ...

The test of summer tires allowed us to determine that the best in the 205/55 R16 class are the ContiPremiumContact 5. They performed well in every test, showing their best qualities. The tires have excellent grip on wet roads and good acoustic comfort.

The only thing that somewhat alarmed our test group was the high wear resistance. After six laps, which we drove in active mode, there was quite a lot of wear in the shoulder area of the Continental. This was not observed in other tire models.

By the way, Continental is not the only option to buy. After testing, we can safely say that motorists can choose between several very, very good tires, including Goodyear, Michelin, Pirelli, Toyo and Hankook. Tires from these manufacturers scored almost the same number of points.

Among the tires of the second line, the products of the Matador brand became the best. She not only outstripped her “classmates”, but also practically caught up with Goodyear and Michelin tires in terms of results. Not far behind the Matador tires are Formula Energy. For their money, they performed very worthy in several trials.

The main disappointment of the test was the expensive Cooper Zeon CS6 tires. They performed poorly in almost every test discipline. Particularly noteworthy is the unconvincing performance of the tires on wet roads.

Viatti and Sava performed the worst among the budget category tires, but this was expected.

The Continental outperformed its competitors in virtually every wet test discipline. On the handling track, they endowed the car with perfect responsiveness. When cornering, you can note the optimal balance between drift and drift. All slips are easily controlled and predictable.

The only test they lost to their competitors was hydroplaning resistance. Continental tires float in deep puddles earlier than Formula and Pirelli.

On dry asphalt roads, the tires have minimal braking distances and excellent comfort characteristics. The ride with the Continental is smooth and pleasant. However, the high comfort of tires is the cause of some lethargy and roll on dry pavement. Octavia, shod in German rubber, did not shine with responsiveness.

The main and, perhaps, the only pronounced disadvantage of tires is the high wear rate. Judge for yourself, after six laps of active driving, the shoulder tread area was worn out more than the competition.

In general, ideal tires for good operating conditions. An excellent purchase for drivers with a calm and adequate driving style.

About the main features:

  • very comfortable
  • perfectly balanced grip on wet roads
  • controllable and responsive in wet weather

Minuses:

  • accelerated wear with active driving

Review

The Cinturato P7 is far from a new tire model. She is now in her fifth year, but the second result in our test tests indicates that the Pirelli specialists once did a great job. They created well-balanced tires that remain competitive to this day.

In the wet road test, the Pirelli lost only to our test winner. On the other hand, the “Italians” cope better with driving through deep puddles (higher resistance to aquaplaning).

At the same time, the tires have a sporty and slightly aggressive character. This is not always appropriate. For example, it interferes somewhat when cornering on a wet road. Sharp slips and a tendency to skid made our test driver tense more than once, although the result was very high.

On the pavement, the Pirellis are more crisp and calm. Here they do not strive to be like sports tires. Turns go like it's on rails. At the same time, tires do not emit extraneous noise that would annoy during a long trip. With a smooth ride, the tires are also in full order. Joints, pits and potholes (of moderate severity) are passed well, but larger potholes are given in the cabin.

A good purchase for drivers with experience and reckless driving.

About the main features:

  • don't make noise
  • very good wet grip
  • active, but calm on the pavement, well controlled

Minuses:

  • tendency to skid on a wet road

Review

Ventus Prime2 are high quality tires made in Korea. Gradually, Hankook is gaining a leading position in the tire market. This is evidenced not only by the great interest on the part of buyers, but also by automakers. In particular, the Daimler concern approved these tires for the original configuration of the flagship S-Class.

The Korean tires did well in wet conditions. This applies primarily to hydroplaning resistance and braking. With handling, not everything is so smooth. They, like Pirelli tires, allow you to drive quickly and safely, but make you nervous, as the behavior of the car becomes more abrupt.

On pavement, the tires are quieter and more flexible. You can go fast and have fun. Even at a speed of 150 km / h, Skoda Octavia pleased with its calmness and poise. Turns are passed actively, provocatively, and most importantly - safely.

In terms of comfort, Hankook is somewhat similar to Pirelli. The result obtained in the noise measurement test turned out to be almost the same. However, there are differences in the smoothness of the ride. “Koreans” go through large bumps more gently, but they manage to drive through many small ones with difficulty.

About the main features:

  • high acoustic comfort
  • dry handling
  • excellent grip on wet roads

Minuses:

  • there are complaints about the smoothness of the ride
  • a certain harshness in reactions on a wet road makes it difficult to control

Toyo is still a dark horse for domestic car owners. Although they are made in Japan, Russians are still reluctant to buy tires from this brand when compared to Yokohama and Bridgestone. However, our test of the R16 summer tires showed that the Proxes CF2 is a very good tire with excellent wet traction. Even on the handling track, they do not stand out and show decent results (against the background of European competitors).

Dry pavement for Toyo tires is also not a problem. Tires brake well and are well controlled (there are delays in reactions, steering is sometimes required). Imperfect handling is compensated by good ride and high fuel efficiency. According to the last characteristic, the "Japanese" are among the top three tires in our test.

And here we come to another important advantage. It's about price. Of all the first line tires, Toyo is the most affordable. There can be only one verdict here - we recommend it.

About the main features:

  • high acoustic comfort
  • pleased with the handling and grip on a wet track
  • price

Minuses:

  • there are shortcomings in the field of handling on a wet road

Review

The Primacy 3s don't impress in wet conditions. For example, in order to stop, they need 2.5 m more than on Continental tires. On the handling track, the Michelins also fall behind the leaders. When cornering, the demolition of the front axle draws attention to itself. It is pronounced, but easily controlled. We can say that with Primacy 3 you can go without a stabilization system.

On dry pavement, Michelin results are much better. They were good in both the handling test and the braking test. Also, another significant advantage of these tires is good rolling. In the test for fuel efficiency, the "French" were ahead of only Goodyear.

At the same time, the tires are not comfortable enough. The main complaints concern the high noise level. It is unobtrusive, but quite clearly audible. In this regard, Michelin loses to competitors.

These tires can be recommended to residents of the southern regions. Michelin promote active and safe driving on dry roads. On wet pavement, you need to be careful with them. They don’t handle very well, and they have some problems with hydroplaning.

About the main features:

  • stable and responsive handling on dry roads
  • good braking on pavement in dry weather

Minuses:

  • make noise
  • less than ideal handling on wet roads

The Goodyear performed well on wet pavement. This can be considered a tradition for tires from this manufacturer. The EGP model is no exception to the general rule. The tires contribute to a quiet, soft and precise ride. It was this behavior that made it possible to fix an excellent lap time. Goodyear lagged behind the leaders represented by Continental by 0.3 s.

At the same time, there are certain complaints in the field of braking. Wheels with these tires lock up too early. The gap from the leader (Continental) is very large - almost 5 meters!

On dry pavement, the results are opposite. The Goodyear brakes well but doesn't handle very well. Reactions to the steering wheel become slower and "smeared".

All in all Goodyear are good tires for the money. They can be recommended to drivers who are not in a hurry, drive calmly and appreciate comfort in tires.

About the main features:

  • comfortable
  • low rolling resistance
  • handle well in wet conditions

Minuses:

  • do not brake very well on a wet asphalt track
  • "Smeared" and slow reactions on a dry road

Review

Blue is another member of the Hakka family.

The Hakka Blue, which the Finnish manufacturer is positioning as a tire with newfangled technology for better handling on wet roads, wasn't overly impressed with its results. Despite the special tread grooves and the composition of silica with special components, the Finnish tires performed poorly in tests on wet roads. It is simply not able to compete on an equal footing with the leaders.

On the other hand, Finnish specialists can be commended for their good work in the area of manageability. Tires delight with their responsiveness, soft transitions to slip. However, the driver who ordered the Hakka Blue kit needs to be careful when driving through deep puddles. The tires pop up earlier than usual (than most of the other models we tested).

On pavement, Finnish tires would have earned higher marks if they weren't so noisy. Low levels of comfort greatly spoil the driving experience. Even good handling with fast and accurate reactions does not help. This is partly due to the increased load capacity (670 kg). Because of this, the Finns had to make a more rigid frame structure.

About the main features:

  • handle well on wet roads
  • good dry handling

Minuses:

  • quite noisy
  • roll poorly, do not save fuel
  • early "float" when driving through deep puddles

Previously, Yokohama supplied tires made in Japan and the Philippines to Russia. Now the domestic tire market is represented by tires made in Lipetsk.

Let's start with a description of the benefits. First, the tires are to be commended for their excellent resistance to hydroplaning. The protector does an excellent job with its drainage properties. Secondly, the tires brake well on wet roads. However, in the last "water" discipline (management), the Russian-made Japanese rubber is not so smooth. She breaks into slips, behaves abruptly and nervously. This made it difficult to show a good result on a wet track.

On dry pavement, average results were mostly recorded. Braking - so-so, control - quite stable, but not up to a high level. But there are problems with comfort. Even small bumps are a serious test for Yokohama. All pits and potholes are transferred to the body, and they are palpable.

In general, Yokohama has many more disadvantages than advantages.

About the main features:

  • excellent resistance to hydroplaning

Minuses:

  • poor wet handling
  • uncomfortable

Problems with the Bridgestone are mostly related to wet road behavior. Lap times are very unconvincing. A good result was not allowed to show breakdowns in sliding, a pronounced skid, which constantly has to be corrected.

There are also some problems with dry asphalt. The tires don't brake very well. To stop on Octavia from a speed of 100 km / h, tires took more than 40 meters. In turn, all tires from the top five were able to complete this exercise in less than 39 m.

Of course, tires have an increased load capacity and have a 2-layer carcass. The latter means that tires are characterized by increased wear resistance and high strength. However, you will have to pay for this in comfort.

Minuses:

  • make a lot of noise
  • characterized by instability and poor responsiveness on a wet track
  • poor running smoothness

Cooper showed the worst results among all first-line tires on wet roads. With this level of grip, they can only compete with less expensive tires.

The Cooper-clad Octavia slowed down reluctantly, accelerated poorly, and was also generally naughty. The final position does not correct the hydroplaning resistance either. Tires float before their competitors, despite the presence of numerous transverse grooves.

Dry asphalt is also not the element of this tire. The rear axle constantly strove to go into a skid, so on the handling track I had to gently, but very actively work with the “steering wheel”. The braking qualities of the Cooper are mediocre, but the ride and rolling are average. These are perhaps the only advantages of these tires, which are sold in Russia at an unreasonably high price.

About the main features:

  • average performance in the area of comfort
  • contribute to economical driving

Minuses:

  • low hydroplaning resistance
  • do not perform well on wet/dry roads
  • there are complaints about braking on dry / wet roads

Review

Matador is a Slovak tire developed and manufactured under the supervision of Continental. The fact is that the plant from Slovakia belongs to the Germans, and they have invested a fairly large amount of money in its development and re-equipment.

At the same time, one part of Matador tires for the Russian car market is sent from Slovakia, and the other part is produced at the Kaluga plant.

As for the advantages of tires, it is worth noting excellent braking. A short stopping distance allowed the Matador to take third place in the overall standings. The handling track is also in full order. Budget tires-winners allow you to go very quickly, without fear of sharp drifts and skids. It is worth noting that all deviations are easily controlled by the steering wheel.

The results in the tests for checking the smoothness of the ride and the noise level can be classified as average.

Matador is one of the ideal options in terms of price / performance ratio.

About the main features:

  • gripping properties are pleasing, as well as handling stability on dry / wet roads
  • adequately resist hydroplaning

Minuses:

  • low comfort

The Formula brand is owned by the Italian manufacturer Pirelli. They designate tires of the second line, manufactured at a plant in Voronezh. By the way, Pirelli tires are also produced at this enterprise.

Budget tires have an asymmetric tread pattern. It copes well with aquaplaning and allows you to drive calmly at a fairly high speed. Unfortunately, there aren't as many good things to say about the handling and braking performance of Formula tires. Confident management is hampered by slips that are sharp.

On dry roads, the rubber is more collected, so the results are average.

Interesting observations in the field of smoothness. Inexpensive Formula tires are more attractive than Bridgestone and Nokian.

Review

Nordman SX has a tread pattern similar to Nokian i3 tires. This indicates that the Finns are very rational use of available resources.

The main advantage of new old tires is the ability to effectively combat hydroplaning. Thus, the driver can quite quickly and calmly drive through wet sections of the road. At the same time, you need to be careful. On the handling track, it was noticed that tires are characterized by a breakdown into skids. With braking, everything is also not very smooth. The braking distance cannot be called the shortest, and the thin line of wheel lock makes you slow down carefully.

On dry pavement, the Nordman SX does not leave the best impression. They make a lot of noise, are unstable and drive hard. On top of that, they have the longest stopping distance.

About the main features:

  • effective against hydroplaning

Minuses:

  • low running smoothness
  • make noise
  • many complaints about handling and traction on wet roads

Review

Sport 3 has some features from Hakka Blue tires. Of course, we are not talking about the use of newfangled Finnish technologies. But the tread of a Russian tire resembles something like that of a tire from Finland.

As for the results, here Cordiant is inferior to Nokian. The tires did not perform well in wet road tests. The stretch and poor predictability of slips can confuse even an experienced driver. But in deep puddles Cordiant behave confidently and calmly (“emerge” even later than Nokian).

The grip characteristics of tires on an asphalt road in dry weather are at an average level. There are no special problems with handling of tires. Although there is no talk of any sports reactions and demeanor. These are tires of a budget category, designed for an ordinary driver.

Another disadvantage of tires is high noise. Tires "rustle" the tread both on rough road surfaces and on smooth ones.

About the main features:

  • hydroplaning resistance at altitude

Minuses:

  • quite noisy
  • handling on wet roads is far from ideal
  • poor braking on wet roads

Don't let the beautiful Italian name fool you. These are ordinary budget tires that did not show anything outstanding. They are unstable on any surface, “float up” early, slow down badly. Moreover, the Viatti is characterized by imposing, unhurried reactions to the steering wheel. The driver is unlikely to enjoy driving on such tires, which, moreover, will be uneconomical.

These tires were the worst in the rolling resistance test. They roll badly, increasing fuel consumption.

The only advantage of these Russian-made tires is the affordable price.

The Sava tires, despite being developed under Goodyear's expertise, performed very poorly in our test. They failed in almost every discipline. Especially bad things are on a wet road. When braking from a speed of 80 km / h, the Skoda Octavia needed an additional 9 meters of road.

Overclocking is a little better. They literally slow down the car, although the handling is more or less decent. The tires slide smoothly and are easy to control. However, this happens at low speeds, so it makes no sense to compare tires with leaders. This

Michelin

They belong to the category of tire industry veterans. french tires Michelin confirmed by a variety of tests, which have been covered many times in various automotive publications.

Experts note the accuracy of cornering reactions, short braking distances and good handling on wet and dry roads. Let's compare the positive and negative aspects of this product.

The average price for tires Michelin r16 ranged from 3500 to 4500 rubles.

  • excellent balance of grip properties;
  • stable controllability;
  • low fuel consumption.
  • not too high recall accuracy on wet pavement.

I bought used, wear by 40 percent. Wear-resistant rubber, traveled a lot on gravel roads and without asphalt, no complaints. Up to 80 km. it holds on a wet road, then it just pops up ... It’s hard to say whether it’s advised or not, this tire has more pluses than a minus, but the behavior is not very predictable, then everything is smooth, then you go into a turn and skid a little.

Summer tires are designed to provide good grip in mild weather conditions, at temperatures of 7 degrees Celsius and above, on wet or dry surfaces. We have studied the quietest and most reliable summer tires in sizes R15, 16 and 17, sorted by popularity, and read user reviews about a particular model. This is how the 2019 summer tire rating was compiled, which we bring to your attention for the 2019 season.

10. Pirelli Cinturato P7

Opens our top 10 with an impressive all-rounder, with stable cornering and short braking distances on wet and dry surfaces. Its advantages include good handling and low noise. When driving on wet roads, Pirelli tires are perhaps second only to the first number in the rating and resist hydroplaning better than most competitors. As stated in one of the reviews, "in a downpour at 140 km / h they stand tightly." Disadvantages: humming is heard at high speed. By the way, the winter version of Pirelli tires - Ice Zero - tops the rating of the best studded tires.

9 Nokian Hakka Blue 2

Excellent value for money option. Dry Suction Sipe technology effectively sucks up water from the road, directing it to the main grooves of the tire. Thanks to this, Hakka Blue achieves maximum contact with the road surface. If you often drive on roads or city streets that are wet from the rain, and are thinking about which summer tires to choose in order to be “cheaper and more reliable”, then one of the preferred options is the Nokian Hakka Blue 2. On dry pavement, the tires also behave obediently and predictably . This rubber does not tan at the first frost, which allows it to be used from early spring to late autumn. The noise level is quite comfortable even at high speed. Cons: weak sidewall, high wear.

7. Michelin Primacy 3

If the R17 had no other competitors in the ranking of the best summer tires of 2019, this rubber would not have taken seventh place, but would have entered the top 3, due to its high level of grip on wet surfaces, low fuel consumption, minimal braking distance and safe behavior. on dry roads. In addition, it is quiet on good asphalt, shockproof and not afraid of ruts. Drawbacks: on coarse and medium-grained pavement, these tires begin to vibrate, the price for size R17 and above is high.

6 Nokian Hakka Green 2

“Which summer tires are 15 better?” - you ask. The answer is Hakka Green 2. The test of summer tires conducted by the magazine "Za Rulem" put this Russian-made rubber in 1-2 places for the best braking properties on wet road surfaces, the best speed when making a "dry" shift, excellent directional stability and good handling during extreme driving. Small remarks were caused only by the comfort of the tires, but this will not particularly affect driving.

5. Bridgestone Turanza T001

These wear-resistant tires confidently hold both dry and wet roads after rain, even at high speeds. They have a strong sidewall, and the Turanza T001 enters the turns like a knife through butter. However, most reviews say that the rubber is quite noisy, and its hydroplaning resistance leaves much to be desired. And off-road tires are hardly suitable, if they stretch out on a dirt road in dry weather, then they can get stuck in wet weather.

4.MICHELIN Energy XM2

Next in the ranking of summer tires is a quiet, durable and soft rubber that performs well in heavy rain. It withstands a blow if the car gets into a hole at speed, where there is a high risk of breaking a wheel. The wear resistance of this model is at its best, it is quite possible to skate 3-4 seasons on it, while the wear will be less than 50%. Cons: On wet grass, dirt, and mud, the Energy XM2 tires don't ride well.

3. Yokohama BluEarth-A AE-50

What summer tires are better on the R16 if you need the optimal cost / reliability ratio? Our answer is the BluEarth-A AE-50. One tire size R16 will cost 3,725 rubles, size R15 is even cheaper. Advantages of rubber: fast start and braking, good grip on dry and wet roads, decent wear resistance, gently rides uneven surfaces. Disadvantages: it does not make noise only at temperatures above 20 degrees, on gravel at speeds above 80 km / h it can behave unpredictably.

2.Nokian Nordman SZ

Solid looking tires that will decorate any car. With external advantages, they also keep the track well (both wet and dry), do not tan at low temperatures, quickly accelerate and brake. Keep track even on a dirt road. The downside of Nordman SZ tires is noise, but you can get used to it. And their price is quite high, even for R15 size versions.

*Overview of the best in the opinion of the editors of the site. About selection criteria. This material is subjective, is not an advertisement and does not serve as a guide to the purchase. Before buying, you need to consult with a specialist.

One of the most common tire sizes for modern passenger cars is R16. A wide range of summer models from different manufacturers is presented on the domestic market. Rubber differs significantly in cost, so the motorist is faced with the acute question of finding the best combination of price and quality. Much depends on the preferences of the car owner, his driving style and geography of trips. With the help of our experts, we will try to determine the main criteria for selecting R16 summer tires.

Tread pattern. One of the most important parameters of tires for summer, which affects the efficiency of control and braking, is the tread pattern.

  1. The symmetrical tread is perfect for city driving and well-paved roads. But for cars with a large mass, this is not the most suitable option.
  2. The asymmetric pattern has pronounced three zones. Each of them has its own imprint. If the middle part is responsible for the rapid removal of water, then the outer and inner zones provide good stability when maneuvering. Such rubber is considered universal.
  3. The directional tread has the best grip on wet roads. The disadvantage of the V-shaped pattern is the long braking distance. Experts do not recommend putting such tires on cars without ABS.

rubber properties. Each manufacturer has its own rubber compound recipe. Such tire characteristics as shock-absorbing ability, lateral stability, wear resistance, resistance to cuts and hernias depend on its quality.

  1. Soft rubber has a low noise level, a comfortable ride over bumps. But with sharp maneuvers, accelerated tread wear occurs.
  2. Rigid models can serve the owner for a long time, forgiving starts with slippage or emergency braking. But driving on dirt roads will be uncomfortable.

Load index. When choosing tires, pay attention to the load index. This indicator indicates the maximum allowable weight per tire. It has a number. To determine the optimal value, the maximum gross vehicle weight should be taken as a basis. To take into account the additional load during acceleration or deceleration, a multiplying factor of 1.2 is applied.

Speed index. Depending on the driving style, the speed index is selected. It indicates the maximum allowed driving speed for a long time. Short-term exceeding of this threshold does not affect the integrity of the tires. On tires, the speed index is indicated in Latin letters, the further the letter is in alphabetical order, the higher the maximum speed.

Our review includes the top 10 R16 summer tires. All of them are widely represented in the Russian car market. When compiling the rating, the results of testing by independent experts and reviews of domestic motorists were taken into account.

Continental Conti Premium Contact 5 (R16)

All the best qualities of the previous Continental model range have been absorbed by the ContiPremiumContact 5 summer tires. It has passed a series of tests and tests, where it has demonstrated to the experts high handling performance on any road surface. The tires outperformed the competition in both traction and braking. The advantages of the model include excellent rolling resistance, minimal aquaplaning. In many ways, outstanding technical parameters are due to the innovative BlackChilli rubber compound. Dunlop SP Sport Maxx (R16)

Dunlop SP Sport Maxx tires are considered by some to be the tires of the future. It was born thanks to the close cooperation of engineers from Japan and Germany. The model has a multi-radius tread, double hydraulic grooves for effective water drainage. In the directional figure, you can see the central track, which is responsible for the handling of the car on dry pavement. For maximum tire adhesion to the road surface, the manufacturer used a flangeless hybrid carcass. For quietness and comfort while driving, the rubber receives the silver of our rating. The model is recommended for fans of aggressive driving.

Motorists of our country in the reviews speak flatteringly about the affordable price, good quality, and noiselessness. Of the minuses, increased tread wear is noted.

Advantages

  • acceptable price;
  • quiet work;
  • tenacity;
  • good quality.

French summer tires MICHELIN Primacy 3 belong to the premium class. At the same time, the money spent on it will more than pay off. In 2016, the Swedish edition of Vi Bilagare tested several tire models, where the Primacy 3 performed excellently in terms of noise and fuel efficiency. The experts also appreciated the resistance of the model to aquaplaning. For high quality, reliability and durability, the model takes an honorable third place in our rating. Brand tires provide a high level of safety.

Rubber also has weaknesses. Users have noticed a pronounced dependence of performance on temperature. In addition, domestic motorists consider the price too high. But the comfort and noiselessness of R16 tires are on top.

Advantages

  • hydroplaning resistance;
  • strength and reliability;
  • noiselessness;
  • high quality.

Flaws

  • soft sides;
  • high price.

Pirelli Cinturato P7 (R16)

The strengths of tires experts include high resistance to aquaplaning, braking performance, good grip on the roadway. Tires run quietly, providing a comfortable ride on any road. Italian rubber stopped a step away from the podium for several reasons. By the way, the fourth place was given to the model according to the results of testing by the Swedish edition Vi Bilagare.

Of the minuses, motorists note the tendency of tires to form hernias. The next deterrent when buying is the high price. Some users report increased fuel consumption.

Advantages

  • good handling;
  • wear resistance;
  • noiselessness;
  • hydroplaning resistance.

Flaws

  • hernias are formed;
  • high price.

Bridgestone Turanza T001 (R16)

Japanese summer tires Bridgestone Turanza T001 was created as a replacement for the popular Turanza ER300 tires. Experts agreed that the novelty surpassed its predecessor in all respects. First of all, the stable behavior of the car on a wet road is noted. This is an effective removal of water from the contact patch, and excellent grip on wet surfaces. The main reason for the high technical parameters is the unique Nano Pro-Tech technology, which has been introduced at the factories of the Japanese brand. Thanks to it, carbon molecules can be evenly distributed in the rubber compound. What prevented rubber from climbing higher in our ranking?

Users complain about noise while driving. This is a consequence of the rigidity of the tires, so rubber will not make friends with every suspension.

Advantages

  • innovative manufacturing technology;
  • stable behavior on wet roads;
  • wear resistance;
  • strong sidewall.

Flaws

  • noise;
  • rigidity.

Toyo Proxes CF2 (R16)

The Japanese company has introduced European-style summer tires Toyo Proxes CF2. It is recommended for lovers of high-speed driving. Tires have a number of positive characteristics, which were confirmed during testing by experts from the Polish edition of Motor. In 2017, tires took high positions in the noisiness and efficiency categories. But the tires performed worst of all during emergency braking on a dry road. Not the strongest side of the model is the resistance to aquaplaning. Rubber closes the TOP-6 of our rating.

Domestic car owners are satisfied with the combination of price and comfort. The tires do not make noise while driving, they hold the car well on the road. But off-road and during extreme driving, tires make the car uncontrollable.

GOODYEAR Efficient Grip Performance (R16)

Summer tires GOODYEAR EfficientGrip Performance appeared in 2013, replacing tires EfficientGrip. They were designed for high performance passenger cars. Experts consider braking performance on wet roads and excellent grip qualities to be the key parameters of rubber. GOODYEAR engineers have developed a unique ActiveBraking technology. The use of a three-dimensional block design made it possible to increase the contact area when the brake pedal is pressed sharply. Another advanced WearControl technology is responsible for controlling tire wear.

Advantages

  • softness and elasticity;
  • noiselessness;
  • excellent handling;
  • good adhesion to the coating.

Flaws

  • rapid tread wear;
  • weak sides.

Hankook Tire Ventus Prime2 (R16)

The Korean summer tire Hankook Tire Ventus Prime2 has the lowest noise level. This statement came after tests conducted by the experts of the Polish magazine Motor in 2015. Praise from the tire experts also deserved for the economy, braking performance, both on dry and wet roads. Russian motorists have a somewhat different position. They consider the rubber noisy, while praising it for handling and durability. Different estimates of the same tires can be explained by the place of manufacture (Korea or Hungary).

The experts noted the asymmetric tread pattern, which has sufficiently deep drainage grooves. Therefore, the tires hold the road well even in the rain. The advantages of the model include resistance to wear.

Russian motorists liked the rubber for an affordable price, ease of balancing, noiselessness. But to solve the problem of rigidity, it seems, the manufacturer failed. Users are also unhappy with the lack of side protection.

Advantages

  • affordable price;
  • good quality;
  • elasticity;
  • wear resistance.

Flaws

  • rigidity;
  • lack of side protection.

Kumho Ecsta HS51 (R16)

A great option for fans of a quiet ride would be to buy Kumho Ecsta HS51 tires. The manufacturer managed to create comfortable summer tires. They have a minimum level of noise, well "swallow" the bumps in the roadway. Experts note an unusual tread pattern, the asymmetry of the pattern is very weakly expressed. As for behavior on wet roads, there are certain disadvantages. If the wide grooves contribute to the effective drainage of water, then the shoulder zones cannot cope with a large flow. As a result, grip on wet pavement leaves much to be desired. The model closes the top ten best summer tires R16 in our rating.

Users are satisfied with the low noise level, good shock absorption. Of the minuses, an average resource and a long braking distance are noted.

Advantages

  • ease;
  • noiselessness;
  • democratic price;
  • good quality.
