When the last C4 debuted, I was almost certain that Citroen had stopped producing extraordinary cars that made you wonder and point the finger at them. But the craving for non-conformism cannot be eradicated from the “two chevrons”! Take a look at the new "Grand C4 Picasso": you will definitely not find such a bold design in other minivans. Headlights amazing in their shapes, huge triangular side windows, intricate lights in the form of the letter P laid on its side - a ready-made exhibit for the Museum of Modern Art! By the way, the standard "C4 Picasso" rear lighting is not so pretentious. The Grand version differs not only in this. She has a wheelbase stretched by 112 mm, the body is 169 mm longer (weight increased by 35 kg). The silhouette has noticeably changed: the roof here is not so sloping, and the tailgate is almost vertical.
Reshaping the body made it possible to introduce an additional row of seats. But don't be fooled by the word "Grand" in the name of the car - in Kamchatka, even first-graders are cramped. And if all the seats are in the ranks, then consider that there is no trunk - its volume is only 170 liters.
I immediately folded the third row under the floor and got the necessary space. A couple of suitcases, a backpack, a sports bag, a camera tripod and a foldable stroller are not without difficulty, but they fit.
The trunk is functional: a flat floor, straight walls with comfortable spring-loaded hinges. The backlight is a removable flashlight that can come in handy on the road. In the top configuration, and I had just such a car at my disposal, the fifth door is equipped with an electric drive. Not every competitor has this option.
Having finished with the loading of luggage, I installed a child seat: ten seconds - the locks on the Isofix mounts snapped into place. And the two-year-old daughter enthusiastically began to explore a new world for her: she immediately threw back the table built into the back of the front seat, turned on its backlight and secured the box with pencils with an elastic belt. Settled in instantly!
The second row is three separate seats, each of which can be moved in the longitudinal direction. The backrests are angle adjustable. The floor is flat, and under it are a couple of hidden drawers. And there is enough space in all directions - two adults and a child in a child seat do not interfere with each other. But sitting is not particularly comfortable: the pillows are a little short, and the lateral support at the backs is purely symbolic.
I jump behind the wheel and ... From the abundance of light it seems as if I found myself inside a soap bubble! It's not just the panoramic roof, but also the giant windshield. It is so large that the interior mirror was hung on a long bracket, and the sun visors were equipped with additional sliding blinds. The predecessor had similar solutions.
Instruments are still located in the middle of the front panel, but now they are not three different screens, but a single 12-inch display. The scales on it are drawn, like those of the Range Rover and Mercedes-Benz S-Class. Good company, right?
The steering wheel has finally got rid of the fixed hub and is smartly trimmed along the lower chord. There are a minimum of buttons on the console, all settings are through the touch screen of the center console. Call me a retrograde, but it’s more convenient to control the climate with ordinary knobs. Yes, and slows down the screen, responding to touch with a second delay.
The front seats are tailored for me! Particularly pleased with the cozy headrest with two-dimensional adjustment. I'm not talking about the built-in massager - another little thing from the arsenal of executive cars. Not only that, the front passenger seat has a retractable ottoman with an electric drive!
Between the front seats there is a removable box with two cup holders and a spacious drawer. I also liked the handling. In the new generation, the Grand C4 Picasso threw off almost one and a half centners. The former imposing, sweeping gait was replaced by a mischievous and incendiary drive - well, by Van standards, of course. The car willingly flashes bundles of S-shaped turns and practically does not annoy with rolls, and the steering wheel pleases with clear feedback. And only the brakes remained typically French: the slightest touch of the pedal - and the crew hangs on the seat belts. This made my daughter laugh, but my wife made a couple of caustic comments about the skill of the driver.
Bringing the new "Picasso" to the Russian market, the French did not make changes to the suspension (too much work for a small, in fact, market). And this, alas, is felt. The car shudders even on minor bumps. The suspension suddenly rattles loudly on potholes, you have to talk to passengers in raised tones. "Bumps" you move in a whisper. Trams too. In the Tver region, on a site with a removed layer of asphalt, it was necessary to crawl at a walking pace. Oh, what a pity that the famous "Hydractive" suspension is not installed on the "C4 Picasso" and the long-wheelbase version of the "Grand"! Another jerk - and we are at the hotel.
